Pretty decent pizza. This is a local chain with 6 locations. This location is buried on the side of a strip mall that's not facing the main road. They seem to have a faithful following. 7:30 on a Saturday night they were cranking out pizzas and subs as fast as they can. Their indoor dining is closed so that has to hurt. I saw a steady stream of to go orders coming out. I had an 8" pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pie. The crust is on the thinner side and the sauce is robust. The sausage was very bold and tasty. The pepperoni was almost the curly grease cup kind but not quite. The mushrooms were canned. Not a knock. They weren't bad. It is with great regret that I now share with you that the Karl Rd. Ange's has hit rock bottom. I try to support local businesses rather than the national chains, and I typically order from this shop 5-6 times a month. A week or so ago I had to change my order because they were out of ingredients (anchovies). Today, I patiently waited for my delivery for well over an hour. Mind you- I live around the corner from this shop- you don't even have to hit a traffic light! When I called to ask why I hadn't gotten my order, the manager apologized and said that she mistakenly wrote it down as a pick-up order. I reminded her that, when I said "delivery", she asked for my address! I then called back out of curiosity to ask how this mistake occurred when they didn't even ask for a name for the pick-up. they told me they probably got off of the called ID. I used to be a big fan of this location- no more. I've managed businesses for nearly 30 years and, when you start noticing a disregard for loyalty along with a marked decline in details, it's usually a good indication that the restaurant is on a downward spiral. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. Worst Customer Service Ever. The person who took our order might have have been the rudest person I have ever dealt with. I worked in the restaurant business for about a decade mind you, and I have seen some doozies when it comes to dealing with a customer, but this guy took the cake. Either he paid zero attention to our conversation or there is heavy machinery where they work and he couldn't hear jack. My wife had to repeat herself SEVERAL times and when she hung up the phone wasn't even convinced he still knew what we ordered. Lo and behold an hour and a half later they show up and the entire order was wrong. My order consisted of 1 pizza and a Stromboli. I got 2 pizzas, neither of which were correct. We called to get a refund as we were already annoyed with their customer service from the ordering. The same guy picks up the phone and tells us that wasn't what we ordered, he remembered! We definitely ordered what they delivered! according to him! It wasn't, so we just ask for the refund again and he said he couldn't since the manager wasn't in. We asked when the manager was in next and he started arguing with us and wouldn't tell us when the manager would be in then straight up hung the phone. Edit: the next day I called and dealt with two different gentlemen, a manager and then later the GM. Both were apologetic and sympathetic. We ended up getting a refund. I was craving pizza but haven't found a place near my home yet. Well I think I found that place. I called and placed a pick up order. I haven't seen the menu, just read a few reviews. There are no automated prompts when you call. Just a friendly voice on the other end ready to take your order. I got a small Ange's special. He told me it would be 20 minutes but I got there a little early and it was ready. They are located in a small strip of stores. I tried paying with my phone but the guy at the counter said they weren't that cool yet. I thought that was funny. The pizza stayed hot for quite awhile as I had to make a couple stops before getting home. The sauce tastes homemade and fresh. You can taste all the flavors in it. I didn't care for the thick mushrooms, but I'll just get it without next time. I can't wait to try them again. read more

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: I've had more than 100 pizzas from here. Best tasting pizza I can remember having- EVER. There seems to be a pizza place on every other block in a decent sized city, but most of the one's I've tried could learn a TON from the folks at Anges on Karl Rd. I have not been to any of the other Anges locations- so this would only apply to the Karl Road location. There are two things that my family and I (6 of us) believe make Anges stand out from the others: The pepperoni's and the sauce. - Pepperoni's like these are hard to find these days- the little ones what curl up on the ends, holding the flavorful oils and jubilation emulsions within them without being overly greasy. Sure there are many places around that have "flavor", but they are a dime a dozen and there is no noticeable difference between the crust and the pep. Not Anges. The flavor is one of a kind, and I guess that's why we haven't been able to find another pizza place as good here in northern Virginia. Everyone around here uses the same flat, flavorless pepperonis that go on the sauce and are covered with toppings of all kinds, leaving us with a corporately memorable flavor- not a pizza experience you remember. We fight over the Anges pepperoni's in our family, the therapy sessions helped a great deal. - Sauces can be tricky. Too much spice and you loose the tomato flavor, too little and all you have is tomato sauce on bread. Anges sauce has just the right amount of both to make you want another bite- even before you've finished the one you have. Case and point: One of my sons doesn't like cheese- not at all. BUT- He loves Anges pizza because the crust and sauce is so good...he loves it even after he takes the cheese and pepperonis off (and gives them to me of course.) Some places he won't eat the pizza because it just has no taste and he's rather make a sandwich or have a bowl of cereal, but when it's Anges he'll ask if we got enough pizza for us to take back to Virginia. This is how sauce is supposed to taste. For 15 years my parents have gotten 3 or 4 large pizzas from Anges on Karl Road every Friday night for their small group. I wish they had a franchise here in Northern Virginia because I would be doing the same thing. For now- I'll settle for driving 8-9 hours to visit my family, with a rock solid, immovable entry on our calendar for Anges Pizza. NOTES: Coupons: Anges has coupons all over the place. Check the paper, online, on an old pizza box and in those door to door bags of junk mail you get on your doorstep each week. It's worth the effort to look them when you find them. You can also call and ask what the special is they are running that week. Delivery: I have always called in and done pick-up, we have never had them delivered so I can't comment delivery service. Restaurant Experience/Wait staff: Same as above. I've never eaten inside so I can't comment on what that would be. But you do see that there is a dining room available with what looked to be plenty of seating. Honestly, decor wise it looked a bit dated, but when I asked my kids if that mattered to them they said it wouldn't matter because the pizza was so good. Menu: I've never had anything other than the pizza. I've had the pep & cheese, supreme and a Hawaiian (many of each...OK- maybe too many) and each were fantastic. PLUSES: + Best pepperoni there is + Great tasting sauce + Moderately priced for the sizes they offer + Lots of coupons available + Big menu + Fast service MINUSES: - Decor is a bit dated - From the street it looks like a hole in the wall pizza shop and that might deter people from giving them a try Trust me- You'll be glad you gave Anges a try. There may be a few other Yelp reviews where someone's experience wasn't as good or positive as mine, but this is a review with more than 100 different opportunities to get it wrong, and they haven't failed me or my family yet. read more

With so many pizza shops available where you can be satisfied and fill your hunger with a pizza that tastes fair to good, I nearly passed up a rather nondescript out-of-the-way pizza house in the Northland area, off of Karl Rd. I noticed the frequency that fellow Yelper, Suzanne had made in getting pizza from a shop near to me, Ange's. After reading her glowing reviews of This pizzeria, I was surprised not to find an Internet presence for the shop or eve menus to be seen. So, I decided to send a couple of messages to her the questions that I had about the menu, etc. As I consider myself a true lover of this tasty, crispy, sometimes, spicy, but always different, backbone of what American's often seem to refer to as Italian fast food, I wanted to know more information; sauce, delivery area and toppings, and so on. It didn't help that there was no online menu or presence, but since they were in my area and I was tired from helping to unload furniture into our storage unit for the day and I just wanted something quick, easy, and maybe even different. A friendly voice answered my call to Ange's where I ordered a lg pep and cheese pizza for carry out. After the suggested 15 mins. (Superman) I picked up a fresh-from-the-oven pizza. Taking a brief look at the cleanliness of the shop and noting the cheerfulness and friendliness of drivers, and cook staff, I talked to John Porter, the counter manager of the store, and the man in charge of managing the huge workload in producing the large amount of pizzas purchased from this small strip mall shop on Karl Rd. We discussed their delivery area and I learned that I could be included in that coverage, if I so wanted. But, first, let's visit the old adage that "The proof is in the pudding" or in this case, the "pie." It was still hot when I got it home and removed it from the box. (Good sign!) Enough grease to add delicious flavor, without all the toppings sliding off into your lap, the crunch was perfect; evenly browned on the bottom with care, professionalism and experience. The tomato sauce was deliciously slightly sweet with the aromatic herbs and Italian spices. Then, the biggest surprise was the discovery of those tiny, Old World pepperoni that I love so much, evenly spread throughout the pie so that my teeth were able to crunch on these wonderful, flavorful, mildly spicy, Italian rounds of meat and my mouth could experience the tasty goodness of all these combined ingredients. Oh! So good! Will we go back? Well, before we even finished the meal, I picked up the phone and called Ange's and asked to speak to John Porter, if I could. They obviously have several phones that pick up on that same rotation of calls dialed for orders. I was asked to wait for a second and he would be right with me. Concerned that when I called he may have been led to believe that a "complaint" or "problem" call might have been waiting for him, John took my call pretty quickly. I told him who I was; (The other John - as we'd discussed in the store, and the one with the super hero shirt who had just been in to buy a Pep and Cheese pizza.) He remembered me and I quickly told him that nothing was wrong. I was calling to tell him how wonderful and delicious his pizza is. I thanked him and told him he could now expect me as a "regular" in the north end. It's hard to find good restaurants, pizza shops, businesses etc., and Yelp community really helps ease that burden with their willingness and eagerness to share their discoveries. read more

I saw that this place was so close to me that I wanted to try it. I decided that the best way for a pizza shop to give me a true position on where they stand in the balance is by trying out the pepperoni pizza. The pizza was instantly a classic! This is a pizza that one cannot be disappointed with, I would even say that if you live 20 mins away, this pizza would be worth your drive. Why? For people who are looking for a thin crust pizza this is a great place to be. Their crust is thin, but not paper thin. It's got a crunch, but not from being burnt. The amount of pepperoni they apply to the pizza is generous, they want to make sure that they give you what you pay. Still my favorite pizza! Was passing through town 2/28/15 and my grandparents and I got our favorite, to go, from the Karl Road location: extra-large, thin crust, pepperoni. There is something about their little pepperoni's that are just fantastic--right amount of spicy, cooked perfectly so they roll up just slightly like little bowls of meaty goodness. I believe these pizzas are made with quality ingredients, which could accounts for the grease, but man, it's worth it! Remember how I said we got an extra-large? Had their pie for the first time tonight. My wife told me it was good, she's Sicilian, so I thought it would be better than average. Holy cow! If you love good pizza, you MUST try Ange's. It is literally the best pizza I have had in a very long time! No gimmicks needed. No need to stuff the crust with cheese, etc. Ours was simply pep with green peppers and it was amazing, with the taste of high quality ingredients. I could taste the goodness, the richness of the cheese, and the pep was also high quality and cooked perfectly! I typically wouldn't write a review at 12:30 a.m. with the alarm set for a handful of hours away, but I felt the need to recognize an amazing product. Today, I was very disappointed. I ordered a pizza at 2:30PM, realizing it would probably be 45 minutes fo rdelivery. I got the pizza at 4:00PM. It was cold. I felt bad for the delivery because he apologized and said he asked them to hold back a bit on the deliveries because he couldn't keep up. But who I blame is this woman there. I had heard about this place previously and I decided that I would give it a shot. I went to the location that's right off of Cleveland Avenue and needless to say it wasn't that bad. It's a very small space and looks like it's really a takeout place but if push comes to shove, there our seats to sit in. I ordered a super Italian sub and it was amazing. Lots of meat, lots of cheese and most importantly, lots of flavor. I went with a friend of mine and she ordered the pizza so I had a chance to taste that as well.
