I was told by the Fire Department that it is a legal requirement to have a contractors license for replacement or repairs of the backflow or to work on the system. This company is tampering with fire lines and domestic water lines without the proper licensing, training , and testing . I will be reporting this company to the contractors state license board to protect other consumers. I have reported them to the Fire Department also. The first company that came out charged me $99 for an inspection and estimate and claimed that I needed to replace all my vents (switching from single-wall to double-wall). Pablo, however, explained that this was unnecessary -- he could redo sections and install a new cap on the roof for about a quarter of the other company's estimate. During my research, I also considered installing a tankless water heater to avoid dealing with vents altogether and obtained estimates for that option.
