This is one of the restaurants in the dairy market and I absolutely love the soul food served here. During this time when we all need to be safe and yet support our restaurant owners... I'm glad I got out to try out their brick and mortar... The fried chicken is so crisp and well seasoned! I can eat it weekly and never get sick of it! The fried fish is breaded in her special breading that is amazing! Eating it alongside her jumbo shrimp that is fried and battered to perfection will make you glad that you made your way out to eat here! This is a great place! I love the food here. With so many options in the Dairy Market it can be hard to choose, but this soul food spot is a sure bet. The staff are always kind and attentive and it is just fun to come here. For lunch there are plenty of options that can feed a whole crowd. The sampler is a fun way to see everything, but I'm partial to the hush puppies. The fried chicken is a family favorite, my family will even get extra to take home for tomorrow! These foods are always great and a crowd pleaser, but its the breakfast that I really love. It is so cheap to grab just a couple of fried eggs and biscuits, a great classic breakfast that comes hot and delicious! What did we order: 5 piece chicken and fried fish. Smells: oily. Visual appeal: appetizing. Food quality: decent southern fried chicken with a light coating of batter and a killer crunch. This meal was a bit of a miss for me. I tried the sampler platter because I wanted some variety, and felt like the food lacked freshness. While everything was edible, it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The chicken was underseasoned and didn't have that crispy outside bite when you ate it. It seems like this place is decent when it's fresh but a total miss when it's not. unfortunately I think I had it when it was not fresh. The cole slaw was the only thing that I could eat, but the hush puppies were so greasy and old they weren't edible. The fries were stale tasting and the fried fish was so bad I took 2 bites of it and tossed the whole meal save the cole slaw. I have heard so much about Angelic's Kitchen, and I was so excited to finally try it at the Dairy Market. I got the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. The chicken was perfect, and those were about the best collard greens I've had. I was excited to try Angelic's kitchen, but unfortunately it wasn't what I was hoping for. The ribs I ordered had no discernible smoke flavor, were tough, and seemed to have been cooked looooong before being served. I'm fairly certain they were never in a smoker, and they were topped with cheap grocery store bbq sauce. The fried fish had good breading, but the fish itself was riddled with bones and was extremely "fishy" in flavor. Angelic's is the worst place I've ever had as far as I'm concerned all their food sucks. You can get better chicken from Kentucky fried chicken or Popeyes. Nothing is seasoned in any way shape or form. All of their condiments come out of a can or a tub which are tasteless. They are so Wayover priced . Went to the Dairy Market for the first time with some friends from out of town. Like the experience of different restaurants to chose from. Most if not all are local. I tried Angelic's. The fried fish was good and I would go back for it. It was made to order. I believe that it was bake but probably fried in the Southern tradition. It tasted like it was baked. No oily taste. I orded 1 chicken leg to see what the fried chicken tasted like. It was precook and a bit dried. The buttermilk batter was good. Wish it was fresher. The sides were a disappointment, did not have that Southern seasoning taste. Had the collar greens, yams and corn pudding. All tasted like they were out of a can. Corn pudding was dry. We ate there this weekend. I got some hard dry but somehow greasy chicken. I think she gets them biscuits and corn bread from KFC or Popeyes. Its not the special. Angelic's is excellent. My friend and I shared the pulled pork sandwich, the hushpuppies, and corn pudding as a late lunch. The food came fast, and it was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've had. Moist, delicious smoky flavor, light fluffy texture. No need for a lot of BBQ sauce, if any at all. The hushpuppies also had a perfect texture - crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, but not too thick of a crust. As a corn lover, the corn pudding with corn like 5 ways really hit the spot. Finally, a place that serves fried fish the real Caribbean way, with the bones still in it. That's how you know it's good. Where I'm from in New Jersey there are lots of Haitian and other Caribbean restaurants and this is the closest thing to that in Charlottesville. All the sides were good. I had high hopes ordering from this restaurant. A good chicken place at the dairy market was definitely needed. But I was very disappointed with Angelic's kitchen. The staff were nice, but the food is a very different story. It cost 28 dollars for two regular orders of chicken with a side of mac n cheese. The food was not bad by any means, but for that price, I was expecting some bobbie flay homemade buttermilk battered chicken. These were sub par strips, very small, and obviously had been sitting in a heater the entire day. The mac and cheese was watery and did not taste homemade whatsoever. Out of a southern restaurant you would at least expect good mac and cheese- that should be a constant, so I ordered simple items, no abstract fish or anything from the menu. The quality was just not there. This meal was something i would expect out of KFC, not a homemade meal by a small buisiness. On top of the food being mediocre, the main issue was how overpriced it was.
