I cannot believe I've never reviewed Tacos Gomez. I have eaten there at least 50 times in the past few years. No joke. I have had Carnitas tacos.... i have had the Al pastor tacos...I have had tortas... I have had alambre...I have had quesadillas.... I have used both the red and the green sauce. Let me say this...it is authentic...it is real...I have never had a bad meal. If I am hungry and want Mexican, I can't drive past this place. They have seating, so one can sit outside when it's warm. They take orders over the phone for pickup. They have beverages and they even sell fries. The tacos are simple...no cheese. No sour cream. Just onions and cilantro. The way they are meant to be. The tortillas are homemade. The quesadillas are like mini tacos, stuffed with your choice of proteins (or all veggies) plus cheese--grilled on the griddle. The torta is traditional and authentic. Tacos Gomez is an adorable spot in Cville all should make the trek to try! I came here on a Friday night with a friend and appreciated the speedy service. We split the Carne Asada tacos - so tender and full of flavor. I was especially happy they garnished each taco with plenty of onions and cilantro. The spicy green salsa was the cherry on top! It is amazing. Like some of the best tacos possible. I go every other Saturday and have probably gone 25+ times and have never been even mildly dissatisfied with any food. The sauce is very spicy but don't be afraid because it comes on the side. The food truck is in a good location so you can easily access it. Food comes quick and the staff is always friendly and helpful. There is an area to sit as well if you want a sit down type of thing. This food truck has the best street tacos I've had in the US by far. The asada and the al pastor are *chef's kiss*: incredibly flavorful and tender. The quesadillas are a great option too, and I'm looking forward to trying the tortas on a future visit. Note that there are vegetarian options (basically vegetable fillings for tacos or quesadillas). Out of all of the food trucks on the lot Tacos Gomez is always poppin' so I finally decided to stop by after work. Service was great and the menu has a lot of options. The green sauce and the quesadilla were my favorites but the al pastor taco was a prettier solid taco. Ingredients were very fresh. Pros: - Prices weren't cheap but they weren't over priced (when considering you're in C'ville) - 4 tacos for $13.....sure why not - tacos had lots of meat in them - good flavor - spicy sauce was pretty damn spicy. It's hard to find tortas around these parts, but if you're in need, Tacos Gomez has your back. I had the Torta al pastor and it was banging. Honestly too big to eat in one sitting, but I did it anyways. Too good to say no, plus you only live once, right?? My husband got four tacos, and I tried one of his pork tacos and it was delicious. They weren't greasy at all but had all the flavor. They are also loaded with meat, no skimping there. Classic style served with onions and cilantro on top plus a lime and salsa. Perfection. A surprising amount of tacos trucks exist in Charlottesville, and most folks cite Tacos Gomez at the foot of Pantops as the best in town. Given that praise, my wife and I checked out this place rather than our go-to Tako Nako for a recent lunch. Tacos Gomez resides next to a few other food trucks in a parking lot off of High Street. A few tables and chairs are available for patrons who want to eat outdoors, however we took our order to go. Despite the truck being fairly busy, we got our food within five minutes of ordering. We sampled four varieties of taco (chorizo, pastor, lengua, and birria). The highlight of the tacos actually ended up being the handmade tortillas. These had a soft texture with a light corn flavor and enough heft to support the generously filled tacos. The meats themselves, while solid, didn't wow us. We couldn't tell the difference between the pastor and chorizo, as both had pleasant but very similar flavor profiles. Additionally, the birria was a little dry, though I had no complaints about the tender lengua. Both red and green salsas tasted fresh and spicy, but we wish the truck didn't charge for extra cups of condiment. Tacos Gomez also offers other enticing options like stuffed tortas and chicken flautas, and these honestly looked super delicious relative to our tacos. Prices are on par with other tacos and thus overall a very good value. While we will likely stick to our usual favorite taco truck in town for tacos themselves, we will definitely check out Gomez for their more unique offerings or whenever we want a change of pace. These tacos definitely hit the spot, and are a worthy option to get your authentic fix. read more

Holy Torta! Needing some lunch we swung by the food truck on the corner of High and 250. It was plenty crowded but got our food quickly. It seems that a lot of people call in their order. They only have a couple of tables so we took ours to Meade Park. The park was empty due to water park not having lifeguards. Back to the torta, I got the asada torta. Steak with tomatoes, onion, avocado, jalapeno, and cheese. The bread is the star of the show. Perfectly toasted to hold all of the ingredients. I love small businesses and I try to eat at most small businesses every time I travel anywhere. BUT THIS WAS A ABSOLUTE WASTE . yes customer service was great , the food just had no flavor , birria tacos were not cooked in consomme and I actually had to go back and get consomme . also order flautas , they were just ground boiled chicken wrapped and fried with a salad thrown on top . wish I had a better experience bc I was really excited for this one read more

I had been looking forward to trying this place for a while. If there's something Charlottesville needed, it's a great taco spot. I'd been underwhelmed with Brazos so was looking for something to satisfy my taco cravings. Between my friend and I, we got 6 tacos. I wasn't impressed by the flavors of any of them. They were all bland, especially the asada. The chorizo had a bit more flavor just given the nature of it. The chicken fajita was dry, but the bell peppers and onions were cooked perfectly.
