My go to Thai spot in Riverside. So tasty! And less salty which is a big plus to me. Quick and friendly service. Good amount of seats indoor. Plenty of parking spaces in the back of the plaza. Closed between 3pm and 4pm for their lunch so be sure to avoid those times. My fav dishes are their spring rolls with shrimp, Angel Thai wings, spicy eggplant with fried tofu, and crab fried rice. I've been coming here for years. YEARS! I'm not sure if they changed management or owners but The service is terrible now! I'm warning you DO NOT come here! I've been so understanding even when they weren't passing their health inspections. Today I called to order, they close at 9. They weren't answering the phone but when they finally did GINA said they weren't taking orders I asked her what time they closed and she said 9 so I said that's ok I'll head there. I drove there from tibbets (2min) and the door is locked. Gina is yelling at me from across the store telling me they're closed. I reminded me I just spoke to her on the phone. And she said "that's why I said we weren't taking orders" Well GINA why when I said I'll head there didn't you say you were closed? And then her yelling at me thru the door was the cherry on top! Also I'm watching her open the back door currently and service ppl. Not sure the reasoning. Customer service/food service isn't hard nor complicated. Gina needs better training or maybe a kitchen position where she isn't directly dealing with customers. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable about what was gluten free so that was super helpful (for all those with Celiac, he said almost all their soy sauces are gluten free). The service was horrible, my family and were just simply ignored. We showed and asked for a booth, the manager told us he will wipe the table before sitting us and he did. With that being said he knew we were waiting on menus. The place was not busy but every table had their food. He just flat out ignored us and never brought the menus. We waiting for more than 30 minutes! Not exaggerating. I had to take a call for work as soon as we sat down so I looked at my latest incoming call indicating it was more then 30 minutes since taking the call.We still never got our menus. My wife walked up to the front and asked for menus and the bald dude said " will you be ordering to go??" That means HE TOTALLY FORGOT WE WERE THERE! Even though he sat us down! The soy sauce is a great mix of sweet and savory. I also ordered chicken pad se ew at medium spice. The broccoli was super tender and the flavor was great. Medium is perfect spice because it was spicy but not overwhelming to where I couldn't finish it (i am not usually a spicy food eater hot sauce only). When a favorite Thai restaurant closed recently we lamented the limited choices that remain in our immediate area. Sometimes the restaurants cater too much to non-Asian tastes (sweeter, saltier, milder) and not enough umph or delightful mix of spicy and savory. Even though they've been around for years I always seem to forget about Angel Thai because of the slightly off the main drag location. We thought the pictures on Yelp looked decent so we headed out, easily found parking across the street, and were seated almost immediately. There's a parking lot In back too so that explains all the people that popped up suddenly after we arrived. The menu is pretty straightforward, nothing I haven't seen anywhere else but like many families, the resemblance is often on the surface and each establishment has different ways to make the familiar seem novel. That was my impression. Normally I'd go for a curry of some kind but I stayed close to the ground picking Pad Thai, the ubiquitous noodles. With chicken. We split a large hotpot of Wonton Soup, and also the Prik Khing with medium level spices. The soup came out first, very hot, and we appreciated its "just right" broth and lack of center cone that obstructs the ability to retrieve the contents easily. Pretty solid, the wontons were delicious and the cabbage nicely wilted. Yum! Next came the Prik Khing with nice crispy green beans and pork. The sauce was similar in color to past experiences elsewhere but that's where similarities ended. There's a wonderful floral essence and spicy tang of lemongrass in addition to curry seasonings. Highly recommended! Finally, my Pad Thai turned out to be a huge portion, so much so that I had two light meals from the leftovers. Milder than curries it still had all the prerequisite flavors and colorful presentation one would expect. While this is probably the last time I order this dish here it's not because I didn't like it. Rather, it's because I can't wait to fan out and explore the menu. Lest I forget, I Highly, HIGHLY recommend trying the delicious Mango-Sticky Rice for dessert. This is one ethnic restaurant dessert that won't be disappointing. The ROMEOs left it to spontaneity today and I'm glad that we did. Six of us for our 1:30 lunch and were immediately seated. Menus were available on the table and it was extensive. Today I was looking for egg rolls, spring rolls and fried dumplings so I had the #7 Angel Basket. It says for 2 or for 4. I said for 2 for me. The egg rolls were crispy and stuffed with steaming hot veggies. The wonton wrappers were fried crispy but not oily. The shrimp in the basket was a true treat the dumplings were fine. With some ice cold beer (Singha $6) I was set. Everyone else had water. Others at the table ordered #28 Sweet and Sour. Mix of fresh and stir fried veggies with your choice of protein. Although I didn't find out what mock chicken was. The #35 salmon salad, was perfectly grilled and laid on a bed of apples, onions and greens. It smelled great. My peanut sauce for my spring rolls had a much stronger coconut flavor than I'm used to but it was good. I used the item numbers to point out how many options you have. I think it goes to fifty. The service was better than adequate and ended in a flair when Oh tied our 'to go' bags in style. Very simple but classy interior design.
