On November 7 2023, Travis with Andy's Lock and Key showed up at our house, on time, to repair and re-key the lock and make us 8 new keys. I asked the locksmith that showed up 15 minutes late to wash his hands because I just had everything cleaned and painted for the new tenants. He called his boss to complain about me asking him to wash his hands. He decided not to change my locks and told me to find another locksmith. He said that "this was a dirty job and he goes from job to job and of course his hands will be dirty". I told him that "I was a dentist and I went from patient to patient but I washed my hands in between and my hands were always clean". As soon as I open the door I have three jerks looking at me like I walked into the bathroom while they were on the toilette. One of them starts hollering that I can't be inside if I'm at the drive-through window. I point out that my daughter is in the car, which means she can move it if need be. The guy goes, " it doesn't matter, you can't be in here while you're in the drive through. So I shrug, say "alright", and go to move the car. Andy's (ALK) has been my go to spot for years, they done everything from making a simple key copy including pad locks (which they recommend testing to make sure they work) to losing my my keys in the past and having them come out mobile to make from scratch (don't do this)! They are a small family run shop, it's tight quarters, but I always feel comfortable and get professional service. When I bought a new car year ago, the key wouldn't stay locked into the casing (folding key - not my 1st choice). The 1st thing I did was take to them to get me a one, that wouldn't open up in my pocket. That worked for a couple of years, then the actual metal key brought off while I was leaving work (according to them they get multiple calls a week about this issue with my car brand - it's a luxury tier too)! I was freaking out, as I had just ordered lunch and need to drive to pick it up, luckily a cowoker helped. I call ALK afterwards to get home, they had a hack, where you put the key in (weird feeling) keep the remote by (awkward feeling) and based on the type of vehicle I have, it only needs the chip close by to start, but not keep close to drive (Thank Source)! These are the kinds of things that are nice to have, and I was so glad I bought the key from them, because, I felt like I had someone to go to for help when it arose, vs. the dreaded dealership, who would love to charge you HUNDREDS of Dollars to replace! To summarize this recent experienc, we had to end getting that unit replaced as it wouldn't stay locked into the case after swapping out (defective case locking mechanism), I almost let it go, but brought it too their attention in a timely manner, and they took care of everything start to finish with no hassle, and I'm back in business! Always been happy with this business. We need keys made often and this last time it was a spare set for our car. It was an odd key but they had one for us. We also used them to change locks on a new home we bought and they came out promptly and took care of each and every door lock. We like their drive-thru and usually go that route for keys. It is easy and we can stay in the car while being served. We never have to wait long and they are friendly too. The kiosk is easy to get to and in a good location right off Virginia. I just a home in Reno and I needed to rekey my whole house, that would be seven locks in all. Nate was the guy that showed up (on time) to do the work for me. I found him very professional and sweet. We had fun conversation and he gave me some tips and advice about the whole Reno scene; that's invaluable to someone like me who is not familiar with the area very well... He did a stellar job; I was anxious to have the locks changed fast because I had a fear that the seller might be coming into the house...We closed escrow two weeks ago. Things didn't go well in the end with our seller so I don't want him on MY property anymore. Back to Nate; Andy's should be proud and happy to have such a epic person working for them. The man ran a free test in informing that the key should program to my car and gave me very simple instructions on how to do it myself instead of trying to charge me to do it. Previously we have used this company for their services and was able to get the information we needed, HOWEVER we have now chosen to go elsewhere-upon calling for an updated quote for our business in the instance we are in need of getting our building re-keyed with keys reprinted-I was given different information than what was previously confirmed. I appreciate their service but the lack of logistics and company policy regarding what I asked wasn't available. My question "whats the cost to have a lock rekeyed and a new key made." Seems like a simple question to me.l specially when I gave them the lock and key information. If there are different costs we would need to know all those. What I was told is that they cant provide that information because it depends on if they come out at 8:30-9pm or a different time. I asked them to clarify what the 30 minute time window was and I also asked to confirm what those costs were for each different time. They told me they couldnt give me an exact cost because it was up to the person who would be getting the call because they would be getting out of bed to go do the service. (At this point if my query verification I realized that I was inadvertently asking this person to clarify and be accountable to the vague information he was giving and it was triggering him.) Which means they apparently dont have an exact company policy for emergencies or after hours. It would seem standard to me that if they have emergency on call people that these people would have agreed to this work and it would be expected. They would have specific rates and should be able to quote those. Even if there are times when they cannot go out. Pretty disappointed because previously I was quoted all this information from another associate about 6 months ago. It was simple and easy and loved the service! During this call the person acted annoyed that I was confirming what they were telling me and for what ever reason couldnt answer with specifics. I don't understand what is so difficult in regards to having policies and procedures that are standard business practices for the customer to inquire about. If there is a cut off for services then the customer should be able to know that, if there are different rates then the customer should be able to know that too. Any logistics a customer should be able to ask about. Seriously surprised about this interaction and it showed me a whole different side of this company that I never knew. I have recommended them to so many people and now I am torn on whether its ethical to send people here if this is the treatment they will receive. I will give it a bit to see if things change or maybe they needed to do some education with their employees? I want to give more stars and am very happy to adjust this rating after a different experience SPECIFICALLY because I know they can do better. read more

They left us high and dry when we needed help. They refused to make a key for us after we locked our keys and wallets in our car. According to them I needed to present them my physical ID in order to make a key. I guess the guy didn't listen to me or understand at all. The wallets in my fricking car dude! The man on the phone reused to make me a key for us even when I offered a photo of my Id, my birth certificate, SS card, and vehicle title. What a moron. He lost our business, my families business, and anyone else I can warn. I find this really sh*tty behavior for a local business. It honestly seemed like he was happy to leave us out of luck. I locked my keys and wallet in the trunk of my car. Since I do not have my wallet in hand I do not have my photo ID. Because of this they refused to make a key for my car. They were super friendly, and answered any questions I had about programming the fobs once I got home to the vehicle. Wow. Prompt and quick. I recently purchased a new townhouse and wanted to rekey three locks. So I checked out locksmiths on Yelp and chose this one. I made an appointment, I was given a half hour range but the service man showed up right on time. I was really excited when he offered to key three locks all alike.
