With constant worries about horrible skin I was so happy that the appt I made for my husband went so well. It's not easy to weed thru the amounts of dermatologists in nyc. It can really be exhausting because my husband is super picky about making sure to docs close to where we live so at least I had geographical location to narrow it down a bit. Thankfully Dr Woolrich didn't disappoint with his great service and professionalism. My husband was really satisfied with the treatment he got and trust me it's not easy to please him and his never ending quest for perfection lol. The office was very clean upon arrival and the prescriptions cleared up my husband skin super fast which means the doc knows his stuff. The supporting staff was very helpful and he took our insurance which is sometimes a challenge with other doctors. The appt was easy to book and we didn't wait long once we arrived. Horrible experience with this doctor. After reading reviews of how patients are put in the waiting room for up to an hour to see the doctor, I went reluctantly anyway since my eczema was acting up and I needed to see someone in the area. Low and behold, I had to wait for an hour before seeing him. When I did, the doctor spent less than a minute with me. I told him the prescription I've been using and informed him that it had been working so he agreed to write me another one. What I didn't realize is that he wrote me a prescription for the tiniest amount of the cream I needed (guessing he just wanted me to come back in for a refill ASAP and pay for another visit). In addition, you are not allowed to make any payments online or over the phone so admittedly, I took a while before I finally went in to make the payment. Office was closed...so eventually the office sent me over to collections...and the bill was arbitrarily increased by $30. In the end, I really did not want to deal with the hassle so ended up paying the additional $30 that seemed to come out of nowhere. Definitely will not be going in again and will advise others to avoid this office!!! read more

I just wasted 4 hours of my life... After an hour of researching well reviewed dermatologists in NYC who would take our insurance, we decided on Dr. Andrew Woolrich, MD for a full-scan appointment. This afternoon I took off work and rode the 3 trains for an hour and a half to get in to his office. Unfortunately the last subway wound up delayed in the tunnel. I couldn't call the office, but ran to get there arriving 20 minutes late for my 2:20pm appointment.... which they cancelled because "it was now too late in the day and the doctor has another procedure so he'll have to reschedule for another day." Yes, it is my fault that I didn't leave work another earlier to make more of a buffer, and no it is not the doctors fault that I was late. But cancelling after just 20 minutes!? In the middle of the day? I explained to the secretary that I had a 3 hour trip for the sake of the appointment, but she really didn't seem to care. They certainly weren't in any way apologetic. I can't comment on Dr. Woolrich's actual competence or manner, because I've never even met the man. He didn't even have the decency to ask his receptionist to ask me to wait so that he could come out for 2 minutes to apologize for the inconvenience or to find out if I had some sort of emergency. He may / may not be a wonderful doctor, but definitely a fail at customer service. I won't be going back. ever. read more

Great dermatologist. The office staff actually calls the day before to remind you of your appointment. That's a good indication the staff has their stuff in order. Dr. Woolrich knows his stuff, treats you effectively and has a great bedside manner. His appointments are usually running late, but its worth it to see a doctor that I trust and gives you real answers. He treated my boyfriend too. We both love Dr. Woolrich! read more

I highly recommend avoiding Dr. Woolrich. First he treated me for something I didn't have and made me come back 3 times to just pad the bill. He got fully paid by my insurance company and I paid a copay all four times I was there, but he still sent me a bill for more money. He seems to be there more for the money. I didn't think he deserved more money so I didn't pay the extra money he was demanding. He then sent it to a collection agency which went on my credit report. I cannot understand some of the 'negative' reviews for Dr Woolrich. Saw him twice in the last 4 weeks for removal and biopsy of two growths on my face. Quick, effective and easy. It is rare to find any MD who is very capable, thorough and kind. Dr Woolrich is one. Again, I want to see an MD with a busy office, and don't mind waiting, knowing that I'll also be treated with his full focus and the needed time to complete my examination and treatment. read more

Terrible doctor, treated me 3 times for something that I don't think I even had, got paid plenty through my insurance, deductible and other bills I paid, but still referred me to credit collections over a few hundred dollars which is now on my credit report and affecting me getting a mortgage. I have been a patient of Dr Woolrich for 10 years--I see him once a year for a check up. Each year he runs later and later on his appts. This past checkup, I waited over 1 hour . I was so angry when he showed up that I barely spoke to him. And he did not offer an apology for his lateness.There is no excuse for disrespecting people's time. And the arrogance of not apologizing for that is simply unacceptable. Too many other options. A medical practice is a business and needs to be run with an acceptable level of customer service. I went for a full body cancer screening and had some things in mind that I wanted looked at, including a black spot on a toenail that wasn't going away. I was placed in a waiting room. He came in and I was fully clothed and in long sleeves. He asked me to lift up my top, essentially flashing him, which felt pretty odd and uncomfortable, and downright creepy. He looked quickly at my front and back, checked as far as I could roll up my sleeves and that was it. I was so discombobulated by that awkward exam that I forgot about the toenail. Usually a full body cancer screen entails wearing a gown and having your whole body checked. He also gave me an RX for some cream for some discoloration on my face and the office staff said she couldn't call it in because it was over the counter. I informed her, after looking it up, that it is RX only and had to argue with her until she left for lunch and the woman who took her place checked with MD and called in my rx. They also only take cash or checks for copayment, which I didn't have so had to go find an ATM and come back.Ugh. Needless to say, I'm not going back there and would not refer anyone there.I have another appt elsewhere to have my toenail checked and hopefully a proper body check with a female derm. read more

Today, I was so appalled at the treatment of Dr. Woolrich and his staff that I literally had to stop everything I was doing to come online to post reviews to let other people know so that they would not waste their time or money seeing this horribly callous, rude, and [seemingly]greedy doctor. It doesn't often come a time when I am so compelled to stop everything I am doing to write reviews, but today this office and practice and Dr. have taken the cake! I have left phone messages over the past two weeks and received no response,no return phone calls and today, had to have my husband call them to actually get some sort of answer from them as to why they have not been doing the simple task of filling necessary paperwork for my insurance. It started off as a simple Rx refill with my pharmacy (not a new Rx refill, I had three refills left on the Rx he wrote me a few months back), then finding out that the prior authorization had expired, so the pharmacy faxed over the prior authorization document to my doctor (as they always have) and I waited and waited for a week with nothing- no response. When I found out -via my insurance company- that the Dr. had still not returned the 2nd half of the prior authorization, I have been calling them for over a week to find out why. After my husband calls them today (because they have not responded or bothered to return any of my calls), they tell him that the Dr. refuses to complete the paperwork, unless I come in for another office visit(co-pay) and he's trying to change [my already completed prescription] to a lesser amount in order to manipulate me into having to come into his office to have it changed back to the original quantity! I was floored, I have never in my life had a Dr. to be so greedy as to try to hold my prescription refill hostage so that he can get his hands on more money for an office visit! And for an already existing prescription refill -not for a new Rx or refill! And today when I was trying to find out why he was doing this, the rude girl on the phone literally told me she had better things to do with her time and ended the call. When I first came to this Dr., I knew that he seemed shady by his brusque and short demeanor (he barely examined me -just looked at my face-or did anything other than ask me what prescription I needed), and by his clothing (he dresses like a wannabe gangster from New Jersey), not to mention his filthy (and seriously outdated)office, and rude staff. However, I overlooked all of that because I only needed one thing and I figured if I needed any real medical treatment or had any serious dermatological issues, I would seek a different Dr., because I'd never put my life in this guy's hands! So in short, do yourself a favour and go to any other doctor, because who wants to see a [seemingly]greedy, callous Dr. in a filthy practice with incredibly rude staff? read more

I don't know why some people have bad reviews here. I went to 4 doctors who could not properly diagnose and fix my problem before getting to this Doctor. I never experienced an issue with waiting a long time at the office or appointment difficulties with the office staff. Everyone was nice and professional. Dr. Woolrich takes care of me and my teenage son (he has acne and I have high risk for melanoma). He has taken care of my son's skin issues to the point that we can barely tell he had acne! I am particularly impressed that Dr. Woolrich tries to rely mainly on topicals rather than pills when possible. (I am not thrilled with him being on months of antibiotics, if we could avoid it...he was never to the point where he needed accutaine). I had a rather large and unsightly growth on my right ear. I had gone to one dermatologist to have it removed, she did so and it grew right back. I went to another dermatologist who performed a similar procedure with the same results. When I went to Dr. Woolrich however, he took a very different approach, was much more thorough and followed up several times to make sure it was healing properly. My ear is now perfect. Went to Dr. Woolrich's office in NYC and was very impressed how his office took care of things and handle the entire introduction and consultation. I do review people, companies on some of these sites before I go have a consultation and yes there are good and bad reviews and honestly sometimes you can't access things by these reviews depending on what the need is. There is always two sides to every story and sometimes you can't make everyone happy. I felt Dr. Woolrich was very knowledgeable and felt very comfortable about his overall discussion with me. I am now a patient of his office and feel very comfortable referring him if someone asked who do I suggest as a dermatologist. I am old school and when you find something good you stick to it. i have been a patient of dr woolrich for aprx 12 years. the first time he examined me involved a total body scan , he discovered that i had a melanoma, which was quite advanced. no other doctor found this tumor. if dr woolrich had not found this growth i would have died. it was a miracle , but actually it was dr woolrich. ever since that experience, i have been going to his office every 3 months. he has found several other melanomas . but since i see him 4 x a year the new tumors he finds are small. but i always keep in mind that he truly saved my life i am 84 years old & i have seen many dermatologists, but there is only 1 dr woolrich read more
