When I found out that I had a basal cell carcinoma on the tip of my nose (yes, the worst possible location you can imagine), I started researching qualified Mohs-procedure surgeons. Every road led to Dr. Hale, and I now know why. Yes, Dr. Hale has all the wonderful characteristics mentioned in other reviews - thorough, concerned, professional, kind, and more. But beyond these factors, Dr. Hale is an incredibly skilled surgeon. In my case, the Mohs procedure required the doctor to carve out a hole in my nose (slightly larger than the diameter of cigarette burn), which then needed to be stitched up in a fashion that would leave minimal scarring. As you can imagine, I was absolutely terrified, and also convinced that there was no way my nose would ever heal from such an invasive procedure. Dr. Hale (and her equally kind, attentive and professional staff) did an absolutely outstanding job on my Mohs procedure. She explained every step in the procedure as we went along, gave me options where relevant, and operated both thoroughly and quickly. Dr. Hale made very sure that she removed all of the dangerous cells, while also protecting the healthy tissue wherever possible. Ultimately, she had to create several significant incisions to repair the site of the damage, and very skillfully manipulated the skin to close the hole. At this point (2 months later), I'm still healing, but I have no doubt that I will have no scarring at all. Dr. Hale has generously offered laser treatments, which will continue to reduce the scarring. But in reality, most people don't even notice the scar - I could happily live with it as is. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Hale, for tackling a scary surgery in a very highly visible location. Dr. Hale is a top-notch dermatologist-- I could not recommend her more enthusiastically. Her stellar clinical credentials, professionalism, sensitivity and intelligence combine to make her make her a truly exceptional physician. She has a warm and positive demeanor, and really listens to her patients' needs. In my case, I first sought Dr. Hale out for a cosmetic procedure to help relieve my 'tired look'. I was relieved to hear her philosophy was to take a conservative approach. I was also delighted to find she had an expert aesthetic eye and gentle touch. (I am prone to bruising, but I had almost no after-effects after she administered Belotero to my undereye.) When I initially looked into getting fillers, I was very worried about looking artificial. Indeed, I consulted with several 'rock star' dermatologists before proceeding with Dr. Hale. The other physicians didn't listen to nor address my concerns, and wanted to perform far many more procedures than I felt was necessary. There was never a need to fear this with Dr. Hale. She made me comfortable from the moment she walked in the room, and she was very patient, taking the time to step me through my questions and anxieties. Most importantly, I left her office looking healthy, rested--and very natural. I could not recommend her more highly. In fact, I have several relatives and friends who have since become Dr. Hale-converts. That is endorsement unto itself!! Dr. Hale has been my dermatologist for 3 years. I just recently followed her from 34th Street to her new, beautiful practice on East 64th Street that she shares with her sister and fellow dermatologist, Dr. Julie Karen. Dr. Hale saved my face. I had a horrible experience with a laser procedure done by a doctor in Germany that went terribly wrong. I came to New York and visited several notable doctors including Dr. Hale. Every other doctor looked at my face and said they didn't believe there was much they could do to help. However, Dr. Hale was confident she could make it better. She told me it would take a few procedures but that there would be an improvement. She was so positive and reassuring. And like other reviews mentioned, she is intelligent and sure of herself without being arrogant. She is the kind of person you wish would be a friend of yours in your private life. She made me feel like there was going to be light at the end of the tunnel. After about a year and 3 different laser treatments, nobody would ever know that there had ever been anything wrong with my face. Thanks to Dr. Hale it looks perfect now. Lucky me met Dr. Elizabeth Hale over three years ago. Walking into her office brings a smile to ones face! The office staff are friendly, considerate and a pleasure to talk to! The wait time is never an issue! I had MOHS surgery many times and one can hardly see the scars due to her outstanding expertise! Her "bedside manner" & cheerful disposition makes the patient feel at ease without any worries at all! Dermatology doesn't get any better than Dr. Elizabeth Hale. It is extremely difficult to find a dermatologist who specializes in both medical and cosmetic purposes, and yet Dr. Hale is a genius at both. She is patient, thoughtful, and really takes her time when evaluating my skin to determine what is best for me. She is honest and precise with what I need (and don't need). Her office staff is absolutely amazing, as well. They are extremely accommodating and always fit me in when I need a last minute injection or have any issues. Just had procedure performed by Dr. Hale - Her office is efficient and well run. The staff knows exactly what they are doing and they do it very professionally. Dr. Hale and I spoke about several procedures that were available.. She clearly explained each procedure; time/downside/effectiveness/cost and answered each question in a simple to understand way. I never felt that she was pushing me into more than I asked for or more than I needed. The aftercare was also very attentive - plenty of ice/rest/information. How often do you get to say that someone made an incision in your head, scooped a chunk out of you, yet you still love them? I had Mohs Surgery with Dr Hale in July of 2013 that was a bit more serious than I expected. The cancer was on my temple and I ended up needing 22 stitches in total to close the wound. I loved her approach of explaining everything in detail prior to and during the surgery. In follow up sessions since, she has decreased my scar to almost non-existent with some laser touch-ups. Not sure that I can fit enough positive adjectives into this space regarding the treatment that I have received from Dr. Hale. Simply put, she is world class. She performed a Mohs surgery near my eyebrow that she masterfully pulled together with 24 stitches. Despite my initial fear of a Frankenstein look, one year later it is nearly impossible to detect. Outstanding overall experience. Accurately diagnosed severe basal cell skin cancer on scalp after five years of mis-diagnosis by several other dermatologists. Moved rapidly to perform MOES and coordinate plastic surgeon to close and repair scalp. Excellent knowledge, bed side manner, plenty of time for patient and explaining everything thoroughly and then very skillfully performed surgery. I have been researching for about a year for a new Dermatologist. I found the BEST. I found Dr. Hale by googling top NY doctors. These can be hit or miss in my opinion. I made an appointment for an annual skin check. She was thorough and pleasant. Every other Derm I have been too checks my skin in about 2mn. Dr. Hale even went the extra mile to get to know me and ask about my general concerns about my skin. Its hard to find that kind of care. Cannot say enough good things about Dr Hale and her practice. She is thorough and did a great job on two totally different concerns 1) precancerous mole and 2)acne She addressed both with concern and seriousness and did not minimize the mild acne. I find it interesting that the only negative reviews here are from people who haven't even met Dr. Hale due to insurance issues, etc. and that some of her best reviews are "hidden" (I didn't even find them until I searched deeper for more reviews.) I never understand why YELP prioritizes random reviews from people who never even meet the doctors. I have been seeing Dr. Hale for several years now, and always am treated promptly, efficiently and thoroughly.
