I find it surprising that anyone would want to see Dr. Berkowitz after their first encounter with him. He acted like he was in a rush, despite his waiting room being empty, his medical ass't does 95% of the visit - and he doesn't even examine your skin. Then the office tries to push a specialty pharmacy - that tries to sell you brand medicines - vs. generic (and I am not talking about unusual drugs - as I have been a nurse for 45 years). he has no "bedside" manner - is not likeable - and showed no interest in me or my problem. I found Dr. Berkowitz on Yelp. I was able to get an appointment about 10 days out. His office is pleasant, and he saw me on time. He quickly diagnosed my issue as well as an over-the-counter remedy, but stayed around to ask if I had any other questions. All-in-all, I had a great experience. Incidentally, I am uninsured. Before making an appointment, I called around to other dermatologists on the Upper West Side, and this was the most affordable for a self-pay consultation. read more

Came for a routine skin check - I wish every doctor appointment could be like this. Really beautiful waiting room, polite staff. The doctor takes his time to ask about your general health and discuss any concerns you may have. During the exam, a nurse is present to take notes. I was in and out in half an hour! Dr Berkowitz is extremely smart, nice, knowledgeable and will take the time to explain things to you. However a doctor's visit is more than just the doctor. The office manager, I found to be extremely unhelpful. My prescription was filled incorrectly by their office 3 times and each time I called back to get it resolved the office manager made it sound like it was not worth her time to work with me. That was strike one and two. Then when I came in to have my appointment (which I had made a point of telling them was very challenging because of my work travel) they realized my insurance was not current. The office manager curtly asked if I would come back at another date. Frankly, that is is ridiculous. How about I just call my insurance company? Which I did and got it resolved in 5 minutes. Much better than another morning lost. Geesh, I cannot be the first person to have that issue. Strike three. I won't be back, I understand that it's probably annoying to have clients with specific needs, but come on, that's why it's a job. Work with people to resolve their issues, don't dump it all back on them. read more

This is a review for Dr. Claire Wolinsky, a dermatologist at Dr. Berkowitz's practice. This was my first time having an annual skin exam. I was nervous (a friend of mine was just diagnosed with a very serious skin problem), and, nervous because I didn't know what to expect from the experience. For myself, it's not every day you meet someone and then immediately get naked on a table. The office is clean and modern, located one block from the 1 Train. The front desk was easy to deal with and very efficient with paperwork and scheduling. I would like to note, however, that this is the second time I've seen paperwork to keep a credit card on file with a doctor's office, in case your insurance doesn't cover all charges. I told the front desk I did not feel comfortable keeping this information on file and, at that point, they said it was optional. In this age of identity theft and information security concerns, they should mention the optional part upfront. But I digress... Dr. Wolinsky was welcoming, friendly and thorough. She explained each step of the exam process, what she was looking for, and thoughtfully discussed my concerns and questions (I had several.). It was an excellent first visit with a new doctor. I feel comfortable with her diagnosis and follow-up plan. And, I will be recommending her to friends/family that are looking for a new dermatologist. read more

After trying numerous dermatologists I finally found Dr. Berkowitz after a referral from my GP. He is so smart, friendly and unlike almost every other doctor, doesn't rush you. He seems equally skilled in medical and cosmetic dermatology, which is what I was looking for. His staff is the best medical/assistant/secretary staff I've ever encountered as well. The office is gorgeous, soothing, modern and private. And I never have to wait when I have an appointment and it isn't difficult to get an appointment. Made an appointment with dr. Berkowitz about 10 days prior and had no call or message to notify me as a reminder. So, I had to call and find out myself if I actually had an appointment. I spoke with Lisa on 11/10/17 around 10 am and she told me they don't have me on a file. I called again after 15 min insisting that I am pretty sure I was scheduled. She kept putting me on hold...eventually, she did find me, said she called and left a message on my phone a day prior, which never happened. I had to cancel my appointment questioning the competence of this doctor's office stuff (not the doctor, since I never got to meet him). read more

She has a wonderful bedside manner and always makes me feel like an important client, (my friends have all reported similar experiences). Dr. Wolinski follows up with me after my appointments to check in on my progress and strategize next moves. She is very knowledgeable and spends time explaining treatments and what to expect from them. She has also gone above and beyond for me based on the results I'm looking for and the progress we've made. Dr. Wolinski has even looked for additional opportunities for me to receive services and understands my cost limitations. I've been seen by Dr. Berkowtiz, Dr. Wolinsky and Heather Johnson Pa for years and I've also recommended friends and family to this wonderful practice on the upper West side. The office is beautiful and spacious. And they are great at following all Covid guidelines. The staff is always accommodating. They've fit my friends and I in last minute for emergency visits a few times and always willing to take the extra time to answer all of your questions. I've had filler and Botox from Dr. Wolinsky and she does a superb job- many of my friends go to her now too. Laser treatments and Botox from heather too- they have a long list of cosmetic procedures that I still need to try. And being a Westsider I love that I don't have to go to the Eastside or take my daughter across town to be seen by the dermatologist we can do everything right in our own neighborhood. Huge Plus for me is they take insurance and are right by the train/bus and even parking. I definitely recommend this hidden gem of an office. read more

Dr. Berkowitz's bedside manner is amazing! He is very smart, very professional and knows how to ease his client's concerns. He saw me at last minute under strange circumstances. I am extremely fair-skinned with strawberry blonde hair, I have a long & sordid family history of skin cancer, and I grew up in South Florida. You do the math - I'm like a walking risk factor. After moving to NYC 2 years ago, during which time I had been delinquent in keeping up with my regular dermatology screenings, I made an appointment. Dr. Berkowitz couldn't have been more lovely: he was a great combination of efficient & thorough, extremely friendly, and explained everything as he made his way over the entirety of my pale, translucent self. He did have to take a biopsy, which unfortunately came back positive. He called me himself to explain the results, and when I went back to have it removed, he was very sensitive to my fear of needles/procedures. He removed the offending spot quickly, all the while distracting me by chatting and making it all seem like "no big deal" - he truly instills a sense of calm in the patient! He asked to see me 4x in the next year to keep an eye on things, and I can't believe I'm about to say this but....I am actually looking forward to going back! The staff is also incredibly nice and helpful. Go - you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been a patient since the spring, and had good experiences. So, when my husband needed an annual checkup and to have some Moles of Uncertain Intent looked at, I booked an appointment. We were on the way and traffic was pretty terrible, so I called the office to let them know we might be a few minutes late. "How late?" the receptionist asked, and I responded that I wasn't sure, that would be impacted by the vagaries of traffic but my estimate was 10 minutes or os. "Because she has back-to-back patients and she leaves at five and if you are more than 10 minutes late, she can't see you." I said I thought we'd be in the timeframe, but of course not being that guy "Bob" from those commercials where he has his own lane on the highway, and also not having a Tardis handy, I repeated that I thought we'd be OK, couldn't guarantee it but we are on the way. She put me on hold, and another person answered the phone and asked me, again, when I would be there. I repeated myself whereupon she repeated that the Dr had back-to-back patients, leaves at 5, and would bump me if I was more than 10 minutes late. I thought maybe they could be a little flexible, but no dice. SO, OK, we turned the cab around and went home. Here's the thing...when I had previous appointments, I certainly waited in the office. Not for an inordinate amount of time, but perhaps for 10-15 minutes. Which, for a doctor's office. isn't outrageous. We have been trained to believe that our time is never ever as important as a Doctor's time, so we just suck it up and wait on them. Such is the culture. However, for reception to be so hard-nosed when a patient *calls*in*to*let*them*know* they're doing their best to get there on time doesn't feel great. Not a massive issue, but it discourages me from returning. Life is unpredictable, and being flexible and compassionate are profoundly helpful when it comes to navigating the often hectic nature of city life. It is likely we'll try somewhere else in the hopes that a 10 minute window of flexibility and patience is not a one-way street. read more

dr wolinsky is a terrific dermatologist, i would rate her 10 stars if i could.dr wolinsky cleared up my rash that i went to numerous doctors for 2 years and could not resolved. she explains step by step how she treats the condition. also she suggested to me to be screened for melanomer , since that runs in my family. i will return next year for my annual check up. also will recommend my family and friends , to dr wolinsky. .thanks again bennett h read more

Not sure about Dr. Berkowitz, because I never met him. I was running 5 minutes late and let reception know per a call. "no problem" was the response. I arrived and reception said "the doctor left for lunch". She acted like she was a bouncer at a bar, and couldn't care less. Did she not let the doctor know that I would be there 5 minutes late?? Was his sandwich more urgent than my appointment? Not sure how Dr. Berkowitz allows this person to work there. My appointment was for something rather serious as well. "Well, it's just a follow-up". Only good experiences. Dr Berkowitz is prompt, personable, and avoids unnecessary procedures. I'd trust him at his word, especially to find out if I "really" needed to worry about a derm issue or pursue something more invasive. Highly recommended. read more
