I went to Dr. Comite to have laser treatment on my face for 4 brown spots I wanted removed. The procedure did not take long at all and was not painful as I was expecting. Before starting the laser treatment, he clearly explained what would be done and what I would feel and what possible side effects would be over the next few day or weeks. He took photos of the areas he would treat. He is very professional and knowledgable and answered my questions and concerns. I appreciated that later that night he called me to see how I was doing and to find out how my skin was feeling and looking so far. It shows that he really cares about his patients. Within just a few days 3 of the 4 brown spots were totally gone and with no scarring! The 4th brown spot got much lighter and smaller. It actually was a birthmark so not surprised it didn't completely disappear. I am extremely pleased with the results! His office is conveniently located to Grand Central Station and the subways which pleases me. His staff was very nice and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Stephen L. I'm very surprised by all of the 5-star reviews for Dr Comite on Yelp. That should be a sign that perhaps some of these Yelp reviewers may not be authentic? Not even one with even a 4-star? I believe Dr Comite has good intentions. But patients should watch out for certain business practices designed to keep you coming back for more visits than required. For example, Dr Comite may take samples and send them to a lab but will insist that you visit him each week for a quick billable visit where he will look at you for 30-seconds and say 'we're still waiting for the lab results to come in'..... if you're not careful, the office may keep this up for up many weeks and then try to repeat the process. If you choose to visit Dr Comite or any dermatologist, do not go back to the office for a visit until you're certain any test or lab results are in, otherwise you will be paying for meaningless visits. Also, the costs of these lab results seem to vary. It's good to ask questions about why one particular lab result may cost $70 and another similar one may cost $400? Another thing that a patient needs to be aware of is that Dr Comite's philosophy toward dermatology is all about 'managing' and reducing your symptoms. In my opinion, he seems to more much focused on long-term, minimally invasive procedures.. such as the application of topical medications, and recommending lifestyle changes and over-the-counter products, etc rather than prescribing powerful medicines or employing hi-tech devices and techniques that other doctor's may not hesitate to recommend. In the past, Dr Comite has given me one diagnosis and then months later, he will offer a contradictory diagnosis. If your condition does not improve, I have seen him become agitated and blame the patient and their genetics for the problem or lack of progress. At other times, Dr Comite was very kind, patient and attentive. So it your treatment depends on his mood that day. Another tip if you visit any dermatologist for a consultation, is that you might just go into the office to deal with a small, localized issue, but the doctor will insist on giving you a 'full-body' exam, which will quadruple the cost of your consultation without warning. If you are paying out-of-pocket, then I advise you to refuse this request for a 'full-body' exam if you are just going in for a quick consultation. Overall, I think Dr Comite cares for his patients. But if you're not seeing any improvement in your condition after several months, then don't hesitate to seek care elsewhere. read more

very friendly doctor! I searched Google to find dermatologist near me because I had weird bump on my upper lip area. I called in to make an appointment and was able to book on same day! Office was easy to find, very close to Grand central station. I went in and since I was a new patient, I filled out some info and soon, I was called in. Dr. Comite examined the problem area very carefully and told me my options. He answered all my questions and was very patient. He asked me several times if I had any other questions. He referred me to plastic surgeon near me who is very good with reasonable price since I needed a surgery in sensitive area. Dr. Comite himself called me later to check on me to make sure I had any other questions and told me I can call him anytime if I have any questions. I was surprised since no doctors did that EVER!! I called many other dermatologists in Manhattan to compare initial visit price since I don't have insurance and Dr. Comite's office had most reasonable price and was close from me. Dr. Comite has helped overall improve my skin with his recommendations and facial creams. He is a very patient doctor and is willing to answer any questions you may have - he spent the time to answer all of my questions in terms of improvement and medications. His staff is very friendly and also willing to answer any questions - Scheduling is easy, as well as rescheduling. The wait in the office is usually 10-15 minutes max. Dr. Comite is a caring and thorough dermatologist, who I cannot recommend highly enough. I have been seeing Dr. Comite monthly, for the past few months regarding an Accutane course to combat acne. I relocated to New York from Philadelphia mid course. Dr. Comite made the transition painless. He is always up to date on the latest procedures and treatments. Dr. Comite specializes in the treatment of acne via Accutane. He has given me such great advice for how to deal with side effects and dryness. Another benefit of using him as a doctor vs. many others is that he does his own blood work. Firstly, with accutane you need to get blood work done every month, which in most cases may mean not only a monthly doctors visit but also, a trip to the lab. Dr. Comite does it all in office, streamlining the process. Overall, Dr. Comite is an amazing dermatologist. I am so happy to have him as my doctor. read more

I started seeing Dr. Comite approximately two years ago. Though in my 30s, I was still getting pimples on my face on a consistent basis and I figured that enough was enough. Dr. Comite helped me with a more permanent fix. He understood my situation and put me on a new acne routine. While my skin improved, I was still frequently getting pimples. Dr. Comite then recommended that I take the next step and go on a low dose of accutane. Problem solved. I haven't had a single mark on my face since I started the medication. Dr. Comite is an exceptional dermatologist. I have been going to Dr. Comite for almost 15 years and I do not have enough good things to say about him and his staff. He has that rare combination of being both extremely knowledgeable and highly personable with a first-rate bedside manner. He is up-to-date on all issues and very detailed. Given my fair skin and some other medical issues, I have regular issues with my skin and the doctor has always quickly and very efficiently dealt with all my issues. I have received many compliments from close friends saying how much better my skin has gotten over the years. He provides very quick and personal follow-up (with any moderate issue, he almost always calls later that day to check in). He and his staff take detailed and comprehensive notes (my file is now almost the size of novel) which means that nothing falls through the cracks. He is extremely accommodating when it comes to appointments. Moreover, I recently had a skin issue come up on a Friday before a holiday weekend so I contacted him and he came into the office on his day off to take care of the issue. I was recommended to him from family and when I first went to see Dr. Comite my skin was in bad shape-I had very active acne, worse than I ever experienced before in my life.
