I want to love the guy he's a great guy humble and very fastidious but has an aggressive hand you might leave with more filler than you wanted and he kind of jabs it in. Not a smooth touch so you will be bruised and maybe discolored for months. Been going to him over a year and keep going back but he needs to soften his touch. Like him as a person. As we had discussed, Dr Ostad injected fillers under my eyes to reduce the hollows under my lower lids. The fillers did a good job in filling the hollows, but a few weeks later I noticed unsightly moon-sliver bags under my eyes. Dr Ostad identified them as naturally occurring festoons and recommended a laser treatment to improve their appearance. Luckily, I got a second opinion and was astonished to learn that the bags were a direct result of the fillers. Apparently, too much filler injected can create bags. These sit lower than naturally occurring festoons and are often accompanied by a green tint to the skin (the Tyndall effect), which I also had. To remove the bags, all that was needed was an injection of Hylenex, to dissolve (most of) the fillers. It was administered by the second doctor and am very satisfied with the result. I don't blame Dr. Ostad for the undesired consequences of the fillers - this can happen. But I am very disappointed that the real cause of the bags was not identified. Instead, a completely different treatment, more painful and more involved, was suggested. read more

During my initial visit Dr. Ostad said he could do wonders for my eye bags and jowls without plastic surgery. "Satisfaction guaranteed," he said. And that results would last 1-2 years. He proceeded to give me 10 fillers and some Botox. As the days and weeks went by I saw little to no difference, particularly in the eye area. I followed up with a visit and letter in which I voiced my dissatisfaction. Today I returned after 4 months and he completely backtracked. He said my eyes could not be improved other than with surgery, and that he never said, never would say "satisfaction guaranteed." This time he said that Botox wears off after 4 months, and that the lines on my forehead had returned due to frowning (so it was my fault). And despite earlier promises that if I was unhappy I could come back free of charge, I only got credit for the single filler he used on my eyes ($1000 out of $10,000). His rationale was that the rest of the work on my face was a success. read more

Dr. Ostad's work is nothing short of spectacular! A dear friend recommended I go to Dr. Ostad for a consultation about how to refresh my sagging face. First of all his entire office ambiance and staff are warm and welcoming. You feel comfortable as soon as you enter. I had reviewed all of the information and videos on the Doctor's website so I already knew I would be meeting a dedicated, qualified, and unique professional. He took time to listen to everything I said, asked pertinent questions and then went over in detail what could be done to make me look better. I ended up getting a short procedure of Botox and fillers. The process was not painful and he talked me through everything he was doing while Coleen, one of his assistants focused on making sure I was comfortable. When Dr. Ostad finished and handed me the mirror I was flabbergasted! I kept looking around the room thinking there was some kind of special lighting on the ceiling or in the mirror but there was nothing but the unforgiving light of a doctor's office. We have only had exceptional experiences with both Dr. Ostad and his entire staff. He is probably one of the nicest, polite and caring doctors anyone will ever come across. Dr. Ostad has been my dermatologist for many years. He has removed about 8 squamous cell carcinomas from various parts of my body through these years. Not only were they successfully removed but due to his expertise there are no visible scars. He not only is a wonderful doctor but a compassionate, caring human being who has gone out of his way to see me and stitch me up when I have fallen and can't stop bleeding from the wound; whether it be after regular hours or during a time he normally is not in the office. I went to Dr Ostad for a full body checkup last week and my experience was exceptionary. Upon arrival I completed the paperwork and got called within 5 minutes which is unusual. He appeared very sociable, highly informed and during the checkup he really took the time to discuss my health and preventionary measures which I appreciated. My wife went to see Dr Ariel Ostad for her annual skin checkup. She had been gong to him for years and liked him. They found a spot of concern, the lab came back it was cancer like and should be removed. This was in November 2011. We were getting married at the end of April 2012. Dr Ostad said no problem it will be healed in plenty of time after all it was a very small spot being removed from the upper ankle. Well it did not go well at all. To make a long story short she had to go to a cosmetic surgeon have painful debridements done and she is left with a dark brown spot the size of a baseball. Dr. Ostad simply said "this happens sometimes". We incurred all the additional expenses from the cosmetic surgeon as well the cost of the not so successful treatments by Dr Ostad's office. I generally wouldn't recommend selecting your medical professionals based on Yelp reviews, but for those that insist on doing so, I've had nothing but good experiences with Dr. Olstad going back several years. He's efficient and friendly, and his staff knows what they're doing. Now, I only go to him for basic dermatology, but I have complete confidence in him for that. His practice is not cheap; if what you're doing is elective, then I can't believe you'd be surprised that a doctor on the Upper East Side was expensive. I've been going to Dr. Ostad for quite a few years, I had to stop seeing him due to a change in my health insurance for a brief period which was sad. But now he is on my insurance again. The receptionists are all super sweet and it's a smooth appointment making process. Dr. O is always on time and does a full body check- he is super through and always takes a sample of any irregular moles or marks that look suspicious. I have to go every 6 months for skin checks because of my many years of visiting tanning beds. I also had a broken skin vessel (vein) on my face and he lasered it off two years ago, I was super happy with the results with that too. read more

Several years ago I had a basal cell removed by Dr. Ostad. using a MOHS procedure. Unfortunately the office is run like a production line. Dr.Ostad told me that after removing the basal cell ( which was covered by Medicare) he could offer an additional procedure for $500 which would smooth the surface so that the there would be no evidence of the surgery. I agreed. The next thing that happened is he sent his assistants in to anesthetize the area. When he returned he started the procedure without asking me if the are was numb. He proceeded with much speed. Obviously the assistants did not do their job properly and as he began the second procedure I was in excruciating pain. Dr. Ostad is a wonderful, skilled and compassionate doctor. Aside from his expertise with cosmetic surgery, he's an exceptional practitioner of MOHS surgery. Both my husband and I have had carcinomas removed by Dr. Osted with excellent results. I was referred to him many years ago for removal of a carcinoma on my face that another doctor felt unable to treat. Dr. Osted not only handled it with ease, he also made sure the scar was next to invisible. As for cosmetic procedures, he's an adherent to the dictum of less is more. He asks first what bothers you before making any suggestions and he never, ever tries to sell you more than is necessary. On top of all that, he's unfailingly kind, considerate and patient; you never have to wait too long to be seen and you never feel rushed to be done. I walked in thinking I wanted/needed Botox; Dr. Ostad recommended Restylane instead because he said that with my small forehead, relaxing the muscles of my forehead with Botox would make my eyebrows look droopier than I would want. I liked that although I had an idea of what I *thought* I wanted, he steered me to something that made more sense medically and aesthetically based on his expertise. He explained thoroughly why he made this recommendation and answered my myriad questions kindly and patiently. Very quick to take your money and not provide proper care or follow-up. After aggressively administering a laser procedure which failed to the produce the intended results I was left with a $4,000 bill only to find out from a veteran plastic surgeon that the procedure performed was never going to correct the issue I was dealing with. A year later I had the proper procedure performed and proved to be the right course of action. After trying to speak to Dr. Ostad about this and explain how frustrated I was - I was told that 1) there was a more mature way to handle this; 2) that I had a "big ass" scar; and 3) that I am just a "negative person." What doctor speaks like this? I only wish I had gotten a second opinion 18 months earlier - and avoided the troubles with this practice. After waiting well beyond your appointment time, you're assigned to a room where, eventually, Dr. Ostad breezes in, shakes your hand, and is out the door before you can say Jack Robinson. An impersonal conveyer belt approach is not for everybody. I received the usual confirmation call two days prior to my appointment. I acknowledged the call. I showed up at the un-godly early appointed hour this morning to be told that Dr. Ostad is not there, and his employees tried to make me feel bad for not knowing that. I made a last minute appointment to see Dr. Ostad for lip augmentation... he fit me in his schedule which made me very happy. I waited for about 45 minutes until I actually saw the doctor... I was greated by the nurse who was very nice. She numbed me before meeting or consulting with the doctor which I thought was proactive... The doctor came in and reviewed with me details of the procedure. He numbed me further with an injection and began to inject my lips... I couldn't really feel anything but slight pressue. He was very precise and took his time. My lips swelled up right away so it was hard to know what my result was... it's not been about a week since the procedure and I am very happy with it. He did an amazing job. It was very black and blue though for about 6 days... Since when did docs climb to the top of the pecking order such that they can command high prices and make you sit around and wait for them? These guys have a policy to charge patients that don't show up, but the precious Doctor feels entitled to over book himself so that you, the mere customer, can spend 30 or more minutes in great anticipation of even getting into one of his 5 or 6 patient rooms. Great service!! Let me start by saying I HATE doctors or anything relating to being poked and prodded, but I have several moles that I knew needed to be looked at just in case. Ended up finding a Dr Oz clip on YouTube which featured Dr Ostad so I checked out his website and liked what I saw so I made an appointment. The staff was very friendly which eased my anxiety a lot. Dr Ostad saw me at exactly the time of my scheduled appointment (unheard of with Drs!). He was very informative and honest about which moles needed to be removed and which were nothing to worry about. Turns out only 2 out of the 5 were a concern which he handled very skillfully. It reminded me of getting a shot as a kid and thinking "that's it?" Overall an extremely pleasant trip to the Doctor!! read more

Dr. Ostad is very,very unprofessional. He cancelled my appointment suddenly on two separate occasions, then they offered me an appointment two weeks later. He started talking about facial filler when I was in the middle of an Ulthera treatment. Can you imagine that? A sales pitch when he's delivering laser energy to my face. When I told him I wasn't interested he asked me if I was a doctor. His assistant then started saying that I'm not going to get rid of "that" line, referring to a wrinkle near my mouth. They both spoke to me very rudely. He takes a lot of vacations, especially within a few weeks of major holidays and in August. Overall, I see him as a very arrogant person who looks down on his patients/customers. I would never recommend him to anyone. I see most of the other reviews here have the same tone and complaint. Worst experience I have ever had with a doctor in the United States. 10 minutes of visits, I was charged about 400$ in moles removal plus about 700$ from the lab and nobody ever even said a word it would be such an expensive procedure, even though I had inquired multiple times. Upon a follow up conversation they said they do not know how much the procedures will cost. Incredible... it's their job and they do not know how much they charge... quite surprising.. I am not complaining about the overall costs of the procedure. I just feel it should be professional and fair to discuss APPROXIMATE costs with the patient before performing the procedures, especially for such charges. If you go make sure you know ahead of time how much they will bill for the procedures. read more

This place is generally ok but make sure you know what you will be charged for before having anything done. I had a mole removed that was hidden underneath the hair on my scalp. It was not discolored or abnormal so I did not feel the need to have it tested. It was a precautionary procedure because if it did begin to change, it would have been difficult to notice. However because I opted not to have it tested, the procedure was labeled as "cosmetic". The result is that insurance won't cover it. So for a 45 second procedure (literally) I ended up shelling out $250. Maybe I should have known this but the physician's assistant should have at least taken a moment to say something like "If I do this, we're going to charge you for it. Are you sure you want it done?". I've been to Dr Ostad's office several times over the years for skin cancer screenings and I've only seen him once. The rest have been with the physician's assistants. While I've thought the service was ok, this last visit has left me looking for alternatives. read more

I have seen Dr. Ostad for skin cancer screening and 3 surgeries, and I think he is wonderful. He was genuinely interested in me, both as a person and as a patient. I used to feel very overwhelmed with my condition, but the doctor's care and advice made me feel so much more in control. He also did an excellent job with my surgeries, leaving very small scars. Unfortunately, my insurance company - for some unintelligible reasons - refused to pay for the procedures. I wasn't charged, but the doctor has since dropped the company, and so now I have to find a new dermatologist. read more

Dr. Ostad is a great doctor. Very hospitable and he is very knowledgeable in his field. He removed a basil cell on top of my head and is cancer free. Thank goodness. Unfortunately, I found out recently, that he no longer accepts health insurance accept for Medicare. Normally I paid a $25 or $30 deductible which my insurance covered the rest. When I checked out, I was shocked my insurance is no longer covered. This is when I discovered he no longer accepts any health insurance except Medicare. The bill came out to $150.00 for the visit. Due to this insurance change, I probably will not be going to him any longer. read more
