I had spoken with the arborist two months prior, and had changed my mind on a cut, and had specific instructions for another. I emailed the business to this effect, and left a voice message. Yet they went ahead without me being home. I will never understand why irreparable change should not have a final confirmation and sign off?? Consequently, three trees on our property were cut the way that the company wanted to do it, based on a conversation months before though our desires had changed. The arborist spoke with me on the phone that day, did his best to apologize and try to make it right by not charging us. He said he would come to the site and talk to me, which did not happen. My advice to tree services: get a final signature before carving up precious trees. You can not put them back together.

I told him fine come on Wednesday. when I got up Wednesday morning it was pouring rain, I thought for sure they would not show up. but as soon as it stopped raining they were there. they took down the tree, cleaned everything, helped put the yard furniture back where it belongs and even put the fountain up on the stump where I wanted it to go. they were polite, they were efficient ,and I can't say anything better. the two times I have used them I have had no disappointment whatsoever. Again, no one showed up at my house. I called their office at 5:45 to see what happened and was not given a reason for them not showing up. They offered to come in 30 minutes or reschedule for another day. I then asked how I should be sure that they would show up for the estimate, or to eventually do the tree trimming, and I was hung up on. I then called back, pointed out that I was hung up on, and was told to "call someone else" and was hung up on again.

On June 24,2026 at 6:51 p.m. a major wind blew thru our yard. We were not home at the time. There…read morewas severe damage throughout our neighborhood and along the gas line adjacent to the back of our property. We had a silver maple tree in our back yard that had to be 100 years old. We have lived here since 1976. Brown Tree service had cleaned and trimmed our trees 4 times over the years. The wind that blew through ripped off 4 major branches 12-18 inches in diameter. 2 landed in our garden bed on top of our potatoes, 1 landed on our fence, and 1 landed on another garden bed of ours. Our tree was not diseased at all. In fact, the branches that were ripped off looked very healthy. We called our Aborist, Ken Brown that night. When he was able to get back to us (about a half hour) he'd be here by 6:30 the next morning. He was true to his word. He walked out back, surveyed the damage and said that this was going to be a removal, not a salvage. He said he would have a crew on site within an hour. Again he was true to his word, the crew was "johnny on the job". The crew worked so well together. They also had to take care of another tree that had also lost a branch but just needed minor cleanup. Ken was by several times while they were working. It took all day but the clean up was fantastic. He told us that because of the other tree damage around the area he would be back the following week to grind out the stump. Once again, on the following Wednesday, his man showed up and really ground out the stump. He was here for three hours making sure that the stump was ground out almost a foot below ground level. Ken Brown has always done a professional job maintaining our trees and did a superlative job. We plan to replace our tree this fall after consulting with Ken. We wouldn't trust anyone else to do it. They came out and said it was spider mites and a fungal infection. I agreed to treat for both. Nearly a week goes by, I have to ask where the quote is. I sign the quote and they say my trees will be treated in 1-2 weeks. 10 days later I email them asking when my trees will be treated. No response. 12 days later I call, no answer, leave voicemail. No response. 13 days later I call again, speak to someone and they said I have to talk to the gentlemen that provided the quote. He then calls me - this is where it gets wonky. He says even though he said in his email he would treat in 1-2 weeks he said that he should not have said that because now was not the optimal time to spray. We need to be further into the growing season when the new growth of the tree is complete and they were laying eggs. That doing it now wouldn't be as effective and leave the new growth vulnerable to spider mites. It was a long conversation as I was concerned and it ended with me agreeing to wait and them saying I can trust what they are telling me and that this is best for my trees. Less than 24hrs from that conversation I get a text saying good news, I am the first stop to be sprayed this morning. What????? Why is there even a truck out spaying anyone if this is not the optimal time? I called them on their BS via text. I was lied to. Don't tell me now is not was is best, we agree to doing it later and then say we will be there within the hour to do what I told you yesterday is not the right thing to do. When I told them this was BS they told me to find another tree company to treat my trees and continued to taunt me via text encouraging me do research on this topic, saying "Good luck with you trees", laughing at my text calling them out. And for the record, I did not swear or threaten them. I did say they were feeding me BS and lying, which I still believe they are. I do not recommend using this company. Update: I did the research they told me to do. You are supposed to treat your trees for spider mites Feb-April in Chicago area. They were either lying or incompetent. I received three quotes ranging from $150 to $300; the $300 quote came from Manitoya Tree Service. I decided to hire them because timing was important to me, and they offered to perform the service within two days. They showed up on time, and ten minutes later, the small stump was gone. The person performing the service was very friendly, and up to this point, it was five-star service. The disappointment occurred when I learned that I would be charged a credit card fee, especially since I was already paying the highest quote. My daughter runs a tiny business compared to Manitoya Tree Service, and she never charges her customers credit card fees. For that reason, I am giving them three stars, and I will not recommend this company to my friends and family. In my opinion, every business should structure their prices to avoid nickel-and-diming customers, especially when customer satisfaction is on the line.
