This may be a long review but I think it's important to praise where it's earned as well as be honest in the negative feedback where it's earned. Here is our experience. First interaction was great with my husband, We got a second opinion we were given an itemized recommended list of things to do for the vehicle as well as prices. When we called to ask when we could bring it in to have the items done that we decided to move forward with we were told bring it in 7 AM the next day which we did and then was asked if it could be left overnight if needed we said that was fine, but it could only stay one night because we have children And work that is outside the hours of their open hours. We were told OK so we left it overnight the next afternoon we got a call again stating that they wanted to keep it again because they hadn't even gotten to it. My husband reminded them about the previous conversation that we could not leave it for two nights and pleaded with them to at least complete the alignment so we can get the car back that day and then we could reevaluate the transmission service and the brake replacement at another time so they weren't overloaded by the work . After a phone conversation with the manager who had given multiple reasons of why he was behind and wasn't sure if that was gonna be doable he did say that he would have him pull it in next to do the alignment so we can get it back that day which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication in their end when we dropped it off and their employee Rob, did not communicate to us that these services may likely take them days and days to complete. We were not told that it would take multiple days, which would have had us adjust our timeframe on leaving it for the work to be done. we were told possibly one overnight at the time we dropped it off and that was it. Then the manager calls a couple of hours later telling us that it was ready and they had done all of the work that we had originally authorized before we called and essentially revoked that and just asked for the alignment so we could get it back because we needed it , which was replacing the rear brakes, a transmission service, and the alignment . After all the mishap, we were grateful to have at least had it all done and had the car back and we appreciated that they were able to move things around to get it taken care of that day because we definitely needed it. We left satisfied that day, in a bind they made it work and we got the vehicle back as needed. Fast forward less than a week and I pull out of my garage and one of my brake clips is on the floor so that was concerning and upsetting as this is our primary vehicle that we drive our children around and as a business that preaches about how seriously they take safety concerns with their recommended services, etc. to have compromised the safety of my children and myself by either not installing the brakes correctly having a faulty part or whatever the case was, it was deeply concerning and upsetting as a parent. So immediately take the car back and talk to manager, who admitted that he didn't even know what the brake clip was that we brought with us which surprises me considering he's a manager at an automotive business. They did take it back to the bay immediately to lift it up and evaluate the issue and replace what was necessary, and we appreciated that effort greatly as well, but the trust had already been compromised throughout the entirety of the interactions for this service. My husband waited as they did the work and the manager did offer to comp us another service like a coolant flush or something, but unfortunately the damage to our trust feels irreparable. They did make a great effort to fix this negative interaction, but The indisputable fact that they gave me my car back compromising safety is a big reason why I will not be back and why I cannot in good conscience recommend this business . read more

Cant say enough great things about this place. I went in when I accidentally cross-threaded and snapped off a bolt while changing the thermostat on my daughter's Nissan versa note. I was kicking myself for doing this as I can do most "easy" jobs on our cars. This one bolt didnt go in as easy as I thought and I was stressed. I stopped in and explained the issue to the service advisor and they made me feel at ease and to have it towed in. They took a look later that day, called and gave me a quote and said they would get it fixed. Although it did give them fits (bolt had to be drilled out and re-threaded to add a stud), they fixed it! Such a huge relief and weight off my shoulders and it cost me less than what I thought it might. Kudos to the tech who fixed the issue and the great service people I dealt with throughout the process! Cant thank you guys enough! We had a problem with our SUV while driving north on the I-5 from San Francisco to Oregon. After calling a number of shops along the freeway, we went to Anderson Automotive. From the beginning, they were wonderful and accommodating. They diagnosed the problem, obtained the necessary part, replaced it, and got us back on the road in 2.5 hours. My alternator light came on while i was driving from LA further north, so I stopped by this shop to get it replaced on my drive up. I was quoted $944 to replace the alternator. I was told that this was for the alternator itself, and for two men working on my car for two hours. I sat outside (the waiting area is closed due to coronavirus) and watched my car sit in their workshop unattended with the hood up for 1.5 hours. (The guy at the front desk had explained to me that the engine needed to cool down before they could work on it so I wasn't upset about this). I used this time to do some quick research regarding how long it usually takes to replace an alternator in my car (internet said 2 hours for one mechanic and the shop I usually go to said 2 hours for one mechanic, and my dad, a former NASCAR driver, said 2 hours for one mechanic) The shop I usually go to specializes in German and European cars and is in Santa Monica (LA) where labour costs are usually higher significantly higher than most areas; they quoted me $675. The auto-zone down the street from this shop told me to expect to spend $500-$700 when they referred me. I saw a man working on my car for maybe 30 minutes total, and then another man sat in my car on his phone for a few minutes (without wearing a mask). The guy at the front desk took my car out on what I assume was a short test / check drive. He did not wear a mask while in my car. *I understand that masks are not required in this county but it seems like a common courtesy that should be observed. When I went to the front desk to pay (after witnessing 15 minutes of work on my vehicle) I was told that the total cost was $930. I asked for an explanation and his answer abruptly changed from two hours for two men, to three and a half hours for one man. When I asked why it was three and a half hours when my car had been worked on for less than one hour, the guy told me that "this was just industry standard". If that is the industry standard then why did he quote me for two mechanics for two hours in our previous conversation? And why did two other mechanics quote me a price that was over $200 cheaper? I asked him to put it in writing that he was charging me for 3.5 hours when my car had on my been worked on for less than one hour, at which point he threatened to remove the new alternator and put the old one back in, which would have left me stranded. I'm a 27 year old female who didn't raise her voice, swear, accuse him, or threaten him at all the entire conversation. I simply asked for a reasonable explanation for the charges to be put into writing on my receipt. In the same minute of conversation, he said that I was being aggressive and that he felt threatened. This grown man said that he felt threatened by a woman who was simply asking a question. He demanded to speak with the shop I usually go to and I explained to him that it was after 5 and that they were closed. He went on to say that he was actually charging me for 3.5 hours of labor because the mechanic who worked on my car was a "Volkswagen expert" who had "special tools and equipment" that allowed him to fix the car faster. I asked if his hourly rate was more expensive because this man was an expert, and I was told no, and fed the same line about 3.5 hours being the industry standard. *at the suggestion of the man who "helped" me, I went to another high end auto service shop in Santa Monica to get a quote. They quoted me $600 after looking in their system and said that it was absolutely not industry standard to charge 3.5 hours of labour, and that industry standard was to charge based on the labour that actually occurred, not the hypothetical average. His exact words "that shop tried to scam you, I'm glad you argued with them. It makes me sick that shops like that exist". Eventually this man told me he was just going to "discount me for two hours of labor since that's what it seemed like I wanted". Please note that I did not ONCE ask for a discount, I simply wanted it in writing that he was charging me for 3.5 hours of labour despite my car being worked on for less than 1 hour. And FYI; he didn't discount me for two hours of labor - he discounted me $200, when he explicitly told me labor was $125 per hour. TLDR; A staff member at this mechanic tried to charge me an extra $250-$300, gave three separate excuses for the overcharge when politely asked about it, accused me of threatening him while simultaneously threatening to remove the new alternator and strand me 400+ miles from home on a Friday, refused to provide an itemized receipt that explained the charges, and then gave me a "discount" that was $50 less than what he had just promised. Oh, and the cherry on top of this whole experience? The new alternator that the "Volkswagen expert" installed failed after I drove it 200 miles. The owner's response doesn't justify his actions or even provide a reasonable explanation for his behaviour. read more

Place is a complete rip off Took a truck in that wasn't working. They diagnosed it and I spent $1,200 supposedly fixing the problem. They said the truck worked great. Went to go pick it up and it barely ran. Took it back to them. They charged me another diagnosis fee of almost $150 And then set it needed spark plugs and a coil and would be almost $700 Took the truck back home. Went to the auto parts store and fix the truck for under $75 These are the types of people that should be ran out of business for their dishonesty Shame on you. Anderson automotive read more

Normally I would give this place 5 out of 5 stars. I have been coming here for the past couple of years or more and have always had great experiences. Went last week to get a smog test and it appears that the owner (Nick J) is the one who helped me check in. I also asked him if he would be able to make transmission recommendations for our other car that has 100,000 miles on it. He said no problem. A little while later, another man came out of the shop to take my payment. I tried to get Nick's attention, as he was engaged with another customer, but he would not acknowledge me, so I told the other employee that I needed the quote Nick had promised me, and would they please just e-mail it to me. My mom took her Car there to have the Air-conditioner Refilled.. how ever instead of doing what they where hired for they took the car to evaluate every thing wrong with it, car has a wobble that gets bad after 60mph instead they took it to 70mph!!! the car now pulls to the left, but they put that as part of wrong with the car, I already knew it needed bushings ball joints etc but that is not what they where hired for they where hired to check the air conditioner and charge it, instead my mom paid them the same price as checking and charging the air conditioner for them to joy ride it to see what else they can charge her for!! now they wanted to charge her $1200 for the air conditioner, I bought the parts $60 + 10year warranty guessing another $70 for the coolent, this is why sons that know how to work on cars don't let there mothers take there car to a Mechanics shop!! They lied about there not being any oil in my car, the level was exactly where it was the day before I took it to them. The tech who called me about the oil issue told me I didn't know how to check my oil, I had been checking and changing my oil myself for 40 years, not stupid. Did my own minor repairs but I cant anymore. Then claimed it had quite a few fault codes and wanted to grossly overcharge for a compression test. I have talked to a few people that have been taken advantage of and it needs to stop! I have no clue where you came up with info that my oil had not been changed for 23,000 miles, do you seriously think it would still be running? Brought my vehicle in for their wrench free 15 minute inspection which I thought was cool. After 15 minutes they gave me an approximate diagnosis. They informed me that they needed to do a deeper dive on a diagnosis and I needed to leave it for further inspection. They offered me a shuttle ride, I said great. I need to get back to work. I was there at 7:00 a.m. for my appointment and I didn't get picked up until 8:30. They had to call me an Uber because the shuttle ride was busy, however, a man walked in and waited 5 minutes for the shuttle and they drove him directly with the shuttle even though I was there first and they told me I was there first and they felt bad so they ordered me an Uber to where I had to wait another 15 minutes. A few hours later they call me with a diagnosis and they tell me what the pricing would be. I called a few other shops in town. Told them exactly what was going on and almost every other shop was cheaper by a landslide. I go to pick up my vehicle the next day and I was there for an hour asking them to give me my keys, I told them no thank you. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I simply just cannot afford your prices. They kept haggling with me. Refused to let me pay the diagnosis fee, wouldn't let me have my keys, kept getting on the computer and lowering the price as much as they could because unfortunately they try to charge you for every little thing that you don't necessarily need fixed right away. Away. You come in for one problem and all the sudden you have 30 problems that need to be attended to right away. I had to call my partner to come in. Who is a male by the way and I am a female and as soon as he walked in the haggling stopped and they gave me the keys and allowed me to leave. I do not appreciate someone withholding my keys and trying to change my mind after I've set my boundaries several times. I made it very clear that I was not going to paying that kind of money and I told them no on several occasions. They see m like a professional good shop but in the end they are only in their best interest. read more

Soooooo.l I just moved out here from Southern California & the first week that the weather had gotten pretty hot here (up to 110 with some humidity) my air conditioning broke. I even had my cell phone glitching with the heat in the car.....that bad luckily after looking up this awesome automotive shop on yelp. I was able to get a SUPER amazing deal, I asked my car mechanic from my hometown and even he said that was great pricing.
