A nice cafe in the mall but having and outdoor seating makes it a plus. They have a variety of pastries and baked goods. We an eclair and their jalapeño cheese bread they both tasted great. We also got a latte and cappuccino. My husband wanted a stronger cappuccino so he asked for a double shot espresso but some how they made the cup larger which is more milk that it tasted just like a latte and when I went back to let them know they took the cup and made the exact same mistake. So maybe there should be a standard to what defines a strong cappuccino from a regular latte. read more

I've visited this location several times over the past year, but today's experience was disappointing. I politely asked the cashier, Gilda, if an ingredient could be added to my sandwich, and she immediately rolled her eyes and responded in a dismissive, rude manner. She loudly called out the modification, mumbled that it was done, and then yelled, "Next!" I was genuinely surprised by the obvious lack of courtesy over such a simple request. This place is just a shell of what it used to be. Whoever was in charge of their remodel should be committed. It used to be such a warm, welcoming place, and now it's worse than a hospital cafeteria. Everything is cold, stark and falling apart. The quality of the food has also gone way downhill (see ham and cheese croissant photo). The coffee is served at scalding, with only an always almost empty of milk and a few scattered packets of Splenda to temper it. The staff is trying their best but they are clearly overworked and underpaid. I appreciate that the sample dish is usually filled. People will keep coming here because there aren't a ton of offerings at Hillsdale, but it is no longer the pleasant place it used to be. read more

Mango coconut pastry: I usually alternate between this and the strawberry tart. 3. Walnut cream cheese bread: My mom's favorite snack, a classic staple here. 4. I decided on a whim to stop by during Japan week or something to try the Hokkaido cream bun and a melon pan. The employee who was there didn't notice me for a bit because he was rearranging the melon pan buns using his bare hands. Yup. Same hands that touched the register etc. I ordered the cream bun and he used tongs, thank goodness. That bun itself was good. Would I go back? Prob not because the more I think about how unsanitary it was, the more I regret even getting the cream bun. Better training on how to maintain sanitary practices would be a good idea for employees here. read more

Nothing better than a visit from a friend bearing delectable treats. What a nice surprise!! I couldn't help taking a peak before everyone else. Then I not so subtlely suggested we cut each treasure into small portions for a tasting, of everything. It was afternoon and perfect time for a treat! Cousin's friend brought: strawberry and peach danishes and almond twist. My favorite was the sweet tartness of the peach. The fruit in all the danishes was delicious. (4/5). For me, the tastiest part of the special delivery was the curried puff. Deep fried, golden brown goodness filled with a savory, deep flavored curry. This alone will keep me coming back for more..! I live about a mile from Hillsdale Mall and rarely if ever visit this bakery. I have my bakery faves, and I make my own bread. But the other day as the hubs and I were doing errands, we noticed we were starving and there happened to be a sign outside the bakery that said, "Prime Rib Chimichurri Sandwich." Things never taste as good as their photos, right? Unless they're actually better! The meat was delicious, plentiful and lean, the flavors incredible and the ciabatta was perfect and fresh. Without asking it was cut in half with each half wrapped individually. I've had other adequate things from here, nothing special, so haven't returned in a long while. That changes now. I gave it five stars - for the sandwich! We'll go again and report back on other visits. read more

Woof. The interior is a bit rough. Shocked to find this was a chain, everything lacks polish. Not particularly clean in any way, tables were pretty dishevelled, floors weren't particularly clean, walls were oddly bare and decorated at the same time. Service was fine. Did take a bit for me then to take my order, but the lady in front did have like 10 special requests. We got the roja sandwich with tomato bisque. It was all just fine, nothing particularly amazing. This is a solid 3-4 star spot, I am choosing to go with 4 since they have always provided me friendly service and the pastries are delicious, plus it's a nice alternative to the mall food court. Tucked away in one of the halls of the Hillsdale Mall, this bakery always has intoxicating smells of fresh baked bread that will pull you in. I've lived nearby for a while, so I've dropped in more than just once. Whether to grab a pastry while window shopping, or to warm up with a hot soup or tea and catch up with friends, I have never had a really bad experience here. During the pandemic and workin from home, I found they are a nice lunch alternative with plenty of great sandwich options. The pork torta was an unexpected find, but it delivered. I was fearing a wimpy torta, but it was hearty and delicious, something you might find at your favorite taqueria. I could have saved half for 2nd lunch, but that's no fun. At around $9-$10 each, it's a solid value. Back in summer 2022 at least, seating was plentiful and they have some tables outside, but sectioned off from the passerby. Perfect for sunny weather or just to get away. Check them out next time you need a pick me up, to get through your shopping! read more

I was so excited to see them open again. Unfortunately the staff here are not following Covid rules. The mask needs to go over your nose to be the most effective. Also if you handle money wash your hands before you touch the pastries or other food for customer. With or without Covid 19, having good hygiene is important. There was a Latino woman on her break who was not eating who had her mask completely OFF just sitting there going over her papers INSIDE the store. I tried to take a picture of her to document it but when she saw me she said she was on her break and started moving her arms as to not take her photo. Employees and management should follow the health and safety rules. The food here is okay...took forever to get my sandwich even though I was the only one of two people to order a sandwich. 2 stars for Employees not wearing their masks or not wearing them properly and handlfood without cleaning their dirty hands. read more

I love chicken salad and I tend to get it at Lorenzo's, but when they don't have it I make myself go into the mall and order at Anderson's - their chicken salad sandwich is fantastic and the bread (whole grain) is delicious - it is a great combination - the mustard aioli is good if they add just a little - and I try to remember to tell them "just a little" - of course, I don't leave without some bread and any pastry calling my name - they are all pretty good, but even though the chicken salad is well salted, the breads seem to need some salt. The pastries (any and all) are pretty good, especially earlier in the day. It's easy to pass right by Andersen Bakery located in Hillsdale mall as there is nothing flashy or shouting at you to come in and peruse their menu or their glass case filled with fresh baked goods. This is exactly my story as I had been walking right by them for years never giving it a moment's thought to try one of their croissants or one of their danishes. They have a mall side entrance as well as an entrance facing a multi-story parking lot, literally across the street, and they're a few steps away from one of Nordstrom's outside entrances as well. My favorites pastries to date are their Almond Croissant and Strawberry Danish. Both are always fresh, light and chewy, without being heavy or oily. They also serve sandwiches, soups, and salads. The bread, sandwiches and pastries are always delicious and a steal for the price, but the staff makes it easy to keep coming back. Every team member is friendly, smiley, does their best to accommodate me and everyone around me, and some even remember my specific orders! I've recieved great recommendations on desserts and I always feel welcome. Even if I see a staff member off the clock somewhere else in the mall, they wave hello to me! The sandwiches can range from really good to just okay- all dependent on who's making them that day (customer service as well). On good days, their sandwiches are pretty tasty and made neatly with care. On off days, there's dry, untoasted bread and forgotten fillings. It's a bummer you never know what kind of sandwich you'll get until you unwrap it. I do like the tuna sandwich and turkey/bacon sandwich; and I find that pain de campagne (country French bread) is the best bread ever; so tasty. I always make it a point to come to Andersen's whenever I make a trip to the mall. They have a wide variety of pastries and breads for you to select from. In addition, they do have a separate menu for ordering sandwiches/soups. and lunch items. Overall, their customer service has been good. You may need to wait a bit during peak times, but that is normal. I do like purchasing their loaves of bread, specifically their apple raisin bread, and their english bread. I would recommend coming in the morning to early afternoons to get the best selection of pastries. As the day goes on, it gets to be slim pickings since most items are already sold out. Overall, I am happy to have them back open and baking up some amazing treats. read more

This one is the closest to me now so when I'm at the mall running errands, I always manage to pick up some baked goods here and a few pieces of See's candy for my glutinous self! The fruit tarts are delicious here and so is the cream cheese walnut bread. Their sliced breads are decent but not my favorite. Recently tried their ube bread and it was very bland. There was practically no ube flavor so I would skip this. I would definitely come back again for my tried and true items. read more

The health department should visit this place cause the woman who was cleaning the floors,(literally picking up dirt from the floor and had a dirty apron on) dropped her broom and pulled her already used gloves from her pocket, and wanted to help me. I come here because my wife loves the pesto bread. I haven't ever bought anything else from the bakery, but everything looks delicious. They have a good variety of choices from sweet to savory. It's nice that you can see all the different choices and watch them make some of the foods. Service here is usually pretty good. There are times when it is a bit slow. Since they make the only pesto bread my wife can eat, I have to wait whether it is busy or not. In a way it is nice that the service is a bit slow because it takes away that rushed fast food feel and makes it feel more calming. So if you're in a rush, it may not be the best waiting experience. The prices are a bit high for me, so maybe one day when I'm feeling lavish I may try something else. For now, I'm sticking with the leftover pieces of pesto bread from my wife. Came to get bread for my daughter and i. I 2 breads and had them toast and cut and to put in 2 bags since one is mine and the other was for my daughter. The gentlemen that was working obliged and went on his way to toast and cut. He comes back with all the bread in one bad. Mind you my bread is jalapeno cheese bread and my daughters was pesto. Now since the bread was warmed up all the jalapeno came out my bread and got all over my daughters bread and it was way too spicy for her to eat hers.
