Replaced my stabilizers, but didn't tighten up the control arms with all the parts. Anders

Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care

Cottman Transmission and Total Auto Care

I had a major transmission done about two years ago on my (very) old Ford F-150. I started noticing…read moretrouble again. I checked my warranty and discovered it was going to expire in less than a month. My transmission was totally replaced, and when I asked "How much?" (prepared to be given the run around), he answered, "NOTHING." Definitely a square shooter.

I called Cottman Transmission and Total Car Care at 8401 Wornall Road in Kansas City, Missouri and…read moretold Kevin my car was missing out and jerking and that is was jerking like it did before I took the SUV to have transmission rebuilt at Coffman Transmission at 23rd and Noland Road in Independence about 10000 miles earlier and might be the transmission band again. I told him they went out of business so I could no take the SUV back to them and he said it would not matter as each Cottman location was independently owned and work done at one was not covered by another one. Kevin stated that my problem could be anything related to engine or transmission and for $85 I could bring my car in and they would put it on a scope of some kind and tell me exactly what was wrong with my 2008 Ford Escape. Kevin stated that the $85 would be applied to any work that they completed after this scan. I took the car to him and dropped off the SUV. Kevin called the next day and stated the Escape had an electrical problem and that Cottman could not tell exactly what the problem was and that I would have to take the car to an electrician to find out the problem. Since nothing was fixed, I asked him if he could apply the $85 towards an oil and filter change and he stated Cottman did not do anything for free and the oil change was not related to why I brought the SUV in. I don't think the oil change would have been free work because he stated I could use the $85 towards any work done. Kevin called me back the same day and offered a very small discount on an oil change but I was not interested in doing anything else with Cottman. I paid Cottman a total of $88.74 including tax and Shop Fees (I assume that Shop Fees was for the pleasure of using his car bay). I feel Cottman Transmission failed me at both the Wornall location and the Independence location. Enough is enough. Please do not take your car to Cottman Transmission for repair work. I notice that Certified Transmission now offers a 5 year or 50,000 mile warranty on their work. I would try them instead of Cottman.

Exact Performance - The culprit

I would have rather they were honest with me and said they were overwhelmed with work at this time. Towed a car in there and towed it out. They changed the oil and the gas cap. I paid for it and towed my car to another shop that I know is thorough. I just had to wait a week to get an appointment, which fine because I can't drive it anyway. Exact Performance wanted to change out the timing belt, but I'm not sure that would have fixed it. The car was having issues that didn't quite align with timing chain problems. It was a waste of time. Spend your money elsewhere.

I was definitely taking a chance with Exact and here is my experience: First Impressions: My brother recommended Exact when I was shopping around for brake repair a couple years ago. The shop is located on Johnson Drive, next to a new car wash. We dropped my car off right around 8:30. The shop is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention. Dillon was very welcoming and he confirmed what services I needed. The shop was nice and clean and Dillon was very organized. Communication: I appreciated the phone call before any service was done to my car. They allowed us time to decide what we wanted to do before continuing and Dillon was very understanding. He wasn't pushy like the dealerships and I didn't feel pressured to make any decisions. The price is nice: I did not get tires, as they were more expensive than I thought, but for an oil change and front brakes, my bill was a little over $200. Their prices on timing belt replacement and other maintenance work was way cheaper than the Acura dealership, which is impressive. Overall: I will be back. The pricing alone was it for me. Acura quoted me well over a grand for maintenance work, new tires, and brakes on my car. Dillon's prices were half of that, which I can handle. They do specialize in imports, so keep that in mind. The only down side was their tire prices, which are about the same amount as the dealer. I also appreciated the customer service and how genuine Dillon was.

Prymo Automotive Service - No charge = no go

Battery: dead Schedule: busy…read moreAvailability to take car to dealer: no Mobile service needed: yes Prymo did a fairly primo job for me. My car, like many cars that are on the market today, has tons of bells and whistles, so adding a battery means doing a reset and reprogram. Guess what? I don't have the tools or the knowledge on how to do that. Could I change a battery many years ago? Absolutely! Could I change a battery now? No way... That's why I needed someone with the tools, the know-how, and the availability. I put in a request via Yelp to get a project started, and Prymo was the first to respond and had availability the next morning. They sent a tech to my house, he quickly diagnosed that the battery had no charge left, even though I had a jump the day before, and he commenced replacement. I didn't have to do anything other than do what I usually do, which is work from home. Fast-forward a half-hour and the job was done. I had a new battery, the tech had reprogrammed everything to its proper state, and he was on his way. Prymo accepts debit and credit, though a credit card purchase will come with a 3% charge, which is very fair since that's what the banks stick to the business. It wasn't cheap, but most of the cost was in the actual battery itself, which came with a five-year warranty. Great response, simple to navigate and schedule, and the tech was professional and skilled. Great experience and highly recommend if you're in the same situation.
