So what happens when you take advantage of cheap flights two weeks before leaving for Venice during…read morepeak season? You're pretty much left with super expensive rooms or hostels, and I'm too old to be living the hostel lifestyle. Everything I read said don't stay in Mestre because you're not in the heart of Venice and it doesn't feel like Venice since you're not water locked. After reading TripAdvisor reviews, I decided on Legrenzi Rooms and I ended up loving the hotel and Mestre! Location: -It's about a 3 minute walk to the Carducci bus station and about 5 minutes to walk to the Mestre Central tram station where it will take you about 20 minutes to get to Venice. -There is also a grocery store called Simply about a 3 minute walk away where you can pick up water before heading to Venice. -Right outside of the hotel, there are 3 casual bars/eateries if you don't feel like walking. -Piazza Ferretto is the main square and it's about a 5 minute walk away where you will find lots of cafes and restaurants. The square itself is charming, clean, and safe! Rooms: -There are only 9 rooms in this small, yet modern B&B. Unlike other European hotels, I didn't feel cramped and there was actually room to put your luggage and hang up your clothes. The bathroom was clean and the rain shower felt great after a long day of walking around Venice. -There is a mini fridge in the room, so I was able to buy some goodies at the store and keep it in the room. -Wifi is free and I didn't have problems with the speed. Since it's the summer, there isn't a comforter on the bed, but they do have one stowed away if you need it (you won't). The AC was also strong, which was a welcome relief after a day of walking around hot Venice. It was also quiet and our room looked out onto the cute courtyard. Service: -The employees here are nice and helpful! They speak English and will help you with anything you need. -Breakfast is included and the breakfast spread was plentiful with fresh juices, natural yogurts, fruit, pastries, eggs, cheese, cold cuts, cereal, bread, tea, and cappuccino. Bottom Line: -If you're looking to save money, but still want a nice B&B and don't mind not being in the heart of Venice then you should definitely book a room at Legrenzi!

Alessandro and Erico(sp) was SO helpful in trying to locate my lost luggage and even changed our train reservations for us to Florence since our baggage hadn't yet arrived. The room was clean and unique with the loft bedroom. It is small but totally worth the price we paid. I would definitely recommend it to someone that doesn't need a fancy hotel with room service and want to save some money on their Italian getaway.

The deal killer: it's march, and the weather is warming up. I couldn't get the A/C / thermostat to turn on, so I asked the front desk. Turns out that the heat has been turned off for the season, and A/C has yet to be turned on....so there is no thermostat control. The only way to control the temp is to open the window. My room was 25c with the window closed. However, the road below the hotel is quite noisy. There's also road construction that is not only loud, the equipment has ridiculous safety horns that buzz non stop. The construction, I learned the hard way, stops at 3 am. so. If you like being hot and listening to horns, loud motorcycles, people talking in the cafe below, and Non stop safety horns, then this is the spot for you. For the other 99.9% of the world, I suggest not saying here.

Could not log on Internet which i had no problems in other Italian old hotels! When i complained to front desk the next day, she has a small slip of paper with passcode. Really?? Why wasnt it given with room key the night before? Room was nice, bright and clean but the bathroom was weird! The shower head was placed in an awkward way that it flooded the bathroom! Beds were very comfortable but not enough storage space for suitcases!

It was quite a trek up three flights of stairs and twisting through a winding hotel but it was fun every time. We had a beautiful view of the Venitian rooftops. We had a sink in our room but the bathroom with the shower was in the hallway, which didn't bother us at all. There was a nice courtyard downstairs, which was pretty much the only spot you could use the free wifi. Plus, this hotel was in a great location and easy to find our way back to. I can't wait to come back to Venice. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We had booked the hotel for the 15th of February but our reservations were sent to the hotel for the night of the 14th. My friend phoned Expedia and the hotel a few times to straighten out this mix up but was disconnected. On the fourth try she was able to reach the hotel. On the phone they said that they could not change the reservation and we had to book it again, for the next night, at a much steeper price than we originally paid. Needless to say we were not very happy about that, as we are students studying abroad so we had a budget to stick to. The hotel then told my friend that we could use the 70€ from the previous nights booking towards the room for the 15th, the night we actually booked the room for. After having a hard time finding the street the hotel was on (our map said the street did not even exist!!?) we were beyond relieved to have finally found the place. Upon checking in, we were told at the front desk that we in fact, could not use the 70€ towards our room, but had to pay the full 120€ and we could use the 70€ towards dinner in the hotel. We did not want to eat dinner in the hotel. The 3 of us went to Venice with the intentions of exploring the streets, Carnivale and the local restaurants! Alas, we just say okay after trying a few times to correct the problem. Our room was not ready at 1300 so the man at the desk asked us to come back around 1500/1600. We left our bags and did just that. We left and talked about how cute the hotel was, and how it looks nice and has an old time feel to it. We soon relinquished those thoughts after entering the room. The one toilet on or floor was out of service and the shower looked moldy. Our room had one queen bed and one single bed in it. We found quite a few small dark pieces of hair in the queen, and a long dark hair in the twin bed, and on the blanket. The twin bed was heavily leaning. There was a break in the frame that looked as though it had been soldered together, but somehow it was still very slanted. In addition to the broken toilet, bed and hair, we found some change on the floor that led us to believe the room was not really, or thoroughly cleaned. My friend went to go talk to The manager and let him know we did not want to stay there for the night. The hotel insisted on asking us to leave the room for 5-10 minutes while they cleaned the space. We politely declined that offer as we felt it was not right for the room to be in this condition in the first place, and it needed more than just a 5-10 minute clean up. In the end, based on my experience, the hotel is at a 2.5 but I gave them a 3 because their were polite when we said we did not and were not going to stay for the night. They eventually gave us our 120€ back for the night and we left.
