This was one of my favorite hostels on my Italy trip. It was in a convenient location close to the boats, and everyone was very friendly. I especially enjoyed lounging downstairs in the evening and making friends. My only complaint was the small bathroom. Us girls were all trying to share in the morning to get ready and it was cramped. I never had any issues with people being loud in the dorms, easy to get a full night of rest. read more

This was a great hostel right on the water in Venice! Super accessible from the Vaperetto (public water taxi service). Didn't eat here but the bar and food all looked amazing. Full coffee lounge and free wifi throughout the hostel! Definitely recommend staying at one of these hostels. Super clean! read more

Cool stylish artistic place for young people. The rooms are cozy and clean. Bathrooms are not the hit. You don't have a deep rate shower for you personally. No shells to put your stuff on. Apart from that the hostel is located south of Venice with 1 minute walk from the closest boat station. Good and drinks at the hostel are cheap and good. Pizza is great. Happy Hour at the bar daily from 6-8:30pm. Stuff speaks English and understands it. Towels are available for rent €3. Late check out per person is €5! So you better check out normal time. Breakfast is served with great choices for cheap prices. Overall a place to look out for. Generator hostels throughout Europe are great. read more

Generator Venice - Lobby, Lounge area - Hostels Near Me - Venice, VE

I really was not expecting that much out of a hostel (come on, it's a hostel) but was VERY pleasantly surprised when I arrived! The interior definitely gives off a hip, young-backpacker vibe with the dim lights and pops of color here and there. The bar is actually a real bar, not like ones at other hostels I've been to where it's just a couple bottles behind a tiny counter, and they host events I believe every night. During my one night at Generator, they put on Latin Night where they cleared some space in the dining area for a dance floor and people were actually salsa-ing away! Staff is also friendly and very helpful. Taking off one star because the location isn't great. You have to take a water taxi from central Venice, which is expensive and takes a while. But other that, Generator is a great place to stay, and I'll be sure to check out their other locations when traveling! read more

In my experience there are two kinds of hostels: the shoddy, outdated kind, and (like Generator Venice) the modern, clean, and yet surprisingly affordable kind. Despite Venice's constant flow of tourists you won't find anything else quite like it in the City of Canals, so give this place some serious consideration unless you're okay with paying upwards of 100€ for shoddy and outdated. The facilities, beds, and even the location probably merit 4.5 stars, but I did run into some problems booking online (the website showed availability for my entire stay but would only let me book for part of it), and more than once the staff forgot about me after asking for something at the front desk/bar. Generator also comes off as a place that tries way too hard to be "cool" (relentlessly loud music, a DJ on weekends, and MTV playing on the many TVs in the common room) which is totally fine until you want to get some sleep and you can hear EDM from downstairs through the walls of your dorm room. As far as the location goes, I thought it was great even though the island it's on (Giudecca) is a bit removed from the rest of the city. It's a quick two stops on the vaporetto from St. Mark's Square, and pretty easy to get back to since you don't have to navigate a maze of alleyways to an obscure address, as is the case in most of the city. With a limited budget--and a limited selection of hostels--this is probably one of your best bets in Venice. read more

My bed was clean and private (had a curtain in the dorm style room). Free wifi, and I got to check out a blow dryer for free. Only downside was that this hostel did not have free breakfast. Bummer, but still nice. Met some fun people, and had a great time overall. Awesome view! Only weird thing was that an elderly German guest was naked and bathing herself in the bathroom sink with a washcloth one morning... That's not the hostels fault though. read more

Great service when checking in, with recommendations on places to see and eat. The rooms have an industrial feel to them, and everything is clean! However, they charge for everything such as towels and laundry and don't allow outside food or drinks. read more

We've had bed bugs in our beds. They refused to change the beds because the 'administration' wouldn't allow them to. They pretended they didn't know English. A couple of people in our group got nasty bed bug bites. read more

Located away from the hub of Venice, Generator Venice is located on the island of Giudecca. A 25-30 minute water bus ride from Piazzale Roma (bus stop coming from Venice Marco Polo Airport) and two stops (maaaybe five minutes) to get to Venice. This place is perfect to get a retreat from the chaos of the main island. There's a delicious local pizza shop that is a two-second walk from the hostel! Generator has a very cool industrial look--it didn't even feel like a hostel. The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming. I stayed in a 12-person all girls' room. Each bed had it's own light, outlet, and a sizeable drawer under the bed for you to lock your belongings up (bring your own lock). There is a shower/toilet in the room, but there are also other toilets and showers out in the halls if it is occupied. Breakfast is not included, but you have the option of purchasing breakfast at a reasonable price. 3.50 euro for coffee, juice, and a croissant or 4.50 euro for the breakfast buffet which includes cereal, coffee, bread, ham and cheese, and "fruit salad." I say that in quotes because it was actually just the sad, canned fruit salad. Despite that, I really enjoyed my stay at Generator and would definitely recommend! read more

We had a really really bad night at the Generator Venice! First please excuse my bad english but I wanted to write that review in english so that most of the people are able to read it. Our stay started really nice the atmosphere was good and we (a school class) had a good room - as we thought! Then the second night, and I know it sounds like a bad movie, a guy came in around five o'clock and stole a lot of our money. Two of us saw him and they also saw that he went to the other rooms on our platform and stole money. So the doors didn't really work otherwise he wouldn't get in. After of course we told the reception man and he promised to hold him back in the lobby. Then nothing happened for a while and then we heard that the reception man let the robber leave. We felt quite helpless and I am sorry to write that bad about the hostel because three hours later they were very nice with us but when the robbing happened nobody helped us they just started helping us when the police arrived. So our stay could have been better!! We wished that we got some help or informations. Luckily now he is caught but I wouldn't recommend this hostel at all. read more

Fine for a short stay. Away from the main island but the ferry stops right outside. On Tuesday night they blasted loud music in the main area until 1am that we could hear loudly in our bedroom which was pretty annoying Other than that it's clean and safe, there's free wifi, and the workers were helpful enough so there is really nothing else you can ask for in a hostel! read more

Charge for everything. Unlike other hostels they do not have a pantry where you can make food but instead they have a restaurant where they charge really expensive for food, hence the easily cheap hotel room rates. Come on it is Venice, everything is expensive. If you want to open a hostel for backpackers and youths, know that they can't afford your expensive stuffs for everything you charge. And the WiFi is really BAD. I am not going to complain about the small space since it is a hostel, I don't expect much to be fair. I will give you one star not zero because your lobby looks beautiful. read more

Really cool hostel :). The rooms were clean and the beds were rather comfortable. The people working at the hostel were super nice, helpful and the service was great. You can get a ton of stuff at the reception. For example free printing at the reception! Plus one can check out padlocks, hair dryer and stuff like that. And they have washing machines. Everything is kinda "high-tech", toilets and lights work with motion sensors - except in the bedroom of course ;). What i really enjoyed is the common room, really fun vintage hipsterish interior decor, and a truly comfortable setting. Kinda of like a bar and café in one. at the Bar one can get an array of drinks, food and snacks for reasonable prices. With the boat bus one ( Vaparetto) is in the center of Venice in 10 - 15 minutes. The Hostel is open for 24 hours. OVERALL really cool chill hostel with great service and sweet staff :). read more

Sooo, for a school trip (which lasted 5 days, from Monday till Friday) we stayed at The Generator in Venice. It's not on the main island itself, so take that into account before booking it. When we arrived, the entrance smelled like cigarettes since everyone goes outside to smoke but they smoke literally next to the entrance, as for a non-smoker this wasn't the best first impression. But the man at the reception was really friendly so that was nice because everyone I met was quite rude. When the rest of our school arrived, the room keys were given to us. This was a chaos as well because every student stood around the reception just waiting for it to hurry up, but it didn't. There was aso a problem with the rooms and the wrist bands you get for the free breakfast they offer. The breakfast is really minimal, sandwiches, ham, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, coffee, tea, water and milk. You would think that that's quite okay, but i felt like if you wanted to eat something good in the morning, you had to pay for a bagel (which wasn't that good as well). But maybe I'm just picky... The rest of the staff was very unfriendly, it was like the shorter and compacter they could say it, they would. There are three levels, each had about six or seven rooms. There's an elevator but it only goes the the second floor, which I didn't really mind. I slept on the third floor, our rooms was for sixteen people but the room between the bed was almost claustrophobic. The lockers weren't very handy and we didn't have a bathroom, sink or toilet in our room. There were two windows you could open, nut there was a bed next to them, so you had to watch where you were walking or you would bump your head (trust me, it's annoying and painful). You had to go to the other side of the hallway to go to the toilet or shower. There was a girls bathroom and a boys bathroom. The girls bathroom consisted of two small showers where you could only stand, which didn't shut properly, because of this the floor got all wet and it was unpractical if you were there with three people. It was also the first thing you saw when you came in. The toilets were very big, this was totally unnecessary because this meant you could actually make the showers bigger. You also couldn't lock the girls bathroom, so everyone could just come in, which felt very uneasy if you wanted to shower. The boys bathroom only had a shower and a sink with a mirror that looked more like aluminium than an actual mirror. In both the bathrooms there was no ventilation, so if five people took a shower before you, all the air was gone and breathing was kind of difficult. But the thing I was most disgusted by was the lack of hygiene, the best example: bed bugs. I saw in previous reviews that there have been bed bugs since April. I didn't see this until tonight to rant about the hostel and its gross rooms. I have about a hundred bites from my big toe to my forehead. Normally I would've stayed the four nights, but after two nights I just couldn't take it anymore. Our teachers didn't sleep in the same hostel but in a hotel somewhere else (I don't know where exactly, they didn't tell us), and every now and then they came to the hostel to see how we were doing, so that was great. I was so happy that I could leave, unfortunately I couldn't go home because my plane ticket didn't allow it and flights were too expensive to fly back a day or two earlier. Now for the island, there are about five restaurants: two from a really chique and probably expensive (it has a fancy pool) hotel, a bar that serves food but it's all microwaved, an asian restaurant that sells typically tourist food like pizza and pasta for a reasonable (i'm a student) price, another place that sells typically tourist food (friends of mine ate there and it's not worth the money) and a yet another place which sells typically tourist food (only there you pay double the price of the okay asian place). It' a fifteen minute ride to go from The Generator the the main island. For the price you pay per night per bed, it's not worth it, at least that's what I think. You have cheaper options where you the room offers you more like an airbnb. That's what our school did. There weren't enough free bed in The Generator so our teacher decided that a few people had to stay elsewhere. I wish I could zero stars because of the bad experience. read more
