Yellow cab has been great for airport dropoffs--even during blizzard conditions. They have been punctual and friendly. Last June, Madrid helped us load and unload five large bags without any hesitation. I am surprised that there are so many poor reviews. I scheduled a minivan pickup a day in advance. I needed to use yellow cab to get around town on my stay in Anchorage, as I was working on shipping a vehicle. The first two drivers I had were friendly, but carried on phone conversations the entire time. Overall, they were pretty safe. The last driver was terrible. He was on speaker phone the entire time and crossed multiple lane lines. Then swore in another language when I didn't tip him. I will use Uber from now on. All I can say is don't use yellow cab for anything... I called a few days prior to schedule a pick up for early in the morning to head to the airport. 15 minutes later they never show up... I call them and they never sent anyone to pick me up. Monday morning I got ripped by a driver. It was my first experience with a taxi in a loooooong time, so I was a rookie I took one to the airport today AFTER verifying the approximate cost. He had a monitor on his dash showing the cost as it accrued and an "iPad " type monitor hanging on the passenger seat that showed his number and his car's number. The ripper had neither. He knew when he picked us up that he was planning a ripped. Fast forward, I called to complain and ended up with a voicemail complaints department. They didn't, as promised, call back yesterday, or after a 2nd call, didn't call back today. The hotel has the cab on video, but yellow cab isn't interested. Absolutely worst cab service I have ever had in Anchorage and I have been since 1979. I was downtown and called the dispatch to get a cab. I waited 2 1/2 hours until somebody offered me a ride home dispatch kept telling me that I had to stand at the curb flag the cab down and I repeatedly Told the dispatcher that I was was not a possibility for I told him I was looking out the window to just have the cab stop out front and I will come right. So I got a cab to the Alaska Railroad Depot early in the morning.... I'm an introvert, but I like to talk and learn. But no talk for me! I asked the cab driver where he was from, and he said "Anchorage" in a heavy Russian accent. So I asked him how he liked living here, and he said, "No answer for you." I found the Seinfeld soup nazi. It's me, so I asked why that might be - no answer for me. I expected a real answer or a fist fight, but he said "Not allowed to talk." The last time I checked, this is still the United States where it's okay to talk, but maybe he is part of a witness protection program and needs to protect his identity. Gayle and I used Yellow Cab twice during our short visit to Anchorage. The first time was from the Airport to the Embassy Suites Hotel and the 2nd was 2 days later in the morning when we needed to get to the Train Station. Contrary to the multiple negative reviews on this Page, our experiences were actually quite good. Any company is as good as their last customer experience, and I've certainly had my share of bad cab and Uber experiences. But not this time. The Airport pick-up was at the recommendation of the Hotel, which having dropped their shuttle, reimbursed the driver via a voucher. We added a cash tip. The car was comfortable and the guy driving the car was courteous and was great help with the bags. And we felt safe. The Train morning pick-up was at 5:30 and he was early. The guy took us strait there and part of the route we remembered from our walk downtown the previous day. Again, we were shown good courtesy, safety and help with our bags. After this, what more did we need, especially being new to town? read more

This is probably the worst experience I've had in my life and I'm 64 years old. Called for a ride and we were told it would cost $65 each way. We got a ride to our destination and they told us just to call when we wanted to be picked up. When we called to get back to our resort they informed us it would cost $150 for the ride back. STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY I scheduled my taxi goes in advance to show up at 740 and my can driver showed up 30 minutes late. I then proceeded to call fleet management which gave me attitude and told me that I should expect it to run late. I then asked to be transferred to the supervisor who gave me lip was extremely unprofessional and wouldn't refund my fare or give me credit for the extremely unprofessional job there taxi provided. Don't bother calling. They either won't answer or will waste your time. We rode with them once from the train station to a friend's house, and it was okay, but the driving was a little too intense. We tried to use them again though, and it was terrible. My husband called just after 12 PM, requested a cab. We waited for 45+ minutes. I called back, giving them requested details, and then the dispatcher left the call. I could hear her talking to other coworkers, laughing in the background. I waited a few minutes, repeating "hello?" and then I finally hung up. I called back three times, no answer. We ended up going with Uber & they picked us up under 5 mins. read more

I accidentally left my cell phone in one of the cabs. I called dispatch and talked to a female dispatcher who had the worst attitude! "I wish you people would pay attention to the cab numbers when you lose things!" was her response. Then, after calling six cabs, told me she wasn't going to call another six. I waited a few minutes to calm down and called them back. I got a different dispatcher who actually asked for the details of my phone. Within a couple minutes, the cab driver pulled up and handed my phone. I feel sorry for the people who have to deal with this female dispatcher. I seemed to have had a much different experience than many other reviewers. We came to town for a medical procedure and used this taxi company frequently. All the cab drivers we have had so far have been amazingly accommodating with the wheelchair we've been transporting with us and the fare is much better than in Fairbanks. read more

The cab driver we had charged us $12 over our usual fare to the airport. I don't know how he did it. It was above what the mileage from our house to the airport was. We have taken a cabs prior to this, and were never charged the high rate he charged us. He arrived late, told us he had been driving cab here for 20 years, and had picked up numerous people in our area. But he was lost trying to find our house and then had to ask our directions to the airport. We gave him directions and we didn't take any deviations. He didn't know where he was going and had no GPS. We did not get a receipt and were rushed at the airport, so just paid the fare. I did call the cab company and they said they would research it and call me back, but they never did. We got the total on our Visa and tried to fight it, but to no avail. We noticed the mileage was 4 miles more than what it should have been from our house. How this driver added that mileage, we do not know. Beware of this company!! Make sure when you get your cab, that the fare charge begins right when you leave and the fare is what is published by the company. We most likely will not use this company again - very disappointed with the business practice and the cab driver. read more

I called yellow cab for a woman outside my house who didn't have a phone on her and clearly needed help and/or a ride. She was very polite and I was happy to call for her. The dispatcher would not send a cab because she didn't have a phone and said I would be liable for all charges if she wasn't there. This can't be true seems hotels and restaurants call cabs regularly, this seems like an occupational hazard of driving a cab and not for Uber or Lyft. On 3/23/12, yellow cab driver #145 picks us up downtown around 2am. We tell him our address on the east side of Anchorage, he heads west and proceeds to drive the long way to our house. I told him to drop us off at the Chevron on Fireweed Lane, threw him 20 bucks and told him he was a thief for thinking he would get away with stuff like that. Yellow Cab, especially #54 - drove off with the back door still open on a disabled military veteran. Upon calling dispatch, they hung up on the person that complained. I have had multiple of their drivers nearly rear-end me from driving too fast past me as I get into the next lane over. The cabs usually arrive to my house to pick me up fairly quickly and take me to the airport at a decent pace. I much rather take yellow cab over checker because of the ease using my credit card. Depending on the driver and cab it could be a decent trek across town or an episode from backwoods rally race or something... I didn't get the bad cab number unfortunately but the last one we had going back to pick up our car from the shop, was 181. He was safe efficient and had a very clean cab and he was extremely polite. The one before that, yesterday was decent and had a nice disposition but his cab was kinda grubby. The one before that was in race car mode and scared the bejeesus out of us. All kinda depends.
