Depending on the driver and cab it could be a decent trek across town or an episode from backwoods rally race or something... I didn't get the bad cab number unfortunately but the last one we had going back to pick up our car from the shop, was 181. He was safe efficient and had a very clean cab and he was extremely polite. The one before that, yesterday was decent and had a nice disposition but his cab was kinda grubby. The one before that was in race car mode and scared the bejeesus out of us. All kinda depends. I can absolutely say that they're FAST. Reasonably priced. Efficient. I will use again. read more

I waited for my cab who arrived and picked up another woman, never even asked her name. The next cab driver hadnt showered in weeks. It stunk so bad but I was running late because the frst driver to do his job. Then the next day the driver also stunk but required a mask. Instead of requiring masks they need to be required to hygeine. Disgusting. Better to use Uber/Lyft. read more

I would give a negative 3 if I could! My boyfriend arranged for a cab the night prior to pick him up for an airport fare. Ya, Airport ...kinda important to be on time or at least show up! Well no one showed! He couldn't get anyone to answer the phone that morning. He had to park at airport for $16 a day but had no other option. I guess Urber is the way to go. Yellow cab you're losers!! read more

Waited for over an hour after being told one hour. Called to ask estimated time of arrival and was hung up on. Terrible srvice.

Yellow Cab is probably the most least unprofessional service I have ever seen. I definitely dont recommend them to anyone. Every experience I had was very poor and unsatisfactory. Every once in a while, I some how use their service and it's always bad. Its either the driver is driving really bad where it feels unsafe or the driver says something that is that is really uncomfortable out of context(like 4 out of 5 times) that they shouldn't really mention to people. I feel giving them "One" star is too generous. read more

do not trust yellow cab or their dispatch!! if you leave something in their cab and call as soon as they drop you off, dispatch lies to you, they are rude and act like they do not have time for their customers!! they tell you the cab driver is off duty and they cant get ahold of them, even when they just dropped you off!! then you call back the next day and another dispatch tells you the opposite and asks why the dispatch from the night before did not get ahold of the cab driver. cab #205 avoid and avoid yellow cab completely!! they do not care about their customers and have the worse dispatch and customer service!! 222-2222 needs to be gone from anchorage for good!! and we wonder why lyft and uber are around, they actually care about what they are doing and respect their customers!! yellow cab does not deserve a rating period!! 00000 is my rating!! read more

Just arrived in Anchorage on cruise and picked up our bags at the Egan Convention Center. Called Yellow cab driver 3170 to take us to our hotel. He was angry and rude since hotel wasn't far enough to make his day with this fare. We planned to stay over in Anchorage a few days and expected the people here to be friendly. Instead my first contact was a bad experience. If you are thinking of stopping in Anchorage coming to or from a cruise, save your time and money and skip this nasty town. Very rude treatment. read more

Was debating whether to use uber or a cab to the airport. It's company paid-travel, so I chose the cab. Not again. I must have been sitting in spilled coffee, because my coat and pants were wet and smelled like coffee afterwards. Disgusting! Also outrageous was the credit card machine: It was preset to a tip of 40%, 30% or 20% or Other. Are you crazy to even ask for a 40% tip? That never happens at uber, where driver know their cars and don't let that happen to customers. read more

A couple weeks ago after a long overnight flight, I got a ride from the Anchorage airport with Yellow Cab. The driver was friendly and helpful with my bags. Then I did what could have been a nightmare---I left my wallet in his cab. Within about 5 minutes, before I even knew I had left it in the cab, he was at my door, returning my wallet. This driver provided the kind of customer service and kindness that defines good customer service and too often is absent today. I did not note the cab # but very much appreciate this immigrant from W. Africa. read more

When I worked here on Elmendorf at the gas station, people would sometimes lock themselves out of their cars. We weren't allowed to help them with it, so we had to have them call the Yellow Cab company (two two two, two-ty two two-ty two) to come pick it for them. For a $20 fee. Now, one thing I learned pretty quickly in dealing with this company, is that their computer systems seem to delete their pick ups. My husband and I requested a cab to pick us up for the Beer and Barleywine festival last winter, and no one ever showed up. I called three times. 1) "They're on their way." 2) "They're not there yet? I'll call them. ..They're on their way." 3) "It says here you were a no-show." Umm, no? I was staring out my window the whole time and no one honked or anything. So, when the first customer of mine had to call them (she was an elderly lady), I ended up calling the company seven times to check up on things. It took them half an hour to get on base, and the operator told me to have her stand outside because the cab would only wait for 60 seconds before leaving. What? On the other hand, we called them to pick us up to take us to the air port at 8pm, just a few weeks ago, and the operator was like "You know they have to go through the Boniface gate, so it's going to cost more because they have to drive farther" (we live near the Govt. Hill gate) I told her "That gate doesn't close until 10pm and you know it." She goes "Oh yeah...." In other words, if you have to use this company, be persistent, and don't take shit. read more

Twice in the last three weeks or so, I called Yellow Cab to pick me up at Carrs on Gambell. On both occasions, I was left hanging. The first time, I called back after 30 minutes and the dispatcher sent out a second car which took another 10 minutes to arrive. The dispatcher was a real treat: he sounded annoyed, he made it seem like I had done something wrong and that I was inconveniencing him a great deal, he offered no apology whatsoever, and he even hung up on me when I tried to tell him that I had been waiting for 30 minutes. Stellar service. At least the driver was a very nice guy. The second time that I called, the same dispatcher answered, and after waiting for about 30 minutes, a Yellow Cab minivan turned up, but he had a fare. The driver asked me if I was waiting for a cab, and when I told him that I was, he said that he'd ask the dispatcher to send out another taxi. This driver was also a very nice guy and he waited while his passenger went into the store to find some elderly relatives and bring them home. In the meantime, he took my cellphone number and said that he'd call me back to see if the second Yellow Cab arrived to pick me up. He said that his then-fare's ultimate destination was only a minute away and that he'd be happy to drive me if the next cab didn't show. I waited another 15 minutes, and then on the advice of the store security guard, I called Checker. He told me that for the most part, Yellow Cab drivers simply won't bother picking up fares, even for dispatched calls, at that Carrs location. The Checker guy turned up almost instantly (two cars turned up and they fought over the fare, actually) and I never saw a dispatched Yellow Cab turn up for me in the 45 minutes that I waited there. I also never heard back from that nice driver, but that's not his fault; his offer to call me was a kind gesture, but one that he didn't have to extend at all. He was just trying to help out as his fellow drivers and the dispatcher don't seem to give a tinker's damn about picking up customers like me at that Carrs location. Here's a friendly bit of advice for the folks at Yellow Cab: if fare-paying customers that you pick up at that Carrs location are a problem, then just tell me that you can't pick me up at that location, tell me that you're too busy...I don't care what excuse you give (there may be some kind of legal reason why you won't flat out tell me that you don't pick up folks there), but don't lead me to believe that you will turn up when I call and then never do so. Lesson learned. I'll never call Yellow Cab again for any of my business, regardless of where I need to be picked up. It's too bad, really, as the drivers seem to be decent folks for the most part. read more

Rude. Unprofessional. Dishonest. Dispatch female was crass rude and horrible. Please I wish we had Uber up here. Just horrible they keep a monopoly over this city with utterly horrible business practices and behavior. Its a shame. I hear they scammed their drivers out of their tips too if you use a credit card. Heard this from two of their drivers. Nice operation. Scummy at best. read more

Here is what I sent to the Yellow Cab dispatch: I am writing to let you know that we had a cab driver yell at us this morning when we stepped into his cab at the Sheraton for pick up. We were going to the train station and asked that he take Eagle St. He was resistant and said that his way is the same distance and why do we care...and that we should get out. We did get out and found another cab. We ask for Eagle St., because we had a cabbie take us the long way through traffic lights when we first arrived and the fare was twice as much. We had an honest cabbie tell us that Eagle was the fastest way. We have also encountered resistance from other cabbies to take the route. Please look into some etiquette training for your staff. These experiences are souring our opinion of Anchorage. If I could take Uber, I would. read more

Better than driving drunk, but barely. I cab frequently and can say that it is a rare occurrence to get even a decent cab driver. Most are rude, unprofessional, and entitled. You have to give them step by step directions to even common places in anchorage. In no other state do cab drivers expect you to feed them directions, do they not have Gps? You spend the ride listening to these guys whine and complain about their nights to you and complain about other drivers on the road. You sit there quietly hoping they don't snap. They whine and complain if you pay with card instead of cash. One driver even argued and made us to go to the ATM to get him cash because the card was "inconvenient" for him. One guy came to pick us up in eagle river and complained the whole way that he had to be out in eagle river losing money on us and wasting his time. Unbelievably unprofessional and rude. Not the customers problem. They drive like bats out of hell. I am always very surprised to end up at the destination alive. One guy went flying down a backroad at night and I had to yell that he was flying straight toward a sharp turn. It was terrifying. Completely reckless. One time, after spelling out my house address 4 times and giving cross streets (in midtown anchorage), the cab driver insisted he didn't see that street anywhere on his "map." I've been picked up from that house dozens of times before with no issues. Totally fed up with this incompetent, unprofessional company, definitely not using them anymore. read more

See my review about Checker cab. I've fared better with Yellow Cab, but not much.

Very unreliable. Make a lot of excuses about why they are unable to pick you up in a reasonable time frame. I edited 30 minutes and then drove myself. read more

Drivers are fine. Organization as a whole is extremely unreliable. Cabs are frequently late, payment options are limited. Spoken as experience as an Anchorage visitor and resident. read more

I have used Yellow cab for many years now and never really had an issue. Called for a cab this morning and the dispatcher couldn't even find my house on google maps. A kindergartener can do a google search of my address and find my location(maybe even my cat). Very disappointed in their service this morning and will never use them again. read more

Several taxis driving around, don't know who is here for you, if any. Once I was picked up from downtown, after the ride had started, I learned the machine was broken, so I had to pay in cash. I explained that I had cards only. He took me to the gas station, with no cash to pay, I had to get cash for a $6 fee. Then no receipt Available, so I can't charge it back to work. Then he asked me if I smoked weed, because I'm from a legal state. read more

Cab showed an hour late and dispatcher tried to BS me the whole time saying they were around the corner.

Cab #122 had the meter going while I got inside the vehicle then he had taken the longest route. Had the meter going at my destination. I know people who work for both checker/yellow cab. They aren't supposed to let the meter run. It takes me 12$ to get to my destination unfortunately he was even driving 25 in a 45. I hate yellow cab. I should've stuck with Uber .. read more

Drivers are friendly. Dispatchers are just far too busy at work to be inconvenienced by things like dispatching the drivers or checking to see if a cab has been dispatched at all. If you need to be late, not show up at all, or just want to hear someone tell you a cab will be there shortly, I highly reccommend Yellow Cab here in Anchorage. read more

I am sharing this. Yellow Cab needs to be held accountable! I've never posted on here before but I AM FUMING YOU GUYS. I had just parked at A st. Walmart and noticed an amputee Veteran. He was elderly, probably mid 70's. He was missing a leg, had a veterans hat on and his prosthetic had American flags all over it. He was in his automatic wheelchair with a cart full of groceries parked next to a wheelchair accessible Yellow Cab. They Yellow Cab driver was out opening the door, and saw all the groceries, threw his hands up and literally turned, walked back to the drivers side, got BACK INTO HIS VEHICLE AND DROVE AWAY WITH THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR OPEN. Mind you, it is pourrrrrrring down rain right now. I immediately got out of my vehicle with my umbrella and ran over to him and asked if that guy just drove off on him and if he needed help. He said yes, that his name is Mike and they just drove off without him. I waited with him while he called Yellow Cab to complain about CAB #54. They HUNG UP ON HIM. We waited together until I could flag down a Checker Cab and they agreed to take him home. I really cannot believe this. I got out of my car SHAKING with anger. I CANNOT BELIEVE someone would treat an elderly, DISABLED VETERAN this way. I will NEVER take another Yellow Cab as long as I live. Absolutely disgusting customer service. I hope you got home safely, Mike. Thank you for your service, and I'm so sorry for how you were treated today. read more

When we landed at the airport I went to grab a cab to drive my sick husband and I to the hospital. When I asked one of the cab drivers to drive us they asked "do you have money?" I called this company to complain and they didn't care, if I could give them less than 1 star I would. read more

It depends on luck of the draw, I have had better luck with Yellow than with the competitor to the point I stopped calling the other at all. Now some drivers like the Irishman James at night who has been here forever are Great, honest, friendly professional, and more than that, the good ones, Like James M. will help a stranger in need, sadly the bad ones make you want to shout, I had my last straw coming form the airport, I was called to emergency replace a guy on a crab boat this winter, I wanted it off to spend with family for the 1st time in over 12 years....but a good friend called and really need an experienced hand. so I told the driver I needed to goto the Mid Town WM, i was in need of a Commercial DH License and this was only place open now, I flew the rest of the way early in the morning, too early to get one then. So we get to the wm, I see the fare, and its 15, i give a 20 and get back 2. I say where is the rest? driver says thats it, it was 17, I say this is 2 17 from 20 is 3 not 2 and it was 15 when you turned it off. He wanted to hit me I got out but dumped my soda in the back seat as i did and when he jumped out I said theres that other 3 if you want to fight about it, im still calling your dispatch win loose or draw your choice. He left, I was in a hurry, got what I needed and got a stand by waiting in the lot to return me, since this I will not call any cab in town, i rent a car instead, cost less for me and I dont have to worry about clowns ripping me off for a dollar or two. And I would have given it too them as a tip had they been honest. you know, screw them I work too hard for their games. We all do read more

I had a terrible experience with Anchorage Yellow Cab this morning at 4 am, downtown on a dark street alone, late for my trip to the airport. I tried to flag down one cab that was circling the block near my hotel Then, as the hotel where I was staying had failed to call me a cab, I tried to call dispatch. The cab that I had tried to flag down came around the corner (1 minute later) to pick me up and was very polite. As we were driving down the street 5 minutes later, the cab that had been called by dispatch showed up. The second driver began screaming and yelling in the street demanding that I switch cabs (in the street, at 4 am, when I was running late for the airport). I refused to switch cabs and stayed with my polite and prompt first driver. I called dispatch as well as customer service to complain about my experience with little to no response. My kind cab drive was docked two hours of pay for his efforts. AK Yellow Cab does not value a positive customer service experiences. Beware of AK Yellow Cab!! read more

Yellow cab dispatch lady was 2 words away from me going to the dispatch office and shoving that phone up her a**. called the first time to have a cab show up to take my little brother to a school event. After 30 minutes we called back to find out that there was no information of ours in the computer. Okay? I told her that we DEFINITELY called and she asked if I was calling her a liar. I'm sorry but where in that sentence did I say anything about lying? I'm not sure why she took it to a personal level but I asked to speak with someone else before she hung up. HUNG UP. Talk about being butthurt on the job... My brother and I both kept calling on our phones and every time she answered she hung up until she finally spoke and told me to apologize. APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT? Wanting to talk to somebody with some sense? If i could do it over again, she'd really want me to apologize. That's when I hung up and drove him myself (which I was really trying to avoid with no studs). My only problem here was with the dispatcher not a driver. read more

The driver I got today drove past my house and tried to drive down a walking path. He ran stop signs and was speeding through my residential area. He took a severely potholed road he didn't need to take and pulled in front of an oncoming car. I called the dispatcher and told her. She said she "will say something to him." When I called for a return trip, the cab never showed up. I called back and a different dispatcher said that the cab had already been there. Bullshyt. They finally sent another cab. He was very polite and a good driver. Regardless, I will no longer be a customer. I believe they let me sit waiting because I complained. read more

Called dispatch, was told cab be at spot in 10 minutes...waited an HOUR. Will call Checker next time.

This company has to have the rudest and most disrespectful drivers ever. I was at the gas station on the corner of Spenard and Wisconsin this Sunday and one of there drivers #16, parked in a handicap spot. I informed him he was in a handicap spot and he just ignored me and rolled his window up. What a jerk, I will never use this company for any of my cab rides ever again. They need to step up and hire drivers who are not so disrespectful and rude. Not good guys, especially since you guys just got a raise on your flag drop fares. Maybe we need to step up and complain to the municipality more about the way your drivers act in public. read more

Well for the second year in a row we made the mistake of calling Yellow Cab for an early morning pick up to go to the Anchorage airport. We booked the ride the night before and stood ready outside waiting and waiting. We called the dispatcher 4 times to ask for pick up and remind them of the booking which they had and kept saying "just about there" or "5 more minutes". When a cab driver in the area saw our request for the first time it was already 35 minutes late and he said the dispatcher hadn't even sent out the request till then. He showed us his log as proof. He also said cabbies spend a lot of money monthly to pay for the dispatch service. It's killing them because I can say the first time this exact same thing happened to us last year I thought it might be a fluke. Now that it has happened a second time and almost cost us our flight I am not so forgiving. Never again will we ride with Yellow Cab of Anchorage. It appears that the problem lies solidly in the dispatcher's lap. read more

By far the worst company on the planet. So many stories on how these guys treated me over the years I could write a book. Taking long routes, catching an attitude because you wanna pay using a debit card instead of cash. Hello welcome to 2017 we have other types of payment options than cash. It's not the 80's anymore. The smell inside the cabs are disgusting, always expecting a tip, don't take the time to wait for you. Those days are OVER!!! Thank God for Uber and Lyft. I took my first Lyft ride in a 2015 Mercedes Benz, it was clean, the driver was friendly, I pay for the ride on the app so there's no argument over a cash payment, I couldn't believe the experience. You can rate the driver if he's a jerk. I jumped in a yellow cab today just for ish and giggles.
