Outside the lodge/house by the pier, waiting to depart (by seaplane) for Brooks Camp.

I flew with Katmai Air for the viewing experience at Brooks Camp within Katmai National Park. Getting to Brooks Camp and Falls Platform was one of the priciest daytrips I have ever paid for. For a 10-hour daytrip, it cost $1,150. But...checking around with other tour services offering the same packages...they're all similar. Katmai National Park and Brooks Camp is quite the luxury trip and for those park enthusiasts like me, with an opportunity to complete visiting all the NP's in the USA...an adventure like this is priceless. Let me fist run down the exact itinerary for the day... I departed out of Anchorage for this daytrip journey. I had to take multiple flights... - I flew to King Salmon, AK which is Katmai's Park headquarters. - From King Salmon, it's a 20-30 minute flight to Brooks Camp where the NPS hosts the Brooks Falls Viewing Platforms which are a worldwide phenomenon of an experience. - I received 5.5 hours at Brooks Camp to explore on my own accord. - Then it was the same return itinerary... - Brooks Camp to King Salmon. - King Salmon back to Anchorage. I departed Anchorage at 8am and returned just after 6pm back in Anchorage. So, there you have the 10 hours' time. I took the trip on July 21, 2022, and btw...July is the best month to visit Brooks Camp and Katmai as the bears and salmon are both out in full force. - 8am - depart Anchorage. - 9:15am - arrive King Salmon. - 10am - depart King Salmon. - 10:30am - arrive Brooks Camp. 5.5 hours at Brooks Camp. - 4pm - depart Brooks Camp. - 4:30pm - arrive King Salmon. - 5pm - depart King Salmon. - 6:15 pm - arrive back in Anchorage. I booked the trip online. I received an email receipt and a specific itinerary for the flight times. The email even had the address where to find Katmai Air because they're located at the regional airport, not Anchorage's Ted Stevens Airport. For the week I departed, there was a lot of rough weather in the Alaska area, and I actually had friends a few days earlier have their plans cancelled because of the weather. Before departing...I was told that due to weather...if I only arrive in King Salmon and never make it to Brooks Camp...I would be refunded 100%. That was reassuring. The reason I say this is because in Katmai Park, the pilots use their vision flying out onto the lake...and if there's no visibility, then planes can't fly in and out. But the gentleman who was in charge the morning of departure said he believed we'd be able to make it the entire way. I departed Anchorage on time at 8am and arrived in King Salmon at 9:15am as expected. Then it was a 5-minute bus ride over to the lake house building for the next flight over to Brooks Camp by seaplane. It was supposed to be a 10am departure to Brooks Camp. Unfortunately, instead, my group sat in the lodge/lake house and waited for instructions. We were just told that flights were backed up and there was no timetable. Finally, I heard 2 propeller seaplanes land next to the dock and obviously it was time to board. Finally, lol, as the clock was quickly ticking away from the initial 5.5 hours! So...I actually lost 1 hour and 30 minutes of valuable time waiting around at the lake house. Now I only had 4 hours at Brooks Camp and all of a sudden, my heart started racing thinking I paid all this money for so little time. 4 hours at Brooks Camp is difficult especially when you have to put your name on a 1-hour plus Wait List for the famous Brooks Falls Platform. That's why time is so valuable. Overall, I would have appreciated Katmai Air reviewing the entire days' worth of activities (in like a pre-departure discussion) and what was going to happen. Everyone in my group was pretty anxious knowing the weather was suspect and time was precious. Parking was free right in front of Katmai Air's offices. Corey, the pilot leading us to and from Anchorage and King Salmon was a fantastic navigator. She flew the plane through some rough clouds and areas. All us passengers applauded her during our landings. While at King Salmon waiting around for the prop planes to arrive, I asked one of the bus drivers if he could take me over to Katmai Park's Visitor Center in King Salmon town and he happily drove me there and waited 10 minutes so I could buy some mementoes. I tipped him $10 for doing this. But, no worries, Brooks Camps' VC had the same souvenirs. Overall, it was a stressful day heading out to Brooks Falls. A lot of unknowns along the way for the $$$. In the end, Katmai Air got the job done and for that I'm appreciative.

Our ride with Katmai Air Service to Katmai National Park!

My Dad and I had a great experience with Katmai Air - they were imperative with me getting from King Salmon to Brooks Camp to visit Katmai National Park and Preserve!!! As soon as I had my reservation at Brooks Camp, I emailed Katmailand to reserve our seats on the Katmai Air flight and on the bus to visit the Valley of 10,000 Smokes when we were in the Park as well. We had chartered a plane through Lake and Pen Air to go from Port Alsworth (Lake Clark NP) to King Salmon and Katmailand/Katmai Air picked us up from the small plane airport/runway in a van and transported us to Katmai Air. They weighed our luggage (we were able to leave some at Katmai Air), they weighed us, and then we waited to hop aboard the float plane to finally go to KATMAI!!! The float plane and flight was a hop, skip, and a jump away - super short flight - and before we knew it we were landing on the Naknek Lake. We stayed at Brooks Camp while at Katmai and of course took Katmai Air back to King Salmon before going on to Juneau with a short layover in Anchorage. We actually flew out of a different area than we flew in to due to some weather but it was completely fine. I felt very comfortable with everyone at Katmai Air. Katmai Air Service has day trips, flight seeing tours, and they will drop you off. I would highly recommend them as they are one of the only options to get to Katmai! Bucket list item, check!

Stuck with a last minute boat cancellation, Katmai Air came through for us and saved an excursion. The team there worked with us to get a flight without a prior reservation and were upfront and honest about the price, delay, etc. The crew were professional and helpful and remained organized despite the chaos of a busy summer weekend around them.

I hunted AK in September of 2017 and my bush pilot highly recommended I use Alaska Air Transit…read more(AAT) but I decided to book PenAir instead thinking they'd be more reliable because they are a bigger airline, plus their tickets were less expensive. I had to be in a small village on 9/13 to catch a flight into the bush with a bush pilot who was all booked up. Two weeks prior to my flight to AK, Penn Air cancelled my 9/13 flight to McGrath, AK leaving me in a very bad spot because there are only 2 airlines who fly to this McGrath. I was told I would get a full refund since they cancelled the flight. This ended up being a total lie. I immediately called AAT and was very lucky they had a few seats left so I booked with them. I am certain a lot of Penn Air customers were not able to get to this village on time or had to pay big bucks to charter a flight there. The AAT flight went off without a hitch and those working at AAT were very friendly, accommodating and professional. When I got to McGrath, all I heard from those who used PeAir was horrible stories; several were stuck in this village 4 days, spending $250 a night for the only Hotel, waiting for PenAir to get their luggage to them. I had booked refundable tickets with Penn Air on my flight back to Anchorage so after my bad experience and those from others, I called PenAir and asked if I cancelled my flight would I get a refund and was told I would since I booked a refundable tickets. This too ended up being a lie. I cancelled the PenAir flight and booked with AAT. The flight back to Anchorage with AAT again went off without a hitch and the pilot was nice and professional. Had it not been for AAT and their dependability, and a little luck on my part they still has seats available, my AK Hunt would have been a bust. AAT is a little more expensive but well worth it. I have learned a very expensive lesson about who to fly with in AK and will always use AAT going forward. I cannot say how thankful and grateful I am to all the AAT staff for being dependable, reliable, friendly and professional! As the old adage goes...you get what you pay for! It is January 6, 2018 and I still have not gotten refunded for the tickets PenAir staff told me without question I would be refunded. Fly Alaska Air Transit!

Which means, under some weather conditions they won't be able to fly or have delays until the weather clears up. The weather where you're waiting to board could be significantly different from where the flight is coming in from. I would much rather have them cancel a flight than to fly passengers in conditions they aren't comfortable with. Fog for an example - they don't have the technology like the commercial airlines to land safely with an auto pilot setting. Flying Ravn also means not having to deal with TSA, which is always a plus! Cuts off so much time! So you can literally just show up 30 mins prior to your flight. They also serve fresh cookies in flight - super delicious. They have various flavors. The white chocolate is probably my fave. The flight attendants & front counter folks are friendly as well! Can't wait for them to start their Northern Pacific flights, which will include Japan as a destination!! And PS - you can get Alaska Airline miles with each flight now as well!
