Had Anchorage plumbing and heating out to diagnose an error code on my thankless water heater. After an hour or so, they determined that the flow sensor was bad. After 3 trips back and forth to get the right part, they installed it and we had hot water again. A few days later we noticed that water was pouring through the cwndo) condenser now, something that never happened in the past. I called these guys back and they sent a tech out. The tech came in and looked at the unit, and told me that I needed a new hot water heater and they would put a bid in for me and then left. Did a quick Google on the issue and the first thing that came up was an improperly installed. Called Flow Star plumbing (who I had never used before) and they came out and checked the flow sensor. Turns out the wrong o-ring was installed. The new tech installed the correct o-ring and turned the unit back on and the issue was fixed. Our house's boiler was courteous enough to fail in summer. Since my prior HVAC guy had retired, I needed a new one. I called Anchorage Plumbing and Heating based mostly on their shop being nearby. I was told they'd arrive late that afternoon and to expect the emergency labor rate of $240/hr. Everett was at my home in about four hours. He quickly diagnosed a faulty expansion tank and valve and replaced both with new parts from his van. He also performed routine maintenance and said my older boiler probably wouldn't need service again for a couple years. Everett worked for over an hour but only charged me $160 for labor plus $200 for parts. I was really pleased with his professionalism and the final cost. As of today, July 27..17 days after my last email requesting help with passing code, I am still without resolution. I'll leave this till someone responds to me in any fashion. Please beware and ensure you do you due diligence with this company. This is my last email from 20240710, 17 days ago and still no response to my emails. Here is the email: Dshea, I hung up on Chris as he was saying that I kept changing my mind on what needed to be done. It has been the same since day one. Get the job done and done right. You guys put this boiler combination in and it's been nothing but a pain over something simple. I've sent no less than 20 emails trying to resolve this issue. It started with the old flue being left in the eve in January by your tech's. Here is the pic from 1/19/24. As you can see the old flue remains. We had emails going back and forth as you guys couldn't do it in January due to snow load, yet asked for all the money for payment when the job was not completed. I would however pay 35% on top of the 50% deposit so in total 85% with the remaining 15% to be paid upon fixing the flue and passing inspection. It was also approved in writing to wait and get the flue done right by ANCPH and pass inspection. As of yesterday, the inspection was performed AND failed per NIKLAS JACKSON of the Building Safety Division of the municipality. The Flue remains as it was installed by your company in January, 2024. Over the past couple months, I've had your techs come out and fix the substandard work. One for for the zone valve in the garage, and one was for the Thermostats between Floor 1 and 2 being reversed. I would turn on the First floor Thermostat and the 2nd floor would turn on and thus cook the upper floor. In regards to the flu fix, I've had your guys come out and say they are going to "Cap" the bottom of the flue. I asked them what that means and specifically and asked, "If you cap the bottom, what happens to the rain that is falling in the top in the 10" hole that is there now?" To which I received an "I Don't know" with a shrug of the shoulders. I then sent multiple emails out to you and Jeremy describing what the tech said and was proposing doing, and asking what will NOT flood my eve and living space. I waited 12 days for Jeremy to call me back and when he called, he was quite abrupt like I was bothering him. I told him the above and just wanted to know what was going to be done to avoid a tech coming out, wasting my, and ANCPH staff's time again and leaving my home suseptible to leakage. His reply, "We aren't roofers". I sent links to you and then to Jeremy in regards to 2 pieces at Lowes @ $9.98 each. Simple Flashing on the top and bottom. He offered my $100, then $250, then $500 to find a roofer to fix the flue issue. I told him to send me this and I would talk to my General Contractor and or a roofing company to see if it can be done for that amount, know what code is, and then get back to him with what I found out by my GC cost wise. I have ZERO idea what is code nor should I know but here I am trying to figure out your companies work. Then I get a call from Chris today and he has the same attitude as Jeremy in regards to forcing me to do the work. Yes, the offer stands at a $750 "discount" now so I may find my own roofer to perform this work. The issue is I still have ZERO idea what is code and Anchorage Plumbing and Heating is making it my responsibility to meet code and pass inspection with this process. I would then be responsible for the inspection and approval of your install, which in my eyes, with the above as my history with your company, doesn't give me any trust in it getting approved. Now I'm forced to spend more time. I would suggest that Chris, myself, and my contractor meet there today and Chris can give my GC instructions on what would pass. My GC would do the work for $750 paid directly to them by Anchorage Plumbing and Heating rather than giving me a discount, I will pay the 15% in full. Like I said, the client, myself, shouldn't be responsible and in the middle for someone else's work and passing inspection. I can meet there today along with my GC, you name the time. You guys can exchange cards, whatever is necesary to get payment to him, and I pay your remaining bill the day after inspection has passed as per the contract and we can all be done with this and move on. If you wish to go legally, i.e. collections with me, then I will counter file for substandard work and sue for damages to my home and incomplete work by your company and failure of the inspection. Not trustworthy nor reputable to say the least. Long story short: They were called to fix a leaky faucet in shower at my elderly parents' house (75 & 87). About $800 later, it was "good as new" according to the tech, and job was confirmed as complete in written invoice. Within a few days it was discovered by homeowner, and admitted by a tech that they had caused damage to plumbing during their previous job, which now causes a leak into the wall. Who knows what kind of water damage has occurred. They are wanting to charge to fix the damage they caused. When told they need to fix at their own expense due to their negligence and shoddy workmanship, the tech left quickly. A higher-up was contacted, but they doubled down and are refusing to correct the issue. Called this service to come out to one of my rentals where a tenant was having uses with their hot water going in and out. I had an appointment booked for Monday and no one ever showed up. Called them and they said I was never on the schedule...I had to rebook for the next day and waste another 2 hours of my day waiting for them (they did show up) . I run multiple businesses I don't have time to wait around for people not to show up. After completing an inspection and repairs (zone valve and aqua stat) it cost $700.00. Less than 12 hours later my tenant text me that their heat is out (this was never an issue prior to their repairs). Called them back in and they said the whole unit would need to be replaced...not sure why they couldn't tell me that before spending $700 on useless repairs? I called my regular contractor to come in to look at the unit and all it needed was a valve to be replaced...This goes to show that their technicians are not well educated on all boiler units which will result in false diagnosis and a waste of your time and money. Explained the low and high end of the repair. He came back to do the work. Could've easily told me I needed the high end but didn't. He just did the work necessary. Saved me $100. My final bill was thousands of dollars more than the original quoted price and I had to practically beg them to pull a MOA permit for the project. AP&H regularly serviced my mother's residence for well over a decade. Unfortunately, the last two service calls have been abysmal. First time late and wires crossed between their scheduler and service technician. He showed up hours late and unsure of the work requested be done (cleaning and inspection). Tech calls me and states he can't do anything until a number of parts he outlined were changed. (None of the items would red tag the system). Keep in mind they have our exclusive provider and had inspected the system last season. We asked to scheduled the necessary work at earliest opportunity....which was three weeks later. Here we are three weeks later. Drove in from the Valley to meet the technician for the scheduled 9 a.m. appointment. Given their history of miscommunication, my wife called on day prior to speak with them and confirm appointment. Additionally, I received a voicemail confirmation a short time later. Here we are, waiting for the tech to show up for over an hour when phone rings. You guessed it, tech went to another address and started a job...and he'd be over when he gets there. Unbelievable! Only hope this type of confusion doesn't carry over to the work they're performing. In the past years they'd been so reliable. Unsure what's changed...but it doesn't appear to be for the better. Customer service is a disorganized mess! I live on the Upper Hillside and have a broken furnace. Have used this company for years. Called on Monday -I was very clear about where I live and the road conditions. I was put on the on-call list for Tuesday and finally had a scheduled apt for Wed. First thing Wed Morning the dispatcher calls me and says they can't come because they only have 2 wheel drive vehicles. Called back. The office manager Tonya told me that SHE knew the 4 wheel drive vehicle was in the shop as of Monday but DID NOT TELL the people scheduling appointments. She absolutely would not apologize, either. So now, I have a broken furnace and have to scramble to find another company that can get to me to fix it! read more

This was a horrible experience. The dispatcher was rude and whenever I asked a question he would repeat the same canned responses that didn't answer my questions. The service tech that came to my house was even worse. He looked at my leaking water heater and said I had two options. 1. I could order and purchase two parts (because he couldn't tell which part leaked) then it would take him up to four hours to replace the part even though the leak was quite easy to access. When I asked what I would do with the part that wasn't used he basically said it was not his problem. or 2. He could take it apart, see which part was leaking, then leave it apart until he ordered the part and the part arrived. This would leave me without hot water for days. Whenever I asked a question he gave me canned responses (like the dispatcher), never answered the questions, and talked down to me like I was an idiot. He eventually told me I was being argumentative and told me to get a different plumber. Which I will gladly do. If I could I would give a lower review than a one. They deserve a -10. read more

Anchorage Plumbing and Heating is hit and miss. First time we had a plumber come from the company he was fantastic! We had a small boiler leak and air in the system making noise. Quick work and and low cost fix. Friendly and knowledgeable plumber. Next time we called for a problem with our in-floor heating in our garage. It was a 4-way valve replacement. It ended up being a special order so we waited for the part to come in and it was replaced. It ended up being expensive but when I looked up the cost of the valve we swallowed hard and paid the bill. The plumber was Mark and his helper. There wasn't work for two people so??? Then we had a problem with the boiler shutting down-no hot water, no heat. He came and made some adjustments that were not effective and had to be called back but he was thoughtful about the cost and recommended a possible fix at a low cost that actually worked. We were very happy as the other option was expensive- $500-1000. Next, the Boiler Mate(hot water heater) went down. We had it replace by a plumber friend. It took him ALONE about 2.5 hours. We were delighted. This time was our Amtrol Boiler Mate went down AGAIN! This is our 4th Boiler Mate hot water heater since 1999! Grrr! The last two times we had it replaced on warranty but the cost of labor and parts are not covered. Our disappointment came when Mark and his helper showed up (labor cost X 2 at $135 an hour). We went and picked up the unit so they didn't have to hopefully saving on cost. HAHA the joke was on us. At a cost of $675 labor it took the two guys 5 HOURS to take out the old one and put in the new one waiting for them in the next room. We have lost our faith in this company and MARK the plumber who needs a helper to do anything Mark doesn't want to do. In retrospect, I believe good honest plumbers work for this company but avoid Mark and his helper. Paying $135 an hour for a slow plumber and $135 an hour helper is stupid. read more

A month ago I had APH come purge the water through my baseboard water heaters to try to make them quieter. This was a "routine service call" that took 45 min. Jessie, the plumber who did the service had an annoyed attitude and was very short with us, threw old parts he replaced behind the washer instead of throwing them out, and then forgot to hook the washing machine drainage hose back up to the drainage outlet--just hanging off the wall. I found this out when he left and I did a load of laundry and it flooded my basement when it drained (standing water in the laundry room, seeped under walls and soaked brand new carpet in the surrounding rooms, soaked an electrical outlet and tripped the breaker). I called their emergency hotline and the plumber they sent out was very nice and apologetic. He took pictures of the water damage and told me I would hear from the manager in the morning. The next day, I never got a call so I called the manager. He was cold and unapologetic, basically told me "these things happen." He asked me what I wanted them to do about it. I told him I want a refund on my $165 service charge, and for them to pay for the damage they caused. He did not offer to refund the service, but did send out Taylored Restoration (who were amazing) and they set up fans and dehumidifiers, and checked the extent of the water damage. The fans went for 3 days until no moisture registered. Taylored said they would come back to clean the carpets, and repair the water-damaged wood paneling in the laundry room but were waiting for APH to accept the charges. It has now been a month since this happened, and I am still waiting. I have visitors coming and need to get the basement ready, so I called APH again today and spoke to the manager (another very unpleasant conversation). Again, he refused to refund my $165 because in his mind, they are going above and beyond by paying for the damage they caused, and it is unreasonable for me to want a refund because technically the service (purging the baseboards) was completed. I argued that the service was not completed correctly because the drainage hose was not put back the way it was found--thus the flooding. This service caused more damage than it was worth. Finally, when I told him I am going to dispute the charge on my credit card if he doesn't refund me, he agreed to refund me. I am surprised this company has a high rating, because everyone I've told this story to has negative things to say about APH due to similar things. One friend said the plumber dented in their dryer badly from standing on it, and they refused to do anything about it, and multiple people have said their plumber from APH was extremely rude and sloppy. I am glad they are paying for the damages, but I am annoyed that they think they are going above and beyond by doing that...the manager acted like I should be so thankful they are fixing the problem they caused...?? Needless to say, I will never use them again and I will caution people against them. If the manager had handled it better, I might give them a second chance and just call it a fluke, but his attitude left a horrible taste in my mouth. I've heard great things about Mountain Mechanical and Circle Plumbing and Heating so that's the route I will go next time! read more

Late review from a few months back: A friendly guy came to the house to fix the disposal and had it done in 15 minutes. Because I was paying per hour, he went and checked my home for leaks and my heating unit because he felt bad for having to charge the full hour when he only used 1/4th. Honestly, the hourly price is quite reasonable and I was psyched to have my disposal working again. If that wasn't enough, he showed me how to fix it should the same problem happen again so when it did, I fixed it myself! So I'd say the education and the fixing was well worth the hourly price! They offered same day service on an urgent shower leak and when someone else cancelled (their loss) they were able to get a plumber out to me within 30min of my initial call. We signed a contract and provided a deposit with this company to replace a hot water heater. The estimator, bid sheet, and contract spelled out that they would be moving a washer and dryer unit to gain access to the water heater. After waiting over a week to have our hot water heater installed, the technician came out on Friday afternoon. after less than 10 minutes, they packed up and left. The technician claimed that he could not move the washer and dryer and left. When we called to speak with the company we were told that we would have to speak with Jeremy, the service manager, and that he would call us back. When we asked when he would call us back, we were told "when he calls you back". After several back to back phone calls requesting a time of when we could expect a phone call back, we were transferred to Jeremy. (he miraculously became available) After speaking with him, we were told that we could have to hire a mover to move the machine. We told him this was not acceptable and that Anchorage Plumbing and Heating told us they would move it. He then refused to do the job, and told us instead he would refund our money and would not discuss this further. We have waited over a week for this company to come out and fix a hot water heated in Anchorage . . . in the winter. . . . The company refuses to talk to us and we now have to wait another week to get a actual reliable company. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT USE THIS COMPANY. A guy from Anchorage pluming and heating came out and worked on the water heater. He broke a gas valve while working on it and left. The unit was filled with gas. Later we called and had their night plumber come to fix what they had broken earlier. They never apologized for their mistake that could have easily killed someone. I had some straightforward work that needed to be done and anticipated several hours of work. New kitchen faucet installation, bathroom faucet hook-up, and furnace maintenance. Two technicians were here and I assumed I would be charged an hourly rate from each of them. When all of the work was finished, it took half the time I was quoted and I was charged a very fair price. I have used Anchorage Plumbing & Heating in the past and always had good luck with them. Plumbers are usually courteous, prompt and knowledgeable. Two weeks ago I had them out to clean my furnace. I was selling my house and wanted this done prior to moving. Plumber Joe came out and said he was doing an inspection. I told him I just requested the furnace be cleaned and they were running a special so I asked for that. He said no, he was going to do an inspection. I also asked him to replace a cap to the shut off valve behind my washer. He said he didn't have a cap so would replace the whole valve. He didn't even offer to go get a cap and replace it. He said I needed to replace my garage heater (it was cracked) and my hot water heater because it was leaking gas and had a small leak on the top. He wanted to give me an estimate and when I told him I was moving he wanted the names of the new owners so he could call them. Seemed he just wanted to sell me something. That "cleaning" and replacing the valve cover cost me $230. Another plumber told me he would have done the same thing for about $120. I felt I was ripped off. I had another plumber come and fix the hot water heater for a few bucks. He said it did not need to be replaced. I had him replace the garage heater as well. I called Anchorage Plumbing & Heating and spoke with a manager about my concerns. He said he would talk to Joe and get back with me the next day. It has now been 10 days and I haven't heard a word. Scheduled an estimate for a bathroom remodel and water heater replacement. Guy showed up on time, but was rude and condescending. Waited nearly a week for a response, only to be told they were too busy for our project. Never again. read more
