I recently just completed a project with Anchor Property Services. My project was a 110 square feet patio in a condominium complex that needed to be replaced. The patio had been laid years ago with no landscaping foundation, resulting in weeds growing out of my brick. I solicited from several sources from Thumbtack, another general contractor and Anchor. Anchor came in mid-range, and I liked Perry's detailed plan for my patio project. Other companies had quoted using existing material while Anchor proposed a full replacement using material that they had leftover from other projects. This is where the first few issues started mounting. First, a demolition of my existing patio needed to be completed. After I had paid a deposit, Perry said he would be in touch around a certain date. One day, I came home to a demolished patio. My gate was locked with a padlock, so my only assumption is that the crew had to hop my fence in order to get to my backyard. In some neighborhoods, this would be considered trespassing. OSHA would call it a major safety fail. Later, I found many, many pieces of paver brick scattered on the condo association's grass areas, in the bushes, leading to the parking space where their truck was parked. I had to clean this myself so I wouldn't get in trouble with the Condo Association. My second issue came when a date was actually set by their Operations Manager for the job. I would be expecting someone to come out at a certain date at a certain time. I had taken a telework day to stay home and observe the work. By 11AM, no one had showed up to work on my patio, and no one was going to come that day. After finally rescheduling, a week later, a crew was sent to my house to start work. This was this particular project manager's first project with Anchor, but he stated he had been doing this for over 20 years. The crew did a good job and worked diligently during some periods of heavy rain. The bulk of the work was done in one day, but it took 5 days to finish the project. During the process, the project manager pointed out that my A/C was sitting on some cheap foam. He then suggested I get some 4x4s to prop up my condenser. However, he wanted me to consult with Perry before doing any physical work with the A/C unit. After calling Perry, I was accused of "directing work" by him. I myself have absolutely no construction experience and thought that this was within the bounds of the crew. Coupled with everything described above, I just did not have a sense of satisfaction with Anchor and felt intimidated. A neighbor had asked about my patio and who I used and if I would recommend them Anchor for the patio project. I told her no, I would not recommend them. read more

I do not feel compelled to post reviews of services very often but I feel that it is important to review the project Anchor completed in my front yard. This project was completed back in March 2018. In my initial hunt for landscape services I was going for affordable. I ended up selecting Anchor, not because they were affordable (they were on the more expensive end of the quotes) but because they seemed like they would produce detailed quality work. In the end the project became incredibly cumbersome as a client. At the time of the initial assessment I was very clear that I was trying to repair the lawn and the shrubbery that was ripped out for other repairs. That means I needed to replace the shared flower bed of my neighbors and my lawn. Additionally, I needed to do some concrete work to my front walk up. Anchor suggested I do my entire drive but at the the quote they offered for a small drive I declined. We also planned to have my down spout and sump pump go out to the street. On D day everyone showed up and things were happening as planned. The concrete contractor (learned later on they were a SUB-contractor with Anchor), offered to do the drive for a reasonable price. I was able to pay for all costs upfront. No concerns for down payments or payment plans, this was an in and out job.... When putting the Laurels in the landscapers refused to place them where I had requested because they did not realize I was replacing what I had to rip out on my neighbors side. I called the main office tried to inform my Anchor contact but to no avail they placed them where they wanted. Now for the down spouts and sump pump pipes.... the sub contractor laid them into my neighbors lawn and was not ideal with follow-up or follow through. I told them that under no circumstances should I be dumping water into my neighbors lawn. Welp, guess what is still happening to this day in June 2018. The sub-contractor did come back about 1 month after install to "fix" the piping but simply extended the pipe further in their yard and buried it more for me to not see.... when I made note of this to Anchor I was "blamed" as the customer for working with the sub-contractor separately. YOU NEVER BLAME THE CUSTOMER! The customer is always right. Additionally, it was not clear until after the work was done that the concrete contractor was a "SUB" contractor for Anchor. I was under the impression that he was just making a better offer on the spot since all the material was available the day of. Additionally, weather the concrete contractor did more work or not! We agreed for the pipes to be laid one way and you as the contracting agency should have had more oversight over your project for were they ended up. Speaking of oversight. On the morning of June 19, 2018, 2+ months after the job was completed the Fairfax water meter readers tore up my front lawn!! I was furious with them till I got to the end and realized they had sodded over my water meter! Yet again. This should have been caught prior to completing the job. There is zero reason to sod of the water meter. I had to repair the front lawn after the meter readers left and piece it together after dropping 6k on a job I should have been the official project manager for anyway. Finally, Anchors level of follow-up after a job is completed is zilch. I asked for lawn help because I am not a lawn person. I feel as though I was treated like some small pre-season side job that paid top dollar for bottom dollar customer service. To add, the level of creativity for the flower beds was very low and there a weeds all over. But who knows what I was not offered. I was clear I was not a lawn care specialist and was very apparently treated that way. I felt dooped. I had so much optimism in the beginning but was slowly proved otherwise. read more

I reached out to Perry as one of my three estimates on converting a large laundry room into a Master Bath and separate Laundry. It was a significant undertaking and Anchor came in in the middle of the two other bids. Anchor was my obvious choice after it was clear Perry was taking his time to understand, down to every detail, what I was looking for and provided an extremely detailed estimate hitting on all the points we discussed. With some construction background in my younger years, I am a fairly difficult customer, but anytime I requested a small change, it was quickly taken care of. Their crew, from the front office to the Carpenter who served as foreman, were enjoyable to work with and knowledgeable in their respective crafts. I have confidence that I have someone to reach out to during the project and, more importantly, after everyone is gone in the event something goes wrong. Perry and his team clearly stand high on their reputation which gave me the confidence to use them. As you will hear when starting any project, you can always pay less and grab a guy with a truck, but the piece of mind and commitment of someone maintaining a reputation is well worth it. If there is was an area for improvement, it would be the communication triangle of GC - Sub - Homeowner. Communications always worked great between any two of those, but it wouldn't always make it to the third leading to confusion time to time. Great experience overall. I went with Anchor Property Services based on my inital positive experience with them for a partial bathroom remodel and the great reviews online. From phone conversations to the inital estimate and through the first week of the project I'd give 5 stars. I was working with a project manager who was great with communicating with the team doing the work, showed up each day to make sure they had everything, checked their work, and gave me updates. After the first week, things started to go downhill. The project was supposed to take a week but was delayed by one day due to miscommunication. Ok, no big deal. This was Wednesday. The PM assured me they'd be back on track to finish by Saturday. Plumber was supposed to come Friday and didn't, one of the other guys that was onsite was trying to reach the PM and couldn't, neither could I. Saturday no one came, no response from the PM so I contacted the owner and contracts person to confirm when the project would continue. They were apologetic and said he was unexpectedly no longer employed there. Ok...more delays and communication issues the following week with the team onsite (some bilingual, some Spanish speaking) not having proper materials, arrival time, etc. Project ended up taking 2 weeks and some tiling work had to be redone after the walk through. Overall the work done was just ok, not worth the time, money, or frustration. I tried to be understanding of their situation but the mismanagement and quality of the work as the project progressed did not reflect my initial experience. read more

I had demolished my backyard with a Front End Loader, with the dreams of building a sick patio (my wife, being the sage she is, forecasted my utter and extreme failure). 6 months later, my yard looked like the swimming pool hole from "Encino Man", and I was throttled on an hourly basis by my now pregnant wife. Contracted with Perry Henderson to build a fense and gate. There are significant problems with the gate and I have been attempting to get Perry to correct the work since July 2012. Perry has validated the problem and given me two specific dates that he would correct the work and not followed through. My next step is to take this to Small Claims Court. Recommend you find a contractor other than this one. read more

Our ordeal with Anchor is ongoing, so this review will need to be updated at some point. Perry started out very professionally. We met several times about our property and what we wanted. He showed us a property he was working on. I signed a contract and paid him $2,400 in August for a design (plunge pool with swim up bar attached to a sloped-roof pavilion with fireplace, built-in grill, seating area). I received first draft in October after a long period without hearing anything. We had some revisions for the final draft. They weren't too complicated. We went back and forth until the end of the year with no final draft. I asked repeatedly for a rough estimate of cost and an estimate of when they could start work because we wanted to have the project ready for entertaining in 2022. We got no reply. Since mid-January I have repeatedly asked via email and phone messages for some sort of response or update. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Very bizarre because up to the point he stopped responding to emails and calls, Perry was fairly professional. At this point, I don't even know if the company is still in business. So, I paid $2,400 for a first draft, which I don't even have in hand! read more

I used to rave about Anchor landscaping for hardscaping and landscaping work they provided for me 5 years ago. Unfortunately, Perry's customer service and business ethic has suffered greatly since then. When I requested a quote for a similar project at a new house, Perry never followed through with a quote, and was extremely rude and unprofessional in our last email exchange. There's plenty of landscaping companies out there- don't waste your time with an unprofessional and rude one. I wasted three weeks before I ultimately started the process all over with another contractor. Hopefully you won't make the same mistake I did-- just pass on this one. read more

Avoid like the plague. We retained Anchor Landscape Services in October 2013 to install a new lawn (13x13). The sod was installed and we anxiously awaited for our new grass to grow. In April 2014, we noticed that significant patches of the lawn were not growing. I spoke with the owner and asked him to stop by to take a look; he agreed. A week later I followed up with him to find out his assessment - he said that he was unable to stop by and would take a look the following week. Despite repeated attempts to contact this company (phone calls, voice mails, emails), we have not heard anything from them since. Now, May 2014, the lawn looks like a bad haircut. There are significant patches of dead (brown) grass. Aside from what appears to be defective workmanship (the installation of the sod) and/or a defective product (the sod), the most disappointing thing about this company is their apparent total lack of concern for their customers. Not returning a phone call or emails is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Post installation, this company offers zero customer service - you are on your own. It leaves one to wonder if perhaps their "one and done" business model has caught up with them and they are out of business? Failing and/or refusing to engage with a client after the work is completed is certainly not a sustainable model, and with that modus operandi, it should not be long before Anchor Landscape Services is out of business (if they are not already). read more

Perry was easy to work with ironing out the specifics of what we wanted and quick to adapt when our plans ended up changing. Even after all money had exchanged hands they were quick to answer any of my questions and even sent several follow up emails to make sure everything was going well with their work. We hired anchor to do a plantscape in our front yard. We were very clear during the estimate meeting that we wanted the work to hide the ugly front porch and to be low upkeep. After paying the deposit and while speaking with the plant specialist it became clear that our intent to hide the porch had not been relayed by the owner. I reiterated our desire to hide the front porch, she indicated she would add some larger bushes in front to ensure that happened. Then two days before the work was to start the owner emailed and tried to upcharge me $250 for the bushes that were needed to attain the original intent of the entire project. When I expressed my dissatisfaction I was told they would "eat" the cost. On the day of the project I came home to the plant specialist and her workers still in the front yard. They had not laid any kind of weed barrier and the bushes at issue were very tiny, in fact all of the plants were very young and covered nothing. The work was completed nearly three months ago and we have had to de-weed and pull grass multiple times and the bushes still are not even one foot I height. In the end we received nothing that we asked for and paid top dollar for it. Both attempts to seek remedy fell on deaf ears. We do not recommend this company. read more

Perry, owner of Anchor Properties, is a discerning professional. We original contracted Perry to grade our back lawn and put in a patio in a roughly 1000 square foot space. The challenge with our backyard is that we live on a hill without car access, so all materials, equipment and pavers had to be hand carried during some very hot days. We also have a yard of hard clay, making work even more arduous. After an initial phone consult, Perry spent time with us on sight on two separate occasions helping us to envision what our backyard could look like. He was creative and solution-oriented, providing a vision for our backyard that we had not considered. He was open and honest with us on budget, pointing out where overages would occur and where we should invest for an excellent product. Ultimately, we have no complaints about Perry. He has a superb group of professionals on his team. The project took longer than expected, but that was mostly due to the historic heavy June rainfall. We certainly challenged Perry and his team, when we would make adjustments mid-project (a contractor nightmare). We respect that Perry was receptive to these changes and willing to push back when something was out of scope or would not work. In the end, we ended up with a gorgeous backyard that is like having a new room addition to our house. We will absolutely work with Perry again on future projects. His team is already working on an interior project, showing the same attention to detail with quality carpentry. read more
