In July 2017, I hired Will Hazen / Shore Werks / Shorewerks. We signed a contract and Mr. Hazen…read moretook a 50% deposit ($8,400.00). Mr. Hazen / Shore Werks / Shorewerks never showed up onsite again and no work was ever performed. He just took a check, left and never returned. I hired a lawyer to sue the man because, in addition to refusing to do the work, he also refused to return my deposit. February 19, 2020, the judge in the case (Case No. 19SC677 in Grundy County Illinois) ordered Mr. Hazen, Defendant, to pay me $8,400.00 _PLUS_ $2,225.00 in Attorney's Fees _PLUS_ $469.64 in court costs _PLUS_ (because of Hazen's egregious behavior) $2,000.00 in punitive damages. It is now November 2, 2020 and we haven't collected one penny from this man. So now the judge has issued a warrant for his arrest (a "body attachment"). Do not do business with this man!!! I cannot warn you strongly enough!

The terrace that Shore Werks installed is separating at the corners by over 2". Despite emails and…read moretexts stating he would do the repairs for well over a year, he has not completed them. When he responds, Will says that the ground must be bone dry. When is anything bone dry in Illinois? We're not talking Arizona here. Strongly recommend that if you are considering this contractor that you withhold substantial payment to make sure that the job is done correctly. Compare his quote with a reputable company with a long track record, not only for price, but for proper installation. The corners were not installed correctly, there was no drainage installed and he didn't use geo-grid. Realize that fixing a project done incorrectly costs more than the initial install. By the time it's apparent that he doesn't intend to make good on his word to repair the project, you may have lost over a year of enjoyment of the project.

Rock Solid Builders tore our old deck down, with the exception of the structure. They rebuilt the…read moredeck using Trex and it looks wonderful. This is a walkout deck so we had them install the Trex Rain Escape underneath and finished off with white PVC bead board. We had a few issues and they addressed them right away with no hassle. The team that installed the deck was very meticulous and clean. We love the upper and lower deck and will spend lots of time outside. Highly recommend the RSB for your decking.

RSB tore out our old small deck and railing in front of our house and built a new one. Even when we couldn't make up our mind with colors, the office sent us photos of other people's decks using the colors we thought we'd be interested in. The workers were here on time every single day and were always polite and very hardworking. They were working out in the cold (December!) and I told them several times they could come in to warm up and/or use the bathroom and they just smiled and said "OK" but never did. The quality of their work is outstanding. The couple of things we were concerned about were pointed out and they corrected them immediately. The only complaint we have is about the Trex decking itself...we weren't aware that the screw holes (and there are a lot of them) are visibly noticeable, especially on the white fascia. RSB said there's nothing they can do to cover them up; they've tried the plugs and they eventually fall out. If every contractor could be as reliable, communicative and hardworking as RSB, we'd all have it made! Too bad all they do is Trex decking.
