He was beyond efficient!! He was able to do a dock visit which I greatly appreciated. He really listened as I informed him of the saga that was this engine as we assessed what had not yet been worked on. I appreciated how he explained everything as I'm a new boater, step by step so that I can address some of the issues in the future myself and know what to look for. After replacing the water separator he got to work on the carburetor and fuel pump. He took the time to do a sea trial, which made me feel a lot more confident and even tested that all the proper alarms were in place for if the engine overheats etc. She's now running like a champ and getting to enjoy some summer weather out on the water. I highly recommend Marine Craft Services and will definitely go back for inevitable future projects. Because boat.

Over $65 for a guest slip which was difficult to reserve at the kiosk due to a terrible system combining a parking kiosk, a paper list of available slips, and no obvious way to pay for power which is course cost extra. To add to this less than stellar experience, they have a porta potty that, as they generally are, was absolutely disgusting and not well maintained at all. Took forever to find the slip. Nothing is well labeled, no obvious map at the fuel pump, and the least intuitive numbering schema I've ever witnessed. Two other boaters I kept passing were just as lost having to make unnecessary maneuvers while searching for their assigned slip. Epic fail. I wouldn't dock my boat there again if it were sinking and that was the only way to save it.

His strength lies in listening to what you are looking for and being honest about expectations. I would whole heartedly recommend the PT Boat Company to anyone wanting to buy or sell a boat without all of the stress of trying to manage that process yourself.

We bring our 25 years of experience in the marine industry (USCG 100ton Captain and Maritime Instructor) to help you buy your dream boat or sell your current boat! We started Port Townsend Boat Company in 2018 as a way to stay connected to what we love: boats! I grew up playing and working on boats on the Chesapeake Bay, then proceeded to work in Maine, the Caribbean, New Zealand and finally arrived in the PNW in 2003. In 2011 my wife, Kai (a PT local), and I sailed our Ingrid 38, "Velella velella," from Port Townsend to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We then proceeded to live aboard for six winters, while working in PT or Alaska the other half of the year. Once kids came on the scene, we decided it was time to "swallow the anchor" and moved back to Port Townsend full time. We are so thrilled to be back in our favorite port and I'm excited to be able to offer my 25+ years in the marine industry to help people connect with their next boat! A Salty Life is a Great Life!

I contacted Haven Boatworks 6 months prior to my haulout date. I was in contact with a "systems"…read moremanager. I paid a $3,000 deposit and presented a list of work, that I was assured could be addressed. I have a large sailboat and stressed the need for scaffolding, which I was assured would not be a problem. The scaffolding used, referred to as pyramid scaffolding, took almost 5 days to put in place. I was told by this systems manager, that metal scaffolding, which I have used for every haulout for the last 18 years, doesn't work because it cannot be curved around the boat, which is not true. Expensive to erect, too close to the boat in some places, and too far from the boat in others, was a disastrous nightmare for the entire time I was on the hard. Towards the end of the first week, with no progress toward the major projects started, as I only had 30 days available, I ask for a short meeting with this systems manager. He assured me that all the work could be completed. As my anxiety grew, I was given workers for a few of the minor issues. The days passed, and I began to realize I needed to concentrate on simply getting the boat back in the water in sufficient condition to return home. None of the major projects were addressed; only more excuses as to why they could not be completed before launch. Presently I am looking for local companies to help with the (mess) that I sailed home with. Right at $3,000 for haulout / in, and moorage on port property went to the PT Port, along with a significant invoice from Haven, and a long list of headaches yet to be completed, is the way I left PT. During my stay on the hard I talked to other boat owners that had similar experiences with Haven. I STRONGLY recommend not considering Haven Boatworks for any maintenance repair.

The entire nav station was a rat's nest of "home made" variety that Matt had to sort out & correct. His work is impeccable! I would recommend Petrel Marine to anyone needing a marine electrician. He was timely, competent, reasonably priced & great to be around as I worked on other areas of the boat. Got a kick out of his UK accent!

He thoroughly tested the batteries and determined that only 1/4 was still functioning within acceptable parameters. He then not only offered me a number of different options for replacement/upgrade of the existing batteries, but also educated me pretty thoroughly on the relative benefits and drawbacks of each option. In addition to replacing the old lead acid batteries to AGMs, he also installed a new 40 amp charger (the old one was 20 amps) to help take advantage of how much faster AGMs can be charged than conventional lead acid marine batteries. He also installed 2 Xantrex LinkPro battery monitors, so that I can keep track of my draw on both banks and avoid discharging my batteries to the point where I won't be able to start my engines (and also won't be severely lessening the useful life of my new batteries by overdraining them). Next I plan to have him install an alarm that will sound in the cabin when the batteries are drained below 50% capacity. I am also having him swap some of the boat's accessories from one battery bank to another so that both banks draw more equally under normal use. We also plan to install an automatic starter for the generator, controlled by the battery monitors, that will activate the gen-set at 60% capacity, charging them back to 85%, so that I can stay out on the water indefinitely without ever having to worry about being stranded by drained batteries, all the while treating my brand-new AGMs in the best possible way to make them last for many years to come. I was thoroughly impressed with Matt's responsiveness (virtually instantaneous, whereas I've waited days and even weeks for other marine professionals to respond to my inquiries). Although this is the busiest time of the year for folks who work on boats, he was able to fit my project in a few days after we first spoke. He was very upfront and accurate about the estimated cost and he came in right on budget, despite running into a few complications along the way. All-in-all I couldn't be more pleased with Matt and Petrel Marine. I recommend him without reservation to anyone looking for help with marine electrical/electronics!
