AJ was our server on Saturday evening and we had a great experience with her service and getting reacquainted with Anchor Bar. We used to visit the one in Buffalo when we went to Canada until we moved further down south. I was so surprised to discover this location opened up not too far away from me. The bar is decorated in Buffalo sports paraphernalia and there are tons of flat screen tvs all throughout the bar. We were seated quickly and AJ was very sweet and accommodating. She checked with the chef if we could get a double order of wings but split up the serving with different flavors on two separate plates (10 extra crispy wings with mild Buffalo on one and 10 lemon pepper on the other). We also ordered the fried shrimp with her recommendation, honey garlic sauce on the side. Our food arrived piping hot and crispy just like we asked. As we were nearing the end of our meal I was curious about the differences in their sauces so we asked AJ about the various kinds. Instead of describing them she offered to bring out a plateful of each sauce in tiny sample cups. She did just that! definitely underwhelmed!!!my husband was so excited to eat here as we love the one in NY... big disappointment! Our server was not good. Beverages sat empty, despite him walking by numerous times. We literally had to flag him down for eveything. Took 2 other tables order while I was waiting for my drink. My husband had his. Wings came so overcooked. One was nothing but one bite of meat. At 1.69 per won't I expect more than one bite. Rest was bone and overcooked skin. Then pizza came. Ordered a supreme no doubt server messed it up. Came with nothing but onions and green peppers. He's says oh I'll get my manager. Really - so we wait again. Over 40 minutes for first order to come out Had to wait for another pizza so another 15 mins despite being told it would take 7. then bill comes they charged $2 for black Olives !???! First visit to the Raleigh outlet of this Buffalo staple that claims to have invented the Buffalo wing. It's an L-shaped room with the bar in the corner. It's a lively sports bar with plenty of tvs for fans of every sport. Classic rock plays in the background (better than the blare of the TV sports commentators). It was a full house on this Friday night but not so loud that we had to shout to converse. We all tried.... Wait for it.... WINGS! The wings themselves are nice sized, no scrawny bites here. The medium sauce is perfect... Some heat, flavorful and not overpowering. Wings are sauced perfectly - tossed but not swimming in sauce. I prefer extra crispy, and mine were prepared that way, as ordered. Sweet potato fries, regular fries and tots are good... Crispy and hot, but not special. They also have wine and signature drinks. The wings are good- not a Buffalo medium- more a Raleigh Medium - I am originally from Buffalo- the wings come with Carrots and Celery- these came with only celery. We have been eagerly anticipating the opening of this new restaurant in North Raleigh, knowing it's an offshoot of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, home of the original Buffalo wings. Four of us checked it out this Sunday and were quite pleased with our experience. We are also fans of Beef on Weck which is also from upstate NY, so we had to try their version along with their wings. The Beef was so tender and we loved that they serve it with real horseradish on the side, along with a tasty au jus. And we all liked that the weck (roll) had just the right amount of salt. It wasn't overbearing. Fries good. Slightly sweet perhaps? Wings nicely executed. Onion Rings got the thumbs up from Husband. I'm happy to report they have a combo on the menu for around $20 that comes with the Beef on Weck sandwich, plus 5 wing pieces (your choice of sauce, but really you gotta get the original), and a side. Great deal! Curious about their pizza, we also got a large pepperoni to go for other meals. It was good, but I'm a thin-crust Gal and this one is super thick. I found the sauce to have a tomato flavor, but not really a pizza flavor. It was like eating bread with tomato sauce on it (lighter on the sauce than I prefer also), with cheese and pepperoni. They do use the good cup-kinda pepperoni though. If you're a Bills fan, this is your place to watch the game. If not, perhaps go when they aren't playing, cause it gets packed and loud. At long last, I got to try the originator of the Buffalo wing. They do have primarily Buffalo sports memorabilia on the wall, but props for having a Jets hat on the bar wall! Maybe just get rid of the Patriots one? Anyway, wings come in orders of 10 and those can only come in one flavor. So to get two flavors, you have to get 20 wings. Or you could add an order of 5 additional wings and get those in a different flavor. At least the celery was free. Since one of us isn't into spicy food, we started with the garlic parmesan and these were amazing. Super flavorful sauce, loads of shredded parm on top. I was thinking this would be an amazing base for garlic bread. The Chipotle BBQ was a super thick sauce. Had the tiniest hint of heat, but not spicy at all. And the quality of the wing itself needs to be appreciated. They are never frozen and they are large wings. No dinky ones like you might find at certain chains whom I won't mention by name! Also the fried shrimp are a sneaky good order. Very crispy and a nice size. I did get them with the lemon pepper dry rub and it wound up being a huge amount of the rub. In fact, in fact, they may have been overseasoned. Speaking of dry rubs, they only have 4, and I do wish they add more options there The bar is decently stocked but it's not the most thorough variety of spirits. They do offer a large assortment of draft beer options. I was a little surprised they only gave us 2 or 3 napkins each and we didn't get hand wipes though. The bartender was incredibly friendly, he did a good job making us feel welcome and keeping our beverage glasses full. He also took the time to clean our empty bone bowls. I only stopped there for one thing.An order of 20 hot buffalo wings, extra crispy Togo. The wings were not extra crispy , nor were they hot (spice level 1 out of 10). I'm not looking for anything crazy.But I expected good flavor and spicy buffalo. I called the store to let him know that.I was the only one in the restaurant and I ordered hot wings but was informed that original buffalo store hot is there medium. Lesson learn if you want hot.You better ask for extra extra extra hot if you want some spice.Because these don't even taste mild. Within a few minutes of sitting at our table we noticed a lot of food on the floor all around our high top table. Between myself and my wife we had them clean the floor 3 times. Talked to a shift manager and he was not too concerned about the dirty floor. The Boneless Wings with Mango Habenero were good, until the floor grossed us out.. We went to the Anchor Bar for my wife's birthday and it didn't disappoint! They have a nice beer menu with a nice mix of brews on draft, I got the Anchor Bar Amber and it was delicious. We ordered the wings, pepperoni pizza, and a grilled chicken salad to split. They were all fantastic! We wish we had ordered the wings we'll done, as they were a little too chewy from not being fried quite as long, but still good. The cup pepperoni are so delicious and really added to a superb 'za. Someone with us ordered the beef on week, and they are from western NY and it tasted like home. He gave me a run down on the background of Anchor Bar and it definitely shows in the food. Extremely average pizza and wings. Decent draft selection. Kitchen service was slow, but wait staff was good. To be fair, it was a Friday night, but still quite slow for pizza and wings. Lots of TVs with excellent visibility. I'd go here to have a pint and watch a game, but not to eat. Advice: be sure to specify order size for combos explicitly. We were a party of two and they brought us the large pizza and 20 wings combo, which was absurd. Against my better judgement I didn't want to make a fuss during a busy time, but you get upcharged for that combo and I have to wonder if that was done on purpose to drive up the bills read more

I'm originally from western NY where this started and this was my second visit. first time, 3 of us ate in. ordered 2 kinds of wings and 2 pizzas. one loaded, one just pepperoni as I was telling my friends how good the cup n char pepperoni was. first waitress was HORRIBLE. nice personality, but terrible experience. the gal with us wanted a barbecue type wings and what the waitress recommended came out was a dry rub? loaded pizza came out first and was an 8 out of 10. when we asked about the pepperoni one she said ill have to check and then came back and said they ran out of pepperoni? it was Friday at 7:00 pm..... we believe she forgot to place the original order. she never once cleaned any of the dirty dishes or trash off the table. one of the worst services I've had in a long time. today, I decided to get a cheese and pepperoni pizza to go. I literally threw it away after eating 2 pieces. I guarantee it was a frozen cheese pizza with the cup and char pepperoni exactly like they serve at the bowling alley..... I really have a hard time understanding how two weeks could be so good and then show up at three in the afternoon today and the most horrendous ever. This place is not gonna last in my opinion. Waitresses were very unorganized. First waitress - took our request for two tastings. Then second waitress came up - and said that we were her table. So the first waitress comes back with beer samples. We immediately order 2 beers based on that from the first waitress. And we wait. And wait and wait. Beers finally show up via second waitress. We order. I asked for salad to come out before food. It did not - I had to ask again. Salad was nasty with brown spots on the lettuce. Food shows up, she drops it off and never comes back to check on us nor give me enough time to complain about the salad. Pizza was not cooked enough to be crispy and definitely NOT enough to be "cup and char". Tried to flag down our waitress - but she was not to be found. When she did finally show up - I told her about the salad (you could see the brown spots on the lettuce) - she didn't say a word but just picked up the bowl and took it away. Wow. I have been to anchor bar in buffalo numerous times and was never disappointed that being said this was not even close to what we are used to in buffalo. The wings were not crispy at all and we were told by the server that they were trained by people from buffalo to cook the wings. We told here they weren't that good and she said she was sorry. Ain't at the original establishment up in Buffalo, New York many times when traveling there for travel baseball. Was excited to see that one was opening up here in Raleigh. I have ate there twice already, food is very good, the only difference it seems are the wings need more sauce, as they're kind of borderline dry.
