Combo plate, Weck and wings. I think $25. Local ipa added another $10/11.
Greg M.

Pleased to have an airport opportunity to get the iconic Anchor Bar wings since I didn't make it to a downtown wing joint this trip. Pros: The combo plate of Wings and Beef on Weck met my Buffalo culinary needs. The wings (medium) were expertly fried to crispness, and sauced well. I even got an extra on the plate. Celery and blue cheese proper temp and good traditional complements. Weck roll and horseradish both authentic and well done. Beef generous for the plate. Bartender friendly with great personality. Cons: absolutely chaotic when it gets busy. Luckily I was able to squeeze through to a seat at the end of the bar. Luggage everywhere, long line to get a table. Limited beer choices - though the local IPA I had was perfectly fine. Mac salad "meh", and disappointing to see the costs to substitute it. Au Jus was in a small container and a bit salty. Overall, a little pricey even for airport prices ... but good enough value that I'd return. Crappy reality TV stunt show on bar TV. Net - net: come here to get your buffalo wings and Weck fill if you missed out elsewhere. If you are seeking a quiet relaxing place while awaiting a flight, this may not be the place.

We were immediately seated by the hostess and welcomed by our waitress. Less than five minutes after placing our orders, our Caesar salads were in front of us: So fast! The lunch was just right while waiting for a replacement plane!

My parents love this restaurant for buffalo wings. They say they have the best ones. The ceaser salad was good. Nothing too crazy. You should definitely get wings here though. Employees were very friendly. Food came fast.

Anchor Bar is the one thing that makes this airport so great! This is a satellite of the original famous Anchor Bar in Buffalo that our best friend of blessed memory loved as he lived in Buffalo for a while. My wife and I both had platters with the Beef on Weck and the Buffalo Wings which were amazing. We tried two of the local Buffalo beers on draft we loved which were the Big Ditch Hayburner and the 42 North Borderland IPA and tried the one Canadian beer we didn't try which was Labatt Blue that we didn't like as much. The service was also great and very fast.

Like most airport restaurants it's all about the time you stop in. We were here just ahead of the lunch crowd and had a great meal and friendly, on time service. Wings weren't drenched in sauce so they had a nice crispness when biting into. I liked Duff's just slightly better but both were 5 stars. Even bought a bottle of sauce to take home and can't wait to try it on some homemade wings.

There aren't a lot of options in the airport so I decided to give Anchor Bar a try. I was in Buffalo so I thought I'd get buffalo tenders. What a disappointment! I've had better tenders out of the freezer section at the grocery store. They were so flat and had almost no meat. I ordered medium sauce but it just tasted like bbq sauce. Flavorless bbq sauce. The bleu cheese dipping sauce tasted like tarter sauce. The fries were good and my waitress was friendly. They should not serve this ever again. Especially in Buffalo

As I was waiting for my morning flight and with limited dining options, I decided to try this restaurant. The restaurant decor was okay.... just another restaurant in an airport. However, the music is very inviting with a mixture of country music. Great selection. The restaurant was not busy plus the menu is more limited for it's breakfast options. Matt, server, took my order right away. I decided on the Breakfast Sandwich meal which included breakfast potatoes and a beverage so I opted for a soda. Within a few minutes, the meal was delivered. The meal was okay, however, it really did hit the spot. Matt was friendly while he checked in with me. Overall an decent restaurant for breakfast.

Ok. Airport restaurant so I'm assuming mediocre at best but IT WAS GREAT! I've eaten at the original anchor bar and honestly wasn't expecting it.to be as good but it was delicious! Our server was Bobby and he was quick and efficient. We had the chicken wing soup (GET IT!! YUM) and the "wings n weck." I've had so many wings and beef on weck this trip and I have to say these were up at the top of my list! The roast beef was super tender and juicy and the horseradish had the best burn,, the wings very crispy, and the soup was fantastic. I strongly recommend eating here esp if you're getting your last Buffalo Food fix before heading back to wherever you came from!

Not the original, but hopefully the same quality of wings!

Fun to eat at an Anchor Bar even if it was in the airport. The wings were top notch- definitely better than any other airport wings I've had. Obviously there is a reason they are famous! The mozzarella sticks were good- but nothing unusual. The roast beef on weck, was simple but tasty. The weck bun has salt and caraway seeds on it. So good with horseradish and au jous. The Mac salad was different than Hawaiian, but it fit the meal perfectly. Our server was great and was very efficient and friendly.

Aside from the reputation for this being the home of the original Buffalo Wings, which were awesome by the way, this is a must stop while in the Buffalo New York area. Stopped by after visiting Niagara Falls and the food, drinks and service were excellent. The wings were big and crispy under a not-too-spicy original sauce. My wife likes the drummies and we received our order with them exclusively at no extra cost. We even had plenty extra to have the next day as leftovers. The decor is impressive inside and provided plenty of photo opportunities.

So I'll start with ambiance - very cool visually. It's fun to look at the wall and see all the celebrities who have visited over the years. Next, the smell *sad face* the restaurant kind of had a vague sewage smell that felt evident when you walked into the dining area. Drinks - bloody Mary was amazing. It was honestly everything that my Buffalo wing loving heart could ever want. A Bloody Mary with a chicken wing inside? I mean, come on. Appetizers - we got the sampler platter and thought every thing was good. The pizza logs were a group favorite. Main event and what you more than likely came to find out, THE WINGS - ahhh I was disappointed! The flavor itself was nice, but were undeniably either over cooked or dried out or maybe both? I am a wings cooked well done kinda lady but these were way too much for even me. They were crunchy - but not in a good way. And the blue cheese was really mid for an establishment that claims they were the home of the original chicken wing. Service - just fine and pleasant enough. All in all our journey to original home of the buffalo wing was a disappointment. Next time I think we'll try duffs!

I dropped in at this place since I was curious about the famous chicken wings. I ordered mild sauce but it was still a bit hot for me. Since I do not like the taste of margarine, the sauce was not to my taste. There were a lot of other options on the menu, so the experience there may depend on what you order.

Buffalo wings, hot.

I mean, is it REALLY fair to review an airport-based outlet of a world-famous chicken wing place? Probably not, but I was passing through Buffalo and figured I ought to try the Anchor Bar. I don't like chicken wings (I know, I know: the HORROR!), but I still wanted to try it. As far as options at the Buffalo Airport go, this wasn't a horrible option. We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess. The prices are higher than they should be, but you're paying for location and convenience. My hubby opted for the hot wings and fries, and I got the chicken sandwich with macaroni salad. Our food came out very fast, which is a huge plus at an airport. The place wasn't very busy that day, but the kitchen was quick. Everything was hot and looked appealing, and our orders were both 100% correct. I had requested the buffalo sauce on the side because I'm not a fan of spicy food, and it came in a small container with a lid. Seems dumb to waste plastic like that, and I would not have asked for my sauce on the side had I known it would come in wasteful packaging. My chicken sandwich was unmemorable. A thin, fried chicken patty topped with cheese, lettuce and tomato was very standard-issue. The meat reminded me of the traditional chicken sandwich at Burger King. it wasn't high quality, but it was hot, crispy, and fresh. The bread was the best part, toasted and very soft. The macaroni salad was good and made for a visually appealing side. Overall, this meal wasn't something that was craveable, but it was passable. Hubby enjoyed his chicken wings but said they were far from the best he'd ever eaten. He didn't love them, but said they were okay "for an airport restaurant." The fries were delicious, but neither of us has met a fried potato we didn't like! I guess if you want to say you've tried the Anchor Bar, you probably ought to go to the original when in Buffalo. But I couldn't leave the city without trying it. Maybe next time I'll make an effort to dine outside of the airport.

The GPS took us to the first location that opened (the waitress said the 1960s) a long time ago. The building is sitting at an angle from the road so go to the right and turn in to park or go past and turn right for the parking lot. Middle of the afternoon on a Thursday they weren't too busy. We were seated immediately and waited on quick. I wanted some clarity with the wing heat. Some places hot is mild or hot is burn your face off. She clarified the medium hot is hot so that's what I decided on for an order of 6. My sister isn't so much of a wing person so she decided on a grilled cheese. The waitress was pleasant and answered all the questions we had. The restaurant itself isn't too big but can seat a lot of people. Total wing vibe. Lots of different flavors and quantities went by...everything looked tasty and fresh. They had Yuengling on tap so that's what I ordered. She had a pepsi. Food arrived fast. The aroma was to die for (ok it burns the eyes a little...). Came with celery and blue cheese. The wings were amazing, some of the best I have ever eaten. Crunchy celery and cool dipping sauce. Bigger than most that I have ordered and very freshly prepared. After 6 I was filled up...but I ordered another brew just to wash it all down. If you're in Buffalo (or the area) it's definitely worth stopping to have a treat. Other Buffalo favorites are on the menu as well (Beef on Weck sandwich. We will definitely be back, more flavors to try and locations to enjoy.

The sandwich was great and really salty (per the custom), but the bread became soggy pretty quick. I would dip it in the jus and try to bite it but the meat just couldn't be bit through and no matter how hard I tried it just made a sloppy mess. That was disappointing. The wings were ordered Medium Hot which they warn you is "Very Hot"... but it isn't. They were good, but next time I will order Hot because there was little to no burn. The fries were the frozen variety but nice, skinny and crispy. I liked dipping them in the leftover wing sauce. Next time, I will skip the sandwich and just get wings and fries. Hopefully it won't take me 5 years to come back.

Instead, the place felt more like a cavernous tourist stop than the legendary wing destination I had imagined. The wings were good, but not great. We ordered them dry so we could try several sauces. The wings were cooked perfectly. The sauces, however, were underwhelming. We tried the garlic parmesan, the original, and the extreme heat sauce, which I believe used to be was called "Suicidal." They all seemed to rely almost entirely on cayenne and butter, with limited complexity and less heat than expected. Maybe I've been spoiled by other wing spots with more creative sauces and better blue cheese and ranch, but these just didn't stand out. That said, the service was great, and I appreciated the staff. I'm glad I went for the history, but based on the food alone, it didn't live up to the hype. I will not go back.

The huge portions made up for the bland flavors. I visit the city every year in the fall, and I am still trying all of the wing places that have been recommended. The latest on my list was Doc Sullivan's, a very, VERY local watering hole. This is the kind of place that makes you immediately remember that you are absolutely not from here, but in the best possible way. Doc's is a historic, no-frills neighborhood pub smack in the heart of South Buffalo's Irish Heritage district. The second we walked in as clearly obvious outsiders, the entire room of rough-and-tumble regulars seemed to pause their conversations, turn towards the door, and stare at us. Even the bartender (who also doubled as the host and our waiter) clocked us immediately with a cheerful, "Hey visitors!" It was hilarious and broke the awkwardness we were starting to feel. Everyone was incredibly nice and welcoming once the moment passed, but it was clear we stood out from the regular crowd. If you have an aversion to dive bars, this is not the place for you because Doc's is not fancy. It's well-worn and smells like Fabuloso cleaner mixed with stale cigarette smoke and old beer. I was surprised at how clean the place was, but it does have that dive bar smell and feel. I felt like I'd walked onto a movie set because this place screams Buffalo, and does so loudly and proudly. I'm not a fan of chicken wings, but my hubby is. Food-wise, he ordered a half dozen of the famous Smitty Wings at the suggestion of the bartender, which come coated in the house's unique spiced butter sauce along with a half dozen with hot sauce. He liked the Smitty wings fine, but preferred the classic hot Buffalo wings, which he said had legit heat and were "more than decent." Not his all-time favorite wings, but still tasty and meaty enough to earn his respect. I went with the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was massive. It was a fried chicken breast patty on a super soft, fresh roll with lettuce, tomato, and onions, tossed in a mild Buffalo sauce that had just enough heat for a timid spice girl like me. The quality was good, but not great, and it was basically the same chicken sandwich you can get at dozens of places around town (it was very similar to the same menu item at the Anchor Bar, for example). The fries were nothing special, and they tasted like regular old french fries you'd get at your local deli. They were freshly fried, hot and crispy, and we both appreciated that malt vinegar was already on the table. We had a good experience at Doc Sullivan's, but agreed that we would not go out of our way to eat here again. I wouldn't call it a must-do for foodies, but I'm still really glad we went. While the food wasn't all that memorable, it felt like a true local Buffalo experience that you don't get at polished, tourist-friendly spots. This is the place if you want to soak up local character and are seeking another stop on your buffalo wing eating tour.
