I play trivia at anchor barn Tuesday night and they've got the new ownership for the franchise and they've updated the menu. So tonight I ordered boneless chicken fingers. Which were excellent they make their own. It's real piece of chicken. It's not something processed that was frozen they batter themselves and cook them so it's cut up. Chicken breast piece is very good. I will order them again. Service is always warm and friendly. The place has had a big turnaround since the new management. If you haven't been there in a while I'd say give it a try. read more

Large draft beer selection however they are out of half of them. The one beer I did decide to get taste like vinegar probably due to dirty lines and bacteria. Food took over an hour to come out. Want to warn anyone about Anchor Bar on Maple in Amherst. Ordered wings tonight and the ends were cold. The wings themselves weren't hot enough to melt the sauce Sent them back and waitress said 3 min later she had new ones made. I know wings take more than 3 min to cook. Wings again were cold on the ends. Told waitress and she said , maybe next time the food will be better. Beer was also flat On the way out , saw the manager and told him when he asked how everything was. Offered no solution other than he would talk to staff. He mentioned something that made me really sick. I said the wings were cold and he said , they couldn't have been because we par cook them I looked up par cooking chicken (feel free to look it up. ). This place is not as good as the original anchor bar and service was incredibly slow I ended up getting a grilled chicken sandwich and it came with lettuce and tomato and onion but no mayonnaise or any kind of sauce on it so it was a bit dry. It was very large so I took half of it home. It came with a generous portion of potato chips and that was it. They also charge for refills on drinks and they didn't tell us that ahead of time. Our waitress was very nice and friendly and very helpful but that was about the extent of the reason I would give it to stars. My friends got beef on weck and they said it tasted good. read more

Ordered salad without tomatoes, it came with them diced all throughout. Order Beef on Weck, it was rubbery and the au jus was so light it was the color of light pee. I had to ask what it was. We had never been to an Anchor Bar before so while we were up from Houston and my sister's fam was here from Missouri, we decided to get some ORIGINAL Buffalo wings. We came at an odd time, around 3pm. The place was empty, as expected. Plenty of seating. Atmosphere was a great sportsbar. We even saw a dart board, a past time we used to LOVE! Our server, while nice, wasn't as attentive as desired. BBQ sauce was missing from our niece's boneless wings and my brother in law said it had been 20 minutes since the server was there. Poor girl sat there waiting while everyone else was enjoying their food. Some of the things our party got were: beef on weck, wings, tenders, kid's pizzas. The beef on weck and the wings were great. I was thoroughly under-impressed with the tenders. I personally found the exterior of them hard to bite/chew. I wouldn't get them again. (Had a bite of my husband's beef on weck and should have gone with that.) The kids did not like their pizzas ($7.99). My 6 year old nephew said his pizza wasn't good but maybe it was because "the pepperoni was burnt." Prices: Well, like everything nowadays, prices are a bit high. $15 for 4 tenders and fries. $8 kid's meals. Beef on weck with wings was $22. 10 wings was like $17.50. All in all, good wings, good beef on weck. Would be a good place to watch a game. For me personally, I don't think I'll seek this place out again. read more

I am originally from Buffalo but had never been to Anchor Bar. After a long day showing my family around, we discussed where to eat. My cousin gave some suggestions and then I said we had been talking about trying Anchor Bar. We all met there around 9:45 and sat down and ordered some appetizers. We got the Buffalo chicken dip, queso and chips, and fried mac and cheese balls. The amount of queso and Buffalo chicken dip for the price was pretty crazy, but it tasted good. The chicken dip had very little chicken in it. It was more like Buffalo cream cheese dip. We put our order in right before the apps came and the wait began. We waited and waited and waited. It was over an hour since we arrived until we got our food. The place was not busy, but our server was too busy cleaning to check on us and make sure we didn't need drink refills or have any issues. When the food came out, it was pretty silent. I didn't hear anyone say "This looks good!" or any other positive remarks. I looked over at my cousin's plate and the chicken tenders were big masses of something and were burnt, crispy, and hard. The chicken inside was dry and way overcooked. My grandson got the kid's tenders and his were the same way. My daughter got the beef on 'weck and boneless wings. Both were inedible. She passed the sandwich around to see if it was just her or not, and everyone confirmed it was terrible. My mom's fish dry was downright disgusting. It was hard and she tried to get some of the fish out but there wasn't anything inside the breading. The boneless wings my son and his finance got were also inedible. This whole time we never saw our server and our drinks remained empty. We asked for a manager and told her we wanted every except the apps, one order of wings, and drinks taken off. She explained that they're trying something new with the tenders and boneless wings and making them in-house. They need to practice on non-paying customers! She seemed unsurprised about the complaints we had and said she would redo the check. She came back and handed us the check. It was over $130 for three apps, 10 wings, and a couple sodas. We then looked at it further and saw they charged $34 for a mandatory tip of 18% that was figured off the bill before the food was taken off. We protested it and wanted it removed but she refused. My son went and got his wallet and paid cash for the cost of the food and what he thought was a tip that was commensurate with the service received. We walked out and were chased down by a different manager threatening us with calling the police and yelling at us, calling us scumbags. We went to our car after she went back in and then she returned and was saying she's doing her due diligence and started taking pictures of our license plate. My husband demanded she remove the pictures off her phone and she refused until we paid the rest of the bill. He went inside and paid the remaining tip of 20-something bucks and we left. After the food and service we received and being called derogatory names and being chased out of the restaurant, we were all in disbelief. We have never been treated like this at a restaurant and the upper management needs to take a look at what's going on there. The first manager's breath smelled like alcohol. We all smelled it across the whole table. The server barely came to our table. We had no refills on our drinks. We had no utensils, plates, or napkins. The wait was unacceptable for the amount of patrons in the place, and the food was godawful with small portions for the overinflated prices. I now wish I would've taken my cousin's suggestion. This whole thing was very upsetting and had my 72-year-old mother shaking!! read more

My husband and I stopped in today, for lunch. A very large party of a youth hockey team was just leaving. Upon us checking in, hostess mentioned it would be a bit before they could clear a booth/table. We elected to wait, within 5 minutes we were shown to a booth, Staff was cleaning up after large party. They were all very respectful to us, as they cleared tables. Our waitress, Amya was so super sweet and attentive, Very personable and quick. Food normally here is just okay and leaves us wanting more, but we decided to try the restaurant for a family party. The hardest part about planning this was the delay in email communication, and getting a reservation in writing in an email to confirm we could confidently invite our guests here. But they did put together a great buffet for us for 50+ people with reasonable costs in a sectioned off area of the restaurant with designated waitstaff for drinks etc. They did not rush our guests out at the end time and had to-go boxes for all the leftovers. We walked in at 9:29p and were turned away! They said they assumed we were a party of 2 and not 8 so they could not serve us! The woman claimed the manager said no! What restaurant turns away customers because they want to go home? Absolutely poor business and if the manager made that decision the owner should think twice on who they have in charge. Original buffalo wings were decent. The wings were very slightly rubbery. The blue cheese sauce was good, with a lot of cheese. The sampler platter had mozzarella sticks, pizza logs & fried pickles. All were good. All 3 had a light batter & stayed crispy for a long time. Roast beef on weck with spicy gar par: the gar par was decent. The bun was decent but quite salty (the bun was crusted with salt). Got a bowl of chicken wing soup. It was pretty nice - rich & creamy, but on the salty side. read more

We came in to dine after a fruitful Hockey game in which my girlfriend's team won in Buffalo !! After ordering our food the wings came out first. One of the most absolutely wonderful wings we've had in some time. After the wings were devoured we had a Burger and Philly cheesesteak that ended up being cold and less than exquisite the quesadilla was wonderful. We called our food back and got the Burger and cheesesteak replaced. Our replaced meals were absolutely divine! When we were looking for somewhere to eat for our first meal in Buffalo, my wife came across the birthplace of the buffalo wing, and knew she had to take me there, knowing my love of wings. They do not carry Dr Pepper, sadly, and the staff did not check on our drinks very often - and the store was NOT that busy. We got the Buffalo's Best to split - it came with five wings and a roastbeef sandwich. She also got a soup, and I got another 5 wings on the side. The two wing flavors were the garlic parmesan and the honey garlic. The garlic parmesan wasn't that great, but the honey garlic was really good. We both liked it the best. I really like the sandwich, and could see why it was a favorite of the menu. We got our daughter the pizza sticks, but she didn't really want them and sadly just stuck to the fries. It was worth trying, but I'm not sure I'd come back to this particular location. read more

This place is only still open because they the first buffalo wings. I have lived in Buffalo for 5 years now and this is probably the worst wing I've eaten here. I don't get it. My boyfriend and I stopped here for a quick lunch on the way back home. First, I want to say that the server did a wonderful job. While there was a game going on, the service was really friendly and quick. It was just the food that we didn't enjoy. I ordered the tuna melt with some wings on the side and my boyfriend ordered the American burger with some wings on the side as well. The wings were very subpar. Ours were small and way over fried and drenched with sauce. It was so interesting because we had recently come from Vermont where we had wings several times and they were incredibly good. This review as for the amherst location. I have gotten take out from the original Anchor Bar downtown and it is a much better experience. The food was just not very good. The pizza was doughy and undercooked, and under seasoned. The mac & cheese was inedible for my son; it just had some sprinkled, unmelted cheese over some rigatoni. Plus maybe some cream sauce. Even the wings were just so so, and tasted like they had been sitting out for a while under a heat lamp, chewy rather than very crispy. Overall a disappointment. If you are going to go to Anchor, Bar, go to the original location downtown, which I'd rate a solid 4 stars. read more

So we ended up here because my husband wanted to go to both of the Anchor Bars during our 3 night stay in the area. We are staying at the Hampton Inn located less than a mile from this restaurant, it was late, we were hungry, so we ended up eating here the 1st night. I caved as I did not want to go. I had read my review about the other Anchor Bar that we ate at several years ago when we were here for at the same softball tournament we're playing in now. I remembered the review and the restaurant and that neither of the men who wanted to go here were impressed by the wings. The salad was also average at best. I assumed this Anchor Bar would have the same menu and same quality of food. Furthermore, the reviews for this restaurant were far from good. So here we were. We were seated right away and were at a booth. The hostesses were far from attentive and nice and did not seem happy to be there. On the other hand, our waitress was quite pleasant and attentive. She took our orders and brought our drinks out right away. I got the Diet Coke and hubby got water. We knew right away what we wanted to order. My husband ordered the chicken parm and I got the Cobb salad. The chicken parm came with a side salad. The side salad was brought out shortly. It was a nice little salad with plenty of veggies. My husband seemed quite satisfied with it and ate every bite. A bit later our meals were brought out. Surprisingly, his chicken parm was a tiny piece of chicken and a plate full of spaghetti. He noted {and I found this to normally be true} that chicken parm is usually a big piece of chicken and a small order of spaghetti on their side. As it turned out, the portions were probably for the best as he said the chicken was absolutely horrible. He maybe ate half of the small portion and had to spit the rest out as it was just not edible. He did like the pasta and the sauce. When the waitress checked back in with us, my husband pointed out the problem. She did not seem concerned or offer any remediation. My husband asked if bread came with the meal and she said no. She did not indicate she would make any concession to try in bring some out as his chicken was inedible and could not seemed to have cared less about whether we were good with our meals or not. On the other hand, my salad was exceptional. It was a nice serving of grilled chicken. Plain but moist and quite edible. There was also a nice amount of egg, tomato, bacon, and a very not yet ripe avocado. The one thing missing was cheese. However, I did not anticipate that problem being solved as none was offered when the chicken was inedible so I didn't bother to even mention its missing to the waitress. We finished our meals and left shortly thereafter. While I was tempted to raise the matter with management, the obviously uncaring staff there were giving me the impression that no one really cared about quality or customer service so we just left. The sad thing is that I'm sure my husband will insist on going to the other original Anchor Bar and eating wings there. If I can be guaranteed to get another salad as good as I he had here (and with the cheese it was supposed to have), I would definitely go. But I don't know if I'm ready to risk that not being delivered. read more

Over the years I have eaten a lot of wings. It has been quite a few years since I've been in the Buffalo area and wanted some wings. Anchor bar was close, I've had wings there before and they were good. On top of all that, Buffalo chicken wings were created at the Anchor bar. We ordered a bucket of 50 wings. First thing we noticed is we only got a hand full of celery.. kind of cheap. On top of that, no carrots. WTF? We ordered the wings with extra sauce, so there was plenty of Frank's hot sauce. These had to be the worst wings I ever had! Chicken jerky is the best description I have. Over cooked, dry and extremely chewy. I will not be going to Anchor bar again. read more

Anchor bar is typically quite busy but I'm not sure why. The food is okay but the prices overall seem too high for what you get. I was even charged 2.99 for a club soda (I was the DD). It's only fizzy water and I have never been charged for it anywhere else. My husband had a deep Eddy with club soda and it was $10. My friend got a very small side salad and asked for just lettuce, cucumber and a lemon wedge and she was charged over $5 (she's on a strict diet). The server was very nice but didn't come around too much. The ambience is pretty nice, the place is large and they do have live music but it's not a place I would frequent. read more

Me and my family came into Buffalo for the first time and wanted the Buffalo experience. I will never be back here. The first issue was the wait on a Saturday night, the resturant wasn't busy at all yet we still had a 45 minute wait. This should've been our first warning sign. We finally sit, our food took a while considering the resturant was at less than a quarter full. I was nearly to the point of asking the table next to us if they were going to finish the food they had because we were getting that desperate. When the food finally got there the two orders of Mac and Cheese were legitimately ice cold (which the waitress said in passing that she didn't make). Even after getting it back it was luke warm at best but at this point I would've eaten anything, until I tried it. This was the worst Mac and cheese I ever had, it was a struggle to finish even with the desperate state I found myself in. I thought things couldn't possible get any worse until I tried the burger. This was a mistake as when I looked around, not a single person ordered anything other than wings. I could only equate it to eaten cardboard it was basically brittle. This has no redeeming qualities, imagine the gross krabby patty from the episode from SpongeBob, in looks and taste. The only redeeming quality were the wings which based on other places around were mediocre at best but better than elsewhere in the country. Overall I wouldn't recommend ever coming here even in your most dire circumstances unless you only want wings. read more
