After walking the entire length of Duval Street and visiting the Southernmost Point buoy, we were honestly too tired to walk all the way back to the area with the main restaurants. So we started looking for something nearby and came across this place. It's not a traditional restaurant -- they've basically turned the porch into a seating area. You order at the counter and wait for them to bring your food. There's also a small general store right on the porch. We placed our order, and it took a little while for them to prepare everything. The fried banana was really good. My sandwich, though, was pretty boring. Still, it was a chill and peaceful spot to sit in the shade, eat lunch, and watch all the cool cars go by -- a nice, relaxed lunch overall. read more

A great place to grab some breakfast (or lunch) and sit outside on the deck. The staff here is always so friendly and welcoming, and the food comes out fast, hot and fresh. I have been coming here for years and I enjoy their coffee. They have great breakfast sandwiches, and lunch sandwiches. I really enjoy their coffee con Leche with the tostada. The service is really good and fast depending on the line. It only has outdoor seating with a cool outdoor space that wraps around the building. They also have an inside market. read more

A hidden gem! We found this place on our first day by chance and have gone back every day since! The Spicy Cuban is the bomb!

I ordered two coffees at the walk up window on a Saturday morning around 8am. When I arrived there was a line with about 5 people in front of me and it went rather quickly. I got both coffees within 5 minutes of ordering. The coffee was fresh and robust, bursting with flavor. My cortadito was perfectly balanced with just a hint of sugar. This place has a laid back atmosphere with ample outdoor seating. Lots of people sitting outside enjoying coffee and food. We didn't order any food this time but it all looked great. I visited Ana's Cuban Cafe in Key West to try a Cuban breakfast for the first time. The dish came with rice, black beans, sunny-side-up eggs, and a piece of Cuban bread. Everything was fresh and plated well, but the meal felt too carb-heavy for my taste. The eggs were the only real protein, and I ended up eating only about half the rice and bread. It just didn't feel balanced. What I did enjoy, though, was the 4oz Cuban espresso. It was strong, smooth, and exactly what I needed to start the day. That alone made the stop worthwhile. The cafe has open-air seating, which I appreciated. There was a nice breeze, and the temperature was comfortable when I visited in the morning. The environment was casual and clean. The staff was efficient, but the person who seemed to be in charge felt somewhat indifferent; not unfriendly, but not welcoming either. This little place has a lot to offer: Wonderful Cuban coffee, very good Cuban (and other) sandwiches, and a market. They offer many sandwiches other than the Cuban. There is no seating inside but there is an outdoor patio with seating. Most people seemed to get their sandwiches to go but in the morning, you can see that folks enjoy hanging on the patio with some very good coffee. I read a lot of amazing reviews about this place so we stopped in for breakfast one weekday morning. The staff was very helpful and friendly and they have a nice, large menu... loaded with many Spanish breakfast delights and Cuban sandwiches too. It's a walk-up window with all seating being outside, but on a covered porch. You place your order at the window and they bring it to you once it's ready. The items we tried were great! Very tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The kitchen (from what we could see)looked nice and clean. They even have a couple of amazing hot sauces, the habanero one is insanely spicy, but very tasty! Prices are fare as well... I've been eating Cuban Sandwiches my whole life. Grew up partially in Miami, then moved to Tampa in my 20s (actual birth place of the Cuban sando). I'm so disappointed in myself for never thinking of this simple alteration. These guys offer two levels of "spicy" Cubans. I did level one. Which is a basic switch out of standard pickles for pickles jalapeños, and yellow mustard for spicy mustard. It was absolutely amazing. I'll never eat a standard Cuban again. There was another level with habanero peppers. That may be a bit too much for me. But I'd never blame you for trying. Next move. Get your sandwich. And the grocery store priced beer of your choice. Then walk down to the end of the street (about 200 yards) to the Southernmost Point monument. Sit on the ample benches there facing the beautiful Caribbean Sea and enjoy your delicious spicy Cuban with jalapeños and a beer at 1/3 the price of the bars on Duval! read more
