Craft Encounters is based at Broadford Post Office - or perhaps I should say, Broadford Post Office…read moreis based at Craft Encounters; it's a very tiny Post Office! Should you be passing through Broadford whilst you are on the Isle of Skye, it's well worth pulling into the parking area which runs the full length of the the shops along the main street - starting with the Top Shop (Alton & Finlay) and ending at Craft Encounters/Post Office. At Craft Encounters you will find an enticing display of gorgeous cards and gifts - and none of the terrible tartan tat sold in too many of our Scottish 'gift' shops (if I see another green, furry Nessie in a tartan tammie, I'll throw up). The shop is attractively laid out and you will usually hear some soothing music playing gently in the background - always Scottish and generally Highland in nature but always a pleasure to listen to. The music is not intrusive and doesn't impact badly on the shopping experience. You will find gifts of all kinds; local art, books on Scotland (scenery, nature, walking, climbing, local history, unusual pottery, jewllery and silver - and much more. The staff are pleasant and helpful and will answer your questions in a friendly and efficient manner. Whilst, like most stores these days, the shop no longer accepts cheques they do accept credit card payments. Craft Encounters is at pavement level so is accessible to those who find difficulty with steps. However, the door to the shop only allows entry from one side so wheelchair access would be impossible and anyway, the shop is very small inside and it's doubtful a wheelchair could be accommodated. As mentioned, the Post Office is housed in the same place so should your purchases include some of the many very attractive postcards of the breathtaking local scenery, all you have to do is take a few steps over to the PO counter and purchase your stamps while you're there. Craft Encounters is well worth a visit on your Isle of Skye holiday.
