They tested the old one and told me where I could find a new one just like it but they had a used one so I took it and have not been disappointed. By the way PGE paid for it! The owners of Right On are cordial, respectful, and take their time to explain the issues. Jim gives a brief guesstimate of what he thinks may be the problem. He's very up front by saying it could be more or less but he won't do anything without calling me with the diagnosis and reviewing the details of what he will fix. I dropped my laptop off on Thursday afternoon and it was ready the very next day. I have been working with Jim since 2012. I was away from the area last year and I took my machine to Geek Squad. I regret the whole experience. They had my laptop for 2 weeks, told me it would be about $90 and ended up over$300. They gave me a big folder with paper explaining what they fixed but I couldn't understand it. That's what I appreciate with Jim. Next time I won't sweetest the 40 min drive to Beaverton. In an unfamiliar town, I checked with Yelp.com to find a quick replacement. A phone call to one place quoted a price of $35. I knew I could get a much better deal on Amazon.com, but I wanted something today. Continuing my quest on Yelp.com, I saw that Computer Drive Connection was not far away, and they had at least one favorable review. My phone call was answered by Brad, and he knew what questions to ask to determine what I needed and if he had it. He did, and he quoted a price of $15! Thirty minutes later I was walking in the front door of Computer Drive Connection, and Brad greeted me first, saying "I'll bet you're looking for an adapter!" The adapter was in like-new condition, Brad let me test it on his bench, and the sale was closed. About two hours later I finally was able to pull myself away from browsing his shelves of merchandise and head home! Computer Drive Connection takes all sorts of unwanted, obsolete computers and electronics, cleans and tests the marketable devices, strips all useable parts from everything else, and places them on open shelves for sale. The prices are extremely reasonable, seductively so! I found it easy to come away with an armful of components that I've been wanting for quite awhile. Brad is extremely easy to talk with, very knowledgeable, but not at all pushy or impatient. I appreciated his informal, yet honest, approach to reselling older computer parts. The shelves are packed with stuff, in some instances perhaps too packed or inaccessible for someone with limited time to browse. You have to be willing to poke around in boxes and peer behind other stuff to find just what you need. But it is worth it! Complete computer systems, pre-loaded with XP, are anywhere from $100 to $300 or so. Brad will also custom build the precise system you need, using recycled and tested parts. Flat-screen LCD monitors are $20-35, depending upon size. They are all bench-tested and clean. I definitely plan to recommend Computer Drive Connection to anyone needing to repair or upgrade an older system, and I plan to return soon and pick up some monitors, and maybe even a new (to me) laptop! It's not just the price but his passion to help everyone get their computers fixed for a price much less than a new computer would cost. He spent days running programs and diagnostics then removing all kinds of malware and viruses I had acquired. I even found out that someone was using my computer to send out thousands of spam mail through a "back door" they had created. I also had a virus designed to steal account passwords. Jonathan cleaned all of this up. I believe places like big box stores purposely charge high repair prices so that you figure it is cheaper to purchase a new computer instead of getting yours fixed. I told Jonathan that I would share his talent and compassion with everyone which is why I am writing this review. Jonathan also told me he is very good with creating business related databases and web sites, and has done so for everything from mom and pop to multi million dollar businesses.
