Wow 15 out of 24 reviews are 5-star reviews. But I didn't get my 5-star experience from Amstill Roofing. The reason I contacted Amstill Roofing was because I saw a sign by my friend's house few days after Hurricane Beryl. A group of workers were on top of his neighbor's house replacing roof. I thought, wow, that's fast service. They are already working on the roof. I immediately stopped and took a picture of the advertising sign they posted on the curb. The day of the storm, I wasn't home. I was returning home to a completely peach-black town with no electricity on Monday July 8, 2024. That morning, a tree branch felt on my roof and punctured a hole then went through my ceiling. The tree branch caused some damages on the roof and chimney cover. The ceiling hole is less than 4 feet by 4 feet. I was desperately searching for roofing repairmen to get it patched. I called them about a week later and got an appointment for the following week. Customer service representative was very cordial. She gave me the scope of their service. At that time, I was clueless about Amstill Roofing. After the call, I started to read their website, it looks like a legit business with long history of experiences. On the day of appointment, the roofing consultant arrived right on time. He walked around to check on the damage and I sat down to listen to his 10-minute presentation. Basically telling me that they only use the highest quality roofing material and best in the industry. At that point, my roof repair was $6799 with tune up and chimney flashing. The price included communication with the insurance company on my behalf. Once he saw how much my insurance adjuster's summary, he immediately dropped the price to $3790. I asked him to submit it to my insurance company anyway. Few days later, my insurance adjuster told me that they wouldn't answer their request on itemized estimate. They want to understand the roofing company's pricing and how they charge for the repairs. That was on July 30th. So, I simply texted my guy next day, asking what "asphalt repair' means. Because my insurance company will not approve that charge, I need an explanation. Crickets... I haven't gotten a reply back. Today is August 10 and my roof still got a hole. At this point, I don't think I want to do business with Amstill Roofing anyway. read more

I scheduled a roof inspection with Amstill to get a second opinion after the buyer's inspector noted a possible issue. Their rep came out, inspected the roof, gave me an estimate in person, and everything seemed fine. But shortly after, I received a text saying they couldn't move forward with me because I needed a "state licensed roof inspector." Let me be clear: Texas does NOT have a statewide licensing requirement for roofers or "roof inspectors." This is confirmed by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT), which only offers voluntary licensing -- and even that isn't state-mandated. So Amstill's excuse wasn't just inaccurate -- it was completely misleading. I reached out for guidance on a possible roof repair and was left with no documentation, no help, and wasted time. On top of that, the estimate they gave me for a very minor repair was outrageously high. If you value your time, money, or basic honesty, go with literally any other roofing company. I guarantee you'll find better prices, better service, and a team that actually knows the law before making things up. What a joke. read more

So it has been a month now that the roof has been installed. Right after the storms blew through the next day Amstill sent out an email to have our roof inspected. Just wow that a company is being proactive on possible damages. To date our thermostat for the AC is set to 75 where in the past it was set to 73. Just the savings on that temperature is huge. Our electricity usage was 1000kWh less this month compared to last month. read more

Hired Amstill roofing to install some vents, they all leaked and had to come out 6 or 7 times to attempt to fix. There is still a leak and I've given up calling them back as its clear they can't fix the problem. Full details: I hired Amstill to move my furnace vent and garage attic vent so I could place solar panels where they were. I decided to hire a reputable roofing company instead of trying to do it myself. They came out in a marked van to quote and confirmed they could easily do all of the work, and they gave me a quote that seemed reasonable. The salesman was very knowledgeable. They also pointed out that my hot water heater chimney/vent probably leaks (It did, as it turns out) and they would fix that with some caulk when they do the work. They came out in an unmarked truck to do the work, and I wasn't sure it was even Amstill at first, as the man spoke poor English and just pointed at the roof. I let him up and he did do a very good job at patching the holes where the vents were now removed. You could not tell anything was ever there (Though, these locations would be covered with solar panels anyway). However, the installation of the furnace vent and the attic vent was very poor. Both the newly installed furnace vent and the garage vent leaked immediately, and they also never fixed the existing issue of the hot water heater vent leaking. The new attic vent was poorly spray painted while on the roof and did not look good. I called them back for them to address the leaks, and they just put a metric ton of brown caulk on everything they could see. I do not know why you would use brown caulk on a silver vent, as it looks terrible, White or clear would have been a better choice. When they left I was not pleased with the appearance, however I was happy that the leaks should be fixed. Next time it rained however, both leaked again. They came out again and put EVEN MORE CAULK on everything and left. At this point they are making a mess of my roof and I wish they had never came out to start with. I could have installed a leaky vent myself for a much lower cost. They came out yet again, said everything past was done wrong, and tried to fix the issue again, adding yet more brown caulk. The garage vent still leaked. I called them back and they got the caulk gun out. This is when I told them that I am not happy with the existing vent, clearly something must be wrong with it and I don't want even more caulk just randomly installed. At this point my gutters are scuffed up and my roof has been walked on by countless people getting to the vent, I feel like I should have never bothered to call them. The guy went down to Home Depot and bought a vent they had to install (I could have done this...) and they installed the new vent, slathered more caulk all around it and left. The vent still leaked. They came out again and put more caulk on the vent, and assured me it was fixed. It was not They came out a final time and decided to replace some shingles around the vent (My roof if from late 2018, the shingles are fine) and told me all my problems would be solved. They were not, the vent still leaks, though not as badly as it did to start with. Now I out around $900, and my roof looks worse than it did before I hired them, and my garage leaks. Avoid at all costs. I decided at this point that they are doing more damage to my roof than good, and are clearly not qualified to install a vent in a roof. While I am not happy at all, I am happy that I now know to avoid them, I can't imagine the issues I'd have getting an entire roof from them. read more

From the minute I called and talked with the Austin sales guy Trent Hair to the final clean up day, everyone has been outstanding! Prior to installation, Trent was with me on the call to the insurance company. He was here when their inspector came thru to make sure they saw everything that he did when he did an initial view of my roof. Picking the color of shingles was easy Then, he was here off and all the day of installation of the roof. The crew that was here were such hard workers, they got everything done almost in one day. (I have a steep roof so cleanup went into a second day.). My roof looks awesome! I believe it added value to my house as well because it turned out so good! read more

Highly recommended! The wife and I had a great experience with this company. We had researched a total of 5 different roofing companies before deciding on Amstill Stilley Roofing. It was the best decision we have made in a long time. When we met Sam, we were very impressed with his professionalism. Sam also worked with our insurance company in one appointment. He mentioned to us that the job will be done in one day. He was true to his word. The roofers were fast and efficient. These guys know their business and once again very professional. Amstill was quick to give me a quote for roof repairs. I signed a contract with them, then after about 10 days Amstill said they couldn't do the work because they couldn't match my shingles. I had another roofing company do the work, doing a great job, with existing materials. Amstill's installer never came out to look at the job. My opinion is they would much rather install more profitable new roofs than make less-profitable roof repairs. Don't use Amstill for repair work! Ron H. read more

Short Review: All in all -- they're just "OK" as the 3 stars suggests (positive for professionalism; negative for the higher pricing; Neutral for the mediocre customer service). I think the 4.5 stars is a little overstated, as they are not much different than any other contractor. The extra upfront charge should be backed by a level of quality/excellence/customer service, which I did not get. Eh, it's part of home ownership, right? Dealing with contractors. Long Review: I had a roof leak and had gone on Yelp to request a few quotes. A few contractors got back to me and gave me a quote for the work. Amstill's pricing came out slightly higher (couple hundred dollars), and they quoted me an additional optional $725 to reseal/replace all of my flashing on the roof as a preventative measure. I signed a contract with Amstill for the level of professionalism they presented and didn't haggle anything. With that I also paid them extra to reseal all of my flashing per their recommendation. I figured since they're already up there, I might as well have them do the extra preventative work. They did the work -- I paid them. Everything went as expected -- their contractor came out and sealed my leak. After 5 days of raining here in downtown Houston during Harvey (about 5 months after repair), I noticed a water spot on my wall. I had initially assumed it was a leaking shingle since I just sealed the flashing. It took me a while, but I eventually found the small leak of water dripping down the side of the pipe a few weeks after Harvey. I had contacted Amstill regarding the leak from the flashing (which I had paid extra to reseal; It was from one of the ones they worked on). They had their contractor come out and take a look at it from inside. They called me back the following Monday and quoted me $375 for them to come back another day and repair it claiming it was storm damage. They claimed it was a new leak (ignoring that they touched it during preventative maintenance.) I requested to speak to Sam, but instead an admin called me back to tell me he was busy, they spoke, and that the pricing is that -- take it or leave it. I ended up paying the $375. It's not a lot, but it's the principle of customer service and guaranteeing your work. It's arguable that it might not have leaked had they not initially touched it and that maybe the leak was there when they completed the work, but it had not surfaced until enough water had collected inside to damage the wall. They warrant their work for 45 days (stated on the contract; I asked for 90 days like in some reviews, but no go) which is not quite enough time to really diagnose their workmanship or for a failure to reveal itself (unless you climb up to your roof and then hose it down; could fix your own roof at that point). The mantra of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rings true in my case. I saw a reply to one of Amstill's review suggesting a reviewer's roof was ready for bad weather... can you back that? I was hoping they'd go above and beyond their competitors since they charge a little more and I invested a little extra for preventative service, but instead they decided they could make a few dollars more. While I picked Amstill due to their level of professionalism, I would say that's the only edge they have over their competitor. You're paying a little bit extra for the professionalism, but the overall care/customer service is just about the same as any. read more

I had them come to my home to check out my roof. I was presented with a quote of $569.00 for three missing shingles. Once I asked why it was so expensive and what about the military discount it went down to $375.00 to replace only (3) shingles. I guess they are charging $100.00 per shingle. I hired this company to do a complete repair on our roof in 2017. 2 years later the same repair has be redone with same areas leaking on the roof. I paid for top recommended materials. I called them to come out and they said they no longer service 3-story buildings. They were quite dismissive. I got another company to come in to inspect and provide a quote which basically means I have to pay for same repair only 2 years later. I do not recommend this company and will never call them again even for my 2-story homes. read more

Amstill stood out as an ethical and honest company from the first time I spoke with them until after the job was completed. They asked me what I wanted, committed to meeting my expectations, and made good on those commitments, some of which went above and beyond what a standard roof install entailed. We had a major hailstorm and our area was almost immediately flooded with roofing contractors that wanted our business. I spoke with several of them before Sam approached me and introduced himself. It was very apparent that he stood out from the rest of the solicitors in the manner he presented himself and the way Amstill does business, so I signed a service agreement with them because it was clear they were the right people to get my job done. Within days, other roofers came by, some of which asked me to back out of my signed contract because they would "treat me better." The first thing that came to my mind is that if the company asking me to be unethical and break my deal is that casual about doing so, where else are they going to be unethical? I would be kept up at night every time we had a storm wondering if a corner was cut or something wasn't done right. I don't have to worry about that now. Amstill took care of ALL interactions with my insurance company, leaving me to worry about things like what color shingle I wanted while they worked out the details in bringing the insurance company's initial lowball offer up to what it actually takes to replace a roof in the proper manner. Amstill demonstrated a real commitment to safety in their proposal, including the fact that anyone on the roof had to have an OSHA compliant harness and be tied off to prevent falls. Lots of roofs have been replaced lately here, and I've watched the crews that did the work - most of them were not tied off. I don't want to risk someone's life just to put a roof on my home - it's just not worth it. Their entire crew, with Jose at the lead, was courteous, committed to doing the job right, took care of protecting my property, and were done with almost 4600 square feet of shingles, including an immaculate job of cleaning up, in one day. They even sent someone out the next day to be sure there wasn't a single nail, piece of roofing scrap, or sign they had ever been there! I am not happy with this company. Just a few months before Harvey, I got leaks and broken shingles but the insurance company did not want to pay for it. They literally said that I need to wait for the next hurricane to come and then file a claim again. That is exactly what I did. After hurricane Harvey, I got more broken shingles and additional leaks. I reached out to Amstill because of the many positive review. I thought they can help me. The person who came over visually checked my roof from the ground and assured me that he can get my whole roof fixed and that he has done this a lot of times. Even saying that he has gotten houses new roof paid for by the insurance with damages way less than mine. He asked that I have him come the day the insurance adjuster comes so that they can inspect my roof at the same time. But he did not arrive on time. The adjuster was done looking on my roof when he arrived. He then told me that we can dispute the claim if the insurance would not pay for it again. Lo and behold, the insurance company did not want to pay for it again. So I sent the report to the Amstill representative. After 2 months, he finally told me that he had spoken with TWIA but is not able to dispute it and can not do anything about it. I was so frustrated. This is the second roofing company that assured me and got my hopes high in a similar manner. The bottom line is, I was made to believe that they can help me get a new roof paid for by the insurance and that they have helped many homeowners with the same situation as me. But in the end this company was unable to deliver. I will try to get another company after the next high wind. read more

Update: i have found a vent cover with a gap and looks loose, and I see light coming in. I have contacted the company, and will change my rating once i see how promptly they respond to my request to fix or correct the problem. This is a cover that was removed and reinstalled by the company when the roof was replaced. There was zero light coming in before the roof work. The work is supposed to be under warranty. This is where the company will show its commitment to its work and its customers. Initially we had rain-related backlog delays, but finally a Sunny day came! Amstill was very professional. Sam came to my home at a time convenient to me with actual samples of product. I wanted to consider going with a different shingle style and the samples really helped. The other 3 - 4 companies that I interviewed brought pamphlets - little pictures, not actual samples! He also was very helpful and actually listened to my opinions re: number and location of soffit vents that I wanted to add. In my considerable experience with contractors, rarely do they care what a female homeowner things or wants. Sam and Amstilley were an exception and really listened and honored my decisions. I selected an upgrade shingle and 5 soffit vents and it all looks great. Their crew worked so hard and was very polite. They did a great job of protecting my landscaping and really cleaned up the mess. Nice change from the last roofing job I had done. read more

This company has been harassing me to remove my negative Yelp review since last November. They have sent me certified letters, emails, and phone calls, all threatening me to remove my negative review of their service and their company. This is not only a bad company due to their extremely poor customer service, but they believe in harassing and bullying their customers with legal Threats For Several Months Following. They were Paid In Full last year, yet they are still hounding me about the review. They have a horrible management as explained in my earlier review. The owners, in my opinion, do Not care to work with the customers, they seem to only want payment, and their actions shows that they are Bullies who believe in Attorneys rather than one on one conversations with their customers. Yelp has Laws against this type of harassment and Bullying by companies to intimidate the customers to Remove their reviews. Also the 1st Amendment has Laws against gagging someone of their right to Freedom of Speech and Beliefs! It has been Six (6) months since I hired them and they are still Harassing, Intimidating, and Bullying me into removing my 2017 review! Everything I wrote in my 2017 review has been True to my knowledge and True to my beliefs! I did Not make up anything. Everything I complained about is my Honest Opinion per the logical sequence of events that occured that Same Afternoon since your contractors left my property. I will be making a complaint to YELP and the Better Business Bureau regarding your threats, bullying, and hounding me for the last 6 Months!!! STOP HARASSING ME for my True Opinions, but Negative review of your Company!!!! This has caused me much Mental Stress and Time dealing with your hounding these past several months! I highly recommend Amstill Corporation. They just completed our roof yesterday and we couldn't be happier. Sam sat down with us at the beginning of the process and explained the entire procedure in detail. He was very patient and took the time to answer our questions. The morning of the job an entire team of men showed up. Frank, the owner, dropped in several times to oversee the process. We have a very large and steep roof so we were told it would probably be a 3 day job. They completed it in 2! Jose came in the attic twice to make sure everything was done properly. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the area around the house and they put everything back where it was before. This is a top-notch company that is very professional and reliable. Following heavy rain and hail storms in May-June, we called Amstil-Stilley Roofing (http://www.amstill.com/), highly recommended by several of our neighbors. Family-owned business in operation since 1974. Called in the morning, rep (Sam Stilley) came that afternoon. Thorough explanation of their process, materials, expectations, etc. Gave us addresses in our neighborhood where roofs were completed or in the process. Once we scheduled ins adjuster, Sam was here to walk the roof with the adjuster. True to their word, the roof was scheduled within 3 weeks after contract signed (high volume after the rains). Very professional. The day before roof to be done, delivered roofing materials and set truck/dumpster in driveway. 6-8 roofers began arriving by 6:30 am the next day and started work by 7 am (temps nearing 100 degrees that day) working almost non-stop until completion later that afternoon. Resulting roof is beautiful and complements the brick and paint of our home. Thorough clean up around perimeter of home, along flower beds, patio, sidewalks, driveway, etc. In addition to simple sweeping, used magnet-sweeper to pick up any metal debris in the yard. Frank (owner) and Sam came by at different times to check on their work that day. Excellent results. Pleasant and professional team of roofers. Highly recommend them as an honest, reliable and first-rate company to work with. They warranty their work and, unlike other roofing companies, they will be there for any future maintenance issues. read more
