Amsterdam beer is a common beer in Ontario. It orginated from Ontario and is like the mass production stuff if you ask me. I don't consider it as craft beer but I do have to say it is good beer. I have had Amsterdam beer at other restaurants and other pubs and usually it would be the cheapest beer (probably because it is a local beer). I got one of their signature can of beer the Indian Pale Ale: Boneshaker for B. B is a fan of beer and he loves trying beer from other places. Amsterdam Boneshaker is definitely better than all the IPA that you can find in BC locally and definitely better than many IPA (this is coming from someone who doesn't really like IPA). B said it has a floral flavor on top of the usual IPA taste and it is not that hoppy. So basically Amsterdam Beer has more to offer or a step up than the usual. It is not the best beer but still some pretty good beer they got brewing here. We had the Blonde before and we found it ok. It was not a bad beer but it was pretty average. Note that the Blonde is usually the discounted beer at happy hours at some restuarants or pub. We still need to try the other flavors. read more

I went to the Brewery as part of the Old Toronto Beer Tour as this was our last stop on a rainy Saturday. Unfortunately, there was no tour of the facility, as the reason being that Amsterdam Brewery only does 2 tours for day and the time does not work with the OTBT and their schedule. The brewery is located in Leaside and they have a store at the front where you can purchase souvenirs and refreshments. Right beside, they have a huge room where the bar along with the big screen TVs are located. The rooms has a few tables along with plastic chairs suited for some beer tasting. Our guide from the OTBT, Noah, played the role of bartender and server bringing us around 6-7 different types of Amsterdam beers. The most memorable one for me was Fracture. The bar does not serve food and it's mainly their beer. Please do not confuse this location to the pub located in Harbourfront. I wish the tour of the facility could be part of the OTBT, as besides tasting their beers, there wasn't anything else to do at this location. read more

We asked about some of the food and she was not sure, she actually checked wit the kitchen and told us what we could eat. Very cool if you ask me, when a place is crazy busy and the server made an extra trip instead of blowing us off. My salmon caesar was decent, it could have used some more toppings such as olives and tomatoes. It consisted of romaine and salmon. the salmon was cooked about medium. It was a tasty piece of salmon. it seems like it is difficult to find bad salmon in Canada. This place doesn't disappoint. The brisket is dynamite and served on a sizzling skillet with a light bbq sauce.... brussel sprout vegetable side is incredible - crispy fried with goat cheese. Great beers, pasta is very well prepared with great ingredients (still not College Street), but great overall quality within walking distance. Will return another 500X if it stays this consistent. Someone had my last review removed for violating Terms of Service somehow, but I'm determined that this review be known, so here's an extra careful polite version. I went in search of a micro-brewery in Toronto and stumbled into this place. I immediately got excited seeing all the beers and tasting station. Unfortunately this experience was ruined by an extremely rude person with a handlebar moustache who worked there on a Sunday. I merely mention this for your own benefit, so that you can avoid being talked down to or shouted at. He sarcastically refused to answer questions about the beer and shouted at us when we asked to sample three beers-- from the area that said "FREE SAMPLES". I was so incensed that I just grabbed a 12-pack and left. I regret that, because I never should have given this business my money in exchange for being so rude. I also tried to contact the business and complain but they couldn't be bothered to get back to me. Also, the beer was overpriced and didn't taste very good. read more

If you've run out of beer they will fix you up to 11pm most nights even holidays! They make beer that is far superior to any of the mega-brewery stuff and if you buy a "25-pack" (a 24 with an extra bottle tossed in for good measure) It's even cheaper than the "premium" beers from the good ol' mega brewers that offered Canadians swill (with no good choices) for so many years. (And continue to do so at our major sporting venues). The 25-pack however is sometimes a bit of a gamble. They use it to clear out any overage in production. Except of course for the "blonde" which is available in the 25-pack at the special price ALWAYS. They do have delightful and interesting seasonal special beers that are indeed only there for a very very limited time. (The run of Spring Bock sometimes only lasts a few days) The price was $29.95 for the 25 for many years and now it's $32.95... But still, that's a steal when you want tasty beer at a reasonable price... a VERY reasonable price. Downsides: it's hard to walk home with a 25-pack. Your arms will get very tired. read more

One of the best places to go if you like beer that's made in house. Great food, great customer service and most importantly a nice reasonable price meal for what your getting. Perks is your by the water and have a nice view of centre island and also very close to the cn and Rogers centre. Definitely will recommend. Best dishes I would say there spinach dip with pita very good choice, also there fish and chips and lastly there burgers and sandwiches. Every beer is recommended with what kind of food your getting so your satisfied. There Bbq pizza I wouldn't recommend it's not the greatest it don't taste good for my liking but that place it self it's not bad at all and everything else is good, clean. I really just love this place because it's retail store is open at odd hours and on LONG WEEKENDS when you are desperate for beer but the LCBO is closed. I got mine of Thanksgiving Monday. Someone from Yelp needs to sort out the reviews on this place -- there are a *LOT* of reviews for the restaurant, which is in a completely different part of town. This is the brewery -- they don't serve food here, unless you consider beer to be a food all on its own. I haven't been to a ton of breweries in Toronto so far, but this one was definitely one of my favorite brewery tours, although they can be a tiny bit better on announcing when they start. It's pretty busy on a Saturday -- there are a lot of beer tour groups making the rounds. We were just 3 people on our own, and we had arrived a little early. So, we hung out in the store (because the bar was really crowded with the aforementioned group) and waited. Like I said, we missed the announcement. The bar was suddenly empty. We let the guy behind the bar know, and he was nice enough to take us inside and over to where the tour giver was. The tour giver was awesome -- funny, really knowledgeable about their product, and actually taught me a few new things, like the date coding on kegs and cases. They showed us a little bit of their new space as well -- things are growing for Amsterdam! Afterwards, we got to have free samples, and they were quite generous with their pours. I'm really glad we stopped for lunch before we stopped here! In the bar area, they also have some ping pong and foosball tables, for something to do while you're there. They have a lot of great merchandise in their store, including some rare bottles for purchase. If you want to try good Toronto beer, make sure you stop by this place for a tour and tasting! read more

I was terrified when this microbrewery got too big for its downtown location at King and Portland and said it was moving. It was placed collinearly between my workplace at the time and my home, affording me the ability to get beer uninterruptedly on my way home after a hard days work. I was also concerned that if they went larger, we'd miss out on the craft-brew taste that I'd grown to love. Thankfully that's not the case. The new location on Bathurst just north of Lakeshore is a much larger variation on the old theme: Make good beer and make it affordable. They still do just that. Having lost the restaurant that they had at the King Street location, they are able now to focus solely on the beer. The larger venue has afforded them the ability to make more and get a larger circulation of their product. Thankfully as well, the taste and flavour of the beer has not suffered in the least, and the beers taste just as they did when I swung by looking for some liquid happiness after being mauled by the office. The location is not all bad for me either now as it's on the way to and from my favourite grocery store, so now I'm able to get cases of beer instead of sixes. Make sure you try the 25 bottles for $29.95 special that they run. There are two or three different types that are available in 25-packs so check the chalkboard when you go in. It's a great way to get great tasting beer that's competitive with the buck-a-beer breweries. So how do they serve up 25 beers in a box? They take a regular case of 24 and stuff it in the top. While visiting Toronto for the weekend, we wanted to hit up one of the breweries. We called and made a reservation for the 6pm tasting at Amsterdam and are so glad we did! We were early and they let us into the 5pm tasting. CHRIS was very witty and knowledgable without being boring. We got to taste plenty of each beer and ended up hanging around after our tasting was over. Chris was super nice and kept topping us off with our favorite beers. We stopped at Steam Whistle right before heading to Amsterdam. SW was nice but we liked the laid back atmosphere of Amsterdam much better. Good food but the service is very disorganized. We were seated quickly but sat and sat for almost 15 minutes without anyone coming to our table. We finally had to flag down a server and a hostess and they had to find a waiter to sign to our table. The server was good and the food was great, but very disorganized overall. I recently came to Amsterdam brewery on a Saturday for one of their free tours and tastings (they do this every Saturday from 1-5pm). Although my visit started off sluggish by the time it was over I was glad I made the trip. My friend and I walked in at around 345pm on a Saturday and immediately the whole atmosphere seemed confused. Nobody was there to greet us and tell us when the next tour was or where we would even start the tour. I finally had to walk in to the retail store to ask and was told to speak with one of the bartenders; I spoke with the bartender and was told a tour would start in 15 minutes. My friend and I ended up waiting for around a half hour for the tour to start, this seemed unorganized to say the least. As soon as our tour started our visit immediately got better. A group of about 15 of us were taken to the back of the brewery, shown all the brewing equipment and taken through the brewing process from start to finish. It was cool to see the steps of the brewing process; our guide was very knowledgeable and did his best to keep the group engaged. Once the tour finished our group took a seat at the bar and pitchers of each of their beers were passed around for us to have a little sample. Their spring bock, Boneshaker IPA, and 416 wheat beer were the best of the bunch (I also enjoyed their raspberry wheat, but my friend didn't). Everyone is given a small sampling cup to fill up, our tour guide made sure there as enough beer for everyone to get a taste and even encouraged us to have more than one sample (If you like a particular beer ask them for more and they will oblige). The tasting definitely salvaged our trip. Once the tasting was done people were encouraged to sit at the tables near the bar and hang out with some more free beer, nobody was rushed out or told to leave. The place itself is in a bit of an industrial area. The bar area is beautiful with lots of natural wood, aging barrels lined up on one wall, tall ceiling and windows that provide plenty of natural light. I could definitely hang out in this space for hours on end. They do have a small retail store that is open late so if you are in need of beer and your local beer store is closed you know where to come. Their retail location offers a deal of 25 bottles for $32 which is a great for some local craft beer. All in all I enjoyed my visit to Amsterdam brewing; the staff was very friendly and accommodating although a little more organization would work to their benefit. Next time I will show up early for a tour and hang out a little longer with some free beer :-). read more

I used to love this place but it seems to have jumped the shark. It's still got a great location and good hours (thus the three stars). The beer seems to be a bit too expensive for what you get and there's a lot of competition now for southern Ontario microbreweries. Perhaps they are a victim of their own success or have failed to innovate but I was not impressed by any of the selections in my visit last week. I can't truthfully say that I'd prefer Amsterdam to any other microbrewery. My wife still loves the Framboise though and Amsterdam is the only one who makes something like it. read more

For the love of beer these guys have a wonderful facility. Several large brewing tanks for ales and lagers, nice bottling line, informative tours. Does all that translate into tasty beer? Sort of. Amsterdam isn't the worst of the local breweries nor is it the best, it sits somewhere in the middle and is definitely oriented to a mass consumer. Most beers taste pretty similar and vary slightly by the amount of alcohol and wheat in them. There weren't any beers that I felt the urge to purchase after the tasting, but the tour was definitely nice and the location is convenient to city people. read more

Everything about this place is great. If you go to do a free tasting, the guy will often leave you alone and go outside and smoke. You can do a lot of tasting in 10 minutes. Also, 25 beers for $29 is a fantastic deal. Their regular beers are good, and they often have seasonal flavors to try. Last time I was there, they had an Octoberfest beer, which I would not drink, but it was amazing to braise sausage in. read more

Went for the free beer tasting and tour on Saturday afternoon, I believe its 11-5 or something like that. Its definitely over at 5pm. The staff there is extremely friendly, and they'll pour you some free beer while you wait for the tour to start. The tour is pretty decent... They go through the entire process of making the beer, and the person giving the tour was able to ask all of the questions we had. Other than seeing all of the tanks, and tubes, you see the packaging equipment, and the cold storage room. After the tour, the group lines up at the bar and tries the various brews they have on tap. They were not cheap about the beer at all... I honestly walked away drinking more beer than I had wanted, but they needed to finish pitchers off so we could get on to the next kind. Great thing to do with a group of friends! Currently they do not serve food, but if they get enough support they are hoping to. And to sell people pints. etc. Only downfall is the location.
