Brisket dinner
Pamela R.

I'm a regular at this location and this place never disappoints. I came during winterlicious and although it was very hard for me not to order my usual meal, it was definitely not a disappointment to have tried something from their winterlicious menu. I started with the Applewood smoked tomato soup with roasted celery root, elbow macaroni and cheddar crusted croutons. Although, I'm not a fan of tomato soup, this soup was a party in my mouth. The other item were a salmon dish, pulled beef burger and chocolate torte which were all amazing. The service here is exceptional and super friendly.

I can't tell you how many times I've driven past this spot and have always thought it looked so cool from the outside. Inside, it's a nice, spacious, elevated version of your average pub. We were there for a birthday and had a group of 13 at our table. Service was actually really good which with big groups is often a miss. I wish I remembered our server's name because she was awesome (she looks like Fiona from the show Shameless, lol). She was super friendly and attentive. To eat, I got the prosciutto and arugula pizza was was good but nothing out of this world. Yam frites were delicious and arrived nice and hot. The calamari I could've done without (just wasn't the tastiest). I tasted the Thai green curry chicken which I really did not like (had a strong lemon taste). Overall, the food wasn't my favourite. Would I come back? Probably wouldn't be my first (or second) choice but I think this would be a good spot for game night.

Spinach & artichoke dip ($13) + Fish Tacos ($13-$14)

As much as I always love Amsterdam Brewhouse by harbourfront, this location is also a new favourite of mine. Located uptown North York on Laird. The only flaw I see in Amsterdam is their high pricing for smaller portions. I was disappointed with the Sangria pitcher because it lacked the flavour of wine, seemed as if there was barely any and was quite expensive. Aside from that, I recommend the Spinach and Artichoke dip for shareables because you get more for your money. Plus it tasted great! Service was good, decorations and ambience was a great vibe for an evening visit.

I had dinner here last night and it was very good. I'd been to the location downtown a few times, but this was my first visit to this location. My friend and I each had a beer flight and we enjoyed all of the selections. The raspberry beer was the rotating option and although I was kind of expecting a pink beer, it did have a nice, mild raspberry flavour. I had the fajitas and my friend had the brisket dinner. I was eyeing up the Brussels sprouts and when I saw the table next to us get an order, I immediately wished I had ordered them, too. My friend got a small side of them with his dinner so I did get to at least taste them. I will definitely order these next time. I loved the crispy charred bits! My fajitas were good, but I was expecting a sizzling plate to arrive. Not a big deal. The sides were good, but the salsa was a weird texture. Loved the fresh guacamole! Our server was really good, so we didn't have to ask for anything; she already brought everything we needed. Will definitely return.

Warm, cozy, yet sophisticated feel. There's an open fire going in the middle of the restaurant, plenty of TV's everywhere for various sports games on (but no MMA that night), and old wooden wine barrels for that old, classic look. The food at Amsterdam Barrel House is pretty favourful, with a distinct taste. No complaints from the entire party of 8. Well maybe a bit on the saltier end, but I thought it was fine. They also have a sampler / flight, for a variety of beers.

This place has a great atmosphere. The service was pretty good too, although we did have to ask for a few things twice - extra cutlery and beer. It wasn't THAT busy. I thought the food was pretty tasty. We ordered a margherita pizza, parmesan fries and smoked brisket dinner. The fries were crispy, but a bit over done with oil. But it was still super tasty. The margherita pizza was yummy - I really enjoyed it. My favourite part of the beef brisket dinner was the brussel sprouts and the cornbread. Both were delicious. I was impressed with the food overall. I went to the other location at the Harbourfront today and I didn't like it as much as this one. I will definitely be returning here in the future.

My girlfriend and I went here for lunch. There were only 4 tables occupied in the patio and it was very quiet during our visit. It just took awhile before the server came to take our orders - 3/5 rating there! The food we ordered were perfect! I love bar food or anything deep fried, and Amsterdam brewhouse did a good job! I love love love beer. They have a variety to choose from. It was just too bad that I knocked out after drinking the five drinks in front of me. I could have stayed longer ahaha!

Buffalo Chicken Sandwich

Lives up to the description Gastro-Pub. I was a little skeptical when my boyfriend suggested we grab a bite here after running some errands in the area - as I assumed it was a pretty generic big box brew pub. I am happy to report how wrong I was! We had fish and chips and a buffalo chicken sandwich. Fish and chips were perfect, enjoyed the hint of horseradish in the the tartar sauce and love that they described them in the menu as "second best in leaside", as a nod to the venerable Olde York Fish & Chips across the street. The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was so yummy, nice heat level. Will definitely be coming back

Stale chips and 3 dips

It pains me to write this review. I'm a huge fan of Amsterdam products and was really looking forward to visiting this location and loving it. I'm afraid I did not. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio and were quickly greeted by our server and brought menu's. I was so excited to get a flight and sample some beer that I may not have had and was shocked to find out that they ONLY have preset flights. Yup, you are not able to choose what you want. It just so happened that the 4 beers I wanted to try were in 4 different presets and our server wasn't going to budge on that. Ive been to quite a few breweries and have never encountered this. Massive disappointment. We were just going to have a snack so ordered an appetizer of 3 different dips that came with tortilla chips. When it came the chips were sooo stale. Unbelievably stale. Inedible. Rarely do I send back food but this was unacceptable. When we told our server, another server was standing close and chimed in to tell us that she had them the previous night and thought they were pretty stale. Ummmm, and they're still being served to customers?? We ordered something else but the experience was ruined at that point. I will still continue to purchase Amsterdam products but will not be returning to one of their restaurants.

Came here for a family birthday dinner. Joe took care of us and gave us superb service. Menu offered a wide range of selections from salad bowls, pizza, hamburgers, fish and chips, ribs, smoke brisket, chicken and salmon. Nice to have the beer pairing right beside each menu item. We chose salmon dinner came with asparagus and quinoa , the smoked brisket hamburger ( came with 2 patties) and fries. The dining room upstairs had a outdoor patio as well there was a outdoor patio on the main floor. Children friendly and a sports bar with a TV playing a hockey game on the night we were there. Nice sotting area. The interiors decoration is elegant and makes you feels relaxed as you stepped in. First greeted by the usher, then the cheerful waitress. She explained the beer menu clearly to us and gave me some recommendations about the food order. I ordered a flight of four hoppy beers, an order of buffalo chicken wings and a brisket dinner. Buffalo Wings: very spicy. The beer certainly is able to reduce the heat. They are good partners. Brisket Dinner: it comes with a piece of corn bread, a small side dish of beans, a small side dish of coleslaw, and a small side dish of sprouts. I really like the corn bread, the beans taste good as well, I could taste honey in it, and so as the sprouts cooked with bacon bits but I feel that the coleslaw can add a bit more apple cider vinegar or more taste added to it. The briskets are tender and tastes good. Slightly sweet. I just hope that I could have a roll to eat with. But they only have buns (those hamburger buns). Well, a bit disappointed. But overall, an excellent experience here.

Winterlicious - Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich
Paul E.

Went here for Winterlicious at Lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had never been here before but it's a great space. Very clean and modern and inviting. We also brought our 8.5 month old and they seem fairly family friendly at least at lunch. They even had Rusty Rivets playing on one of the TVs. I had the tomato soup to start which was tasty. My wife had the Cesar salad which also was good. Not overly dressed, good amount of parm. Though the salad with a bit tiny for a salad. For the entree my wife had the Philly cheesesteak which she was super into. I had a bite or two. It had a great shredded texture on a soft bun. I had the lemon chicken schnitzel that appears on their regular menu. It was tasty for sure. I really enjoyed s the rapini on it. For dessert we had the brownie overload and it was good too. All around a great meal. I'd come back here for sure.

I have been to Amsterdam Barrel House twice. The first time I went the service was amazing. The staff were helpful land letting us know which items were the best to try out. The food tasted soo good!!! The second time I went, that's wasn't the case. They seem to have some sort of office/holiday party in the main bar area when entering. There was no hostess nor waitress in sight for more than 10-15 mins. There was no sign saying there restaurant was close. Finally, one of the staff finally came and sat us to a table beside the holiday office party which I didn't like because I could hear any conversation I had with my friends; and again why would you place us beside a loud office holiday party. Food: I would say the appetizer is better than the main, yet they cost pretty much the same. The best food here is the Buffalo Cauliflower, Wonton Nacho, Yam Fries, sweet chilli chicken. The Ontario brisket cheese burger was okay, it tasted very dry. The Korean pulled pork tacos and sandwich was awful the second time around. They didn't have any sort of sauce on it. It tasted like water down slaw and very soggy pork and the whole thing was a mess. I would come back again for the appetizer but the service really turn me off so I'm not too sure if I would return.

Smashing good brunch?…read more Smash Kitchen has been on our list to visit for a while till we finally had the opportunity. For more than a dozen years, this Markham spot has been known for good flavors and portions. The weekend brunch menu from 10am - 2:45pm had an assortment of creative dishes. We opted for their LA mac & cheese ($25) with a saucy cheese blend textured by herb crumbles. The soft shell crab benedict ($24) looked irresistible with two nicely poached eggs beside crab drizzled with maple buffalo hot sauce. While it came with no sides, bites of the whole fried soft shell crab on brioche toast were scrumptious. The inside of this restaurant is cavernous, featuring even a private room and patio. It's much larger than the dated plaza entrance would indicate. Staff were generally active at the tables, even delivering colour sheets to young ones. Skip it or hit it? It was a long time coming but brunch here didn't disappoint. Hit it!

If you want proteins (like Butter Chicken, Bacon Daddy, Crispy Chicke, Jerk Chicken) on the poutine, you pay and extra $3.49, $5.49, and $6.49, depending on the size. Note that these prices are not listed on the menu; I told them to list the additional charges there, and they promised to do so. We ordered the following: 1. Classic Poutine (small $6.99). 2. Butter Chicken Poutine (small $10.48). My son ate the entire Classic Poutine. He loved it! I asked for the Butter Chicken not to be covered until after I took photos. The chef made it look prettier with some fries sticking out around the circumference of the round container. Not only did it look more presentable, but it also allowed me to try the fries on its own, after I took my time taking photos and videos. The fries where not soaked in the butter chicken sauce so I could actually taste the excellent quality of the fries; they were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, and best of all, not greasy! The chicken were diced into small pieces. The sauce was excellent. I must come back to try their wraps (like Sweet Thai Chicken and Peri-Peri) and their burgers (like Smash and Italian Sausage). There are also daily combo specials. These provide decent savings. For example, for Friday's special, if you bought them individually, it would cost $16.48, but the combo costs $11.99. We also ordered the jalapeño cheddar cornbread and collard greens. Unfortunately, both the brisket and ribs wasn't tender enough to have a melt in your mouth experience. It was a bit dry which was unfortunate since the flavors were delicious. The pulled pork & sausage was good with the fried chicken being our favorite out of the meats. Both sides were fantastic! The meat platter was half covering our plates... while the table for 4 beside us sat empty for the entire time.
