I came here with some friends after a quick trip to a nearby lavender farm for brunch. The restaurant is inside a cute house with lots of homey details. I ordered the schnitzel and was surprised with the size of it. The portion size was massive and very flavourful. Our brunch also came with very fresh biscuits and muffins and my schnitzel was also accompanied by a salad. I recommend booking a reservation as this place fills up very quickly.

During our tour of the area near Hockley Road, we came across this small restaurant on Violet Hill. I believe they are co-owed with the small gift shop across from them (Granny Taught Us How). I love cute, unique places with character, and this is definitely one of them. It's inside an old School House, everything inside is wooden, and the place is decorated with twine, birds, old style knick knacks. It takes you into another world, and I like that kind of experience. We came around 3pm, and they serve Afternoon Tea from 2-4pm (they also have Brunch, Lunch and Dinner - check the website). It all looked very reasonably priced, and I would want to come back and try. Afternoon tea for $6.50 a person, you get a pot of tea, and a basket of sweet potato muffins and hot biscuits, piping hot, with Strawberry preserves, whipped cream, and whipped butter. I couldn't help but go off my diet and eat it all, and it was worth it! (except for the fact my boyfriend pointed out that the point of tea, is to take your time and munch, while chatting, not scarfing everything down like I did). The place is small, fits about 50 people maybe. Seems also like a nice venue to rent out for a small special event. At the back they have a nice garden with some sculptures and photo opportunity. It's really romantic, and would love to have dinner here sometime. It's a perfect place to stop by and have something different after a hike.

Five star all the way! What a beautiful and rustic experience. This historic school house has been converted into a fine dining restaurant. The ambiance is superb, feast your eyes while tantalizing your pallet. We were there the family and I on Mother's Day this year. We enjoyed a wonderful brunch. My wife and I started with the smoked wild mushroom soup, and while we savouring our soup, our daughter tried some and to our surprise she wanted a bowl of her own. ( she typically cannot stand mushrooms)

We were greeted at the front by the hostess and seated by our waiter. The patio set up was stunning and since it was snowing outside the fireplace warmed up the space. We came in at about 4pm which was on the tail end of lunch but beginning of dinner, so we were able to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the prime rib sandwich with lobster bisque soup, Caesar salad and miso glazed bone marrow. We were very disappointed when the bone marrow came out, we had thought it would be hot and easily spreadable but we were sadly mistaken. It was topped with a shrimp ceviche, caviar and micro greens. I felt the dish was two separate items smashed into one - the bone marrow was cold and chunky, tasting like you were eating chunks of fat mixed with the shrimp. We were interested in the Caesar salad because the waiter mentioned it was popular dish - but when this all came out, it looked & tasted like a regular salad. The prime rib sandwich wasn't anything spectacular and the lobster bisque tasted watered down. We finished off our meal with a London fog cream brulee which was delicious and a pistachio cheesecake. Overall we weren't fans of the food but we fell in love with the stunning decor & atmosphere.

Service is very good but can be slow on weekends with the place slammed. Highly recommend for that special person. Or if you are up for a great meal..

June 22/2025: Been to this restaurant a couple of times before but I thought I'd update the review…read more This place has improved quite a bit. My food was excellent. Had the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner. Came with a side Greek salad (which was huge, large enough for two), meal came with a full chicken skewer, roasted potatoes & rice. The food was delicious, moist potatoes, tender chicken & was nice & hot with a side of tzatziki. Very tasty. Didn't think I'd eat the whole meal but I did! This is a real family restaurant with a casual ambiance & a fair amount of seating. The service was very fast & our server was very friendly. This is definitely a do-over!

Johns restaurant used to be a great place to go for breakfast and dinner. Now it is not. I have not…read morereturned in over a few years because they do not have a menu for older customers - seniors, and their food portions are huge but that doesn't mean quality. I find most of the waitress staff over the past few years to be very snippy and it feels like the customer has to cater to their needs other than the opposite. The manager Vicky is only there to take your offer and money and never returns to ask how your meal is or just to ask if you need anything else. She turns on the charm when it is time for the tip. We have had a few incidents with Vicky that I don't want to go into. This can really turn a customer off from going for a nice breakfast or night out. Unfortunately the amount of family restaurants that are not Indian or cultural in Brampton are few and far between. If Johns read these reviews and sorted things out they could be packed for breakfasts and dinner like they used to be in the past.
