First, I got a great door that I'm ultimately happy with, but that credit goes to the manufacturer. Working with AMS has been difficult. The original install day came and went without a phone call and when I did call I had to reschedule and only received a "there was a misunderstanding". I did get $200 off the final cost due to that issue. A little over a year after the door was installed it starting really squawking and didn't work right. The spring bar sagged a good 3-4 inches in the middle, and the weatherstripping was poorly installed. They came out, looked at it, and tuned it up and it's working much better but still charged me $40. Now I admit that I sat on the install issues for a year and change but they were still install issues. I paid the $40, but it doesn't seem right. Also, as part of the repair, the tech broke a price of weatherstripping. No big deal really, and he said would replace it the next day. He never came and now I'm following up. It's not that they're a horrible company, but it's not as seamless as other reviews have made it out to be. They were less expensive than other companies and the door itself (not made by AMS) is of great quality. The techs are friendly and so is the owner. But the installation process has been less than desirable. Responses to emails take a couple days, and they didn't stand by there work like I expected. read more

Not but 10 minutes ago we waved goodbye to Mike with huge smiles on our faces! Seriously, Mike and AMS are VERY, VERY reasonable and get two big thumbs up in customer service. We came home from the store today, parked in the garage, closed the garage door and heard the loudest thud. Turns out the torsion spring snapped in half and broke, trapping our cars inside. The best Garage door repair service in Austin! Our big spring split in 2 and we needed help. Called AMS and got scheduled for service the same day actually for 1.5 hours later. Mike was there within an hour! The weather was nasty outside, cold, rainy and horrible traffic and he was there early. Blew me away : ) He got to work and completed my entire job in about 20 minutes. Mike is a super nice guy, let my crazy dogs lick all over him and let my kitten snuggle into his beard. Our garage spring broke last night with a big bang. We called AMS after hours and got to speak to someone right away. They scheduled a person to come the next morning. Mike came by the next morning and was really friendly and helpful. He explained what he was doing along the way pointing things out to me. When I told him the bottom seal wasn't tight he took a look and told me the door had been slammed down and was bent up so the seal wasn't good. Some banging with the hammer took care of that and we tried to put a new seal on but it turned out the one I bought from Home Depot wouldn't fit so the original went back. All in all a really good experience. He often pointed out all the little problems with the previous installation explaining why it was wrong which gives me confidence in his knowledge and experience. read more

Went to Yelp to find a repairman and read several reviews. Called AMS and Amanda was pleasant and very helpful. Said she could have a tech out by 11:00am. Yesterday, I came home to find my garage door dented. It looked as if someone had used my drive for a quick turnaround and hit my door with a bumper or trailer hitch. Bottom panel had separated, there was a big dent and gap, and the door was squealing on its rails. Thanks to Yelp, I chose AMS to come out to have a look. Saturday Morning, called the "emergency" phone which was a cell phone. The door cable had broken (called a counterbalance). He said he would be here within an hour and he was right. Showed up in a company truck, with uniform and got right after it. He replaced the cable, checked the track and lubricated all the moving parts. Mike came out after hours, to replace a broken spring, WITHOUT EXTRA CHARGE....and refit the unmounted door opener rail back onto a stud (whereas the initial installers had put it partially in sheet rock). My wife called me at work yesterday after a tension spring popped on one of our doors, and within minutes I had found AMS - published prices on their website were significantly better deals than another company I called that had a flashier website, so I gave them a call. On 7 May 2014 had an appointment at 1:00 p.m. I got home about eleven o'clock and the AMS technician was waiting in front of the house. He arrived early and said he was just trying to see if we were available earlier than the appointed time. Out garage door would not come down without help. He found the problem in less than five minutes and had it corrected again in less than five minutes. He explained what the problem was, how to avoid getting the problem in the future, and what steps to take to reduce the need for service in the near future. The cost incurred for his travel, correcting the problem, and service help was less than $45.00. In all, the total time involved was less than half an hour, earlier than expected, and very professional. I cannot recommend them enough. The person that repaired our garage door, Kevin, was so friendly and helpful. When he came to check out the problem and give us an estimate, he gave us a bunch of good information and advice about the door, replaced a hinge, added a lock, and tightened the spring without charging us anything. He told us specifically which kind of motor he recommended we buy since we could get it cheaper retail. Reading all these 5 star reviews for them makes me scratch my head. They installed our garage door opener improperly and had to come back three times to get it to work right. During that process there were two times they no-showed on us - after my wife or I sat around the house for hours and hours waiting for them. Then one of the features didn't work and they said they would research the issue and get it fixed. That was about eight months ago. Have called several times over that period and only once has anyone come out to look at the problem, but not once has anyone called back when they said they would and the problem still exists. It's like they're just not competent enough to fix their install screw up and so they're just hoping we'll go away. Worst customer service I've ever received from a small company. EVER. I would highly recommend AMS Garage Doors! When my husband bought our house several years ago, he was told by a garage door company that he needed over $800 worth of work to get the garage door running smoothly. Having just bought the house and invested in some improvements, he just couldn't undertake that expense at the moment. The guy said he would try and do some quick fixes (we are not sure what he did though). We have nursed the door along for the past five years, and after our last attempt at repairing the door sent us to the emergency room, we decided that a new door was in order. In comes Mike from AMS. He was so prompt at calling us and coming over (within a couple of hours! and he traveled to the Westlake area!). Finally, it stopped closing altogether and I had to use the cord to close it manually.
