Good Greek food,FINALLY!! I emailed them to see if they had gluten free options before going. The owner, Peter, answered me within the hour. He was very informative and yes, they have gluten free options! When we arrived we were seated immediately. Our server was efficient and pleasant. Peter came over to the table and mentioned a chocolate cake that was flourless that he was working on. If they have it when you come, get it! Amazing! I was about to see a concert at the local music hall with a friend when I finally got a chance to try this lovely place. A different friend who works near here had been coming here and telling me about it, so I was excited to finally get to try it. They were really busy(probably due to the concert), so It took a bit for them to get to us. Once they did though, everything came out in order, quickly and as requested. Getting the check took awhile, but we made pretty good time getting out of there. I started with the calamari tempura and my friend had the chicken eggplant frites. Both were very good! For my meal, I decided on the Gyro dinner plate and then this awesome custard dessert called galactobourkos. The place is fairly small for the volume of people I saw outside waiting for meals or a table. I really enjoyed the well-lit, friendly atmosphere. This place was incredible. We sat at the bar and had the pita bread appetizer with the different dipping sauces: hummus, red roasted peppers, etc it was so delicious! We also had the fried feta bites they were AMAZING!!!! I had a lamb gyro and it was incredible- I added seasoned fries as a side- the portion was huge and the flavor was incredible. I also got a martini that was delicious and expertly made. The service was good! While this place isn't anywhere near where I live I'll be back! Have had hummus with more flavor at several other restaurants. Friends got lamb shanks which were tender but not a fan of taste of sauce. I got sliced lamb that was so tough. Hated the smoked paprika watery sauce. Think sliced lamb was boiled in it. Steak tip combo had a few 1" chunks and ended with several tiny way over done hard chunks. Definitely not rare as asked. This strip plaza eatery offers full service dining, as well as takeout counter service. After reading the great reviews on Yelp, I've stopped in at Amphora a few times so far, for lunch and dinner, getting takeout each time. See the menu at http://www.amphoranh.com On my very first visit to Amphora about a month ago, I was greeted by the owner Peter as I was in here strictly to pick up a takeout menu and leave, since I already had a big lunch beforehand. I was pleasantly surprised when Peter offered me a free sample of the homemade Chicken Avgolemino Soup, which I accepted. The hot soup was delicious, similar to chicken pastine soup, but this soup had a nice soothing tangy lemon flavor. I was sold on it! I stopped in here the next day for lunch takeout and the owner greeted me from the kitchen as he was pretty busy running the show, cooking, calling out and sending orders. I ordered the Lunch Mousaka ($7.95) served with salad & Syrian bread and a Kreatopita ($2.95). The young woman at the register inadvertantly rang me up for the Dinner Mousaka ($12.95) instead of the lunch size ($5 less) and I immediately questioned the total. The owner had to come out of the kitchen and correctly adjust my total. As for the food, the Kreotopita was pretty good, a Greek meat pie with layered with seasoned ground beef, feta cheese, and filo dough. The side salad was good and fresh, which had crisp lettuce, tomatoes, Greek olive (with pit), onions, feta cheese, and a side of tasty house dressing (oil based). The Syrian bread was warm and soft. The piece of mousaka, which had a layer of eggplant, seasoned ground meat sauce, and a thick creamy layer of bechemel, was a bit charred on the bottom, probably from sitting in the hot pan too long, otherwise a decent mousaka. I promised myself I would stop in here again for another try. I stopped in here for dinner takeout last evening and the owner greeted me and took my order. I informed him about the burnt bottom of the mousaka on my last visit and he took note and told me he'll make sure it would not happen again. I ordered something similar, which was the Pastichio Dinner ($11.95) served with salad & bread and a piece of Galaktoboureko ($3.95) for dessert. Those desserts on display look very good! The owner went back into the kitchen, to call out orders. The young man at the register had some difficulty cashing me out, so the owner had to step in and cash me out (deja vu!!!) The Pastichio was very good which was layers of ziti, seasoned ground meat and topped with a thick soft layer of bechemel. The Galaktoboureko was a nice treat, which had layers of filo dough, vanilla custard, and sweet honey. Overall, the food I've had was enjoyable. The staff is very friendly, though still on a learning curve at the register. The owner Peter truly cares about his restaurant, doing a great job at running the kitchen, getting orders out in a timely manner and greeting and talking with the customers. I will definitely be back here again, for a sitdown meal next time. read more

If I could give them 6 stars I would . Everything was amazing and authentic . Having been to Greece twice I have high standards. Since I am still honoring my minimal inside exposure during Covid I ordered takeout. I am addicted to a good lamb souvlaki and was not disappointed at this stop. Seasoned to perfection and served in a grilled herb pita... ahhhhmazing!! My husband had the Gyro and I knew it was going to be good when they pronounced the name correctly. Again spot on. While we devoured these sandwiches right in their parking lot their award winning cheesecake was on my mind. Well it was a two hour drive home so back I went to get the sweets for the ride. I went with my brother for lunch. I was excited to try a Greek resturant, the food is usually delicious. My brother and I ordered a couple of beers before our meals arrived. After taking a sip of beer from my glass I noticed a chip on the top of the glass. I brought the chip to the attention of our waitress. Upon being informed of the chip she asked if it would be okay or if it was necessary to get another glass. I do not wish to eat at a resturant where chipped glasses appear to be okay. Would you want to drink anything from a glass with a chip in it? Not to mention having your waitstaff ask if it is okay. When our food arrived I was totally disappointed, as was my brother. The food was not just like yiya (grandma)used to make. I ordered pastitsio my brother ordered mousaka both dishes were nothing like I remember them and they were absolutely terrible and expensive, I should have just ordered mac and cheese. The chicken from the grill is excellent and the spanakopita is above average. Their brightest spot is their salad dressing. Their gyro is frozen slices from a manufacturer as every piece has rounded ends and is the exact same size. The gyro is pretty disappointing to be frank. The falafel is flat and inedible. If you pick the right items you will enjoy your meal but there are a bunch of potholes on this course. read more

The food is excellent - we ordered it on our eat out in the backyard rehearsal dinner because it was during Covid times and the food was top notch. We are in love with their cheese plate they make on an iron skillet with spices and lemon (saganaki). Even my mom was fighting us for it when she came along. The food and the service are excellent. I hope we caught them on a night off. We were excited based on the reviews here on Yelp & our friends' recommendations & our love for Greek food. Maybe our mistake was takeout for dinner on a weeknight but the place was hustling when we arrived. We did try the spinach pie while we waited and it was a bit too greasy. It's our favorite but something was off, maybe it was so close to closing time? In a nutshell, portions were small for the price (we are more than willing to pay higher prices for quality food)...the salad we ordered was subprime to what we could make at home (iceberg lettuce for a base in the "farmers salad"? We had requested no lettuce....). We actually like the veggie/cheese/olive traditional Greek salad we get at most Greek restaurants but this was similar to a fast food pizza place (don't get me started on the pita bread, what do you shake on it to make it all red?!). We prefer to be able to order gyros with no lamb but their menu doesn't offer that option, we will go to Manchester our favorite ones. We didn't hate it but we didn't love it. But we wanted to love you, Amphora. Our friends love you so hopefully that's enough! We won't give up on you yet but it's been a few weeks and we keep thinking about it....I'll update when we re-visit. read more

This place is unique in that there aren't many options for Greek cuisine in the area, and fortunately they do it very well. My husband and I are big fans of the new tavern area they recently opened. It's very clean and modern looking, and the draft beer is the coldest you can find. The menu is small but authentic, and they usually have specials available on a daily basis. On this particular visit my husband got a braised short rib that was on special and it was AMAZING. It tasted like it had been marinating for days and was unbelievably tender. I got my usual favorite fried feta appetizer, which is always hot, creamy, and flavorful. They also have the best tzatziki I've ever had. If you're in the area I highly recommend checking them out, it's a nice change from the usual options. read more

I had ordered take out through their online ordering on Thursday night. I got a Pastitsio and a Horiatiki Salad to go. When I arrived home, I really thought that they had made a mistake with my order. I did get a small side salad as well as two small wedges of pita bread with my Pastitsio but the size of the Pastitsio was like it was a side item and not a main entree. It came in a small aluminum container and I couldn't believe it. I just paid $19 for this, it looked like it was a child sized portion. If I wasn't so hungry and already home, I would have brought it back. The Pastitsio wasn't too bad but really lacked pasta in it. The salad was for my folks, they said it was good but I thought it was really pricey. All in all, i really feel that I overpaid greatly for what I got! read more
