I had a good experience with Richar during my first project. But wait there's more . He and his…read morecrew laid some cement, cement pavers, laid some rock, and fixed a 30 y/o French drain. I got them donuts one morning and then ice cold beers on their last day as it was super hot while they worked. My issue was when I discovered weeks later that 1) my water bill was astronomical and 2) upon initial inspection I found a gusher on the side where the French drain was repaired. I called him back out to fix it and later discovered after he left that he probably initially caused the gusher during the repair process which I am guessing turned into a much bigger job than he originally anticipated. He suggested that the whole side yard get re-done and we agreed to a later date as I planned to hire him again because I was satisfied with the first job. Curious after he left, my bf and I went and dug up the side drip system and surprisingly found some janky fix it job with compression fittings, T and elbow adaptors, and barbed drip couplings that were not there prior. In fact I paid a little extra on the original job knowing that the French drain was a pain to fix. I contacted Richar and told him of my discovery and he did not respond to my text but it was marked a read. In fact he arrived and brought out a bag of barbed drip couplings right away which I later put together that he already knew what the job needed before even seeing it because he caused it. Richar: if you would like to make this right with me text me and I would be willing to hear you out and consider taking this review down pending outcome.

Very expensive for the outcome received…read more I am leaving a factual review based on my experience. The quoted price was $8,000 for weed-eating and yard cleanup on a 0.55-acre property, including the house area, on hilly terrain in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The property had not been maintained for some time, and some of the weeds were over a foot high. There were also leaves, a burn pile to be hauled away, and another pile to be cut up and moved toward the neighboring side. I additionally asked that leaves be thinned and blown away from the area near the deck. The work took two days with a crew of three. To be fair, the contractor was responsive when other businesses were not, and he was generally professional in communication. He also completed the work as narrowly described in the contract. My main concern is that, given the very high price, the final result still left a substantial amount of leaf and stick debris across the yard. After the crew finished, my wife spent the next two days raking and filling approximately 30 thirteen-gallon bags of leaves from the property. That strongly suggests to me that the leaf thinning and cleanup were not done to the standard I expected for a project at this price point. Another issue was that when I asked for additional thinning of the leaves, I was told that this was not specifically included in the contract. That may be true contractually, but it highlighted a broader problem: as a customer unfamiliar with foothill yard maintenance, I was relying on the contractor's professional judgment to define what a good finished result should look like. In my view, that guidance was lacking. There was also a personal comment made during the job that my wife found disrespectful. To be fair, he did apologize, and I will leave it at that. My overall impression is that the work was performed to the minimum required by the written scope rather than to the standard most customers would expect from a premium-priced yard cleanup. My advice to other customers: Get multiple quotes before committing. Ask neighbors what is typical for similar work in the area. Define cleanup expectations in writing, especially for leaves, sticks, and yard debris. Make sure the scope describes the expected end condition, not just the tasks to be performed. Price the job by clear deliverables, not vague effort.

The Yard Guy came highly recommended as the only guy who could fix my problem! Tim is one of the…read moremost likable guys around, but I have to agree with some of the reviews. The estimate provided was for 3 days of what Tim described as very hard and physical labor for his guys. It was reportedly work that couldn't be done using a ditch digger or heavier equipment because of rocks and location. It turned out that it didn't need any of those things. It was 1 man digging with a shovel, in fill dirt! If I knew how to or what a french drain even was, I could have done that part! The entire job took little more than half a day, including a trip to the dump! The drain does its job fine! I recommend using The Yard Guy for that type of work! They did a fine job on a french drain to capture water coming down my hillside. However, the problem they were called for was NOT water coming down my hill. It pertained to water entering my shower through my foundation or rock wall. The french drain did nothing to fix that issue. The work done at or near the foundation actually seemed to have exacerbated the problem by creating a more direct or easier path for the water! To be fair, Tim told me it was possible what they were doing wouldn't fix the problem and I understood that, but I still thought it would be a move in the right direction. Admittedly, there was work done, during that 5-6 hours, such as digging and cement, rocks moved, things purchased to do the job such as perforated pipe, cement, sand, etc., and finally moving all that beautiful fill dirt to the dump (that I had to pay for separately!). I fully believed that Tim's description made the drain seem very necessary and very difficult...yet, the work I watched and end-result didn't live up! When he became aware that the labor needed and expended wasn't anywhere as extensive as he thought it would be and took nearly 2.5 days less than estimated, I think he should have reduced his fee. Also, when I contacted him to report the problem was the same or worse as a result of additional rain and possibly because of the work done, Tim advised me that the problem was much more extensive than he had believed and then he made several phone calls on my behalf and recommended additional work and expense. Like I said really nice guy! I just wish he had said, I can't fix YOUR problem, but maybe a nice french drain will help with water coming down your hill! I think I was in a desperate situation and it resulted in a nice $6K 30 foot french drain! I do feel taken advantage of when all was said and done.
