It took me a long time to get them where they are today and now I have to start all over. My family is in the San Mateo area visiting from SD and I needed to find a threading studio so that my family members and I could get our brows done for a wedding the next day. Worst eyebrow threading ever. First the price is way too high for the result. It cost me 18$ and I did not tip because she did a horrible work. Normally the price is 10$(Sunnyvale) or 15$ in north bay. Then when she did my eyebrows one is shorter that the other... Really who do that!? She is not a beginner. I have been meaning to update this review since I have stopped going to her and now get my eyebrows threaded elsewhere. She used to be this sweet quiet, shy, pays attention to detail in her work kind of gal, and now she's become this diva that doesn't have to take pride in her work ethic not her demeanor to get clients. The last few times I saw her I felt like I said was waiting to be branded like a cow. Here's my point deduction scale. 1. Star deducted for lack of work ethic and professionalism. 2. Star deducted for not returning phone calls to set up an appt. This happens on a regular basis. However, she remembers to point out not calling you back. 3. This place is very misleading. There is no signage, no timely or professional responses back to voicemails, and if it is appointment only, your website should display so accordingly. Also, you should have the most up to date information on yelp if you are going to use this service. This is most likely a lady who isn't welcoming or doesn't want new business so don't waste your time here. I would not even give this place 1-star!! First of all the lady is SUPER unprofessional and would NEVER honor walk-ins. So if you think you can show up for just to get your job done, it's never going to happen! Also she insists on taking appointments before coming over, but Amita, please tell how does someone reach you when you are unreachable every time, your voicemail box is full & you don't respond to texts! Also, let's get real she takes forever to finish so I kinda agree with the other comments where people say that she is slow. So ladies, have at least 30mins or more at hand if you want your eyebrows done, that's when she honors your appointment. Unless you're a dude who grooms his eyebrows, save yourself and pass on this review. It has been a couple weeks since Amita threaded my eyebrows and they still have a clean edge and nice shape. No breakouts or hair bumps that can happen after waxing. I'm very happy with the results and would definitely return. $15 + tip. If you park on B'game Ave., you'll have to walk through a hair salon to get to her space in the back. I felt sort of lost, but one of the girls at the salon happily walked me. Recommended this place to a coworker who is equally happy and has decided that threading is the way to go! read more

I went to Amita's cause my regular threader was on vacation for a couple months. I must say, she's okay, but I wasn't overly impressed. Her space inside the UK Salon is clean, nicely decorated, and the music was a nice touch. And Amita herself was pretty friendly, but didn't talk too much during the actual threading. What my threader normally does in 10-15 minutes, took Amita 20-25 minutes. Also I told her just trim the outer parts of my eyebrows and she ended up doing all of my eyebrows. She also used tweezers at the end, which I thought was kinda strange and it felt like she was plucking hair from the inner area of my brows, not the outer edges. The lotion and quick brow massage at the end were nice. And my brows didn't look bad, just not what I like on a normal basis. Her price was comparable. If my threader goes out of town again and I'm in need of some brow maintenance, I'll go back to Amita, but she's not my favorite. read more

It was my first time getting "threaded" but I read all the good reviews about Amita so I wasn't too nervous. Parking: If you've been to The Avenue, you know about the parking situation. Grab what you can and walk to UK salon. Bring coins for meters. Location of Amita: She's all the way in the back of UK salon, I mean even further than what my eyes could see, there was a "secret" entry to the left of the salon that lead to Amita's room, which by the way was very relaxing and decorated nicely. Service: She was informative and skilled. When I mentioned the sides hurt more she explained why. (bone and skin, skin hurts more) Price: I used to pay $17 in LA for waxing plus tip so I was more than happy to pay $15+tip = $20. She even asked if I was sure. Yeeah! $20 isn't much to pay for the perfectly arched brows I got today! I took a star off for parking but everything else was grrreat! read more

Okay, I don't know how much I believe that waxing will cause wrinkles in the future, but I decided to give threading a try, just to see what it was all about, and also because Amita's prices seemed VERY reasonable ($15 for what was essentially a brow design appointment). She was able to fit me in with a same-day appointment, and while her little room in the maze behind UK Hair on Burlingame is clean and bright, it's not exactly relaxing... especially with the chatty nail lady next door. Amita was really nice, and took her time -- sure, it hurt a little, but so does waxing. The downers: I didn't LOVE the shape she crafted (a little more pointy rather than subtle arch), and frankly, careful scrutinization afterward made me realize that my eyebrows were a tad uneven (one was slightly thicker than the other). And yes, I actually had a little nick on my eyelid that didn't heal for a few days. This all sounds like a recipe for disaster, but really, they were very minor things. Still no wow factor, but, given her attention to detail, the fact that she was really friendly and took her time, and my eyebrows definitely looked way better than when I entered, I would say it's a reliable place to get an affordable, thorough brow job. read more

I am a big fan of threading now. I used to only get waxed and hated threading because it hurt so much. But a few months ago i got threaded from a waxer after she had waxed me instead of tweezing and it didn't hurt at all...about the same amount of pain as tweezing. The next month I got a regular wax with no threading...and there was a MAJOR difference. Threading it totally worth it. My BFFS come here and have been trying to convince me to come here for years. Finally I gave in. Amita is very thorough and friendly. She did a very good job on my brows which i was nervous about because i had never threaded my brows before just my lip and chin and those areas don't need shaping like the brows do. But once I was done my brows were fantastic and she was so fast. She knows what she is doing and is good at it too. I am now a loyal customer! Can't wait to see her next month. read more

TIPS- You best call to make an appointment because she can get busy. She doesn't work on Mondays. Been wanting to try this place and finally saw a LIVING SOCIAL discount ($10 for eyebrow and lip). She usually charges $15 I think. No post of her prices in her "studio" She is located inside UK HAIR STUDIO. Walk past the hair cutting stalls and her studio is on the LEFT side at the end of the hair studio. There are nail/shellac studios next to hers. Amita does a thorough job on my eyebrown and upper lip. She will spend at least 30 minutes grooming, cutting, threading it. She doesnt really do small chatty talk but she gets the job done well. I just have to rave and rave about Amita. I moved down to LA and I still until I come home for threading; the only person I want with a string near my face is a surgeon stitching me up or Amita. After "growing out" my uneven eyebrows I decided to venture into the world of threading. After finding Amita on Yelp I called and was able to make a same day appointment on a Friday afternoon. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. She has a cute little space. It was relatively quick (though not as quick as waxing) and it didn't hurt that much! ( I compared the feeling to having a rubber band rubbed on my face) Although, I initially thought my brows were too round, Amita quickly gave me more of an arch, and in the end I was really satisfied and I will definitely be going back! There's a reason Amita is a little harder to get an appointment with than most threading studios, which is the only sore spot in the threading experience here. Once you've locked in for your appointment it's all uphill. Think of it as prom night for your eyebrows. She really takes pride in her work, manicuring each brow into perfection. I'm a bit skeptical of the other reviews/reviewers on here... As of today I have the most reviews and I don't think Amita's all that great. Yes, she's nice. Yes, her place is clean. Yes, she plays soothing music. Yes, her rates are reasonable. Major con: my brows came out uneven. It doesn't matter how reasonable her rates are if they don't come out even! They're not terrible, it's just that I've had better results in Santa Clara with Deepa. But thanks to Yelp, Deepa has blown up and I couldn't get in with her last Friday. Deepa is super quick (5-10 minutes) and very thorough. Amita took 30 minutes to do the same amount of work. I would go back, but only as a back up. read more

Okay, to say I'm a lifelong waxing girl is stretching it a bit. I got into waxing in my twenties, when I realized that having someone else manage my brows, etc. resulted in a much better end result, and was much less frustrating. So I went to Amita's having never been threaded before, based on the strong Yelp recommendations. So since I've never been threaded (again, I'm from a waxing background) I'm more used to the single, painful motion of waxing, not the lower-level ongoing pain of threading. Having said that, the result is fantastic. Just amazing. I keep stopping and looking in mirrors (and no, I'm not one of those) just to see her excellent work. I started seeing Amita about a year ago and love the service! I actually have an appointment today! It's the same price as waxing, but I get the full face threaded and its only $30! Eyebrows and lip are already $20 alone at waxing salons... so extra $10 for the entire face is totally worth it! Yes, it is painful and takes longer than waxing, but I prefer this method. Amita is great. She did an amazing job on my eyebrows, and they still look good despite having gone to her about 3 weeks ago. Her space is small, but cute and extremely clean which is important! I liked how she was very thorough in making sure she removed all the hair from my face and shaping my eyebrows just the way I wanted. Amita is different in that she really takes her time with each client, most other places I have gone to for threading try to rush through each client, so you leave with not the best results. Not Amita, she definitely takes her time, and makes sure you leave a happy customer (I was at her place for over an hour for full-face threading). The only thing I did not like is that there was no after-threading moisturizer or anything put on my face. I have seen Amita a few times. She's a lovely person and precise, but every appointment I've had usually starts late. I've had threading done before and I've found that Amita's technique is a little too heavy-handed for me. My lip was puffy for a while after my lip threading. I do have sensitive skin, which is why I do threading instead of waxing to begin with. While I think Amita is great, I will explore other threaders to see if there is a gentler person out there for me. Parking can be difficult to find most of the time, so do bring quarters. read more

This was my first experience threading, and I have to say, it's much different than waxing. Instead of one giant heap of pain, you get dozens of little tiny pricks of pain. I decided to give it a shot with Amitas, because the Yelpers here gave it pretty good reviews. Amita was 5 minutes late for my appointment, but when she arrived, I liked her right away. She is a very soothing person in my opinion. Either way, she worked quickly and with a lot of focus, which is a good thing when someone's taking off your facial hair. I left with my eyebrows nicely groomed, although I would have preferred them thicker (to her credit, I didn't ask her to leave them thick though). They were nicely shaped, and an hour after I left someone already complimented me on my eyebrows. Nice. the service was also only $15, so I left her a twenty. She is fast, she is precise, she is cheap! Amita was my go-to threader when I lived in the area. She follows the natural brow when she threads and does it without too much pain. My only complaint is that she tries to be so precise that she often tweezers after she has threaded and by that point my brows are too sensitive to take it. I have been going to Amita's for the past 2 1/2 years now since I moved back to the Bay Area. Amita is the best. Since I found her I've recommended her to all my family members and all of us are regulars. She is super accomodating to my schedule and has lots of availability whether you call a day in advance or want to come in the day of. If she's with a client and doesn't answer your phone call, you can be sure she will call you back that very same day. Amita does take longer than any other threader I've been to, but it is because she is thorough and precise! I ALWAYS get compliments on my eyebrows and how they are shaped! If there is a wait (which, in my 2 1/2 years going to her was very minimal) it's because the clients beforehand were late for their appointments, therefore causing a back log of people.
