Coolest place I visited while in Indiana! I took a tour of the Amish Acres and got to see how the Amish live and learned about their history! Walked through all there cute shops and bought some chocolate, beef jerky, jams and cheese for the road. They have there own sweet shop where they make fresh fudge, meat shop with their own beef jerky and freshly made cheeses, a variety of jams and jellies. I saw an Amish fellow transporting some individuals in his wagon/buggy and a peacock just wondering around the parking lot. I was very happy with my experience!

We travel quite infrequently through northern Indiana, but when we do my wife generally has us seek out an Amish style restaurant. The grounds for Amish Acres are spot on for creating a great atmosphere. Aside from the restaurant, there are little shops and a building offering theater productions. The area around the buildings are nicely lit with holiday style lights in the evening and it just creates a nice ambiance about the place. The restaurant itself has a nice country store and the building has been nicely refurbished into the restaurant that it is. The appearance is about the end of the line for the Amish appeal. The staff are unlike anyone from the Amish communities I've previously interacted with. It seemed more like a few regular folks putting on somewhat rustic clothing. The wait staff (at least ours) certainly didn't talk as if they were Amish. The food is family style and is indeed all you can eat. They bring you small servings and you just need to keep getting refills until satisfied. We went with the chicken and ham combo. The ham was very thinly sliced and not the thick tender pieces I was hoping for. The fried chicken was just meh... The pricing was reasonable. Unfortunately aside from the aesthetically pleasing property the food here was just meh...

5-14-21 This place has New Owners now and the place is called The Barns instead of Amish Acres. Don't expect the same food that Amish Acres had. The Threshers Dinner is no longer ALL YOU CAN EAT (Except on Friday 4-8 pm, all day Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm) which will be a Negative for a lot of people considering it costs $19.95 per meal and the portion size is small for the money. Just don't come on Friday between 11am-4pm like we did. The staff was friendly and polite so that was a was a plus. The Barns is very accommodating for people like me that are Vegans / Vegetarians. They replaced the ham soup with Tomato Bisque which had an excellent taste but the soup was barely warm. It definitely was not hot like it should of been. The meat was replaced with a veggie bean patty. The noodles with beef was replaced with Macaroni (My friend said there was hardly any beef with his noodles). They also gave me small whole carrots and whole string beans. The string beans where hard and crunchy which I don't care for. The stuffing had a good taste. None of the food was hot as all of it was warm to cold. I told my waitress the food was cold to slightly warm as she said OHhh. The waitress should of offered to take the food back but she didn't. I should of been more persistent. Also when we came here we thought the Thresher meal was all you can eat but the person on the phone didn't tell us that the All you can eat isn't until Friday 4pm to 8pm. We came between the hours of 11am to 4pm so we missed the Buffet. You also don't get a free dessert with the meal as that will cost you an extra $3.50 per slice. The drink is included with the meal at no extra cost. If you want extra bread before 4pm it will cost you $2.00 dollars. The only time you get the free dessert is on Sunday on there Brunch Buffet between 10am to 2pm. We also miss the pickles that Amish Actress had. I was able to talk to one of the owners. He was pleasant and listened to my complaints and suggestions. He ended up walking back into the restaurant and talking to the waitress and whoever else about our complaints like the cold and very mild warm food. The owner didn't offer us any thing for our cold food. Not sure I'll be back any time soon as I can go to other places a heck of a lot cheaper and I guarantee the food is hot. The food had a good taste for what we got for $19.95 but my biggest complaint was the waitress and two other people we spoke to there did nothing to rectify the cold food. Most restaurants I've ever gone to are eager to fix the problem but not this place. If the waitress would of fixed the cold food the stars would be 4-5. I hope the restaurant is successful but they need to listen to there customers. I hope the all you can eat buffet will have more food suited to the Vegans and Vegetarians out there.

    Mimosas?

Unfortunately, I think the low ratings for "The Barns" is from before the opening of the new FarmTable Restaurant. Totally underrated! We most recently had brunch here and were again pleasantly surprised. Of course no good brunch starts without mimosas and they were very accommodating to get us ours. Large glass of OJ and a bottle of bubbly from their in house winery The Vines. I had the chicken and waffles because I'm a sucker for fried chicken. I also sampled the chop salad and farm burger which I would have been happy to have for my own. Try it out! Just know the ratings don't do it justice in my opinion.

Another nice restaurant in Amish country. The food was very reasonably priced and you could easily ask for seconds. The waitress was a little overwhelmed with too many tables, but that is a management issue. The restaurant has lots of convenient parking nearby. It also overlooks a beautiful green park like area, so be sure and sit near a window for a nice view. The butter topped mashed potatoes were delicious! The lemonade was cold and tasty. I enjoyed this meal. The tables are very close together, so you might want to ask to be seated a little distance from the other diners.

Reasonable, great food there are many unique gifts in the shop by the restaurant. The 30 minute drive from US30, is will worth the trip. This is like a up scale Cracker Barrel.

What a wonderful meal! I had the threasher dinner! Each item was blue ribbon! Seasoned perfect! A lot of food! I congratulate the staff on service! The place was well detailed in cleanliness! I will tell many about this place! I will be back

Our family and friends chose the barns for our thanksgiving meal this year. Totally worth it!! A huge buffet selection of delicious food, and it was hot and fresh. The pies tables were amazing, and the hearty bread and apple butter were addictive. The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional, and the atmosphere was homey and easy going. It was our first time being at the barns, but it won't be our last!!

Wow wow and wow for what the new owners have done with the Restaurant at "The Barns" previously known as Amish Acres. My Dad and I ate lunch here a while back and it was good, I don't think I yelped because it was brand new at the time and I think everyone needs a chance to work out the kinks (not the there were any my first visit). We decided to return to try the Brunch buffet. Plenty of food, plenty of fresh fruit and salad, and plenty (probably too much!! Lol) of everything else. The breakfast choices were good, sausage was fantastic, bacon was a smoky flavored delight, and the French toast had nuts and raisins and was the best buffet French toast I ever had. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was good, but they need to work on the biscuits, they were dried up dust. (Thank goodness for the gravy!). Everything on the lunch side was very tasty. I sampled the ham and prime rib, I did not try the fried chicken or Tuscany? Chicken breasts. The ham was juicy and tender, with great flavor. The prime rib tasted great, but to be honest I had the rare selection, and it was very tough to chew. Still not a deal breaker for me on this great buffet. Over on the "Snack side they had avocado toast that was AWESOME! They also offered fresh (DELICIOUS) fruit, home made pies, cookies and pastries. They also had alcohol options but I did not try them. As far as Covid and the buffet, the staff worked really hard at keeping both us and the food safe!! Keep up the great work, we will be back!

First time here and it was better than expected. For dinner, the meal is served family style. The food was excellent and there's was more than we could finish. Everything was very flavorful and served hot. The atmosphere is casual and perfect for the entire family. The building is rustic mixed with contemporary. The service was excellent and friendly.

Very affordable family style dinner.. what was unique compared to other places is the great concept of small portions. This helps to cut down on waste and keeps prices low. They will bring refills out very quickly even when the place is jammed. The soup is served piping hot, the pickles are too sweet, Slaw very flavorful. All the food is cooked to perfection. I have been to much much better Amish places, but this one is worth the price. The good part is you choose when to eat if going to the play, so you have time to relax in the picturesque countryside. So, many place shuffle you from dinner right to play.(not enjoyable when they put you on their schedule) The "Plain and Fancy"--- was a very enjoyable performance. Great message of how people from different walks of life can learn from one another ... it is delivered in a comical loving way... only negative thing is very hot inside and chairs are very uncomfortable.

Since being here we have stayed several different places in South Bend, Elkhart, and Nappanee. Most shops give you the option of staying the nights in your rig but my bride isn't a fan of the 5:30am wake up knock. This house is by far the most comfortable, "home feeling" place we have been since we arrived here. We are staying in the the Coppes Suite and the room is spacious and clean. The bed and linens are very comfortable. We have slept very well. It's like sleeping at grandmothers house according to my wife. My wife has throughly enjoyed the huge bath tub, while I admit the hand shower has taken some getting used too for me. If you have trouble getting in and out of a tub, I would request different suite. Let's not forget the breakfast!! Yummy! Day one: Ham and egg cups, cheesy hash browns that would make Cracker Barrel jealous, toast with fresh strawberry jam, and a yogurt parfait. Day two: red pepper and cheddar cheese (local) omelette, roasted fingering potatoes, toast and a home made cinnamon roll! If you appreciate the classic architecture of a home built by community leaders from the mid 1800's. You will enjoy this place. If you are looking for glitz, there are several chains in Elkhart to stay at. Emily and Kenton are the most gracious hosts... Ps. The room had a smart tv so we could watch "our" Netflix and Hulu. Wifi worked well, and about the only oddball thing was the direct TV system did not quite align with the TV remote controls- so not sure what happened there but it was a bit of work to get the TV to work and find a channel They offer free breakfast and as the main lobby and kitchen area were under construction, they set up shop in a small room off to the side. There was no one at the front desk, but a sign that said "Assisting other customers". I didnt mind waiting, as it was super late and I realize the staff is probably minimal at that time. After a few minutes, a middle aged man with glasses emerged from down one of the halls to help me. He was very polite and helpful, answered all of my questions before handing me my room keys and bidding me farewell. I walked outside to gather my belongings, and I entered through the east door using my card with no problem. However when I got to my room, the keys I was given didn't work. I walked back down the hall to the front desk man again, who was quick to apologize and get me two keys which worked. Due to my last minute reservation and a full house, the only room that was available to me was a double queen handicap, Room 109. Walking in, my first thought was WOW! The room was beautiful and spacious, the decor comfortable and warm. There is a Keurig machine for your convenience w/ coffee cups provided, stacked atop a microwave and mini fridge. All amenities I wasn't expecting, as other hotels have led me to believe that having all three at once is just a mere fairytale. The beds were soft and very comfortable. I prefer a soft mattress as opposed to a firmer one, this bed reminded me of my own at home. Coupled with clean linens, its SLEEP FOR THE WIN! The bathroom was large and clean, I thought it was a nice touch adding Bath & Body Works brand products to their bathrooms. On my sink was a small shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, how nice! The water from the pipes ran piping hot to my preference. The only problem was the walk-in shower, which was a feature of our handicapped queen room. The design is flawed so in that water splashes all over the floor, making a wet puddly mess inevitable. We put towels down prior to our showers and by the time we finished all floor towels were completely saturated. Not a deal breaker for me, but I don't necessarily think it's safe for an older person as they could slip easily and fall. This morning I made my way down to the free continental breakfast, and boy were my expectations blown away! Not only did they have a great selection, but the food was actually GOOD (who would have thought I'd ever be saying that about hotel food?!). They had a DIY pancake station right next to piping hot Cinnabons, a DIY oatmeal station, both pork & Turkey sausage, biscuits & gravy, mini omelets, scrambled eggs. They had a toaster you could use to toast your bagels, muffins and (of course) toast. Three different kinds of cereals and cold Chobani yogurts. My only disappointment was the juice machine, whose contents were merely water by the time I came down to breakfast. I opted for the cranberry, it must've been the least favorite choice as it was all that was left. Lucky for me I'm a cranberry kinda gal! Housekeeping has been very helpful and attentive, I asked for more towels (bathroom mess) and was given a generous stack promptly with a friendly smile. All in all, I would definitely rest my head here again. The staff was overall very friendly and the amenities were top notch. I felt at home here, which I something I dont think I could say had I of stayed anywhere else. Thanks Holiday Inn Express! B)

It is more spacious than what you will get with most lodging hotels at the price and that is also a plus. And it is always a good thing that at least there are NO bedbugs. I didn't bring any with me so I don't want to take any back to my permanent home. The place is out in rural area but still doesn't explain why there are rodents when there is a cat kept next door in the shed/ cottage. I think that if you don't mind staying on top of the Inn Keeper's head to keep him focused then you may not have any problems or take issues that I did. I suspect things may also go differently for you if you are a male type guest instead of female in this cottage back here. I don't like to bother people and I don't want to be or expect to bothered myself! That is part of why I THOUGHT I was paying the money that I do for the stay back here. Not w/o hassle. I'm sure if Inn Keeper prioritized prompt upkeep and address of maintenance issues the same way he seemed prioritize asking about when and where I would be w/o clothes next or 'when I was going to Sunny Haven next' --his own words-- it wouldn't be now since July that lock on front door has still to be fixed, or these critter bugs and cobwebs removed from the corners of ceiling, and now rat problem, and slow toilets and tub drains fixed. With that said I really think that InnKeep could use some extra help around the property truthfully and that is the issue. One person trying to manage all this by themselves. I hope Host gets that resolved soon for this business which is otherwise/aside from current issues, a great place to stay / good value for pricing. I get the impression that degree of helpfulness is somewhat reflective of / varies according to InnKeep's hopefulness or expectations of friendliness / familiarity on part of the guest. Like I said I payed the 1200.00 monthly to have a place to stay when not at work or traveling somewhere else and especially NOT to be bothered. That's my one job. I expect Host to do his. Cash the checks that I give him and keep the place operational and repairs if needed promptly. You will be greeted warmly and you will certainly be served an exceptional breakfast with local farm fresh ingredients. They have a lovely indoor pool and my favorite room is the loft because it's huge and very quiet. No stone is unturned here because they have thought of everything. Sleep number memory foam mattresses and wonderful amenities just to mention a few. I can't wait to return and bring my spouse and my Scottish terrier to experience this very special place!
