We live right down the street, and I've been wanting to try this spot since it opened. Unfortunately, our first experience was extremely disappointing. We stopped by Friday, 8/28, around 11:30 a.m. There were customers, but the restaurant was far from packed. When we walked in, we weren't greeted or acknowledged, so we assumed it was self-seating and chose a table. We waited almost 10 minutes before the young waitress came over to ask for our drink order. I told her we were ready to order our food as well, but she only took our drink order and walked away. We then waited another 10 minutes for a lukewarm cup of café de olla and a glass of water. At that point, we sat there for another 10 minutes watching her serve food and take another table's drink order, while we were still waiting to even place our food order. We completely understand that staffing can be an issue, and if a business chooses to operate with limited staff, that's their decision. But what's important is communication and acknowledging your paying customers. A simple, "I'm sorry for the wait. I'll be right back to take your order," would have made a huge difference. Instead, we were repeatedly passed by without any explanation or acknowledgment, which made us feel completely ignored. Eventually, I got up, took my coffee to the counter, and asked for a to-go cup because we decided to leave and eat somewhere that actually wants our business. I'm assuming the waitress understood my frustration because she offered the cup to me free of charge. I appreciated the gesture, but I declined and simply left. It's unfortunate because we live so close and genuinely wanted to support a local business. Hopefully, management takes this as an opportunity to improve customer service and communication. Staffing challenges happen, but customers should never be made to feel invisible. The most valuable thing in life is ones time- I can deal with bad service but don't fkk with my time. The food did not taste authentic. We ordered the chile verde, which was okay, but the beans tasted like they came from a can. I also ordered the café de olla, but it wasn't actually café de olla. It tasted like regular coffee, and the server offered me a syrup to make it taste like café de olla, which was disappointing. The server was friendly and provided good service, but unfortunately, the food and coffee did not meet my expectations. Because of this, I will not be returning. read more

Food: The food was good. The rajas taco was generous, and the carne asada taco was average, though the added hot sauce I adked for definitely improved the flavor. The oddly shaped chips were okay though the fresh and flavorful salsa made up that. Delicious beans. Very cute place. I really liked the welcoming environment they created. Very nice, clean, cozy Mexican diner. My waitress and waiter were very nice. Their chips and pico de gallo were ADDICTING! I had the trio plate with a taco, a mole enchilada, and chile relleno. Chile relleno was good but the pepper was a little hard, still a little raw. The mole was very salty and the hard taco was good. The beans, however, were better than most places I've tried. I was a little bummed about the mole and chile relleno, I hope it was just a one off. Also, I waited a long time for the meal. If you're local to the area, you would know that this new restaurant replaced Rosarito Grill. It's typically rare, nigh impossible, to be pleasantly surprised when you find out a local spot you used to frequent has been replaced - but Amigas Cafe has proven to be the exception. Now La Habra has no shortage of Mexican food, but good Mexican food is a different story. I was fortunate enough to be served by the owner (and learned that she also runs another establishment in the area). She was pleasant and struck up conversation whilst I looked over the menu and it became very apparent that she cares greatly about the food she serves, noting how she updated the recipes from the prior restaurant. The owner shared more of her personal story and the common theme I saw was resilience. With her experience and dedication to what comes out the kitchen, I expect this cafe to become a new local landmark quite quickly. I've been a handful of times now having had the Chilaquiles and the Breakfast burrito, both of which were delicious! My friend invited me to a new place. We ordered the Cali Bowl. Rice, beans, veggies, steak. Side of chips and super fresh salsa. I had the peach lemonade tasted very good. The service was excellent and they had buy one entree and get one free. So 2 drinks and two steak bowls was 30!!! The bowl was huge and will have half tomorrow at home. The taste was excellent. My daughter and I were looking for a place to have breakfast- we stumbled across this place- it's right at the corner of First and Whittier Blvd in Whittier. In the shopping center. We walked in and immediately greeted by a waiter- he was very kind and welcoming. I ordered cafe de olla which was very delicious- my daughter ordered chorizo and egg and I had chilequilles with eggs over easy- it was delicious- we asked the waiter how long they've been open and he mentioned a few months however it is the same owner from the green chile in La Habra- however the food will be a bit different- more of the El Paso flavor. Stopped in for dinner on what I think was one of their first days open. Parking was plentiful and convenient. We were greeted and welcomed in immediately. We were hungry, so everything sounded good. Our server was so helpful when it came to offering suggestions or answering any questions we had about the menu. We kinda ordered a little bit of everything and were really happy with every item we ordered. The Rajas were incredible, and it will probably end up being one of those must have items whenever we come. If you're looking for authentic Mexican this is not the place. So many good reviews and yet the flavor was totally the opposite. I had the green chilaquiles. The salsa was great! I wish they put more though. The beans tasted canned with Orange cheese. Papas were ok, and sour cream was missing. Eggs were perfectly done but not seasoned. My to go packet salt was double pepper instead of salt and pepper which I'm guessing was a factory mishap. Strawberry horchata tasted like strawberries and water. No horchata taste at all. First the atmosphere, it looks ok, nothing fancy, nothing dirty. The crowd was mostly elderly, and let's say more Americanized. The service- was ok. I walked up to the counter and a lady who said so and so will take your order. No problem, she was busy, and she delegated it to someone else. I don't have a problem with that, I don't need my ego stroked and I respect she knew she was in the middle of getting her order out, so she grabbed someone to help me. The wait- not too long but not too quick either. I went to an outside table to wait. Out comes the owner with an elderly lady who was upset that she didn't get asked how her day was and how her life is. She wanted more attention. I came in and thought I'd give this place a try since under new ownership. I was very disappointed because the chili on the shrimp tacos was so hot. I couldn't even eat it. I had to wipe off all the chili from the shrimps. I ordered two tacos, rice and beans and it came out to $24. I did call in about it and they said that others had also complained about the heat level. I'll try it out one more time and hope that I just got one bad experience. Visited this little hole in the wall this morning for my birthday breakfast. Found it on yelp and hubby and I decided to give it a try, let me just say this little cafe did not disappoint! Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious my husband had the rib eye steak he said it was perfectly cooked he also had the French toast I had the chilaquiles plate with no eggs, the owner was kind enough to replace the eggs with fresh avocado at no charge, absolutely delicious I also had the Belgian waffle, I did feel it was a little undercook but I'm sure I can request it well done next time the owner is so kind and aims to please her costumers.
