Service is amazing, food is delectable. The ambiance is welcoming and staff is friendly and accommodating. The Chicken Fried Rice was probably the most amazing fried rice I have had in my entire life. Asahi roll was super fresh and beautifully presented. The staff was also super accommodating and made my mom a steamed shrimp and cucumber roll, even though it wasn't strictly on the menu. The service and atmosphere was great, super fun looking place, but there's a big problem. I go to restaurants for the food, and Ami's sushi was lacking severely. By no exaggeration it's the worst sushi I've had the experience of eating. My group ordered a ramen, a sushi platter, and a sashimi platter. To start with a positive, the tonkotsu ramen was tasty and it had a nice balance of flavors. Now, I'm not sure if maybe it was just a bad day but the texture of the tuna was like mushy, grainy gel. The salmon didn't fare much better as it had an uncomfortably soft and mushy mouth feel. In addition, the sushi rice was on the warm side. The most disappointing though was the flavor, totally absent and none of the sushi had the slight savory/umami taste that I've come to expect in good fish. (Sushi making side note: preparing the fish usually involves a brine that enhances the taste and texture of the meat. My guess is that maybe this step was skipped, but I honestly have no clue what they did to that fish) When my group left, we all had to debrief about how bizarre the sushi was. I don't want to be mean spirited in any way, our server was very attentive and the manager/owner also checked in with us while we dined. A facelift and a new name. We used to come here when it was a different sushi restaurant. Ami is a strange mixture of a no frills sushi restaurant with a mildly upscale sports bar vibe. Has some limited street parking, & a lot around back with a path to walk through to get to the front. Friendly staff, two levels, & they had a DJ playing 90's mashups while we were there. Good quality food, wide variety and selection of items to choose from. However, the portions were a bit small for the price. Everything I wanted to change (ex. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice to Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice) was extra charge, though the waiter did not give notice. Other than that, they also had a wide variety of sushi to choose from. I came here during lunch time, so it was not too busy, though there was only one waiter serving everyone. I will say the Tuna Tataki was extremely small for the price (I believe it is ~$15). I would've rather just ordered a few pieces of Tuna Sashimi at that point, but was nice to try. Other than that, the sushi was great. They were very generous with their tobiko on some of their rolls, and was very filling. However, one of the rolls was a bit big, and not made the best, as it was falling apart as I was eating it..LOL! For the parking lot, you have to head to the back of the building (by the train station) for parking. It is pretty small, so if you're coming on a busier night, you may need to look for additional parking. There is no street parking by the front of the restaurant. Holy mackerel! I ordered takeout and just tried a few things, but they had me hooked! The Sashimi Deluxe delivered 5 kinds of super fresh fish along with a tasty miso soup. The Ben Ben Roll brought a bright, refreshing mix of tuna, yellowtail, white tuna, salmon, and mango. Was very impressed with this place when I stopped by for lunch early on a Sunday. The restaurant is very big, there's a huge seating area downstairs, they have additional seating upstairs and there's outdoor seating as well. There is also a dedicated parking lot behind the building. Everything looks updated and clean, very nice aesthetic. The staff was very nice and attentive the whole time. They have a decent sized menu, not the biggest selection of rolls I've seen but enough variety that there should be something for everyone. As a vegetarian there were a handful of options for me as well, but I wouldn't mind seeing more. There were pretty standard, avocado roll, cucumber roll, sweet potato roll etc. The most interesting roll I was avocado/peanut so I'd love to see a little more experimentation with the veggie rolls. That being said the rolls were very good and nothing disappointed. Extremely reasonably priced as well and during the week there are lunch specials where you can get 2 rolls plus a soup or salad for $14. (You can do more rolls as well I just can't quite remember the increased pricing). Overall a very nice sushi spot that I would be happy to come back to. read more

Lovely new addition in town! We've only had takeout, so cannot comment on service or the vibe. So far, everything we've tried has been great. We ordered a fried calamari, steak teriyaki, rainbow, dragon, kama kazi, & midori roll. Everything was fresh and tasty. Wish we took pictures but too hungry. Highly recommended! Portions are just really small for the price. I feel like the sushi is for children. The rolls are just tiny and the sashimi is like 40% smaller than other places. The owners are new and the menu has a few more interesting things that you usually don't find on a locally oriented sushi spot. Had a bit of pretty good yellowtail scallion roll , vegetable roll which is more like futomaki, fried oysters and the negimaki- the latter two of which were particularly good at the bar upstairs the other night, the location of which was a good divey Tikki Bar my social clan used to hang out at. The new owners cleaned up that bar area nicely; however, if they plan to make anything of it, they need to make the hours much later during the week ( currently closing time is 9;30 PM) and at least a couple of hours more on weekends ( presently 11PM). I will come back to try more of the food, but the bar - where I prefer to eat - is unlikely to last without increasing the evening hours. read more

This place has amazing service. I placed an order for delivery that DoorDash messed up and didn't deliver. I called them back and they not only gave me a refund but also gave me a discount on the reorder. They made the order a priority on a busy Friday night to make it right even though it was not their fault. I came in to pick up the order and they even offered me a free shot of hot saki. My girlfriend and I came here during their Eastern Conference Finals game 6 watch party, and the atmosphere was incredible. Although the Knicks ended up losing everyone was so excited and jovial the entire time we were here. Also, the sushi was incredible. So many different rolls to choose from. Specifically, I would recommend the dynamite and crazy tuna roll as that was some of the best spicy tuna I've eaten. The bartenders were very nice and conversational. Overall, this was one of the best restaurant/bar experiences I've had in my life. And I would highly recommend anyone passing though the area stop here and enjoy a meal/drink. read more
