I visited this location, along with the Ross Park and South Hills location and man am I…read moredisappointed. I came in to book rentals for my wedding next year and the service that I received from not only the regular employees, but also the store manager was absolutely disgusting to say the least. In the past, I hadn't had many bad experiences with this location but they seem to have cleaned house and completely redid their staffing. Josh didn't seem to know what he was talking about, Mike wasn't very helpful and couldn't give me direct answers to any questions, and the manager Jenn on this specific visit was just very rude and passive aggressive. I went in with my fiancé knowing exactly what we wanted, as we had spoke with someone at a bridal show in January and had randomly visited the South Hills location during a shopping trip about a month ago and decided to actually look at what was offered for rental packages. We were very pleased with what was offered and just needed to make sure that our groomsmen were okay with renting what was going to be needed and see if everyone actually needed to rent all of the pieces or if they had a suit that was similar and just needed a shirt, vest, etc. When we went to the Robinson location, we spoke with a few people, including the store manager and she brushed off all of what we had wanted and made our plans sound small and stupid. We ended up not booking with Men's Wearhouse and went to Top Hat Tuxedo in Fox Chapel, where we were met with overwhelming support and kindness - unlike this location. I can tell that the manager walks around on a high horse and i'm not sure why. The store was dirty, the staff was undertrained, and the manager was rude. I hope other people have better experiences than we did, but yes, a 1 star from us, and some advice to any engaged couple seeing this - DON'T BOOK HERE. The manager will make your feelings and ideas for YOUR wedding feel invalid and small. It's your wedding, not hers and not her employees. If they treat you the way they treated us, go somewhere better. Top Hat Tuxedo was great.

Topaz Thimble - Uneven seams on sleeves

    Topaz Thimble

I was waiting until I won the credit card dispute to submit my review and share my experience with…read moreTopaz Thimble. To any bride considering Topaz Thimble for alterations, I encourage you to read this full review before handing over your gown to Kati. There are many seamstresses who provide better quality work and customer service. I paid Kati $500 to take my wedding dress and create a top that "looked" like what we discussed, but which had serious construction, quality and fit issues. I am now paying another seamstress to remediate all of the work that Kati called her "best work ever". I took my dress to be altered into a peplum style top. At the initial appointment, the dress was put on a mannequin and we discussed the changes to be made. I asked if I should try it on, but Kati stated it wasn't necessary. I thought it was strange that she didn't want to take measurements given we discussed that my wedding was 5 years and 2 kids ago. In hindsight, this was the first red flag. When I arrived for the final fitting, Kati's assistant answered the door and let me know that Kati was finishing up a few things. I waited for about 20 minutes while I could hear the sewing machine frantically whirring in the back. If more time was needed to finish the gown, I would have rather delayed the fitting than rush the work. This was the second red flag. Kati brought out the dress and it appeared as we had discussed. The only time that Kati touched the garment during my fitting was to help me snap and unsnap it. There was no "fitting", "checking" or "fussing" to make sure it was perfect. I paid and left the studio with the top. At home I tried it on again and took a closer look over the whole piece. The sleeves were not staying up because they did not have enough room in the shoulders. The buttons on the sleeve cuffs did not lay nicely as the material was bunching and they were attached unevenly. A seam on the peplum skirt had the horsehair trim raw, jagged and sticking out. Most concerning, the seams and construction throughout were uneven and messy. I emailed Kati regarding this issues and we scheduled a date to come back. My gut however was telling me to get a second opinion. I am not an avid sewer, however I have completed multiple sewing projects, and the quality of work was nothing that I would expect from a professional seamstress. I took the top to a second bridal seamstress with over 25 years of experience. The seamstress identified a plethora of areas where the work was either not completed correctly or was poorly executed. Ultimately she felt it came down to inexperience and rushed work. I feel taken advantage of knowing that Kati let me walk out of her studio with a garment that had blatant craftsmanship issues, and I do wonder how many brides leave Topaz Thimble with poor quality alterations to their gowns. In summary, the following issues were noted: - Seams throughout are messy and incorrectly executed - Sleeves and peplum skirt were incorrectly constructed - Thread color used did not match the rest of the dress - All horsehair seam edges were left raw and unfinished - Appliques were incorrectly connected and causing bunching - Time and effort were not taken to construct proper seams between the sleeve and the strap, as well as between the bodice and the peplum skirt, resulting in bunched and uneven seams. After meeting with the other seamstress, I emailed Kati explaining that I did not feel comfortable returning to Topaz Thimble to have the work corrected. I requested a refund to help cover the cost of the remediation work. In her response, Kati refused to acknowledge the issues identified and refused to provide any type of refund. Kati stated that I was not a sewing expert and stopped responding to any follow up from my side. I submitted a dispute to my credit card company citing "unsatisfactory quality for services rendered" and included all correspondence. After reviewing the case, the bank sided with me and refunded my money. I feel this speaks to the credibility of the review. Overall, when choosing someone to work on one of the most important garments in your life, I recommend you choose someone who has an immense amount of experience and attention to detail. Find someone who will not cut corners, and most importantly, someone who is kind and customer focused. You will not find this with Topaz Thimble.
