First, the driver and his crew were great - I would give them 5 stars if I could on this site. Customer service was ok until it came to working with my move coordinator. Was told I would hear from that individual 1-2 days before the move to finalize. Move was scheduled for Jan 8 with backup date the 9th. I never heard from her by the 7th, did not know her name and was told by the move coordinators I did speak with that they would have her call me. Got up extra early on the 8th in case they were coming since I did not hear from her. Spoke to others with same result - she finally called me later that morning FOR THE 1st TIME although apparently she told others that I was not returning her calls! Then she tells me I was never scheduled for the 8th and would be moved on the 9th - I tried to tell her that all paperwork gave the 8th as move day with 9 as backup. Word of warning - don't work with Catherine from Florida office as your move coordinator. read more

I hired American Van Lines for an interstate move from Boynton Beach, FL to Birmingham, AL in June 2026. Despite one coordinator (Ashley) providing reliable communication, this was by far the worst moving experience of my life. Binding Estimate Fraud - How They Justified the Overcharge: American Van Lines conducted an in-person inventory in May 2026 and provided a binding estimate of $6,400 for 163 items. On pickup day, they suddenly claimed 330+ items and demanded an additional $1,384 (total $7,784.86). When I questioned this massive increase, they claimed that glass tables, sectionals, and other furniture "break down into multiple pieces" and each piece counts as a separate billable item. Here's the problem: During the in-person inventory, I explicitly told their inventory person exactly how many pieces each item broke down into. The inventory person was present, saw the furniture, and I communicated this information. They simply failed to document or communicate this critical information internally. They can't conduct an incomplete inventory and then bill me for their own error after the fact. I have filed an FMCSA complaint for binding estimate violation--federal law requires any price increase be documented in a new written estimate BEFORE loading begins. Severe Damage & Poor Handling: Over $5,000 in damage to furniture and household items Oil stains on bed frame and leather sectional (I have only basic protection coverage) - they should have packed empty oil cartons on the floor in a stable position, not loaded oil cartons on top of furniture. Multiple items damaged during careless loading and transfer Operational Failures: Took 8+ hours to load a 2,500 sq ft home (two bedrooms were nearly empty) Promised delivery in 2 days; took 4 days after their truck broke down and they had to obtain a new truck Took another 8+ hours to unload and rebuild items at final destination Disgusting Conditions During Delivery: One of the movers had severe body odor that was so overpowering it stank up our entire origin and destination home overnight, despite running fans and air conditioning. This is unprofessional and unacceptable when employees are working in customers' homes. Pattern of Negligence & Disrespect: Left trash scattered in the street and yard at our origin home; neighbors complained. After we reported this issue, left trash again at our delivery location Company has a dedicated trash container on truck but refused to use it Movers took water, placed them in our freezer, then threw them across our property What I've Done: Filed FMCSA complaint with photographic evidence of trash and damage Submitted binding estimate violation claim (job #597807) Disputed the $1,300 overcharge with credit card company Documented all service failures and damage Bottom Line: Do not use American Van Lines. They lure customers with low binding estimates, retroactively inflate prices based on incomplete inventory assessments, damage belongings, leave trash at both locations, and operate with poor crew management and standards. There are far better options available. The only positive was Ashley's communication--everyone else and everything else was a disaster. read more

The estimate was over the phone with pictures being emailed to AVL to make sure that they knew exactly what boxes and furniture we needed moved. We received the estimate and signed the contract with a deposit. The day that the movers were to show up they ended being hours late. They were hired by AVL not official AVL employees. We asked up front if they contracted out and were told no! The driver takes the inventory and now we're being charged an additional fee. They made a stop in socal at my house before delivering their main cargo to my parents new place in SF. They were professional, respectful and thoughtful. They did a great job with unloading my treasures from my childhood home and were friendly and energetic at 7am! My parents move and delivery went well too because of them. We hired American Van Lines to move my daughter from Ohio to PA, and it was a disaster from start to finish. Moving day set the tone: the crew arrived hours late, leaving us to clean the empty house virtually in the dark. To make matters worse, American Van Lines didn't even do the job--they outsourced it to a subcontractor driving a rented Enterprise truck. Little did I know, that would be the absolute highlight of my experience. Two days later, the delivery truck arrived in PA on a rainy Saturday morning. This time, it was a completely different crew from a outfit called Blue Crab Moving, led by one of the owners, Igor. Because of the weather, my husband asked Igor how he planned to protect our floors from the mud and water. Igor's response was hostile, he stated he had zero floor protection, that we "should have asked" before they arrived, and gave us an ultimatum to either deal with the mud or they would leave and come back another day. When my husband offered a logical workaround--having one person bring items to the garage door while someone inside carried them in--Igor snapped and accused my husband of "pressuring" him. Igor was aggressively hostile and confrontational the entire time. He and his crew treated our belongings with zero regard: * Property Damage: They managed to break a standing lamp before even getting inside and they damaged the wooden threshold at the entrance to the basement. * Willful Negligence: My daughter's shoe totes had handles on both ends. My husband repeatedly asked the crew to lift them by both handles to keep the contents secure. He was completely ignored. They yanked them around, causing all the shoes to slam into a pile at the bottom, ruining multiple pairs. * More Torn Bags: They grabbed our cloth totes by a single handle, ripping several. When Igor tried to deflect blame by claiming they were "too heavy," I told him the truth: it happened because he refused to handle them properly. * Shattered Belongings: The next day, we opened a box explicitly marked "Coffee Cups." Four out of nine mugs were completely shattered--not just cracked, but obliterated--despite being wrapped heavily in thick brown paper. This wasn't accidental shifting; someone clearly threw the box with massive force. We were forced to pay the entire balance in full before they moved anything. This left us with no recourse if any issues were discovered after unloading. We never completed a final inventory before the movers left. Communication from American Van Lines was also disappointing. We were told someone would call us on Saturday afternoon to follow up on how the move went, but that call never came. Instead, American contacted us the following Monday. When I returned the call, it went directly to voicemail. I left three separate messages requesting a return call, and none of those calls were returned. This is a classic bait-and-switch scheme. American Van Lines books the job under a reputable name, only to sub it out to a bottom-tier company run by a volatile owner. Neither operation belongs in the service industry: one lacks the basic ethics to fulfill their own contracts, and the other lacks the maturity to move a box without throwing a temper tantrum and destroying your property. read more

You would be better off renting a uhaul and hiring 4ndaymlabor workers from the Home Depot parking lot. They raised the price on me 5 times for a 450 mile move. Went from 5k to 8k .Price is based on box count and not total weight. They called me incessantly for a box count during my attempt to pack up my house causing me sign a me sign a new estimate every time they called. And they did not even complete my move themselves-they contracted it out to another mover . Items were scratched and broken, boxes were crushed . I honestly wish I would have done it myself. Run -- do not walk -- away from American Van Lines. I entrusted them with my move from Austin, Texas to Melbourne, Florida. I made it very clear that my furniture was high quality and that I expected any damaged items to be professionally repaired. My sales agent, Alana, assured me their $1,200 valuation insurance policy would cover this, so I purchased it. The result? Multiple pieces of damaged furniture, a stolen concrete birdbath, and months of frustration. I filed the required claim with photos immediately after my July 2025 move and have been chasing American Van Lines ever since. Over the course of this process, they have: Lost my claim Misplaced my paperwork Mixed my claim up with another customer's The level of incompetence and lack of accountability has been unbelievable. I will be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Florida Attorney General's Office and requesting an investigation into the unethical business practices at American Van Lines. I am also retaining legal counsel. Save yourself the stress, financial loss, and endless frustration. Stay with one of the larger, more reputable moving companies. read more

The communication with this company was misleading from the start and never improved. Every call felt scripted and unclear, and even though I repeatedly told them the exact dates we needed our items delivered, no one would give a straight answer. They assign you a permanent point of contact, but ours never returned a single email or phone call. No one will tell you when your belongings will arrive because they wait until they have several households booked before they even begin the trip, which means your items can sit for weeks. We bought plane tickets to meet the truck, were there waiting, and they never showed. Service recovery was nonexistent. I spoke with around ten different people and not one could tell me where our items were or when they would arrive. When the truck finally did come, they broke our kitchen table, damaged our master bedroom bed frame, lost all of the hardware needed to reassemble our furniture, and left our things in complete disarray. We are still missing several items that never made it off the truck. Totally unprofessional. The intentionally misleading answers, the lack of accountability, and the poor handling of our belongings made the entire experience stressful and disappointing. read more

NEVER USE AMERICAN VAN LINES. They lie when they take the order and ask for 50% deposit. Then they turn the order over to a broker who they have no control over. MOST IMPORTANTL, they NEVER return calls or are pro-active on managing the account (because the 50% paid up-front is what they earn from the transactio). The remaining 50% is paid COD to the broker upon receipt of the shipment. Iur furniture from Texas to Ohio was to be shipped directly upon pick-up and delivered by June 1. As of June 5, the furniture sits in a store and lock in Frisco, Texas. No follow-up by American Van Lines to remedy the issue. We have no idea when we will receive our furniture as all they do is tell us lies. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! read more

If I could give American Van Lines negative stars, I would. Our experience was defined by poor communication, unclear charges, and a delivery delay of more than three weeks. We rushed across the country to meet our scheduled delivery, only to find out--at the last minute--that our truck wasn't arriving at all. From that point on, every update required us to chase the company down. We reached out repeatedly by phone, email, and text, and were consistently given conflicting or misleading information about where our belongings were and when they would arrive. At no point did the company proactively communicate with us. Even the driver and locally hired unloaders openly told us that the company is disorganized and difficult to work with, which only confirmed what we were experiencing. Because of the repeated and unexplained delays, we incurred significant additional expenses. The company offered $30 per day in compensation--an amount that doesn't realistically cover even basic daily costs. Worse, accepting that payment required signing an agreement not to leave a negative review, which we found completely unacceptable. We declined the offer. This was a stressful, expensive, and deeply frustrating experience from start to finish. I strongly recommend avoiding American Van Lines and choosing a mover that values honesty, accountability, and basic customer service. read more

I recently hired American Van Lines for a cross-country move from Los Angeles to Chicago, and I'm disappointed by the services. I would NEVER recommend, not even to my enemies!!! Set-up was easy, the call was great, which led me to high expectations. However, once the pickup date arrived, things took a turn for the worse. Initially, the driver was pleasant, but the person helping him was someone he had never worked with. Only one person was scheduled for the move, which was insufficient as the driver was busy tagging & inventorying items. The helper asked for a soda, which I agreed to, but then proceeded to help himself to my fridge. He then began taking items from our second-floor apartment to the truck, all the while being clumsy and careless. I requested that he handle our items with care. No more than ten minutes later, I saw him drop our dresser, and his response was simply, "my bad," without even an apology. I informed the driver; he didn't address the issue as our items continued to be loaded carelessly. Upon delivery, which was a day late from what the driver had initially told us, they brought in another person whom the driver had never worked with before. This new person was better and genuinely helpful. He even apologized to me for the way my items were packed, stating that whoever handled it was terrible and indifferent. Many of my items arrived damaged or completely broken. Fragile items that were clearly labeled were placed under boxes marked "heavy." Boxes were crushed, furniture was scratched and chipped, and one floor-length mirror was utterly ruined with the frame broken on all four sides. One item arrived bent, and when I mentioned it to the driver, his excuse was, "Well, it's flimsy." REALLY!?! That is the response you choose to give to your customer? He also dropped a box labeled "FRAGILE/GLASSWARE". His remarked was, "You should have packed them better." I opened the box to show him that I had packed it properly, in a glassware box. read more

I moved back in June 2024. I wanted to wait until I'd had time to actually unpack a bit and get a real feel for how well the job had been done before writing a review.   Pros: So far everything seems to have made it here with me.  Cons: In my opinion, the movers seemed whiny and did a shit job of unloading/putting together my things.    I was content to chalk this up to a rough experience for all involved until I went to move my bed (to put the rest of the headboard on since I finally found the pieces) and realized that they couldn't be bothered to even fully attach the footboard to my bed. This led me to check out everything else that they had taken apart and were supposed to reassemble.   The bid I signed with American Van Lines (they outsourced to Tryzub Van Lines the day of my move) was for my movers to package everything up securely (including breaking down any furniture that they deemed necessary for easier transport) and delivering and reassembling the things they broke down. The original quoted amount was $5,210.04. The contracted team before doing anything had me sign an addendum agreeing to an additional amount of $2,111.83 for a total cost of $7,321.87. At this time I had already paid a deposit of $2,605.00 and needed to be moved that day and thus had little option in the moment for what felt like a bait and switch done by American brokering my contract out to a 3rd party and said party requiring a higher amount for the job.    The agreement was for a team of 4 to pack up remaining items and disassemble/reassemble furniture as needed for the move. Most of the items they disassembled were not reassembled and appear to be missing pieces requiring replacement and pay for assembly. The items that were reassembled were done so poorly and also need to now be replaced. The things that they "packed" were packed haphazardly and unlabeled. The 2 man crew also just dumped boxes and items where they saw fit with no rhyme or reason. When I asked how to find things, they basically brushed me off and stood over me while having me fill out a customer satisfaction form.    The contract I signed was for an organized move handled by professionals. The agreement stated inventory of items, proper packing, and reassembly of disassembled furniture. In my opinion, this contract and agreement was not upheld.    Attempts at resolution, from my view and in my opinion, failed and left me feeling intimidated, threatened and that I would be sued for allegedly false light and alleged attempted extortion (I requested $2,800 to help with replacing items that hadn't been put back together/need to now be replaced). My experience with this company has been nothing short of complete turmoil. read more

Buyer Beware! If I could rate them with zero stars believe me I would. Please believe me and the other negative reviews posted here, we speak the truth. Our experience was a year ago and I have to be honest, I waited to write this post, I'm not sure it helped I am still so furious with this company I do not want anyone else to go through what we did. First, they will tell you everything you want to hear, promise you (even up to 48hrs before our confirmed pickup date/time) that everything is perfect and on schedule. Moving day arrived, and note this was a major move for us, cross country, not across town - anyway, they day arrived and when the truck hadn't arrived in the window of time we were provided we reached out to them - yes, we called them! After being passed around and kept on hold, finally had a person brave enough to tell us there was no truck coming. Not that day, or the next or the next. We spent several hours on multiple calls with various members of their staff to be told by more than one employee - our best bet would be to cancel, obtain a refund and find another mover. By late that afternoon the best they were willing to offer us was a call back in 48hrs to advise IF they would be able to reschedule a truck to handle our move the following week. It honestly felt to us like they wanted us to walk away - we did, they left us no choice. We ended up calling back another company we had originally obtained a quote from and after paying a premium (thousands more) we had our move handled by a great team from another company. AVL offered us $500 for our trouble - run, run, run away from this company! read more

Do not use American Van Lines. This company is a broker who will give you a price for your move, collect one-half up front, and then sub out your move to a company you would not hire yourself in a million years. The sub collects the other 50% before they will deliver your furniture. American Van Lines keeps the 50% up front money for doing very little except having a phone number and pretty pictures of trucks that will not show up at your house. My experience was terrible. Nobody showed up on my moving date and numerous calls to American were unanswered or not helpful. I was lied to repeatedly by American employees who told me movers were on the way. Movers did not show up until two and a half days later and they were terrible. I would never have hired them myself. Be very careful in hiring movers. I was fooled by fancy adds and pictures. This is not what you get from American. You get horrible movers who do the job for half of the price you pay and that is exactly what you get - half of the job you expect. read more

Delivery was significantly delayed, with multiple broken promises and almost no proactive communication. When our belongings finally arrived, we were overcharged by more than $2,300, despite the company's own paperwork showing otherwise. Several items were missing, others were damaged (including expensive furniture), and many boxes arrived crushed or mishandled. What made this worse was the lack of accountability -- managers contradicted their own contracts, failed to follow through on commitments, and ignored requests for written confirmation. We paid a premium price and received nothing but delays, overbilling, lost items, and poor service. Moving is stressful enough -- don't make it worse by trusting this company. 1 star - Be Aware - Absolutely Unacceptable Experience! I hired this company to move my condo from Aventura, FL to Hallandale Beach, FL based on what I thought was a professional, flat-fee service. The sales rep, Michael Vicianaza, came to my apartment for an on-site survey and confirmed the full list of items, including all the essential appliances like my refrigerator, range, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer. These were clearly listed in the signed contract and inventory. On moving day, the truck arrived four hours late, and the driver immediately told me he wouldn't be delivering the appliances unless I paid extra, despite the fact that I had a flat-rate contract. He claimed he was only being paid by the company for 4.5 hours of labor and said delivering everything would require an extra 1.5 hours, which I'd need to pay for out of pocket. When I refused to be extorted, he refused to deliver my appliances. I spent nearly a week trying to get a response from anyone at the company. Calls to their main office line, direct lines to several representatives and to the rep's cell who set it all up, were ignored. Zero accountability. Finally I had to hire a different moving company to finish the job at my own expense, and lost another full day of work in the process. Bottom line: This company breached their contract, extorted me, ghosted me, and left me with massive inconvenience and extra cost. It is highly advised to avoid them at all costs!!! read more

We contacted American Van Line to move us from Sunrise Fl to Ocala Fl. In the middle of everything, I did not notice they had scheduled us for the wrong date. I gave the office a call, and Customer Service was able to correct the date. Great Customer Service. The three gentlemen that came to the house were awesome, polite, and did not stop. I do not know where to begin with this terrible company. I paid so much money to have my stuff moved across state lines and half of my items were destroyed. Not to mention, I am missing so much other valuable items that were not delivered. Prices were outrageous!! Even though they assigned a direct person to coordinate my move, he promised that the company would not switch during the move, and out of nowhere, I am getting different estimates to pay from a subcontractor (Sarguzin Corp).
