I feel like it's always the same food. The foods kinda bland, but not horrible. The sweet tea was pure sugar. The service was and always is typically pretty good even on a busy Sunday. The restaurant is clean for the most part but sometimes dishes set for a bit. And if you have a baby please know it doesn't matter their age. If you get them their own plate of mashed potatoes and gravy you will 100% get charged the $10 for a kids buffet. So save yourself the money and let them eat off your plate. Wish I would have knew beforehand. Lesson learned. read more

My husband and I made the regrettable decision to dine here on March 13th. Unfortunately, the food was not only tasteless, but it was also just preboxed Walmart frozen food beef stew! NOW FOR THE WORST PART!!! SO my husband got some of the typical cheap ice milk stuff and in his first bite he got a big PIECE OF GLASS!! THANK GOODNESS IT WAS HIM AND NOT A CHILD!!!! We asked for the manager, she came over and says "Well the owners are here I'll let them know." THAT'S IT!! I said YOU SHOULD TURN IT OFF!! Well we never saw the owners nor did they turn it off! Great place great food. Don't know what else to add really. That sums it up! My wife and I went for date night and had the buffet. She doesn't eat meat and they had her covered. For me they had fish, which I had been craving, cooked to perfection. The only bad part was the restroom that needed a little TLC but is was clean and supplied fully. read more

They have always been a solid 90 to 95 and the food was at 95 today but Today I went in and got a plate to go and I was going around the buffet and as I was putting mashed potatoes in my plate, an employee came up to me and started chewing on me saying "to go plates are only allowed 4 pieces of fish." I looked at her and pointed at my plate showing her that's what I had, 4 pieces! She turned around and left with no apologies. I put some onions on my plate and went to the register and told the cashier I didn't like being accused of stealing fish and her comment was that the girls need to start telling people. My wife and I have eaten here several times. It has always been delicious. I prefer the buffet because of the variety of food offered. It is usually very fresh, but as with any buffet, there are times some choices may not be as fresh. They have always made it right. We have ordered off the menu as well. It takes a little longer, but what do you expect. We stay away from chicken and other items that take longer to prepare, if ordering from menu. Ordered the steak n shrimp it was the most disgusting piece of meat I've ever seen. The baked potato was even raw...sent it back! The meat was silvery purple?? Fantastic Smorgasbord with an excellent salad bar daily. Fried Chicken and Pork Steaks are often in the food bar. Clean and great food.

I've eaten at the American Steakhouse quite a few times, but the last two times that we've eaten there, my husband and I got sick. I have a big problem with people who work in a kitchen that do not wear gloves while they handle other peoples food. I watched this last time that we were there, and not one of the people that I saw working in the kitchen was wearing gloves. Several came out to replenish the buffet, and none of them were wearing gloves and most of them weren't covering their hair. I don't know how the Stoddard County Health Department is, but I run a Nutrition Center in Dunklin County and the Health Inspector always checks to see if my cooks are wearing gloves and covering their hair. We will not be eating there again. They have lost our business. read more

We were in Dexter early so we looked for a breakfast place and drove all over town and could not find any diner. That's weird that you can't any diner so we saw a breakfast sign on the American steak house. This place was garbage. The waitress came over five times before the order for three people was complete. Bk or Md would have been better and more flavorful. The biscuit was hard so I left the second one. The sausage patties were small,dry,hard and cooked to death. I think they were cooked hours before I was served them. The gravy was bland and there was no sausage in it. The over easy eggs was the best thing but how do you screw that up. This place has no competition in town because penny's diner was closed and we couldn't find any other breakfast place so they can serve crap and people will eat it. The place was hopping around 9 am and I can't see why because Mds or Bk big breakfast is much better. It's hard to believe that in small town America that you can't get a decent breakfast. read more

The food was hot, but was under seasoned and the catfish was cooked so long that the meat inside was burnt and dried up.

They have an incredible weekend buffet with down home country food, the price is really good for the great quality of the food and staff. The wait staff were very nice and genuine people. read more

We are from Michigan here in Missouri visiting family. We told them prior to seating we wanted to order our food from the menu and we ordered 3 orders of chicken strips for $8.99 each you are suppose to get 4 pieces of chicken with the meal when our food was brought out 20 minutes later there was only 3 pieces of chicken on the plates for that price as the waitress sat them down we brought it to her attention before she walked away, she was polite and apologized and went to get it when she did the manager came out and accused us of stealing the food and lying about it. I asked to see the cameras if she believed we stole the food and she refused and told us we couldn't have to go boxes until we were done eating. I told her I had no intention on eating the nasty food while I was there and wanted my box to take my food home. It was all around a poor experience the food was horrible and the management was very poor! I do not recommend this place to no one it was $40 for 3 orders of chicken strips after taxes her own waitress apologized for her managers behaviors. read more
