    Ribeye "sandwich"
    K S.

I was pleasantly surprised coming to Delmonicos. I'd driven by literally thousands of times and never considered coming in. It's an old school place, but the two things I've gotten were very good. Fried chicken was the authentic, quality fried chicken that any rational person would love. Another day I got the ribeye "sandwich" for lunch, and it was a good ribeye at great price.

Great people and great food!!! Try their Classic Burger-it is one of the best burger's anywhere. They have lots of great Menu items too!!! Buffet on Sundays is one of the most fabulous in the great USA!!! Breakfast galore!!! Biscuits and gravy, some of the most wonderful donut holes (better than any honey bun or donuts out there!!!). Also, awesome fried chicken and all the fixin's!!! These folks know what they are doing!!! Atmosphere is friendly and relaxing, and they have banquet rooms for larger groups. Super clean dining experience!!!

The best I can give Delmonico's is that it's inexpensive. There's also the truism that you get what you pay for. Combining these I say, "keep traveling." I arrived at 11:30 for lunch but the breakfast buffet was also out available. The service was good, the buffet selection of comfort foods was satisfactory. But, I wasn't comforted due mostly to everything being served at or barely above room temperature. I wondered how long items had been out when something like fried okra was limp. And then there was the issue of nothing being identified except the salad dressings. Despite growing up with Southern cooking and comfort foods there were items I didn't try because I had no idea what they were. I also had the suspicion that everything was (barely) warmed up leftovers. Fried chicken was overcooked. Ditto the bacon. A resupply of catfish was the only hot item I had but was tasteless with a tough coating. I attempted a burrito but several stuck to the pan: When one broke open it revealed dried up beans and meat. I passed the BBQ ribs because they were dry also. Nachos and cheese seemed a safe bet but the chips were barely fried puffs of meal. Salad items looked like they'd been refrigerated overnight. (How appealing are hard boiled eggs with a gray ring around the yolk?) Chili was barely warm enough to melt grated cheese. Is it necessary to go on? However, let me add this alternate perspective: By noon Delmonico's had greeted a roomful of octogenarians and another of Rotary Club members.

Well, sugar, let me tell you about my little stop at Tractors Classic American Grill in Jackson,…read moreMissouri. I had high hopes for this place! I ordered the cranberry apple salad with grilled chicken, thinking I'd get just a little something light. It was supposed to be a half order, but honey, it sure didn't look like half--either they were being generous or someone missed the memo. The price, however, sure wasn't light--over sixteen dollars for a salad that didn't exactly sparkle. To be fair, the salad itself wasn't bad. The grilled chicken was seasoned nicely, and those little pops of cranberry added a nice sweetness. But the apple slices were tired, bless their heart--soft and browning like they'd been sittin' out at the church potluck a little too long. What really left a sour taste, though, wasn't the fruit--it was the service. When I politely asked the young man at the counter about the price, he snapped, "It's gone up," and just walked away. No "I'm sorry," no smile, not even a nod. That kind of rudeness don't sit well with me. So here's the bottom line: Tractors has potential, and that salad could've been a winner with fresh ingredients and a little Southern hospitality. But no matter how good the food is, if the service leaves you feeling unwelcome, it's hard to come back.
