We are locals who hit up Hickory House at least once a month. We go for their burgers and fries. They have high quality beef and it's always grilled to perfection. Another favorite is the club sandwich. Again, their meats are so delicious and they do not skimp. It's a huge club. My husband likes the kettle beef there. You really can't go wrong. read more

First time here for breakfast. Can't say it was a stellar experience. Waiting to be seated was not too bad, but they don't have a greeter and you have to find out yourself that you have to sign in. Once seated, our server was pretty prompt. She took our coffee and food orders, but then promptly forgot about us. We had to ask another server about where our coffee was. Our server brought it finally and made up for it by taking the coffee off our tickets. That was nice. We got our food after that. I had the Mexican omelet with hashbrowns and an English muffin. The omelet was ok, not the best I've had. It seemed low on seasoning. The hashbrowns were satisfactory and the English muffin was good. I got a sausage patty from my friend and, I have to say, that was the best sausage I have ever tasted in 56 years of life. They make it in house, I was told. Overall, an ok experience. I will give them another try down the road to see if this was just a bad day for them. read more

We went there yesterday for my birthday and ordered the Fried chicken and it was great some of the best chicken we ever had. So if you like fried chicken please check them out. Plus everyone is so nice and owners come around and talk with everyone. We also got one of the cinnamon rolls about the size of a hub cap lol and really good. My family lives close to Hickory House, so we've eaten here probably 30+ times. The food is really good. The things they do really well are steak, fried chicken (if you don't mind waiting 15 min), and hamburgers. Their salads are not great, so I'd pass on those. My absolute favorite thing here is the hamburger. They might have the best hamburger in Missouri. The bun is a sweet sourdough and the beef is straight up magical. If you prefer a thinner patty, they offer a 1/4 lb. version. I've gotten it and it's just as good. They also do a stellar breakfast. Skip their biscuits and gravy... but everything else is spot on (and reasonably priced). The service can be hit or miss... and when they miss they really miss. So minus one star for that. But they're all very friendly at least. read more

Customer service is terrible. We arrived 10 minutes before the rest of our party and they refused to seat us. I asked were they saving our table for 6 and they said yes. They seated a large table 1 minute before our party arrived. And then they said all tables were full. I talked to owner who said first come first served i explained we were there first he said too bad. I told him we were going to give him a negative review and he said go ahead. Good breakfast but they stop serving at 10:30 am, no exceptions. I found myself there with my husband at 11:45 am on a Saturday. We commented that we'd never seen the place so empty. The host said it clears out after breakfast. I believe I know why. I ordered the 2 catfish fillet lunch. For my sides I chose collard greens and fried okra with the skillet cornbread. The collard greens were sweet and not spicy at all. There seemed to be sugar in the breading of the okra. Okra is sweet enough without adding sugar to the breading. It's supposed to be savory. The cornbread could be used to make a brick wall it was so dry and dense. The catfish came with a weird orange sauce not listed on the menu. It was like 1000 island dressing. I asked for regular tartar sauce. I was given a soupy white sauce very heavy on the pickle juice. So I decided to try the fish without the sauce. It was very bland; no spices at all. In conclusion, breakfast is good. But I will personally refrain from visiting during lunch and dinner. read more

Met someone for lunch and here and had the fried chicken lunch special with fries. The chicken was very good (though does take awhile to make-which we were advised when ordering) and the fries too. Nice place to take your family. The portions are generous and everything is priced moderately. It's a great value. I only was there once, and I took a chance and got the ribeye. Decided to try it again after the last time months ago the young man packing food visible in the drive through kept running his mom gloves hands through his hair several times then slinging his hair as well while continuing to pack my food. Last night of the 6 people I could visualize from the drive through only the gal taking my money had a mask on. 2 had a mask but wearing under their neck and then 3 other men 2 of whom looked like owners or managers didn't even have one and handling food. I have had great service here prior to this morning. We had a large party I gave them a heads up on and tried to reserve a table the day before. But, they don't do reservations. No problem, so I showed up this morning about 20 minutes before our party arrived to get a table. They couldn't sit me until everyone showed up. So, I continued to wait. A little more than half of us arrived (including my grandfather) and decided to grab a table so we wouldn't have to stand and wait. Once my cousins showed up, they tried to get a table next to us so we could all sit together. The manager, who was extremely rude, refused to allow all of us to sit together due to part of the food has already been placed in their system and it couldn't be changed to a different table. We ended up have to sit at 3 different tables at different areas of the restaurant even though there was two large tables open right behind and in front of us the entire time we were there and after we left. One of my cousins even left due to the manager telling him "you're being an inconvenience!" when he made the request to move to a larger table in order to sit with his brother. I couldn't believe they were that rude to a paying customer! I have been there time and again with great service and the owner has been super friendly. But not this morning. I will not go back there again. The owner was nicer than the manager, but still insisted we couldn't be sat together. All this over something as simple as trying to have our 12 top family enjoying a meal together, was too "Inconvenient" for them. read more

Wife ordered ham and beans. What she received looked and tasted like Campbellsbean soup with more ham added into it. The macaroni and cheese was buttered noodles with shredded cheese on top of it. We were from out of town, but will be sure to not visit again. We ordered pulled pork nachos for appetizer and the meat was ice cold. Sent it back and came back microwaved. Terrible service and rude treatment by the manager! So disappointing since the food and server was great. Had 2 family members from out of town arrive after we were seated and asked if they could join our table or sit at a table next to ours. We were told no because of their "advanced" computer system, although there were empty tables all around us. When we suggested the couple just sit at our table with us, the manager replied "Or I could just make you leave." Considering this couple was on a different ticket than ours, we didn't see the issue. read more
