Well, sugar, let me tell you about my little stop at Tractors Classic American Grill in Jackson, Missouri. I had high hopes for this place! I ordered the cranberry apple salad with grilled chicken, thinking I'd get just a little something light. It was supposed to be a half order, but honey, it sure didn't look like half--either they were being generous or someone missed the memo. The price, however, sure wasn't light--over sixteen dollars for a salad that didn't exactly sparkle. To be fair, the salad itself wasn't bad. The grilled chicken was seasoned nicely, and those little pops of cranberry added a nice sweetness. But the apple slices were tired, bless their heart--soft and browning like they'd been sittin' out at the church potluck a little too long. What really left a sour taste, though, wasn't the fruit--it was the service. When I politely asked the young man at the counter about the price, he snapped, "It's gone up," and just walked away. No "I'm sorry," no smile, not even a nod. That kind of rudeness don't sit well with me. So here's the bottom line: Tractors has potential, and that salad could've been a winner with fresh ingredients and a little Southern hospitality. But no matter how good the food is, if the service leaves you feeling unwelcome, it's hard to come back. read more

This review is not so much about the food, but about the servers and how they treat each other. I am local, so when people come to visit this is one of the places I usually take them. For some time now I have noticed a pattern of certain young men there treating the young females and some other young males is a highly disturbing and disrespectful manner. Over time they have become more overt in their bullying of the other workers. The adult male who I see regularly does not seem to care that this is going on, as I know for sure he has to hear what was said, because he was closer than I was, and I heard it! Also I have noticed a large turn over of young workers and I wonder if a hostile workplace plays a huge part of it. I have guests coming in over the July 4th weekend and I was going to take them here, but have since made other arrangements. My daughter took me here for my birthday! I had wanted fried catfish, she said they made the best! The place is so wonderfully "farm furnished/decorated" inside & comfy booth seating. The menu choices all looked wonderful, I was tempted to order a burger, but chose the catfish. The servers were so pleasant and professional. This place is one reason why I like to find eating places in small Missouri towns. I was in Jackson for the Eclipse and needed to find something before heading back to St Louis. I had previously scouted a place on Yelp but when I arrived at that restaurant it didn't look like they were serving any food. I went back to downtown Jackson and picked Tractor's Classic American Grill. Parking was easy to find and was free. I was seated at the bar and the bartender immediately took my order. I got a "Massive Ferguson" with steaks fries cooked medium. Do you see the "tractors" connection with a name like "Massive Ferguson?" The menu is a collection of references like that. The Massive Ferguson is a half-pound burger on brioche with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and tractor sauce. This has everything that I like on a burger. It took a while for the order to arrive but it was Eclipse day and they were busy. The burger was excellent. The burger was cooked correctly and the toppings were perfect for the size of the burger. And for a refreshing change, it was not done "smash burger" style. When you are used to fast food burgers and get a hot, fresh burger that is cooked correctly it can sometimes be an experience. The steak fries were heaven. Big pieces of potato that were hot, well salted, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This one is a keeper. I'll set it up in the car's nav system and if I am ever down 55 South again I will stop and give something else on the menu a try. read more

Oh my, is this watering hole plopped in the middle of a cute little town square. The moment you walk in, the energy is fun and contagiously upbeat. The guy behind the bar (I'm assuming manager, owner or both) was all over the place welcoming guests, checking on their dining satisfaction, and contributing wonderful vibes in general. We didn't want to wait for a table and opted for seats at their charming bar. Unfortunately no drinks for us because we had an early morning. Would their food match the ambiance? Yes, we absolutely loved our menu choices start to finish. I didn't try my husband's Fruit and Poppy Seed Salad except for the dressing; well, I wanted to bottle it and take it home. I had the Fiesta Chicken Salad which included wonderful crispy fried chicken with all the trimmings and another homemade-tasting dressing that was divine - it was like a ranch/salsa mix. We shared the salted caramel gelato for dessert which was so delicious, our adorable server retrieved the brand for us (Dolce Villa). Please Tractors, serve it in a larger bowl that doesn't have this frozen gold spilling over the top. Regrettably, I lost the receipt and don't recall her name. :( read more

Great recommendation from the locals we knew. Looks like a neighborhood bar when you walk in, but then you walk around the corner and it becomes a small, cozy restaurant. Can't go wrong with appetizers like fried pickles, except that the portions were a little little, as in small. However, having Schlafly on tap does make up for that (a little!). My party had everything from pork chops to cheese steak subs to catfish and apparently everyone was satisfied. The service was a bit spotty. The waiter picked up our forks when he picked up the appetizer dishes. It took a few minutes extra for him to bring my second beer out. What a cute place! There's a bar as you enter--super casual and a couple of tvs going. There's some booths in the bar area, and in the dining room there's plenty of seating, too. The Fire Cracker Shrimp Salad with BBQ Bleu Cheese Dressing was yummy. The veggies were super fresh. I wasn't wild about the bread pudding...it was fine, I guess. The employees were friendly. Never in a million years did I ever think I would be saying that little small town rural Missouri has one of the best restaurants I've been to. This is a very small town with little to no diversity. But the food here is amazing! I want to give 5 stars, but there was one big issue. They weren't crowded. We had a 2 hour drive to Saint Louis to catch a flight back to Dallas. We shared this with our waitress. We had plenty of time to eat, but she took forever to wait on us, to bring the check and to bring our cards back. It was like she was doing it on purpose. The food, however, was absolutely spectacular. I had their special of the day, which was taco pizza. Perfect portion, perfect flavor and great price. My colleagues enjoyed their meals as well. I look forward to going back next time I am in the area, which is often. Very cool decor and spacious dining areas as well. Very clean also. read more

So when I got home we had regular green beans, so we called them and the manager told my wife we have never had fried green beans, I knew that was a lie because we have had them before. Welp, the lighting was dark so I couldn't see the raw burger , thought the blood was sauce at first then realized it was blood after the first bite . Not sure who eats raw meat but not I so I called over our uncaring waitress who immediately apologized and went back to get me another burger ,while the manager ignored the fact I was not happy about the raw meat ,she did point out that the man behind the counter was the manager. Waited w for five minutes she came back with a new burger however it was not good it was on the same bun and the bun of course was bloody and the fries that was originally on the plate were still on the plat I know that because they were bloody so I sent it back again asking for all new plat of food not the same fries or bun all the while the manager countinued to stand around and ignore the problem. So then the plat comes out this time it over done and the fries were over done and they charged me full price for garbage food the photos speak for themselves. They have bod food an uncaring staff that seems they are sorry they have to work there.Never will I step foot in there or recommend it to any one oh the quesadilla was just okay TocoBell has better and that is a stretch! Neat atmosphere in a historic downtown building. Tractors has great salads, burgers, and wings. The rest of the menu isn't as thrilling. The fish tacos are usually bland and undercooked and the étouffée tastes as if it was microwaved straight from the freezer. read more

Food was really good but the wait on a Saturday afternoon for it was the longest I've ever waited for food. A completely empty restaurant almost, 5 waitresses on staff but you basically had to hunt down one of them to get a refill on water. The wait for food could have been made up with actually decent wait staff. She forgot drinks, she rang in the order wrong, our table had two complete meals missing. This is a local staple and when we come in town my family ALWAYS wants to eat here. If you don't care about comfortable seating, quality items on the menu, variety, or good service....I would absolutely recommend Tractors. I gave them two stars because they aren't really bad....they just aren't really good either. If our waitress even tried to pre-bus the table or act anything but frazzled by our requests for waters I would give her a decent tip. Very relaxed atmosphere. The spinach dip is warm and bubbly. Chips are delicate and don't overwhelm your the flavor of the dip. Salads are a full meal. Don't miss the fried pickles. The only draw back at Tractors is it can be hard to hear. The acoustics make the noise just bounce off the walls if it's busy. read more

Well worth a trip off the highway if you are passing through. I'll give two stars only because our waitress was very nice. We didn't care for our food. We had a cheeseburger and fries which was just ok but the chicken sandwich was atrocious. I had ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and asked for it to be mild. I was expecting a mild form of buffalo sauce. It literally tasted like it was covered in honey mustard sauce. The chicken was so large you couldn't eat is as a sandwich. I didn't actually eat it at all. My son had chicken strips and broccoli. He only ate the broccoli. The chicken strips tasted "off". I can't think of another word to describe it. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. I did verbalize my issue with our food but wasn't offered any other options and that's ok. There was also an extremely large party that arrived and we could barely get out of our booth because they had sat the tables so close to us. Another waitress was seemed overall just irritated that she even had to be at work. Just not a good experience. read more
