Service was great. Potato soup is a definite DON'T, cornstarch gravy with no resemblance to soup or potato. The BLT was bacon dust, they must a reheated in a microwave for a very long time. I ate at Colton's on October 24th, 2025 for dinner, ordered the Mesquite Chicken with a salad and just 3 hours later was up all night with stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting due to FOOD POISONING. I was nauseas and dizzy for the next 5 days. Will never eat there again. read more

Well tonight's experience started promising but nosedived harder than Maverick in Top Gun! I explained to our server it was my daughter's 22nd birthday and she'd had an extremely crappy day. He said he was the best server and would pick up her mood and they'd sing to her later and make our dinner the best. That was empty words. Our appetizer came out cold, as did my soup and meal. By the way things were served I'm sure my salad was probably warm. We took over half our dinner home because it just wasn't right. After all that he brought the check and no happy birthday. The food that I ordered tonight was cold, very disappointing and my chicken strips weren't even fully cooked, the fries were cold and I saw another gentleman send his steak back because it wasn't what he liked. I was there on Sunday the 12 March 2023, for my daughters birthday, we sat at the bar. I must say they were very busy and we still had excellent service from are barmaid Leah. I ask her for a recommendation for a thick cut of steak, she informed me they had a special Tomahawk Ribeye steak that was thick. Thank you again Leah for the great service and the steak recommendation. Yes it was, it was thick and juicy 40+ oz, one of the best steaks if not the best that I have ever eaten in my 68 years. My daughter had the Ribeye, I had to try a bite, it looked so good and it too was as tender and succulent as my 40 oz steak, cooked to perfection, my cowboy hat off to the cook, (I`m sorry, that I did not get the cooks name). Service good. The yeast rolls were hot and yummy. I had a sirloin, smashed potatoes with gravy and fried okra. Okra arrived after I was done eating but it was hot and delicious. They comped me $3 since it was late and I didn't even ask. My son didn't like the Mac n cheese. His grilled corn was soggy and gross. Our steaks had a lot of garlic. The restaurant, at first glance, appears to be a great steakhouse. Decorated nicely, peanuts you can shell and throw on the floor, lots of taxidermy, & good country music. Service: poor. Waitress took other tables before ours, despite our timely seating. Did not bring appropriate silverware (spoon) for the soup - had to wait and remind her. She was in the back for a while. Did not check back w us to see how we were doing. A manager (?) did however. Food: smoked salmon dip w pita chips was very good. Soup was cold. Fried catfish was watery and mealy(?), very soft like it was old. Sweet potato fries were cold. Rolls and butter were tasty! They advertise BBQ, but there is precious little on the menu. Overall pretty happy with my experience. The first thing I noticed upon arrival is the amount of staff working, which can be a good sign that you won't be left waiting for service. I opted to sit at the bar since I was traveling alone. The bar top has plenty of TVs in site, but with no sound in any one. The gal tending bar was less experienced in that role but clearly is a longtime server, so what she didn't know about bartending she made up for in customer engagement. Was happy to see Sam Adam's on tap so I immediately ordered that. The tall size was perfect and affordable. Knowing I wanted a big dinner, I opted to skip the appetizers. But if I were to order, I probably would've gone for fried pickles. Those are hard to pass up. I chose to order a combo of ribs and fried catfish for $20, which came with hush puppies and cole slaw...plus 2 sides of my choice. I chose fried okra and baked sweet potato (come with brown sugar and butter) for my sides. I made it through about 1/2 my beer by time the food came. Can't recall if that's an indication that I was drinking fast or if the food took long, either way I don't recall being bothered by the wait. As for my meal, the portion was good. This area means a lot to me as I'm a big eater, so there was plenty of ribs and catfish (the main dish is what really matters, sides are just distractions). The catfish was made just right, good corn meal batter and not much grease (if any) in sight. The accompanying tarter sauce was low quality, seemingly pre-stored somewhere in the back a little too long. But that didn't bother me since the fish stood in its own. Then came the ribs. At first glance, I was unimpressed since they were not smoked (to me, that's the only way to do it) and almost gray in appearance. But the taste is what really counts here and I was surprised by how good they were. Moist, fall off the bone, and good flavor. Probably could have used a bit more rub, but I resolved that with the variety of 4 different sauces. Like I said, overall the food was good. Nothing particularly bad to speak of, I suppose I'm just not rating them much higher because I've been to a lot of top smoked BBQ joints, so my scale is high for ribs. If I were to pick 1 negative, it would be overall restaurant cleanliness. But that doesn't bother me much and didn't impact my rating any. We sat in the dining room. The Mesquite Salmon & Caesar Salad good, well seasoned, but pleasant. Bourbon Bacon Salmon not so great, too much sauce hid the Salmon taste. No real butter available, so we passed on the baked sweet potatoes. Then had an after dinner Coffee with Kalua. The waitress was pleasant, but not overly checking, gave us some privacy. The second trip in; we sat in the bar at a booth; unfortunately a group of fourteen came in before our entree. They were talking as if they were deaf. So loud it hurt your ears. Will pass on the bar next time. We could not have a conversation. We got the Mesquite Salmon again, which turned out to be a bit fishy tasting and not as well seasoned. The Blackened Salmon was better and Caesar Salads were pleasant. Again no real better, so no sweet potatoes. The waitress tried to pass an oil & margarine mix to us, then confessed. She was pleasant, but was bartending part time. They do give a Veterans discount, but you have to tell them and have identification to prove it. This is our third trip here. Waitress competent, not overly attentive, but could take the plates away a bit more quickly. She does not let you finish giving her information and then has to do twice the work. For instance; we are both veterans; she gives the one discount and once we had finished that conversation, she had to go back and finish the ticket. During the meal; I was startled to see a large, very mature cockroach walking towards my plate, within 12-14 inches, I managed to squash it with my napkin. Made me think again about whether I really want to eat here again. Had to request a new napkin; they are cloth ya know; and tell her what and why I needed a new one. Shock & apologies came, she finally brought a new napkin and silverware. The napkin was all I needed. The manage came about ten minutes later, to let us know the exterminator/"routine maintenance" had been done today and the items were showing up, here and there. And she apologized. I did comment that at least I wasn't someone, who would have screamed at the sight. Of course, she immediately was grateful. And end of story. Steak were great, still miss having real butter. I need to start by saying that if you like a Texas Roadhouse type steak house- you will like this. it pretty much is the same. All the way down to the peanuts on the table and floor. So no real surprises for us. This was our first time here and thought I would add some more pictures. I also need to comment on how surprised when they asked us if we wanted Smoking or nonsmoking. Yes there are still places in the world that have that. And rural Poplar Bluff is one of them. We had a salad that came with the meal. Lots of salad and dressing in a nice warm bowl. I did wish it was a cold bowl and not warm, because even the lettuce was warm. Still tasted good though. However we did not get but a few bites in us before the steaks arrived. ow I wished they would have slowed that service a little. but definitely a good salad. We both ordered the Ribeye and sautéed mushrooms. A 10 Oz. is actually pretty big as it is a very thin steak but very tasty. definitely worth the money for the steak. Now the mushrooms. Sautéed or at least they were supposed to be. I wanted you to see them because they were really almost boiled and them soaked into an oily liquid that was very spicy. If you are spoiled with garlic and butter sautéed mushrooms - do not get these. But I must admit they have a lot of other side dishes that looked awesome. We are in town for a couple days and I hope we go back. e cause there is a lot of good stuff to try. Again if you like a Texas Roadhouse style place, you will love this place! I have given them many chances and everytime I am a very dissatisfied customer. Once a dring got spilled at the table next to is and they left it in the floor. I have medical bandages that cause me to not be able to wear a shoe (my foot is fully covered by many layers of bandages) so my bandges got wet and sticky. We were apprehensive about this place since a hotel clerk recommended a "chic" place instead. The "chic" place had a small menu for lots of bucks, so we went here instead. We were quite happy. Our server, Lindsay, was really on top of things, filling our water glasses many times. She was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the large onion rings and they were plentiful. The second best onion rings I've ever had. Wife ordered fried shrimp and they were huge and tasty. Fiday April 22, 2022. My girlfriend and I went to dinner here. I've never been. We were sitted right away. The staff was enthusiastic and pleasantly polite. Which in this day is rare. We ordered drinks and our drinks were keep full throughout our dinning experience. We both order steak and shrimp.. our steaks were cooked prefectly. The breading to my shrimp fell off. However it was a delicious meal. The onion appetizers was amazing. I hate that i can't remember my waitress name. However she was the best. She always check on us. A solid lunch spot in Poplar Bluff. Not sure if it was a chain, but felt like a Lone Star or Texas Roadhouse as far as offerings and quality of meat. I had the sirloin tips with fried okra. The tips were good, a couple of too-chewy-to-eat pieces but that wasn't bad considering the quantity. I definitely got my fill of the meat. Served with grilled peppers and onions - I picked out the onions but the peppers were good. The okra was yummy - I'm pretty picky about my fried okra but this was done just like my great grandma would make with a light coat of cornmeal breading. I ate every piece and that rarely happens. A couple of low points I wanted to mention; mostly because our server was a young girl and I think probably could use a little more training. She managed to interrupt our business conversation a few times but at the same time our drinks ran dry. She didn't offer us dessert, and ran to grab the bill as soon as she saw that we had signed it and then we were dead to her (this is a pet peeve of mine). Probably the worst offense though was spilling Russian dressing on the shirt and pants of one of my dining partners with only a cursory apology. A visit by the manager with an offer of cleaning would have been appropriate at that point, in my opinion. Waited in the lobby for a couple minutes and when she showed up all she said was "have you been helped", and "smoking or non". Four minutes to be greeted at table despite dining room being half empty. Sixteen minutes to get the salad. Dinner four minutes later, salad not even half eaten. Beware! In the age of covid, and with no knowledge of when it will be under control or who is a symptomatic, this establishment has taken the very dangerous approach to not have any staff wear masks and to not require customers to wear them upon entering or leaving. There is no social distancing at all as people are sat very close together. We stopped in to dine after we were told it was not busy, and we thought that we could at least take out if it was too uncomfortably busy for us. When I entered on a Friday night at 8:30, it was packed with people and no one was wearing a mask. I asked the hostess if no one was required to wear one and she cavalierly said, "oh no we don't have to wear them!" I replied, we then we won't eat here and got the heck out of there. Shame on you for risking other people's health and welfare for the mighty dollar. I go to Colton's once a year, which honestly isn't enough. But, I live in another state, so once a year is as much as I can do. EVERYTHING on the menu rocks! I prefer the Del Rio ribeye. And if you get mashed potatoes, I recommend getting them loaded! The rolls are so good, I tend to fill up on them before the food gets to the table.
