I came here for CPR and first aid training and I am glad I did. It was easy to register on their website and they offer both in person and hybrid classes right now. The parking at this location is super easy, it was easy to spot from the street, and they are kind of close to the 5 freeway. The building looked very clean and organized. The instructor, Scott, was great at making the information clear, keeping us engaged, questioning us, monitoring our progress and assessing our skills. When we made mistakes he made sure to give us a positive too to keep us motivated. I can actually remember what the acronym SAMPLE stands for now, thanks to him. I also think it is pretty neat that I can still access the training videos on the Red Cross website even though my class is over! The videos are like games and there is a little bar that moves either into the red or green as you progress through them. It's kind of fun playing them and a good learning experience. I would definitely recommend getting CPR training from these people. They have everything so organized and are very thorough. read more

The American Red Cross has seen its share of controversy over the years. Some people loathe it for wasting money (my ex-boyfriend was one of those), others for alleged discrimination, and others for making money from blood donations. Nevertheless, there are few organizations that are so universally recognized for helping others. When you see the famous Red Cross logo, you know help is on its way. It's difficult to think of another organization that can so quickly and efficiently organize a blood drive or set up a shelter after a disaster. I have donated blood at the Glendale location several times. Some experiences have been better than others but overall the staff have been professional. It's always nice to get the perks (tickets to comedy shows, coupons for ice cream, T-shirts during the annual KLOS blood drive, not to mention concert tix). But when all is said and done, the ultimate gift is the gift of life. Make sure you schedule an appointment to donate ahead of time; they are not always fully staffed to accept blood donations. My father required several blood transfusions in the last year of his life. While ultimately nothing could be done to save him, at least he got a little more time on this earth to spend with his loved ones. When you take have the 3 weeks in the nursing home you lose so many key things that you learned in the lab. As an ARC volunteer, one of thousands who make up 95% of the Red Cross effective workforce, I've spent time at a lot of different blood donation centers and blood mobiles. Torrance ARC BDC stands out as particularly well organized and thought-out as to how to keep a relatively surge and wane schedule of donors moving through at a transparently efficient pace. There will always be those days they have insufficient medical staff on board to handle every available station (which means you wait if you didn't book an appointment online or via the App.) But this location really shines in having figured out how each half of the BDC works (platelet and plasma donors are almost always long term hundred unit donors and know the routine blind-folded; whole blood is a 50/50 of first timers and seasoned gallon-plus donors.) Once you check in at sign-in, as soon as the staff can start processing your intake interview, you'll be on your way to saving another life through your donation. Torrance gets extra points for having a generous canteen reception and a seasoned staff that all know their parts really well. It's low-stress and almost casual like most ARC's are known for, but in particular Torrance ARC has a gentle vibe that ensures you'll have a positive experience and want to return. That's quite a cool thing given they have no actual budget to go the extra steps - so it's the kind and caring nature of this location's staff and volunteers that make the difference. read more

I am a frequent blood donor I have always had great experiences when donating blood at different locations. I decided to book an appointment for this location and right off the bat the nurse who took my blood out (Paula) was rude, was complaining to her other coworkers about wanting to go home, and then she decided to walk away to talk to a coworker outside the room and left me alone unattended with my bag almost full. Lucky there was another nurse near me and I let her know that my blood bag was full she was helpful. Even when I was done Paula kept gossiping with the rest of the employees leaving only one nurse to do blood donations. Very unprofessional of PAULA. . read more

These guys have been "top drawer" since the very first time I had ever given blood at their Brand location 15 years ago. Since then, I have done 3 CPR certifications, 2 CPR/AED certifications, and given tons of blood (ok, maybe about 10 pints over the years). After my hellish experience with "Your Way CPR", I decided to go back to the perfectly wonderful old standy by, ARC. (I only tried using "Your Way" because a company I guest-teach at has an account with them or something). Back to the good stuff.. I sent an email to The American Red Cross in Glendale, at 8pm (way after hours) last night inquiring: "Hello, I am interested in a class that combines all 3 courses (CPR/AED/First Aid) in one day. Got my First Aid/CPR/AED here and the instructor was amazing. I feel confident that I can help someone with CPR and using an AED, and also perform First Aid as needed. I am happy that I got certified through American Red Cross. The class is a little pricey, but what certifications aren't these days? I am a medical professional, and I attended a CPR course in which the instructor was of very poor quality. He was more concerned with impressing the students and talking about his grandchildren. The course went way over the time frame that I signed up for. He also made derogatory comments about nurses, saying you all know "how nurses are, they are all "type A personalities". I will definitely stick with American Heart Association for CPR training as their trainings have better content and are professional in their delivery of the subject matter. Zero stars but u have to rate and will never attempt to donate at this facility again Always getting called to donate because I have always been horrible at donating regularly. Anyway decided to stop in and give a pint this morning since I was in the area and I had the time. Doors were locked on donation side so I went to the other set of doors. Lady at the door who spoke very broken English wanted to know what I needed. I tried to explain I wanted to donate some blood. Lady told me in an extremely rude manner that they don't do donations there and closed the doors in my face. This was my experience at this site and will be my only one read more

So I gave platelets for the first time and froze my hair off. The building was 68 degrees which means the machine and saline were the same temp. I gave them 98 degree blood and that's not what I got back. Four blankets later and I think I lost 5 pounds from shivering. There is no reason for this cold. Blood warmers are made for this reason. The RC wants more platelets but won't step up to the plate to make donors more comfortable. read more

The only place worse than here is the Pasadena site. It was 80 degrees indoors which made it hard for donors wearing masks. They were running about an hour behind (even though they take appointments only). Worse than that my pheblomimist seemed to be on day one. I'm already bruising around the site. read more

Where to begin. I went to this Red Cross for my CNA state board testing. Before we start, know that I passed. But even with me passing, I felt the need to write a review because my experience was so negative. There were 4 ladies who proctored the exam. Only ONE of them was nice. I wish I knew her name, but it was an older lady with shoulder length white hair and bangs. She was the first lady to come in and begin registration. The lady proctoring the written exam was so rude. There were asian women who needed translators to take the test, and she took away one of their translators because it had a dictionary. Fine. But she was soo incredibly rude to these poor women, all who maintained smiles at her in the midst of being treated so poorly. Everyone in the class felt bed, it was so clear. I ended up asking the lady if the girl could borrow one of the other girl's translators when they were done and she snapped at me. I felt like someone had to stick up for them. Then, after it was time to test for skills. Elcey was my evaluator for positioning. Another extremely rude lady. You have 10 minutes to perform your skill and when I was done I asked if I had time left and she said your time is up WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT A CLOCK. When you ask her questions she belittles you making you feel like an idiot. I understand they have to maintain professionalism, but you don't have to be such a b. When my partner was performing her skill on me and I was the resident, Elcey was eating peanuts and did not even look at my partner ONE time!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! You need to check your attitude at the door Elcey, and learn to do your job. Then, I had vital signs with Patricia Copeland. Another rude lady, SHOCKING. I had personal care with the lady who started registration, my ONE star is for her!!!! She was nice and professional. I wish I knew her name! Also, Red Cross is adamant about you getting to the facility on time and if you don't you cannot take the test. 3 of the 4 evaluators were late. Really professional people (insert sarcastic face here). Ladies, I hope you read this. You clearly are unhappy in your lives and are transferring that to your work lives. You don't have to treat people poorly. You are NURSES. Lighten up, a smile will NOT kill you. Red Cross Glendale, I hope you read this as well. Me and the other examinees spoke to each other and are all telling the programs we went to not to send their students your way anymore due to your evaluators. Do NOT come here for you're CNA test I took my written and skill test here and out of like 16 people taking the skill test only three must have passed. The main instructor is Rude and not nice at all. And another Arminian lady that gives the skill test was also VERY RUDE. Everyone couldn't believe how they failed more then half of the class some people drove from far to come take this test to get there CNA and went back with seven hours of there times wasted and Had paid $110. To only have to pay another $110. To retake the test. I advise EVERYONE don't come here to this Red Cross they are very unprofessional and failed practically more then half the class. Worst experience EVER coming here and I work at a hospital very near here I will be letting all my co workers know as well and family members to NOT come here. The only nice one lady was a white lady with white hair and bangs I didn't get her name but she was the only nice welcoming one there with a really nice attitude.but the instructor and the Arminian lady where so bitter and rude. read more

No organization or structure. No vending machines, no hot water, and no microwave... the reason i say this is because, they did not allow us to leave the building nor did they notify us the time frame, I waited 2 hours (Could have drove to the nearest food location). 13 out of 15 people FAILED the skills portion.. The enviroment did not faciliate success. The Rn's doing skills did not communicate with the women proctoring the written exam, people who finished the written portion early were not called in to take the skills first. BAD COMMUNICATION. it's all about making $$ 55.00 to retake skills portion. 55x13 people = alot of $. Take it from me.. use another place to take your CNA test. read more

This location is completely horrible, unprofessional, and unorganized. I paid $1,500.00 to take their NAT course. That doesn't include the additional costs of getting the required vaccinations and physical, purchasing a uniform, white shoes, and a wristwatch with a second hand that we barely even use. The NAT instructor, Emil Zervo, is very rude to his students. He belittles someone if they don't know how to do a certain skill, or if they have a few errors on their exam. Instead of providing constructive criticism, he worries that our mistakes will make him look bad in the eyes of his superiors. He goes on rants about how it's not his fault if we fail, how we should know better, how it's all common sense and we need to use our brains, etc. He basically makes you feel small and stupid, and he will call you out in front of the class if you failed an exam. He teaches us to show dignity and respect for the residents we will be caring for, yet he doesn't even have the decency to be kind and respectful to those who paid a significant amount of money to be trained. God forbid if you ask him a question! He'll blankly stare at you, answer it with sass, and then laugh and shake his head. He begins the clinicals at 8 am instead of 7:30 am, and lets us go at 2:00 pm instead of 2:30 pm. I paid for a specific amount of hours per day. I am not getting what I paid for. Now, for the NAT program. First of all, we signed a contract stating that we would be done by September 22nd, that we would have a job fair, and a proper graduation with official American Red Cross CNA pins and awards. Although we're in Glendale, they tried deceiving us by avoiding our questions regarding clinical sites. We were originally going to go to a facility in Culver City (17 mi away from this location) every day. The fact that they took our money and didn't want us to back out due to the ridiculously far clinical site is disgusting. What's the point of signing up for NAT in Glendale? Thankfully they found a facility in a ghetto area of Los Angeles that is only 6 miles away. Anyway, we signed up to be at a clinical site for 3 weeks in order to fulfill the required hours under the state of California. Instead, we went to clinicals for 2 weeks, stopped going due to an issue that the facility KNEW would come up and had informed American Red Cross about ahead of time, and spent two days in class just fooling around. Although this wasn't OUR fault, we were being told that we must make up the missed clinical days on the days we don't have class. Wtf? How was it our fault if you morons couldn't take proper action and have a backup clinical site should such an issue come up? Why do we have to make up for something that you guys knew would happen? We didn't have to do that, though, because they chose to delay our graduation instead. As a result of our clinicals being temporarily canceled, we are now having a shitty delayed graduation without a ceremony and job fair that I signed and paid $1,500.00 for. But that's not a problem, we were offered to attend the next class's job fair on November 2nd! Wow, what a great accommodation! Thank you so much, Alice. That really makes me feel so much better about the money I wasted on this bullshit course. Don't let the title of the American Red Cross lead you to believe that you will receive professional training. You will be misinformed, deceived, and robbed of your time and money. You will be indirectly told that you are stupid. Save your money and find a hospital that will give you better training at a fraction of the cost. What a joke. read more

I went in on Saturday, February 07, 2015. For the written and skill exam. I was told by previous folks how the RN treated them, and how rude, and how they didn't communicate to the students, also how they never gave them a chance to eat. I didn't believe until i was in there shoes. We were never greeted by the nurses that morning, we never got a formal introduction. The nurses never spoke to us and look at us. The Proctor for the written exam was genuine, he spoke, introduced himself to us. Smiled, made us all feel comfortable, and was still yet professional. When it cam time to the skill exam section, everyone failed, we didn't have a chance to eat or snack or anything of course we couldn't leave the premises to eat. But others left early and we there for a long time on an empty stomach trying to get through with the skill portion. I have all 3 of the nurses names, so i won't put them on here, but i will say the only time one was nice was when they gave me the results, and i couldn't understand her clearly because of her strong dialect in her language. It was not a good day at all. And i see that it is all about the money with them. They really not trying to help you pass your exam but fail you and get the money for the re-test fee. Something should be done about this. Its not fair at all. Be very aware of testing at this location and others due to have these nurses again at another Red Cross. I believe something should be done about this and how they really evaluate students. Some RN have never been CNA, and/or have problems so they take it out on us.
