We have a few cats and a few feral ones that we take care of. We took our feral cat in to be spade recently. The staff made us feel welcome and told us about the procedure and when we could pick her up. When picking her up the vet came out and talked to us and she has healed perfectly and ready for her friends. We certainly will go back when we have needs for our kitties! read more

If I could I would rate them a zero.This place does not care about your pets. All they care is the money. I took my dog Luna because she was having trouble to urinate. All they did was blood work.They didn't even do X-rays or an ultrasound. Instead they kept her a whole day to give her fluids to keep her hydrated. The doctor said that she had crystals in her bladder. The doctor gave us medication for UTI for seven days and that we could take her home. So she finished her medication and was still having trouble. We called the vet to ask questions and was told that the doctor would call us back. Doctor never called is back and we paid $730. So we took our pet to a different vet. The new vet did xray and blood work. He said that they should have done xray, ultrasound. Also an emergency surgery. The new vet told us that it was too late to do anything. We are heart broken Our beloved dog passed away . So PLEASE don't go to American pet clinic. Doctor doesn't know what he's doing. They are trash all they care is money and not the pets. They don't return calls and have attitude. They make your pets nails bleed when they cut nails. Never going back read more

Years ago I had recommended this clinic but throughout the years it was hard to have my pets seen, so I had to look elsewhere. One of my frenchies was diagnosed with food allergies and was put on a prescribed Hydrolyzed food diet. Over 5 years not once did this clinic ask for me to bring him in for an anual visit. My food has been on autoship for years now and waiting for my delivery today i received a denial from chewy.com that the veterinarian didn't approve it. When I called about it they told me I had to bring my dog in for an anual visit because it had been 4 years. They wouldn't see him today (Monday) as I was in need of food, they told me they could see him on Wednesday. The gal on the phone and manager did not seem to care that my dog was is need of food. All they seemed to care about was their new policy and getting their moneys worth. To the staff if that's your new policy then you should do better of informing your patients. I'm updating this review because I realized they are charging $180 for a blood test, the insurance that I pay $55/month for is only paying $75 max for that blood test, which leaves me still paying a lot out of my pocket considering I have the lowest copay at 10%. And Lemonade has been thre cheapest and best pet insurance I've found so far. I'm frustrated. This ended up being a lot of money for me. read more

You gave him his flea medication and kept a watchful eye over him to make sure he did not have any allergic reactions, also gave him a warm bath to soothe him of any skin irritations he may have from the shampoo I used or from the flea meds. On Sunday, September 30, 2018 our French Bulldog, Bailey arrived at American Pet Clinic to undergo a progesterone test. The results came back favorable, Bailey was scheduled for artificial insemination (AI) on Monday, October 1. The result of the AI has been nothing short of horrific, as Bailey failed to recover and suffered from an invasive surgical procedure (See Attachment #1). It wasn't until Sunday, October 7 that she was receiving much needed treatment for swelling and infection, that had gone unchecked, backed by reassurances from Dr. Amanpreet Basra, that Bailey was doing okay. If there were further concerns, we were to contact the American Pet Clinic. On top of the $110.00 spent for an in-house progesterone test and $275.00 for the surgical insemination, I have spent an additional $261.00 and $175.00 for follow up services at American Pet Clinic. An additional $91.00 was spent at East Bay Veterinary Emergency, when the dog woke up in a pool of blood, liquid and pus on Sunday, October 7 (See Attachment #2). I called the American Pet Clinic and was told Dr. Basra wasn't available at the clinic on Sundays, the decision was made to receive treatment at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teach Hospital (VMTH) (See Attachment #3 & #4). The result, eight days, numerous procedures and seven nights hospitalized at VMTH, Bailey came home. That $275 AI cost us $4288.75, this after numerous reassurances from Dr. Basra that Bailey was going to fully recover, based on blood work, subcutaneous fluids and medication. As owners, we are very upset and disappointed with American Pet Clinic and horrified at what our French Bulldog endured. We did everything asked of us, but feel it was Dr. Basra's failure during the procedure and follow up care that turned this situation, life threatening. Bailey developed a staph infection on the skin and subcutaneous tissues, the most dramatic and the ends of the incision. Left untreated, her wounds could have resulted in death. Bailey spent 8 days at VMTH under the care of Dr. Casey Kohen and Dr. Jeremy Fleming, providing us with daily updates, regarding how Bailey was doing and what procedures were going to take place, based on her progress. Their assessment of Bailey, "...developed a post-operative surgical site infection of the superficial tissues that has cause dehiscence of the incision. We recommended initial wound management to help clear the infection and then close thereafter to allow expedited healing." It's unfortunate, our French Bulldog and family have suffered because of the procedure at the American Pet Clinic. Rest assured, we will not return for your services. We will be considering legal action, contacting the California Veterinary Medical Board and promote a social media campaign to let other individuals know not to take their animals to your clinic. read more

This veterinarian gives you instructions for your newborn puppies in the instructions they tell you to tube feed the puppies while you wait for the mothers milk to come in. this is absolutely false do not do that. let the puppy nurse and make crying sounds to get mom's milk to come in. next do not allow this veterinarian to put your newborns in their incubators they are not using them properly they are too hot the puppies are warmed up too quickly. The newborn puppies need to warm up slowly over time the appropriate heat would be the heat that they get from their mother or you can carry them inside your shirt right after they're born do not leave. wait for the puppies and take them immediately away from this Vetinarian I suggest you just don't get a C-section here. read more

Since I have moved, this is the last review I'm going to write about this clinic, as I will never be in the area again. I have upped the stars one because in November 2019, I brought my dog to this business. I'm not going to go through the reasons why I called around to so many vets, because it's a very long story starting back when he was only about a year old. In November 2019, he was 9 years old. So, extremely long story short, when I did share the story and the reason for seeking a vet, to the many vet offices I called in and around the Modesto and Ceres area, not a one of them cared to listen to me, understand the situation, and brushed me off as if I had not done everything possible to rectify the situation. Not. One. Except this clinic. This one did listen. They understood. They were the only vet willing to have my dog come in. I made an appointment, however, between that time and the date of the appointment, I was able to find a temporary solution, and contacted the vet to state the nature of my visit would be a little different. They were very accommodating. I also advised them that my dog had major fear aggression around other dogs, and asked if we could come in the back way, or some way to prevent there being any craziness. Yet again, they were very accommodating. I left my dog in the car when I arrived, signed in, waited, and then when it was time for my dog to come in, the clinic made a very clear way for my dog to come in without being faced with other dogs he was extremely afraid of. It made for a very peaceful entrance, peaceful visit, and peaceful exit. The level of fear my dog has had towards other dogs is worse than you can imagine. He has been attacked, repeatedly, because so many just let their dogs roam around, freely, no leash, no fence, often times, no person around at all. So my dog has a major issue, and when he sees another dog, it's fight or flight. Other dogs pick up on that fear, and then we have a problem. It was very important that the clinic listen to me when I told them about my dog's fear, and what could happen, and they listened. They accommodated - I'm talking about the front desk people that I've not been all that fond of in the past - they listened, they accommodated. And I'm very appreciative that they did so. It truly was a very serious, big deal. I also met a new vet that night, and she was wonderful. The visit was quick, and the staff, this time, all of them, were great. read more

This place almost killed my pet. I took my extremely healthy 7 month old cat to get spayed. She was given no antibiotics afterwards and developed an infection under her skin. After a trip to the ER and emergency surgery she had to get to drains put in and restitched. Before taking her to ER I tried calling the clinic an hour and a half before they closed. I was told if I sent pictures over email they would should the dr and get back to me. After 30 mins I called again for an update and they told me the dr went home and they said they never got the picture. When I questioned them having just stated 30 mins prior the dr was there the response was "well we just got your picture we open again Tuesday " the ER said the infection was most likely due to an unsterile surgery since it was under the skin. read more

I have been here a few times. The first visit was great not that many people, it was about an hour (with appointment) before the Dr (vet) came in. He was very nice and seemed to listen to my concerns with my dog. After my visit I decided to get my kitten fixed. About 3 days after having her back home she had flea eggs all over her, now my cat and my dog are infested and I've spend over $200 trying to get rid of them. My cat was an inside only cat and my 5yr old dog has never had fleas in the 4 years I've had her. This concerns me that my inside cat went to get fixed and came back with fleas, to me this means the cages aren't being cleaned-are their surgical instruments being properly sanitized from animal to animal? Who knows. My 3rd and final visit I was there 2 hours with a packed full waiting room (with an appointment of course) they turned away a dying puppy and there was a huge puddle of pee on the floor that had been there a while. When mentioned the staff "already knew" and expected me to lean over it or step it to be serviced at the counter? When leaving the room with my dog another dog lunged at her trying to bite her. Not only did the staff not seem to care they didn't say anything to the other owner (who could barely hold onto his dog). There should be better safety measures and cleaning efforts. Many RED FLAGS for this vet clinic. PLEASE!!! Do not bring your pets to this place. My doggies had a deep teeth cleaning yesterday. Nothing professional. They confused my pets names. When they called me and told me that one of my pets had complications during the cleaning they gave me the wrong name of my pet. When I saw my little dog it was my other doggy. That makes me doubt and be very worried that they gave the proper attention to each dog and that was the reason why he had those complications. The doctor blamed the receptionist for confusing the names. Is that serious? My husband was told that I confused my own pets. Really? We did blood tests on both of my little dogs. We had an appointment a week before this procedure. One of the assistants of Dr. Basra confirmed to us that they had received the blood studies of both. And we were in the dr office when Dr Basra himself gave the ok to continue with the procedure. We showed both pets when he mentioned the name and he checked on them. and guess what? The doctor who did the procedure said that he only had the result from one of my pets. Another lie! How is it that they did a procedure without having the blood work of one of my pets? So if that was the case. Why they didn't call me to comment on what happened? They didn't tell me that situation when bring my pets at reception. They didn't mention that they didn't have the results. I am very upset about this whole situation. Many lies! He excused telling my husband that they look identical. They look completely different. Yes they are same breed and different age. The doctor only wanted to blame the receptionist and also me for what happened. I feel so bad that this time my two little dogs were in wrong hands. My yorkies have been visiting here before it was American Pet. Much attentive until they began over scheduling. It seems to be a quantity over quality services now. Three yorkies have been patients here over 12 years, 2 were misdiagnosed and mis-medicated, both have passed. One was treated for a failing tracheal and wound up a failing heart, another never treated for a lump which was cancerous. Thousands of dollars of medications over 4 years. Not one person from this place has called to follow up on their patients in over a year. My cat needed to be groomed and I took her to a vet in Stockton and the Dr. pointed out to me, in a very rude manner, that my cats teeth were in terrible shape and needed to be extracted. I received a quote and was shocked at how much it was. My bf recommended America Pet Clinic for dental and I brought my cat in for a consultation and it was about a 3rd of the price and the Dr. was MUCH more understanding and easier to talk to. He never made me feel bad about my cats teeth or health like the other vet did. She had her procedure done on Monday and when I called to pick her up (3pm and they said anytime after 2pm), because my cat was still sedated, they wanted to keep an eye on her for a few more hours, free of charge. When I picked her up they were very thorough in explaining my cats medications and they even called a few days later to check up on my cat. I'll start off by saying American Pet Clinic is awesome! Today, my dog kilo, had an ear infection that required him to be seen. I called in around 12:30 pm and spoke to the girls up front and was told that I can come in and drop him off for an examination. Very polite and was very helpful of looking me up. I came by to the clinic around 12:55 pm and was told to drive up to the back, where they're holding their appointments, was super easy going. Dr B. came out and was informing me about what had to be done to treat his ear infection. Very reasonable pricing as to what I've always paid when I come to American Pet Clinic. If you love to sit and twiddle your thumbs in frustration...this is the place for you! I've been going to Dr. Basra for years for my cats. I think he is a wonderful vet, however, his staff at the front desk are the most incompetent, unprofessional group of young girls that I've ever run across. His practice was great until he decided to expand, now it's border line horrible. It takes over a week sometimes up to a month to get an appointment, an act of God to get any return calls and a miracle to get copies of services paid for. Somebody please tell the girls in the front that it's ok to be friendly and truthful...and to smile once in a while. The only reason I go back is because he is more affordable than other more professional veterinarian offices I've tried. Plus I really do like Dr. Basra, he's very caring and compassionate. One instance, I came in to "drop off" a cat for a surgery and it took 45 minutes just to have them acknowledge that I was there. I made a friendly suggestion that to save time, they should give customers the forms to be filled out WHILE they're waiting, rather than wait first and take more time to fill out basic information. They acted like I personally insulted them and said that they are very busy and the way they do things is the way it needs to be done. Then one of them proceeded to say that they have to enter things into the computer from the customers before me and that the phone is ringing off the hook. OMG...Keep in mind that drop off is in the morning before they're even open. There was only one other person in the lobby and they had two phone calls in the 45 min. that I was waiting. This is so unprofessional...it shouldn't take over an hour to "drop off" a pet. I hate feeling ignored. Another instance, I needed to have one of my cats looked at and rather than wait until Dr. Basra was available, I decided to try one of his new vets...WHAT A MISTAKE! I believe her name is Dr. Kohen. She didn't even check my cat's problem, she acted like she was repulsed by him and wouldn't even touch him. She actually looked at me and said "What do you want me to do about it?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was so shocked that this woman would be in a veterinary field when she clearly doesn't like animals or people. She is the nastiest person I've ever met. If they ever try to give you an appointment with her, I suggest you RUN. I then had to wait over another week to see Dr. Basra, which I should have done in the first place. I just wanted more immediate care for my pet, silly me. One of my last experiences was trying to get an answer for follow up care for my cat. I called for three days in a row and had to finally set an appointment a week out so I could talk to the doctor directly. When I arrived for my appointment, one of the girls said she just left a message for me. I had NO messages from them at all. After being there for two hours, I went to pay for the visit and medication and asked for a larger syringe to administer the meds. When I got home I noticed that they gave me a syringe with a needle for an ORAL medication...are you kidding me?!?! I have had many pets in my life and have seen many vets but have never experienced so many people in one place that continue to lie and make excuses for not being able to do their job. The customers that are in front of you should take priority over those who aren't. I'd understand if there were an emergency situation, but that's never the case. Make sure you have at least TWO HOURS for your visit EVERY TIME. You'll spend a lot of time waiting and a little bit of time for the actual appointment. Expect to hound them for months on end if you want a copy of anything. Don't count on any friendliness from the staff in the lobby either. I'm not sure if saving money is worth the frustration. If you can figure out a way to deal with the vet directly and avoid the staff, please let me know! read more

We brought our puppy daisy in for a broken leg. Upon vets recommendation the leg was splinted and for the next 2 months our daisy was to live in a cage to prevent unecasarry Movement. After these first 2 months living in the cage we were told upon evaluation there had been no improvement and that we needed to make a decision in regards to either amputation or placiing a steel pIn in bone to fix fracture. In either case it was urgent as the leg would not heal without surgery and it would not be wise to leave our daisy in a splint for any length of time. So we scheduled the surgery and paid the 1000.00, and hoped for healing for our puppy. So as we had been under the impression that this should be a speedy recovery we we anxious to get to the first follow up to see the progress- there was none. So daisy continued to live in the splint, in the cage, not just for 1 more month but through tthe next 4 months and a few more follow up appointments. At some point we were told her leg had become stagnant in recovery and we began to think we should perhaps just amputate the leg so we could get our puppy out of the splint, and out of the cage... So after approximately 6 months of this in cage living the original surgeon x rayed and found that the pin he had put in daisy's leg was not even in the right location. With growth and a hard angle the pin Had completely missed the fracture. Daisy needed anther surgery and pin put in. This was done on Jan 10, American pet clinic acknowledged this as there error and did this surgery for free and only charged us for meds and sterile equipment being used. In my opinion we believe any cost acquired from such a huge mistake should be on them but we are ok to cover whatever is fair and right? So 2 days after surgery I i received a call in regards to daisy's condition, she was doing well. I asked what next and was told to bring her in for follow up in about 2 weeks. So today my wife took daisy in for this follow up and was quoted 215 dollars for X-ray and rEsplint. I decided to call and try to explain my position on this matter. I am fruStrated and I am sure that it was apparent in my voice on the phone call but I did not raise my voice or use any type of profanity in my cOnversation. The lady was very rude and said we are not there on a scheduled follow up appointment and that's why there is a charge. Only thing is, they never made a follow up appointment, only told me to bring dog back in 2 weeks, which we did call and make an appointment? We just want our dog out of the splint, and out of that cage! She was 22 months old wheN she broke her leg. Now at 9 months old we have no idea how she will even get along when she is finalLy freed American Pet Clinic-please take care of our DAisy as we trusted you, and paid you to do from the beginning. Absolutely trash place! I took my dog in for a c section Monday 1/25 we knew she was having a total of 6 pups. We had X-ray and Ultrasound done so we knew how many puppies were expected! After we dropped her off we received the call that she was ready to be picked up and that she had only 3 pups. We have contacted the manager and she was very unprofessional. She flipped when we asked her where were our other dogs and refused to let us talk to the surgen that worked on our dog! The manager who goes by Audrey also told us doctor wasn't going to be available all week. Then has her husband call me today at around 8 pm which are not business hours on a private cell pretending to be the surgeon that operated on my dog. Don't come here. I work far away so I don't live here but my mom does and bought my cat here earlier this month and days afterwards she wasn't healing or getting any better. She laid in the corners of the house, barely move and wouldn't eat. We tried calling the vet on the third day after the surgery to see if we can bring her in for a follow up after the spay appointment. They never answered or even try to return our calls. We called the next day, same thing. And on the fifth day, she passed away in the middle of the night. My mom has to FaceTime me early morning to show me her body. We still have pictures. What kind of place is this? Are you so understaffed or so busy you can't take our calls? When we finally showed up in person to talk to them, no manager was there. The receptionists do not even know when the manager will be in. Also they wanted us to leave blaming on they can't have many people there, but it only us and 1 other person waiting. DO NOT RECOMMEND WORST CLINIC EVER. Got charged for not getting anything done on my dog . She came into get neutered . The staff tried to get a hold of me they couldn't I called 5 minutes later . Only to find out I'm being charged 200 for her only being there for an hour getting nothing done . Also my dog came back home traumatized . Do not leave your pets here .
